Fairly Unbalanced, by Edgar J. Steele

Fairly Unbalanced

I just got off the phone with New Hampshire GOP headquarters. A NH GOP official confirmed a press release from its chairman, Fergus Cullen, which unequivocally supports the story about Ron Paul’s Nov 6 forum exclusion by Fox News. Unequivocally! They claimed always to have worked directly with Ron Paul headquarters in getting him included, however, just as they continue to do at this moment. The press release is so new that it is not yet posted upon the NH GOP web site, but Ron Paul has its full text up on his site already.

Said the GOP’s Mr. Cullen, in part: “The New Hampshire Republican Party has notified FOX News of our position, and we are in ongoing discussions with FOX News about having as many candidates as possible participate in the forum scheduled for January 6.”

Just a Weekend Affair

A huge controversy arose over the weekend as various web pundits, bloggers, blowhards and, even, the venerable WorldNetDaily.com all called Ron Paul a liar, claiming there never was such a forum and, just in case there was, that it was cancelled, anyhow, and how could an organization be so incompetent or its leadership so out of touch? Based upon these allegations, a great many Ron Paul supporters seem to have jumped ship.

Time to climb back aboard, folks. You’ve been had. Here’s how:

Yesterday, the widely-followed Alex Jones’ Prison Planet jumped in with both feet by republishing a Nolan Chart blog, Ron Paul Not Excluded from Fox Debate, by William Westmiller. To his credit, Alex Jones now has reversed himself and Mr. Westmiller has “revised” his blog entry in a none-too-clear fashion, though clearly reversing himself, nonetheless. Oddly, Mr. Westmiller counts himself as one of Dr. Paul’s supporters (with friends like this…).

Another Nolan Chart blogger, John Armstrong, increased the disinformation level with his Ron Paul’s Fox News Fiasco: The Spin Starts Here. Mr. Armstrong does not yet appear either to have corrected his misreporting or explained the basis for it.

What is it with this Nolan Chart web site, anyway?

Oh, Joe! Not You, Too. Say It Isn’t So, Joe.

Yesterday, WorldNetDaily.com also joined in, beating up Dr. Paul with Ron Paul Excluded from Debate? Not Exactly, though with no attribution. Several hours ago, I emailed Joe Farah, WND’s publisher, and asked if he intended to issue a retraction. No reply as yet and no retraction, as such, but Joe just has posted a new story: Ron Paul Not Invited to Fox News Forum, with no mention made of yesterday’s grotesquely-wrong article.

The Faux News Channel

Today’s Baltimore Sun confirmed the original story of exclusion by Fox News prior to the NH GOP’s press release: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2007/12/ron_paul_indeed_outfoxed_for_n.html

Are you mad yet? I am. But, then, I’m always mad about something, it seems.

Though inundated with copies of those false claims, I responded to all comers with, “Just wait and see.” For each and every such claim I got, however, I was gratified to be copied onto hundreds of complaints directed at Fox News.

Well, we have waited. We have seen. The only question now remaining is: Just how guilty is Fox News? Did Fox News simply exclude Dr. Paul from the Nov 6 forum (and continue to exclude him, what’s more) or are they at the base of what clearly was a false disinformation campaign over the weekend?

We don’t call it the Faux News Channel for nothing, after all.

Fairly Unbalanced

Fox News, far from being “Fair and Balanced,” actually is Fairly Unbalanced, as it turns out. We Report, You Decide? Hah! More like: We Decide, You Shut Up (guess I’ve been watching too much O’Reilly again).

It is high time for Fox News to back down and invite Dr. Paul to its little shindig. You only thought I was outraged before!

There is every indication, from the blowback and bounces, that we managed to blow the Fox News server out of the water over the weekend with our outraged emails. The NH GOP, too, acknowledged having been overwhelmed with the thousands upon thousands of phone calls and emails in support of Dr. Paul. They claim not to be guilty. Fair enough. Fox News sure as hell is guilty, though.

Let’s see what we can do now, folks. The NH GOP is on board, so let’s leave them alone. Fox News has yet to get the message, though, it seems. A few have suggested to me that you need more Fox News names, phone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses. Well, here you go:

(There is just a little redundancy in the following list, cobbled together from several sources, but Fox News never has complained about redundancy before. And, remember, they can delete emails wholesale, but somebody has to sort through all the voicemails.)

Ron Paul indeed Out-Foxed (for now)

Ron Paul indeed Out-Foxed (for now)

Jason George
Baltimore Sun

Fergus Cullen, chairman of the New Hampshire State Republican Committee, confirmed Sunday evening to the Tribune that, yes, there will be a televised Fox News presidential candidate forum on Jan. 6, and yes, Rep. Ron Paul was not invited when the other candidates were a week or so ago.

“My understanding is that five candidates to that point had been offered spots but the event is still coming together,” Cullen said.

The candidates invited to the forum/debate – whatever you want to call it – will be Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Sen. John McCain, Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. Fred Thompson.

Cullen said the event, which is set to take place two days before the New Hampshire primary, will be held in the afternoon or evening at St. Anselm College in Goffstown, N.H. When asked if Fox News, which is co-sponsoring the debate with the NH party, planned to invite Paul later, Cullen said he didn’t know.

“It’s really premature. Just the other day candidates started to accept invitations.”

On Saturday, Paul called Fox News “scared of me.” They “don’t want my message to get out, but it will,” according to The Boston Globe’s Primary Source blog.

“They are propagandists for this war and I challenge them on the notion that they are conservative.”

On Sunday night, Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said the campaign remains angry, and in the dark.

“We have not heard anything else today,” he said. “[Fox] continues to ignore our calls.”

The Essence of Liberty #212, Who ratified the Constitution: “The American people” or the sovereign states?

December 31, 2007
The Essence of Liberty: Part 212

Compiled by

Dr. Jimmy T. (Gunny) LaBaume

A Summary of Gutzman, Kevin R.C. The Politically Incorrect Guide™ to the Constitution

(The book is available from the Ludwig von Mises Institute at http://www.mises.org)

Chapter 3: Selling the Constitution

Who ratified the Constitution: “The American people” or the sovereign states?

Madison’s contributions to The Federalist are just as perplexing as Hamilton’s. For example: In No. 39 he (Madison) decides that the proposed government is to be neither national nor federal, but some sort of hybrid. However, this is impossible unless the term “sovereignty” means “authority in a given area.”

On the issue of ratification procedure, Madison says, “The constitution is to be (ratified by) the people…not as individuals composing one…nation; but as composing the distinct and independent States…It is to be…(ratified by) the several States, derived from the supreme authority …of the people…The act…will not be a national but a federal act.” He goes on to explain, “Were the people regarded…as…one nation, the will of the majority…would bind the minority…So, each state…is considered as a sovereign body independent of…others and only…bound by its own voluntary act.” This is clear enough up to this point. But…

He goes on to say that Congress is partly national and partly federal because it has one house appointed by the state and another by population. Using the same “logic,” he declares that presidential elections through the appointment of an electoral college are also partly national and partly federal. He also makes several other similarly confusing statements.

Nothing in the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation or the Constitution’s ratification process allowed the American people to form a national government. Before the states could have made themselves into a nation, they would have had to cease to exist at some point in time. They never did that.

“When did an ‘American People’ ever assent to or ratify anything?”

Now, About That Ron Paul Exclusion….???

December 31, 2007

www.ConspiracyPenPal.com   This is the only source for the absolutely free, somewhat regular and almost always peripatetic newsletter from Edgar J. Steele, occasionally referred to as “Attorney for the Damned.”

Steele always discusses politically-incorrect issues of general import and often illustrates his colorful and lively ranting with aspects of the higher-profile cases being handled by his law firm.

Frequent updates and in-depth reports on some cases, designed to provide a viewpoint rarely afforded those who aren’t actually sitting at counsel table during trial.

December 30 Update…

Yes, I have heard and read the reports that the Ron Paul Campaign HQ staff (and Ron Paul, himself) are wrong about his exclusion from a Nov 6 forum, claiming it has been cancelled.  I’ve asked and am awaiting word from Ron Paul Campaign HQ, but so far their press release stands (as of 6:30 pm ET).The good news:  Near as I can tell, we blew Fox News’ server off line last night after I sent out a list email expressing outrage over Dr. Paul’s reported exclusion from the NH forum, together with a request that people pound them and the NH GOP until they relented.

Yes, Faux News deserves everything it has been getting this weekend, but enough is enough if, in fact, they don’t deserve it this time.  Let them get a sense of the business end of unfairness for a change, I say, which is why they get no apologies from me, regardless.

Fox News and the NH GOP exclude Ron Paul from the NH forum

Here is an email I just sent out concerning the upcoming Fox News Forum that Ron Paul has been barred from joining.  If you are as outraged as am I, then I encourage you to communicate with these people, too…..

Subject: Fox News and the NH GOP exclude Ron Paul from the NH forum
So you think you have received lots of emails protesting your exclusion of Ron Paul from the televised Fox News pre-NH Presidential Primary Forum set for Jan 6 on the campus of St. Anselm College?  You haven’t even begun to see email.

Nor have you seen the power of the Internet when turned into a boycott, quite aside from the numerous issues of Federal Election law media access violations on your parts.

All Dr. Paul ever has sought is fair play - a level playing field.  Yet you insist upon rigging the game.

Ron Paul is the only Presidential candidate in the past century who has been hoisted up spontaneously by the people of America and proclaimed to be our champion, time and again, by being first in fund raising, first in straw polls, first in telephone polls, first in tv polls and first in on-line polls.

Yet, he is the very man whom you deem not important enough to include in the final pre-election New Hampshire debate!!!

Are you guys out of your minds?  You don’t really think we are going to let you get away with this, do you?

So much for “Live Free or Die.”  Turn in your license plates, you hypocrites!

Of course, by now we all just laugh out loud when we hear “Fair and balanced,” or “We report, you decide,” from the dark forces at the Faux News Channel.  In fact, it has gotten so bad that, if I am unsure how to feel about an issue, all I need do is tune in to the Faux News Channel and then adopt the opposite of whatever the evil emperor’s minions are pushing.

I’m taking the liberty of bccing this to almost 20,000 of my closest friends throughout America.  You don’t mind, do you?  I’m sure that many of them will want to share with you, too.

Edgar J. Steele
