Politico.com is a sort of US Total Politics/Politics Home writ large. It provides an excellent political news and comment service, with its columnist appearing regularly as pundits across the US media. In a very short time it has started to rival the big news organisations in the States. Today, it is trying to shut down a relatively obscure UK Political blog called Tory Politico, on the basis that it is stealing the name Politico. To write a very threatening legal letter to an individual blogger who has perhaps 500 hits a day, seems to be rather OTT. Tory Politico is,…

Drunk on Our Money
The Atlas Society – The Center for Objectivism ^ | 2/5/2010 | Edward Hudgins

Posted on Friday, February 05, 2010 4:05:30 PM by Ed Hudgins

You walk into a bar and see the same drunk who’s there every night lying on the floor in a pool of his reeking fluids. He raises his head and looks around at the room in general—the folks having a few beers, wines, or just Diet Pepsis, as well as the other drunks. With what little coherence he still can muster, he declares: “People drink too much. We gotta get this under control.”

Then, in fits and starts, he utters something like the following: “Yesterday I downed a whole quart of whiskey and a six-pack of brews. Today I was gonna suck in two quarts and two six packs. But I’m cuttin’ back. Today I’ll only lap up a quart and a half of whiskey and a six pack and a half of the suds! See, I cut back by a whole half a quart and half a six-pack!”

He then demands that everyone else alter their own drinking habits as well. He orders another drink and asks everyone else in the bar to pay for it since he’s spent himself broke and his credit is worthless.

Sober people would look with disgust on such a silly sot. Perhaps friends or family would also take pity on him, take away his wallet and car keys, and lock him away in a detox.

He closes with: “Across the world people are looking at their watches and the’re waiting for Barack Obama to disappear!” He’s most certainly a conservative and gives keen insights which you will never, ever hear in the MSM. Ordinary citizens doing the job of the MSM…..I love it!

The FBI is pressing Internet service providers to record which Web sites customers visit and retain those logs for two years, a requirement that law enforcement believes could help it in investigations of child pornography and other serious crimes. FBI Director Robert Mueller supports storing Internet users’ “origin and destination information,” a bureau attorney said at a federal task force meeting on Thursday. As far back as a 2006 speech, Mueller had called for data retention on the part of Internet providers, and emphasized the point two years later when explicitly asking Congress to enact a law making it mandatory….

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 3, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A new poll by Angus Reid Public Opinion shows that a majority of Americans believe the US Supreme Court would defend marriage as between a man and a woman against opponents of California’s Proposition 8, with an even greater majority expressing approval of such a ruling. Both sides of the marriage debate expect that the federal trial of Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex “marriage,” will reach the US Supreme Court. Perry v. Schwarzenegger currently awaits a decision in U.S. District Court – and many speculate the case could end up meaning for…

If Tea Party activists are unhappy with President Barack Obama, it would have been a lot worse under President John McCain, Tom Tancredo declared Thursday in opening remarks at the convention in Nashville, Tenn. “Thank God John McCain lost the election,” the former GOP congressman from Colorado and 2008 presidential candidate said to cheers and applause from the 600 grassroots activists in attendance. In Tancredo’s view, the Tea Party movement would never have been sparked under a McCain administration because Republican Party leaders and activists would have been muffled from criticizing their president. Meanwhile, McCain would be cutting deals with…

It’s one of those numbers that’s so unbelievable you have to actually think about it for a while… Within the next 12 months, the U.S. Treasury will have to refinance $2 trillion in short-term debt. And that’s not counting any additional deficit spending, which is estimated to be around $1.5 trillion. Put the two numbers together. Then ask yourself, how in the world can the Treasury borrow $3.5 trillion in only one year? That’s an amount equal to nearly 30% of our entire GDP. And we’re the world’s biggest economy. Where will the money come from? How did we end…

Like many observers, especially those in the Third World, he thinks U.S. policy is tightly coordinated. In other words, he thinks that the United States was about to sell arms to Beijing’s rival, Taiwan, and have the Dalai Lama, who claims to be the rightful ruler of Chinese-occupied Tibet, come to…

IMAGINE HAVING YOUR driver’s license revoked in Pennsylvania but then being able to get one in Florida – through the mail – that must then be honored here. Now imagine it happens with guns. Because it does. Pennsylvania residents who are denied a license to carry a concealed weapon, or have theirs revoked, have found a loophole that allows them to get a license from another state that must be honored here. “They could be disapproved here and they could apply in Florida and we are not notified,” said Philadelphia Police Lt. Facebook’s page view explosion in the last months of 2009 — plus new evidence that it is becoming the major driver of news — has some analysts wondering whether the site is taking over Google News and personalized Google Reader accounts as America’s leading information hub. To me the issue boils down to a question: should we get our news from our friends, or from the news? snip But the emergence of Facebook as a real driver of news stories tells us something important about how news works. Getting our news from our friends is nothing new. It’s as old…

Tea Party Launches ‘Counter-Revolution’

Posted By Judd Berger On February 4, 2010 @ 11:02 PM In Politics | 162 Comments

The first-ever National Tea Party Convention started with a bang Thursday, as conservative firebrand Tom Tancredo used his kickoff speech to rail against “the cult of multiculturalism” and the country’s “socialist ideologue” president — and declare that the tea party movement is here to stop it.

“The race for America is on right now,” the former GOP Colorado congressman told the crowd in Nashville. “You have launched the counter-revolution.”

And so it begins. According to convention organizer Judson Phillips, the event’s 600 tickets have sold out. Tea party supporters from all across the country arrived at the Gaylord Opryland hotel Thursday for a weekend of strategy sessions, workshops and speeches.

The convention is much, much smaller than the party-sanctioned Democratic and Republican ones, but the opulence of the Opryland grounds — and the $500+ ticket price — give it the air of something more official.

Obama’s prayer: ‘Don’t question my citizenship’
Raises issue of eligibility in speech at annual breakfast gathering

WorldNetDaily

President Obama today at the National Prayer Breakfast raised the issue of his own eligibility for office – saying that people shouldn’t be questioning his “citizenship.”

Talking about the issue of “civility,” he said, “Now, I am the first to confess I am not always right. Michelle will testify to that. But surely you can question my policies without questioning my faith, or, for that matter, my citizenship.”

The video:

Obama continues, “Challenging each other’s ideas can renew our democracy. But when we challenge each other’s motives, it becomes harder to see what we hold in common. We forget that we share at some deep level the same dreams – even when we don’t share the same plans on how to fulfill them.”

The questions, however, over Obama’s “citizenship,” actually go to the core of the American republic. Multiple lawsuits have challenged that he is not qualified for the Oval Office under the Constitution’s requirement that U.S. presidents be a “natural born citizen.”

The plaintiffs – who run into the hundreds so far and who still have a number of cases pending at the appellate level – have alleged that failing to meet that constitutional requirement means he actually is a usurper, with no actual authority to be president.

Since President Obama began a series of proposals to tax big banks and limit their size and activities, wrapped in angry rhetoric, the S&P 500 has tumbled 8%. Bank bashing isn’t the only reason: European debt fears, China’s lending crackdown and broader uncertainty over taxes and other government policies all are playing a role. However, the recent market sell-off underscores a basic point: Populism may seem like a political necessity, but it’s an economic luxury.

Is it me or is everything so breathlessly unexpected in this historic presidency? Retails sales unexpectedly weak. GDP unexpectedly low. Unemployment unexpectedly high. As a thirty plus year observer of the markets and the economy, never has so much unexpectedness bedeviled those whose business it is to forecast expectations. How is it possible that the December jobless claims originally reported at a loss of 85,000 jobs (which I needn’t point out was unexpected) be revised down to a loss of 150,000? How could it also be that the January report of an unexpected loss of 20,000 jobs added to the…

(CNN) — When Annie Brown’s daughter, Isabel, was a month old, her pediatrician asked Brown and her husband to sit down because he had some bad news to tell them: Isabel carried a gene that put her at risk for cystic fibrosis. While grateful to have the information — Isabel received further testing and she doesn’t have the disease — the Mankato, Minnesota, couple wondered how the doctor knew about Isabel’s genes in the first place. After all, they’d never consented to genetic testing. It’s simple, the pediatrician answered: Newborn babies in the United States are routinely screened for a…

According to the annual “Index on Economic Freedom,” produced by the Heritage Foundation, the United States now ranks 8th, just behind Canada. That’s a drop of two full points since last year, and the largest drop of all nations in overall economic freedom………

Not Your Father’s Army ~ by Pastor Chuck Baldwin

February 5, 2010 Leave a comment

Not Your Father’s Army
Most of us Americans have a deep and abiding respect and admiration for our country’s fighting men who have served–and are serving–within the US Armed Forces. We appreciate their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way for the preservation of our nation’s liberty and independence. We honor their sacrifice. Indeed, many of us share that sacrifice with the deaths, dismemberments, and paralysis of our most cherished loved ones who were killed or injured in the line of duty. It is time, however, that we awaken to the reality of what our military is becoming and where it is heading.
