After an intense weekend of negotiations, the draft of the bailout legislation before Congress had swelled to 42 pages.

The following Friday, after almost a week of marathon talks between Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and key lawmakers in both parties, the working version was up to 102 pages. It went down to defeat Monday in the House, mostly at the hands of Republicans.

01/10/08 “ICH” – 30/09/08 — – This morning Bush went back to the microphones to again trash the public for failing to approve of his strong-arm plan to bailout his buddies and to screw the people. ‘Politics must be kept out of this’ has been the constant refrain from the bunch of pretenders who appointed themselves to fix this problem. But “Politics” is not about democrats and republicans it’s about what people think, and it’s about anything that will directly impact the real and long-term futures or millions of ordinary people. What these criminals fail to understand is that: “The act of breathing is political!”

Overlooked in the dictator’s tirade was the fact that the negotiations in Washington are only between the White House, the congress and the Corporate Oligarchs that created this fiasco: Their ‘conversations’ and this legislation have shut-out the public; especially those that have everything to lose. Bush said again that he was trying to reach the American people and to get them to ‘get them on board’ as if the public could still be asleep. What is clear is that the public wants this problem solved; they simply do not believe that there is anything in this giveaway to the criminal-establishment that will change anything about their lives: except to make everything worse, for them!

01/10/09 -”ICH” – – This time last week, the biggest bailout in the history of the world seemed to be a fait accompli. Last weekend, the Fed Chairman and the Secretary of the Treasury had harsh words of doom and gloom for Congressional leaders, with the rest of the administration parroting along, and by last Monday it seemed both parties were about to fall in line and vote our Republic away by socializing the banking industry through this bailout.

Foolish business behavior was about to be rewarded, and propped up a little longer, the bubble blown a little bigger, and our coming Depression made that much greater, but then something happened on the way to the House floor.

Citizens made their voices heard.

The real story behind the story in Congress this week was the thousands of calls and emails sent to Representatives, clogging up inboxes and even slowing down the House internet system. Slowly, like the Titanic turning around, sentiments on the Hill shifted, and we heard Congressmen capitulating and changing their tune a little, desperately trying to find ways to salvage the bailout without completely enraging their constituencies.

Americans are besieged by the current catastrophic economic events. How does one know what is truth?

Truth is dependent on assumptions between what a person has heard and if that person is a seeker of truth. Americans are all to familiar with the fallout from a financial crisis by what has occurred in other countries: homeless citizens, obliterated industries and a collapsed currency (economy). It appears now that this could be America’s misfortune. The public is being asked to first, hand over a $700B bailout in taxpayer’s money, and second to transfer the last vestiges of their financial power to the Federal Reserve through the approval of Treasury’s proposed “Blueprint for a Modernized Financial Regulatory System.” Once both of these events are completed, America will become a shell of what she was at the height of her glory. The consequence to America’s financial cleansing, is that her middle class will be effectively rendered serfs as the wealthy become much richer.

In his brilliant LRC article, “The Yankee Problem in America,” Clyde Wilson describes how America came to be ruled by a peculiar sect of religious, statist fanatics that originated in New England and became known as “Yankees.” Not all Northerners are/were “Yankees,” Professor Wilson wrote, for many are obviously fine people. He was referring to “that peculiar ethnic group descended from New Englanders, who can be easily recognized by their arrogance, hypocrisy, greed, lack of congeniality, and penchant for ordering other people around.” They “have never given up the notion that they are the chosen saints whose mission is to make America, and the world, into the perfection of their own image.” Today we would call them “neocons” or “Hillary Clinton supporters.”

A “Yankee” is “self-righteous, ruthless, and self-aggrandizing,” which is why Hillary Clinton is “a museum-quality specimen of the Yankee,” writes Professor Wilson. The Yankee temperament, moreover, “makes a neat fit with the Stalinism that was brought into the Deep North by later immigrants.” (He was obviously referring to the burgeoning communist movement in New York City in the early twentieth century, which produced so-called “red diaper babies” such as the former communist rabble rouser David Horowitz.)

Two weeks ago the Libertarian nominee pulled out of a press conference Ron Paul had called with the four leading third-party candidates (Barr, Baldwin, Nader, McKinney) to highlight their common ground. Barr decided to hold a press conference of his own down the hall. He also sent Paul a snide note — transmitted to Barr’s e-mail list as well — suggesting that Paul ought to replace the hapless Wayne Allyn Root as Barr’s running mate. This ploy could hardly have been more ham-handed: if Barr wanted to appear generous, he should have offered Paul, obviously by far the bigger attraction, his own slot at the top of the Libertarian ticket. Paul would not have accepted, but Barr at least would have received credit from some libertarians (note the small “l”) for making a serious offer.
