Diversity. Always diversity. I learn that the University of Delaware has instituted mandatory indoctrination of students to make them appreciate diversity. Delaware is going to eradicate racism, sexism, and all. It’s going to make the world safe for diversity.

I thought diversity just meant that you had to buy a new bicycle three times a year.

From the university’s training material, “A RACIST: A racist is one who is both privileged and socialized on the basis of race by a white supremacist (racist) system. ‘The term applies to all white people (i.e., people of European descent) living in the United States, regardless of class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality. By this definition, people of color cannot be racists, because as peoples within the U.S. system, they do not have the power to back up their prejudices, hostilities, or acts of discrimination….”

The program (do read the original) is pure mind-control, as much as anything Goebbels or the Soviet Union employed. In training sessions, the student must confess to bad-thought, outline his diversity-failings in detail, and abase himself before a thought-leader. Progress in good-thought will be monitored and records kept. You must learn that you are an oppressor, and you must be reformed. We will tell you what to think. It is for your own good….

The national symptoms roll on. The United States is in the middle of a portentous abandonment, rapid now, of the ideas that led to the founding of the country, and certainly of what were previously regarded as the purposes of a university. It is the strangest damned thing I have seen. Americas never lived up to its ideals—who or what does?—but it actually tried to and at least said it wanted to. Often it succeeded. Now it deliberately reverses all it stood for.

Curious. Usually it is a government that imposes control over the population. Extreme governments of the right seek absolute control over behavior, and those of the left, over thought. But it is usually the government.

In America the universities do it—help do it, I should say, since government too works against what the country was. No gauleiter or commissar from Washington tells the universities what to inculcate. There is no need. All by themselves they abandon the notion of teaching the young to think for themselves. The tone is Marxist in its contempt for students, almost hostility: They are dough to be shaped. Behind this is the devouring passive aggression of minor minds who have found themselves in power.

How must this appear to the students at Delaware? The young I suspect do not know that things were not always thus. I went to a small, very Republican, Southern college these many years ago. In those days communism was thought poorly of. Yet in my survey course on philosophy, we learned what Marx thought, not what to think about Marx. The readings represented his ideas fairly. For further knowledge, go to the library. We were expected to come to our own conclusions, and did. A different world.

I find it fascinating that it is the white professoriate that so intently imposes belief in an imaginary racism, that so fervently reviles whites. Apparently academic liberalism is an autoimmune disease. The smugness would curdle milk.

The document of the University of Delaware that sets out the program runs to ninety-nine painful pages, couched in the sorry English of the half-educated who want to sound learned. It contains transcripts of some of the one-on-one sessions of indoctrination. The example below was described as the worst interview, meaning that the student didn’t respond as desired. I have no idea who she was, but she has my whole-hearted admiration. Records the inquisitor:

“When she [the student], left I read the exercise. This is what it stated:

1) When were you first made aware of your race?
“That is irrelevant to everything. My race is human being.”

2) When did you discover your sexual identity?
“That is none of your damn business.”

3) Who taught you a lesson in regards to some form of diversity awareness? What was that lesson?
“My grandparents sometimes made racial comments. And what the hell does that have to do with anything?”

4) When was a time when you confronted someone regarding an issue of diversity? What was the confrontation about? If you haven’t, why not?
“Why would I do something like that? Diversity exists. I like it. Leave it at that.”

5) When was a time you felt oppressed? Who was oppressing you? How did you feel?
“I am oppressed everyday on the basis of my undying and devout feelings for the opera. Regularly passersby throw stones at me and jeer me with cruel names. Because of this I am exiled and often contemplate suicide. Unbearable adversity. But I will overcome, hear me, you rock-loving majority. (This is called ‘sarcasm.’)”

Etc.

If the antics of Delaware were merely the clownishness of the faculty of a second-rate diploma mill, they might be amusing. But the whole country appears to yearn for regimentation, for authority. As the Democrats attack a nonsensical fantasy of racism, so the Republicans flail at imaginary terrorists twisting in their inner fog. They eagerly revoke habeas corpus, monitor email, use NSA against the citizenry, start wars on fraudulent grounds, and openly advocate torture. (Has any other country done the latter?)

The following from a friend in DC:

“Went to the Marine marathon this morning and will go
to the finish line later today, perfect weather for
it. But so bizarre, cops everywhere, police boats in
the Potomac, helicopters buzzing around. And
something I haven’t seen before, police dogs sniffing
around and portable guard towers, like at the corners
of prison yards, set up on high places with guys in
armor and big rifles. Lots of them in the carillon.
Possibly the highest security I have ever seen.”

More police with more powers, swatted-out, more militarized. (For a foot race.) Recorded warnings in subways to watch other passengers and turn them in if they behave strangely. More cameras everywhere. Blast-proof trashcans on Metro. Surly border guards, increasingly intrusive in their questioning, keep records of the books you read. Shoe searches at airports, confiscation of toothpaste and shampoo. Warrantless tapping of telephones. Warrantless searches on the subways of New York, with no pretense of probable cause.

Why this rush toward enforced conformity and regimentation? I figure it’s something in the water. Or maybe the country is just ready for thought-policed authoritarianism. Neither Bush nor Delaware could do it if the country weren’t complicit. We’re getting there. Oh yes. What fun.

Note: I’ll be traveling through the 13th. More seditious twaddle thereafter.

Happy Birthday Marines 1775 Vs. 1898

Happy Birthday Marines and Others!!!!!

THE MARINES! SINCE 1775… OR 1798?
THE TRUE BIRTHDAY OF THE CORPS!

July 11, 1798?

November 10, 1775

From MarineLINK

“… When the peace treaty with Britain finally was signed in 1783, only the Continental frigate Alliance was still in commission. A small Marine guard commanded by Lieutenant Thomas Elwood stayed with the frigate until Congress decided to sell the vessel in September. With the sale of the Alliance, the Continental Navy and Marines went out of existence.”

From, The United States Marines A History, by BGen Ed Simmons…

“…As for the Marines, only the slenderest thread of continuity can be claimed by virtue of “marines” serving in the Revenue Cutter Service…There were to be Marine “quotas”…not “detachments” for there was no corps from which they could be detached…
…on 11 July 1798, the true birthday of the Corps,
President John Adams approved…establishing and organizing a Marine Corps.”

Customs and Traditions
Marine Corps Birthday Celebration

“The U.S. Marine Corps begins preparations for its “birthday party” every summer. Activities become more feverish as the fall hues arrive. By early November, every Marine is either rehearsing his role in the “party” or pressing, polishing, and spit-shining in order to appear at his or her best for the Birthday Ball. This has not always been the case, however. In fact, Marines have not always celebrated their founding on November the 10th.

Formal commemoration of the birthday of the Marine Corps began on 10 November 1921. That particular date was chosen because on that day the Second Continental Congress resolved in 1775 to raise two battalions of Continental Marines.

Until 1921 the birthday of the Corps had been celebrated on another date. An unidentified newspaper clipping from 1918 refers to the celebration of the 120th birthday of the Marine Corps on 11 July “as usual with no fuss.” It is doubtful that there was any real celebration at all. Further inspection of documents and publications prior to 1921 shows no evidence of ceremonies, pageants, or parties. The July date was commemorated between 1798 and 1921 as the birthday of the Corps. During the Revolution, Marines had fought on land and sea, but at the close of the Revolution the Marine Corps and the Navy were all but disbanded. On 11 July 1798, President John Adams approved a bill that recreated the Corps, thereby providing the rationale for this day being commemorated as the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.

On 21 October 1921, Major Edwin McClellan, Officer-in-Charge, Historical Section, Headquarters Marine Corps, sent a memorandum to Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune, suggesting that the original birthday on 10 November 1775 be declared a Marine Corps holiday to be celebrated throughout the Corps. McClellan further suggested that a dinner be held in Washington to commemorate the event. Guests would include prominent men from the Marine Corps, Army, and Navy, and descendants of the Revolution.

Accordingly, on 1 November 1921, General Lejeune issued Marine Corps Order No. 47, Series 1921. The order summarized the history, mission, and tradition of the Corps, and directed that it be read to every command on 10 November each subsequent year in honor of the birthday of the Marine Corps. This order has been duly carried out.

Some commands expanded the celebration during the next few years. In 1923 at Fort Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the celebration of the Marine Corps’ 148th birthday took the form of a dance in the barracks that evening. Marines at the Navy Yard, Norfolk, Virginia, staged a sham battle on the parade ground in commemoration of the birthday. The battle lasted about twenty minutes, and was witnessed by Portsmouth and Norfolk citizens. At Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the birthday was celebrated on the 12th, since a special liberty to Santiago had been arranged on the 10th. The morning activities included field and water sports, and a shooting match. In the afternoon the Marines won a baseball game, 9-8, over a Cuban team. In the evening, members of the command put on a variety show followed by four boxing bouts.

The first so-called “Birthday Ball,” such as suggested by Major McClellan, was probably held in 1925 in Philadelphia. No records have been located of one prior to 1925. Guests included the Secretaries of War and Navy, Major General Commandant Lejeune, famous statesmen, soldiers, and sailors. The principle event was the unveiling of a tablet on the site of Tun Tavern. The tablet was a gift from the Thomas Roberts Reath Post, American Legion, whose membership was composed exclusively of Marines. The celebration was held in conjunction with the annual convention of the Marine Corps League. A parade included Marines, Regular Army, and Navy detachments, National Guard, and other military organizations. The evening banquet was held at the Benjamin Franklin Hotel and a ball followed at the Bellevue-Stratford.

It is not possible to determine precisely when the first cake ceremony was held, but the first on record was held at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., in 1937. Major General Commandant Thomas Holcomb presided at an open house for Marine Corps officers. Ceremonies included the cutting of a huge cake designed after the famous Tun Tavern in Philadelphia.

From 1937, observances of the Marine Corps Birthday appeared to develop spontaneously throughout the Corps as if they had a life of their own. The celebrations were publicized through every media. Newsreels, motion pictures, and displays were prepared to summarize the history of the Corps. In 1943, standard blank Marine Corps scrap books were forwarded to all districts to be filled with 168th anniversary clippings, scripts, pictures, programs, and other memorabilia, and returned to Headquarters. Unfortunately none of these scrapbooks remain in official files.

In 1951, a formal Birthday Ball Pageant was held at Headquarters Marine Corps. Similar to the pageant today, the script described the Marines’ period uniforms and the cake ceremony. Although this is the first substantive record of a pageant, Leatherneck of 10 November 1925 pictures Marines at a pageant in Salt Lake City, Utah, which had taken place “several years ago.”

On 28 October 1952, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Lemuel C. Shepherd, Jr., directed that the celebration of the Marine Corps Birthday be formalized throughout the Corps, and provided an outline for the cake ceremony, as well as other formal observances. This outline was included in the Marine Corps Drill Manual, approved 26 January 1956.

Traditionally, the first piece of Birthday cake is presented to the oldest Marine present and the second piece to the youngest Marine present. When and where this tradition began remains unknown. Some records indicate this practice, and others vary it depending on the dignitaries present at the ball. First pieces of cake have been presented to newlyweds, the Secretary of the Navy, governors, and others, but generally speaking, the first pieces of cake go to the oldest and youngest Marines at the ball.

At present, celebrations of the Marine Corps Birthday on 10 November differ at posts and stations throughout the Corps. All commemorations include the reading of Marine Corps Order No. 47, and the Commandant’s message to those assembled. Most commands sponsor a Birthday Ball of some sort, complete with pageant and cake ceremony as prescribed in the Marine Corps Manual.

Like the Corps itself, the Birthday Ball developed from simple origins to become the polished, professional function that all Marines commemorate on 10 November around the world.

The Coast Guard and The Pacific War

by Robert M. Browning Jr.

A painting of Douglas Munro rescuing Marines at Guadalcanal.

Signalman First Class Douglas Munro provides covering fire to evacuating Marines at Guadalcanal. He was killed in action during this firefight after ensuring that all of the Marines were safe. He became the only Coast Guardsman to ever be awarded the Medal of Honor.

On September 27, 1942, a group of diminutive landing craft sped toward the beaches of Guadalcanal. Huddled on shore, and fighting for their lives, were about 500 men of COL Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller‘s 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. Earlier that day, the same group of landing craft had put the Marines on the beach; now they were returning to extract them. As the LCVPs (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel) and LCMs (Landing Craft, Mechanized) reached the shore, Coast Guard Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro steered his LCVP between the evacuating Marines and the Japanese. By interposing his craft between the men on the beach and the enemy, Munro allowed the landing craft to safely evacuate all the Marines, including the wounded.

As the last men climbed aboard, Munro steered his craft away from the beach. When almost clear, Japanese gunfire struck Munro and killed him instantly. Munro was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. It is fitting that given the Coast Guard’s lifesaving tradition and the tremendous part the Coast Guard played during World War II, the Coast Guard’s only Medal of Honor winner was not only involved with a rescue but also an amphibious operation.

The Coast Guard’s participation in amphibious activity during World War II was perhaps the most important war-related job the service performed. Incredibly, the Coast Guard fully manned more than 350 naval ships, including 77 LSTs (Landing Ship, Tank), 21 cargo and attack-cargo ships, 75 frigates, and 31 transports. In addition, the Coast Guard manned more than 800 cutters, nearly 300 ships for the Army, and thousands of amphibious-type assault craft.

Former WorldNetDaily Commentay Editor Endorses Ron Paul

By Tom Ambrose

http://www.newswithviews.com/guest_opinion/guest111.htm

Despite long ago repenting from being a Republican and from voting for Republicans, I must confess I am momentarily backsliding: I will be voting for Ron Paul. People from all parts of the political spectrum – including many people from the so-called “third parties,” like myself – will be voting for him as well. Because of this, he has a legitimate shot at winning the presidency and doing what needs to be done to fix our nation. Why?

  • Because his stands on issues are based on what the Constitution says rather than on what sounds good or on what increases his personal power and financial gain.

  • Because his views are backed up by what is widely acknowledged as one of the most consistent voting records in Congress in terms of his stands on the issues. In other words, he practices what he preaches – almost unheard of in any level of government.

  • Because he consistently supports property-owner rights and gun-owner rights. He is also an advocate for the rights of homeschooling parents and the right of unborn children to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

  • Because he has diligently worked – and will continue to work – to revamp our broken Social Insecurity system, our out-of-control government spending, our national health-care crisis, and our unjust, unconstitutional tax laws – rather than offer empty promises backed up by hot air and political posturing.

  • Because he is not a globalist. He has fought strongly to secure our borders. And he is the only presidential candidate on record as not being in bed with the United Nations, an organization riddled with Islamist and socialist sympathizers who would love nothing better than to see America’s way of life destroyed.

  • Because he is the only presidential candidate who has steadfastly opposed the war in the Middle East.

In short, Ron Paul is not a bellicose politician paying lip service to win an election. He is a patriot who actually believes in our national sovereignty and our liberty, and in faithfully adhering to the U.S. Constitution.

Unlike Ron Paul, I do think we were obliged to destroy Saddam and his miscreant children – as well as Osama (who still is not captured) – in what should have been a quick, surgical police action. Despite what the mainstream media has said, Saddam was unequivocally linked to terrorism and terrorists, not to mention the brutalization of his own people. As such, it was clearly in the interest of the United States to protect our nation from the very real threats posed by these spawn of Hell.

Nobody is perfect, even Ron Paul. But that said, Ron Paul is factually correct about the current status of our war in the Middle East.

  1. There was no constitutionally required congressional declaration of war (Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution) though Congress initially – but lukewarmly – supported Bush’s actions in the afterglow of the smoldering World Trade Center.

  2. Bush never got buy-off from the American people, never mind Congress, about what has become known as “nation building,” i.e., rebuilding a Muslim nation as a democracy – something even conservative Islamic scholars see as akin to trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Bush has no congressional authority – and more importantly, no constitutional authority – for nation building. Moreover, Bush is using this nation-building scheme to justify his ongoing, illegal war in the Middle East.

Even worse, Bush has – with the complicity of Congress – completely undermined the sovereignty of our nation by neglecting our southern border, as well as by his efforts to pass the treasonous Law Of the Sea Treaty (that is now dangerously close to becoming reality) and that would cede much of our sovereignty to the treacherous United Nations.

People in the border states have been pleading for years for help because they have been abandoned by the Bush administration – they are being raped and otherwise assaulted, their yards are being littered with trash and human excrement, their homes are being broken into, robbed and vandalized. Meanwhile Bush has continued to hamstring our Border Patrol agents – including prosecuting them for doing their jobs when Mexico has asked him to do so! – in order to facilitate his plans with Mexico to complete the malignant NAFTA superhighway and the merger of Western currencies, including the U.S. dollar, into the insidious “amero” (just as Europe combined their currencies into the “euro”).

It should be further noted that since relatively unsophisticated Mexican nationals can cross our borders by the millions, it doesn’t take any imagination to realize that highly trained terrorists can also do so. Just as a simple matter of common sense, even if one chooses to ignore the Constitution, why are we fighting terrorists in Iraq but leaving our back door wide open for them to slither in and kill us?

In short, Bush has, factually and deliberately, flouted the rule of law, and our nation is the weaker for it, even if one thinks Iraq is better off. But the president’s sworn obligation – as per his Oath of Office (Article 2, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution) – is to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution, not to play God with other nations, nor to pursue his nightmare of global government.

As a former Republican who has held elected office, I know it’s tempting to want to believe President Bush is doing the right thing – especially a Republican president if you are a Republican voter. But our U.S. Constitution says otherwise. And one’s political party affiliation ought to take a distant second place to our central, critical obligation as citizens to support and defend the U.S. Constitution – the only political barricade that stands between We The People and self-serving, unprincipled politicians.

Interestingly, I’ve communicated with several dozen veterans about the war over the past few years, and only two of them were supportive of what Bush has done. But please don’t construe my comments to mean that they or I are not 100 percent behind our people in uniform – just the opposite. Two of my family members have already honorably served in the military, and other friends, or their children, either are already serving or are planning to serve in our nation’s military services. I am deeply and sincerely proud of them all.

However, despite all the hype and presidential cheerleading, the truth is that honorable men and women are dying, and families are being destroyed, to support an unlawful war. Bush should not have put our military in this position to begin with. Unfortunately, people tend to overlook this important issue until they see their children, siblings, and spouses returning home in body bags. Ron Paul will put an end to this insanity if we have the courage to elect him. God have mercy on us if we elect one of the pretender wannabes instead.

PRESIDENT BUSH SEEKS UN JURISDICTION OVER USA

By Jim Kouri
Posted 1:00 AM Eastern
November 3, 2007
NewsWithViews.com

http://www.newswithviews.com/NWV-News/news15.htm

In several speeches he gave across the country, former US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton revealed that the President George W. Bush and his administration are buckling under pressure from this nation’s Internationalists in the current controversy over Mexico and the International Court of Justice.

The Mexican government is attempting to save an illegal alien convicted of participating in the savage rape and murder of two teenage girls from being executed in Texas for his crimes.

Death penalty opponents in both the US and Mexico are trying to place this nation under the control of a world court, according to critics of the Bush White House.

“[President George Bush's position is] a bad mistake, but one of many mistakes, I’m sad to say, the administration has made recently,” Bolton told syndicated radio talk show host Laura Ingraham.

Bolton believes that President Bush is helping Mexico and the International Court block the death sentence for a Mexican rapist-murderer. He called Bush’s actions “ridiculous.”

“Bolton is a true patriot. That’s why the liberals in the Democrat Party and the phony conservatives in the GOP were so eager to remove him from his seat at the UN. Bolton believes the UN is corrupt and he’s opposed to placing the United States under the jurisdiction of any international entity,” claims conservative political consultant Michael Baker.

“When it comes to US sovereignty, Americans would be better served listening to Ambassador Bolton rather than our ‘closet Internationalist’ President,” he added.

Baker points to phony conservatives such as Ohio’s Senator George Voinovich who shed tears during Senate confirmation hearings for Bolton to serve at the United Nations. “Voinovich feared Bolton’s anti-UN positions would hamper US involvement in the New World Order,” claims Baker.

In early October, the US Supreme Court heard arguments regarding the impending execution of Jose Medellin, who confessed to police in 1993 to raping and murdering two Houston, Texas, teenagers — Jennifer Ertman and Elizabeth Pena. The girls were sodomized and strangled with their own shoe laces, according to court records and police reports.

According to Houston Police detectives’ reports, Medellin boasted that he kept one victim’s Mickey Mouse watch as a souvenir of his heinous crime. Medellin and four other attackers were convicted of capital murder and are awaiting execution on death row.

The intervention in the case by the Bush administration comes after the International Court of Justice in the Hague found Medellin — who entered the United States illegally — was not informed of his right to contact the Mexican Consulate for legal assistance.

“Bush’s support of the World Court decision jeopardizes the cases of about 50 Mexican Nationals sitting on death row,” said former NYPD Det. Sidney Francis.

“Once again, President Bush is stabbing law enforcement officers — and the people they serve — in their backs,” said Francis.

Det. Francis points to the erosion of the enormous support of law enforcement officials and organizations enjoyed by President Bush in the 2004 election.

“President Bush was endorsed by the nation’s largest police organizations including the 350,000-member Fraternal Order of Police, the Police Benevolent Association and other law enforcement and security organizations and unions,” said Michael Baker.

“Now his popularity among cops has hit bottom because of his refusal to protect the US from illegal aliens who cross our borders at will,” he said.

Ambassador Bolton told talk host Laura Ingraham that the U.S. has no obligation to the world court in this case.

“It is ridiculous,” he said. “The Vienna Convention on consular relations does not create rights personal to the individual. It’s a state-to-state agreement.”

Lawmakers in Washington, DC, who signed the treaty, did not believe they were creating a way for criminals on death row to “get around our judicial system,” Bolton explained to Ingraham. “They haven’t had enough due process? They’ve had the full panoply of constitutional protection, and now they’re trying to create something else.”

The Bush Administration became involved in the Medellin case in 2003 when President Vicente Fox’s government sued the US over the consular issue in the UN’s world court.

The court ruled in Mexico’s favor in late 2004 and ordered the US to reconsider the Mexican inmates’ murder convictions and death sentences. In February 2005, Bush announced that while he disagreed with the decision, the US would comply. He ordered courts in Texas and elsewhere to review the cases.

The Supreme Court, which had agreed to hear Medellin’s case, dismissed it in order to allow the case to play out in Texas. Then in November 2006, the all-Republican Texas Court of Criminal Appeals balked at the president’s order, saying Bush had overstepped his authority.

The Texas court ruled that the judicial branch — not the White House — should decide how to resolve the Mexican cases. It also said Medellin wasn’t entitled to a new hearing because he failed to complain at his original trial about any violation of his consular rights and had therefore waived them.

Then Medellin’s defense attorney appealed again to the US Supreme Court, which announced last May it would hear the case. His lawyer, Donald Donovan of New York, argued that Bush was correct when he took action to comply with the world court’s decision.

Recently, for his achievements in both international arbitration and international human rights, Donovan was awarded the Premio Nacional de Jurisprudencia by the Mexican Bar Association, the first non-Mexican so honored.

What the U.S. government wants in the Medellin murder case is “bizarrely grotesque,” according to a statement by the chief counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund.

The warning from ADF Chief Counsel Benjamin Bull notes that the case, being pursued by President Bush through the Department of Justice, could result in US laws being subjugated to UN resolutions and rules to the point that local police officers will have to spend more time studying international law than catching criminals.
