How Not To Write American History

[This article is excerpted from a longer report written in 1961 for the Volker Fund and the National Book Foundation on a two-volume American history textbook, A History of the American Republic, by George B. DeHuszar. The full memo will be included in the forthcoming collection Renaissance Man, edited by David Gordon. Audiobook recordings of Murray Rothbard's own narrative history of colonial America — Conceived in Liberty, read by Dr. Floy Lilley — are available for free download.]

JOHN McCAIN
THE MOST FLAWED PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IN HISTORY

It is now clear that what is left of the Republicon Party, after being fatally poisoned by the Bush administration, intents to commit suicide by nominating Senator John McCain (R-Hanoi) for the presidency.  Where do I start?

THE EARLY YEARS

McCain spent his boyhood in exclusive boarding schools where staffers were paid to put up with his tirades. We all did some immature things before we matured. But with McCain, the tirades continue today.

‘First In’ Honors: The Infowar Of Capt. Eric H. May

Honors Recognition

As much as I may feel humbled as a former Marine officer to grant “first in” honors to an Army cavalry and intelligence counterpart (after all, “First To Fight” has always been a U.S. Marine Corps motto), we must give credit to those who lead the charge.

It is now the fifth anniversary of America’s invasion of Iraq, and of the extraordinary intellectual evolution by Captain Eric May. He peeled back layers of deception to expose America’s real enemies (from within) — and possibly sacrificed his own life in the process.

Captain May published five military op-eds in the Houston Chronicle. They are most impressive in their prescience. In 1992 the junior general staff officer accurately predicted the course of the future Iraq War. He also accurately predicted forthcoming events in Somalia. In 2003 he wrote a terror target analysis of the Houston petrochemical district that became standard text for local first responder training within a year. His two early Iraq War essays anticipated a quicksand war in the Middle East that might well turn into World War III. This viewpoint seemed outlandish at the time, but now it is standard among mainstream Bush critics. Four out of five essays have been spot on, and he has worked tirelessly to prevent the fifth forecast, namely the nuking of Houston, from becoming true.

Lone Star Lone Ranger

There are only two possible views of Captain Eric H. May, who has been the Iconoclast intelligence correspondent for the last two years.

The first, cogently presented by Marine Corps Major William B. Fox in his article, Captain Courageous: The Infowar of Eric H. May, is that he is brilliant and brave officer of historic consequence. According to this view, Captain May self-mobilized to answer the call of duty and country at a time when such dedication was most needed.

The second is that Captain May is either delusional or deceitful, or both. According to this view, he has consistently written, spoken and acted on the most controversial events and issues of our times in a vainglorious attempt at self aggrandizement.

I am not an Eliot Spitzer fan. The now-former New York governor and I have disagreed privately and publicly on any number of issues, mostly involving questions of prosecutorial abuse. Still, I have great concern with the manner in which his fall from grace was orchestrated, and with the federal laws and regulations on which it was based. The sad saga of Spitzer should concern every American, or at least all those who maintain accounts at any financial institution or who engage in any form of electronic financial transactions.

DIGG THIS

With Ron Paul out of the presidential race, the age-old pleas of Washington lobbyists are as predictable as the tides:

“We’ve got to unite behind McCain, even if he is the lesser of two evils.”

“The Democrats would be much worse than any Republican.”

“We’ve got to stop Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, or our country is doomed.”

Greedy resource seizure put England into desperate financial straits. From 1642 to 1649, goldsmiths and successful merchants helped finance the English Revolution as well as Oliver Cromwell’s pursuit and execution of King Charles. The government of King William III (reigned from February 13, 1689 to March 8, 1702) was in desperate need of money. William Patterson, seeing an exploitive opportunity, assembled a cartel of wealthy men who agreed to loan the king £1.2 million on the condition that the king pay 8% interest per year. Additionally, the cartel wanted the king to grant a charter creating The Bank of England (established July 27, 1694) which would give the cartel the “sole and exclusive right” to issue notes unprotected by bank assets. ARE WE HEADED FOR JERICHO?

A friend recently turned me on to the CBS television series, Jericho. I watch so little network television that I confess to never having seen the show before this week. Obviously, then, I am quite uninformed as to the overall plot and previous episodes. What I saw Tuesday evening, however, stunned me. Why? Because it very aptly depicted what could become a very real-life scenario for these United States in the not-so-distant future.

The Essence of Liberty: Part 270 (1) Sex discrimination and the 14th Amendment

The Essence of Liberty: Part 270 (1)

Compiled by

Dr. Jimmy T. (Gunny) LaBaume

A Summary of Gutzman, Kevin R.C. The Politically Incorrect Guide™ to the Constitution

(The book is available from the Ludwig von Mises Institute at http://www.mises.org)

Chapter 12: The Court’s Brave New World: From Affirmative Action to Sodomy

Sex discrimination and the 14th Amendment

The 14th Amendment says nothing about sex discrimination. During the 1860s-70s, Congress omitted language from the 15 th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote. A hundred years later, it was ready to break new legislative ground.

In Frontiero v. Richardson (1973), Justice Brennan opined that sex discrimination was on par with race discrimination. If his had been the prevailing opinion, the Court would have once again passed a constitutional amendment into law.

In Craig v. Boren (1976) the Court invalidated an Oklahoma law setting the male drinking age at 21 and the female at 18. In making the law, the Oklahoma legislature had relied on the evidence that boys 18 to 20 were 11 times more likely to be arrested for alcohol-related driving infractions than those aged 21 or older. But, Justice Brennan substituted his “elevated expertise” for the wisdom of a local, elected legislature. There is no relationship between this ruling and the court’s previous definition of the Equal Protection Clause being for the purpose of protecting freed slaves from their masters.

WITCHCRAFT ON THE HOME SHOPPING NETWORK?

By Marsha West

March 28, 2008

Last week I received an email from a pastor asking if I’d help inform the public of the Home Shopping Network’s participation in peddling witchcraft. Included in Dr. Greg Allen’s email was a letter addressed to HSN accusing the company of selling materials with spiritual principles that can be used to “teach their ‘power’ and promote New Age spirituality.” It seems HSN is marketing the Evolve with John Edward collection. Since I don’t watch HSN, I have no idea what products are being peddled to the public. So I needed to visit the website.

IS IT THE UNHOLY TRINITY RUNNING FOR THE WHITE HOUSE?

By Dr. Laurie Roth

It just never stops! Last week I was contacted by a reliable source that had put together the nightmare connections of some of Obama’s fundraisers and supporters (for details go to www.therothshow.com and click on Jim Kouri’s article link as well). A few of these connections have been quickly touched on then avoided in most of the media. The current facts, names, places and events dropped on me last week from a very reliable former CIA agent are currently making the Internet rounds but interestingly seem to be non existent when it comes to the “big dogs” in media and TV. This will be most fascinating to see if anyone in media actually sees Obama’s chronic pattern of poor choices with fund raising supporters and anti American loud mouths. Is anyone home?
