Jim Thompson: Random thoughts before being shipped to a re-education camp
The Ahwatukee Foothills News ^ | September 16, 2008 | Jim Thompson

I haven’t commented here in some time, fearing my views could bring an assault by the thought police and land me in a “re-education camp.” But then I remembered that Edmund Burke said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” So I will rant…

• It seems, in this Obama administration, that free speech only exists for those who don’t dissent. All the rest of us are thugs, members-of-a-mob, or little NAZIs; or is it that we are dressed too well? Obama’s recent appointment to the FCC will copy China’s “free speech” methods … in spades.

Glenn Beck’s Demagoguery, Right Wing Extremism, & Racism By Stephen Lendman…

Glenn Beck’s Demagoguery, Right Wing
Extremism, & Racism
By Stephen Lendman
9-16-9

At a time of 24-hour news and a proliferation of television and radio talk shows featuring hatemongers and demagogues like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck may stand out as the most unhinged and extremist of all as evidenced by his jihad against anyone to the left of his views, disadvantaged minorities, Muslims, Latino immigrants, and progressive change in some of his most outlandish comments, including:

– calling Barack Obama a “racist (who) has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture; I don’t know what it is….This guy is, I believe, a racist;”

– calling Van Jones “an avowed, radical, revolutionary communist,” then saying “Jones is the tip of the iceberg” as part of his over-the-top campaign against anyone less extremist than himself;

– stating “The most used phrase in my administration if I were to be President would be ‘What the hell do you mean we’re out of missiles;’ “

– saying “We need to be the first ones in the recruitment office lining up to shoot the bad Muslims in the head….In 10 years, Muslims and Arabs will be looking through a razor wire fence at the West;”

– telling Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison to “prove to me that you are not working with our enemies;”

– advocating disposing of Guantanamo detainees by shooting them in the head;

– accusing Al Gore of creating a new “Hitler youth” by promoting environmental awareness, and called for kicking California out of the union;

– in 2003, telling listeners he was praying for a gruesome death for Democrat presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, and in 2005 saying he fantasized about strangling filmmaker Michael Moore;

Public Policy Polling’s habit of asking revealing, bizarre questions continues with a survey of New Jersey voters that finds—as President Obama’s approval rating dips slightly—only 79 percent of voters ready to rule out the possibility that their president is the Anti-Christ. Eight percent say he is, while 13 percent are not sure.

Further breakdowns on that question:

American Rhetoric: Movie Speech from Network – Howard Beale is Mad as Hell….

I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth; banks are going bust; shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter; punks are running wild in the street, and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there’s no end to it.

We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat. And we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be!

Cleon Skousen was a right-wing crank whom even conservatives despised. Then Beck discovered him

On Saturday, I spent the afternoon with America’s new breed of angry conservative. Up to 75,000 protesters had gathered in Washington on Sept. 12, the day after the eighth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, sporting the now familiar tea-bagger accoutrements of “Don’t Tread on Me” T-shirts, Revolutionary War outfits and Obama-the-Joker placards. The male-skewing, nearly all-white throng had come to denounce the president and what they believe is his communist-fascist agenda.

Even if the turnout wasn’t the 2 million that some conservatives tried, briefly, to claim, it was still enough to fill the streets near the Capitol. It was also ample testament to the strength of a certain strain of right-wing populist rage and the talking head who has harnessed it. The masses were summoned by Glenn Beck, Fox News host and organizer of the 912 Project, the civic initiative he pulled together six months ago to restore America to the sense of purpose and unity it had felt the day after the towers fell.

In reality, however, the so-called 912ers were summoned to D.C. by the man who changed Beck’s life, and that helps explain why the movement is not the nonpartisan lovefest that Beck first sold on air with his trademark tears. Beck has created a massive meet-up for the disaffected, paranoid Palin-ite “death panel” wing of the GOP, those ideologues most susceptible to conspiracy theories and prone to latch on to eccentric distortions of fact in the name of opposing “socialism.” In that, they are true disciples of the late W. Cleon Skousen, Beck’s favorite writer and the author of the bible of the 9/12 movement, “The 5,000 Year Leap.” A once-famous anti-communist “historian,” Skousen was too extreme even for the conservative activists of the Goldwater era, but Glenn Beck has now rescued him from the remainder pile of history, and introduced him to a receptive new audience.

The sub-headline over the article says it all: “The investigation into a cop killing in the ’70s leads to a law professor who helped launch Barack Obama’s political career.” The law professor is former Communist terrorist Bernardine Dohrn, a leader of the Weather Underground known for praising mass murderer Charles Manson.

The time has come to ridicule anyone who cries “racism”.

The cry of racism has been diluted to the point of meaninglessness. The time is ripe to mercilessly ridicule all cries of racism and to repeatedly paint anyone who cries racism as an imbecile. AND NEVER LET UP. No conservative should let a broadcast conversation or interview continue that even implies racism without merciless ridicule. Make them take you off the air. Never let up. This issue is a huge win for conservatives if they play it right.

Bachmann: Only ‘Sycophants’ Trust Obama Now

Bachmann: Only ‘Sycophants’ Trust Obama Now
Washington Independent ^ | 9/15/09 | David Weigel

At a small health care briefing put on by several House Republicans, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) argued that the president had lost momentum on health care reform because Americans didn’t trust him when he talked about it.

“What he’s trying to do is boost up the Democrats,” said Bachmann. “The people aren’t listening to him the way that they did before. They were hanging on his every word [before].”

Last week, said Bachmann, was “the first time I felt like we were going to win this thing. I sensed it when the president was in Minnesota. There were a lot of sycophants in that hall. There were not a lot of true believers in that hall.” Republicans were winning over skeptics when they brought “reality-based medicine” into the discussion.

Bachmann, who said last week that Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) “spoke the truth” about illegal immigrants and health care, cited Wilson again when he criticized the White House’s response to the 9/12 march on Washington.

“Probably one of the best lines last week,” she said, “apart from the one that we heard on the house floor, would have been last Friday, when the press asked Robert Gibbs what the White House thought about the Tea Parties on Saturday. I thought it was fascinating. The response was, the White House wasn’t aware of any events on Saturday. And I thought, could there be a more out of touch, politically tone-deaf response than to say we have no idea more than a million people are going to come to our fair city?”

PINE VALLEY, California (CNN) — Dozens of America’s greatest military heroes are gathered in Chicago, Illinois, possibly the last large gathering of living Medal of Honor recipients.

Among the men with light blue ribbons holding a star around their necks signifying uncommon bravery, will be John Finn.

Finn, who received the nation’s highest medal for valor for his actions during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, turned 100 this summer, the oldest living Medal of Honor recipient.

Finn was a lieutenant stationed at Kanoehe Bay Naval Air Station, where the Japanese struck five minutes before attacking Pearl Harbor, across southeast Oahu Island from Kanoehe Bay.

Obama W.H. collects web users’ data (Big ‘brother’)
The Washington Times ^ | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 | Audrey Hudson

The White House is collecting and storing comments and videos placed on its social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube without notifying or asking the consent of the site users, a failure that appears to run counter to President Obama’s promise of a transparent government and his pledge to protect privacy on the Internet.

Defenders of the White House actions said the Presidential Records Act requires that the administration gather the information and that it was justified in taking the additional step of asking a private contractor to “crawl and archive” all such material. Nicholas Shapiro, a White House spokesman, declined to say when the practice began or how much the new contract would cost.

President’s lawyers say eligibility question over
WND ^ | 9/15/09 | Bob Unruh

A team of taxpayer-supported lawyers arguing on behalf of President Obama’s eligibility to occupy the Oval Office say not even the U.S. Supreme Court has any input into the question at this point, and such cases should be barred from the courts.

“The Constitution’s commitment to the Electoral College of the responsibility to select the president includes the authority to decide whether a presidential candidate is qualified for office,” said a brief filed by government lawyers in a California lawsuit over Obama’s eligibility under the Constitution’s demand for a “natural born citizen” in the White House.
