Debunking The Health Care Bugaboo

By Mary Pitt

04/02/08 “ICH” – — Right up there with the economy as an issue for the election is the the problem of health care for Americans. We know that some forty million Americans have no health insurance and those who do are faced with ever-rising deductibles, co-payments, and premium increases. The Presidential candidates all believe they have the answers that the voters will approve but most really are aware that their proposals simply will not work. In the meantime, people are dying from neglect.

The President says that everyone has health care and ,if they need it, “All they have to do is to go to the ER!” That is true in some instances. In the smaller cities, you may be treated at the emergency room but your costs will be added to the “bottom line” of the hospital and they will raise their rates so that the bill will be paid by those who are paying their own bill or by the insurance companies for those who have insurance. In the latter case, the increase will be covered by higher premiums for the fortunate insured. On the other hand, a person appearing in a big city ER may be faced with a wait that could stretch into a whole day and then be treated by a harried and overworked young doctor who hasn’t been to bed for a couple of days.

The Madness of John McCain

A militarist suffering from acute narcissism and armed with the Bush Doctrine is not fit to be commander in chief.

By Justin Raimondo

03/02/08 “American Conservative” — – John McCain’s reputation as a maverick is no recent contrivance. The senator first captured the media spotlight in September 1983, not long after he’d been elected to his first term in the House, when he voted against President Reagan’s decision to put American troops in Lebanon as part of a multinational “peacekeeping” force. One of 27 Republicans to break with the White House, the freshman McCain made a floor speech that reads as if it might have been written yesterday—by Ron Paul:

Tapped Out Nation

By Patrick J. Buchanan

04/02/08 “Human Events” — – It was to be the year of change, of new ideas, a new politics.

Yet, as of today, it appears the Republican Party will be led into the future by a Beltway favorite of the media and Washington insider who has spent the last quarter of a century on Capitol Hill.

And the Democratic Party appears about to build a bridge to the past by nominating the spouse of the last Democratic president who has herself been a Washington insider for almost 20 years.

Time To Walk Away

DIGG THIS

When I was a child there was an often spoken proverb “believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see.” I think the intent was that we should be suspicious of “hearsay.” We don’t often hear this little proverb now days, but I think it still has much to say about the goings on of our governments and especially the mouth piece of governments; the mainstream media.

Louis L’Amour’s Writing: Authentic? Accurate? Plausible?

DIGG THIS

It was a sale day at the local Books-A-Million, so I dropped in to see if I could find anything interesting. And there on the already discounted remainder table, was The Wild, Wild West of Louis L’Amour: The Illustrated Guide to Cowboys, Indians, Gunslingers, Outlaws and Texas Rangers, by English L’Amour worshipper Bruce Wexler, a 192-page hardback with many neat photos and sketches. Not a bad deal for a totally discounted price (tax included) of $11.98, so I had to have it to join The Louis L’Amour Companion, edited by Robert Weinberg, Education of a Wandering Man, L’Amour’s autobiography, The Sackett Companion: The Facts Behind the Fiction, by L’Amour, and ten or so of L’Amour’s novels and short story collections on the bookshelves and floor of my messy den.

The Media’s Manchurian Candidate
By Joe Mariani
February 4, 2008

With most of the primary elections still to come, the media has anointed John McCain the inevitable Republican candidate. That’s understandable — McCain has been in the pocket of the mainstream media for years. Especially since 2000, he’s been the Republican they could always count on — along with Senators Chuck Hagel (NE) and Dick Lugar (IN) — to say something negative about President Bush’s policies.

Many Americans are content with the 9/11 Commission Report, but the two chairmen of the commission, Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton are not. Neither was commission member Max Cleland, a US Senator who resigned from the 9/11 Commission, telling the Boston Globe (November 13, 2003): “This investigation is now compromised.” Even former FBI director Louis Freeh wrote in the Wall Street Journal (Nov. 17, 2005) that there are inaccuracies in the commission’s report and “questions that need answers.”

Why I Am Voting For Mitt Romney on Tuesday Jack Cashill

Why I Am Voting For Mitt Romney on Tuesday

Republicans have a problem that Democrats do not. We have in our memory the image of what a president should be. So while we pick through the best and deepest line-up of Republicans candidates since about 1860, carping about how each and every one of them fails to live up to Ronald Reagan’s legacy in one way or another, the Dems can get teary-eyed over a sinister hag like Hillary or an untested gasbag like Obama.

What we forget is that Reagan wasn’t always Reagan. At age 40, he was still a New Deal Democrat. As governor of California, then in his 50′s, he signed into law both No-Fault Divorce and the Therapeutic Abortion Act. He came to regret both decisions. Said he of abortion, it had been “a subject I’d never given much thought to.”

On the eve of Super Tuesday, conservatives nationwide were coming smack up against the prospect of their worst nightmare…. Hillary Clinton vs. John McCain. All these years, we kept saying to ourselves — oh, please — surely that won’t happen. Lifting our eyes skyward — we have begged please don’t let it happen. What have we done to deserve this?

HOW THE MEDIA IGNORES RON PAUL & PICKS THE CANDIDATES

Whatever you think of Ron Paul, you have to admit that the media are notoriously biased against him. The Fox News Channel unfairly excluded him from its January 6 debate, while MSNBC and CNN tried to keep him from speaking for any significant length of time during their January 24 and January 30 debates. This is a candidate, we must recall, who placed second in the Republican Nevada caucuses on January 19, beating John McCain.
