Barack Obama’s foreign policy blundering is now verging on the surreal. When Manuel Zelaya, the socialist president of Honduras, was overthrown, Obama first declared himself “deeply concerned”, then denounced the coup as illegal; now, with the support of the Obama White House, the Organisation of American States has given Honduras a three-day deadline to reinstate Zelaya. This is madness.

Zelaya was unseated by the army, but this was no ordinary military coup. The armed forces were carrying out a decision of the Honduran Supreme Court after it had declared unconstitutional a referendum Zelaya was attempting to hold to extend the length of time he could stay in office. This is a well-known ploy among leftist Latin American leaders in the mould of Hugo Chavez, the Marxist president of Venezuela.

Will the New York City school system be compelled to commemorate Islam on Sept. 11?

It has been widely reported the New York City Council passed a resolution Tuesday recommending the school system shut down to commemorate two of the most important Muslim holidays, however the reports did not note the holidays fall on Sept. 11 in some years.

The council vote, which was non-binding, is at odds with the opinion of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has said he is opposed to adding any more days off to the school calendar. Bloomberg, however, recently relinquished control of the school system to a newly appointed board of education, which could approve the holiday plan.

Back in January 1973, National Lampoon sported a brilliant cover – probably the satirical magazine’s most famous.

A cute black and white dog was the visual element, staring ominously at a revolver pointing at his head. The headline read: “If you don’t buy this magazine, we’ll kill this dog.”

People bought the magazine in droves, not because they believed the editors of National Lampoon were really going to kill the dog, but because it was so funny.

It strikes me that Barack Obama and the Democrat-dominated Congress are governing along the same lines. The only difference? They’re not joking.

Obama: Becoming more and more like a Canadian

By Arthur Weinreb Wednesday, July 1, 2009 In the wake of the ouster of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, Barack Obama had this to say:

We believe that the coup was not legal and that President Zelaya remains the president of Honduras, the democratically elected president there.

Okay, we have to cut the Bamster some slack here because these words were spoken at a press conference and Obama did not have the benefit of his trusty teleprompter to help him out. It’s not exactly clear that what transpired in the Central American country was a coup although the US president seems to assume that it was. Let’s give him that one and assume that it was in fact a coup. What he said was nonsensical; a coup by definition is illegal. The word “coup” is defined as the overthrow of a government by force or illegal means. If what happened in Honduras wasn’t illegal, it wouldn’t have been a coup – it would have been a legal transfer of power. And to think that there are rumors circulating that Obama has a law degree.

By Bob Parks Wednesday, July 1, 2009 Not surprisingly, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled unanimously that Al Franken legally and fairly defeated Norm Coleman for United States Senate. I’m still not buying it…

The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled today that Democrat Al Franken won the U.S. Senate election and said he was entitled to an election certificate that would lead to him being seated in the Senate.

“Affirmed,” wrote the Supreme Court, unanimously rejecting Republican Norm Coleman’s claims that inconsistent practices by local elections officials and wrong decisions by a lower court had denied him victory.
