Barack Obama critics, like Rush Limbaugh, top annual list of influential radio hosts

To no one’s surprise, the top dogs in talk radio remain a chorus of Barack Obama critics led by Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh is No. 1, as usual, on the annual “Heavy Hundred” list of influential hosts just published by the trade magazine Talkers.Sean Hannity, ranked No. 2, commented on the eve of the 2008 election that while he felt John McCain would be a better President, an Obama presidency would be a bonanza for talk radio. He’s been proven right, as the conservatives who dominate the major talk radio airwaves have scored solid ratings by teeing off on all things.

The House The Progressives Built
Maybe Patrick Buchanan in his 2004 book Where the Right Went Wrong can tell us why Gingrich was silent about the GOP reform on his watch. Buchanan writes about the Republican Revolution of 1994, when, in 1995, Newt Gingrich backed down in his showdown with Clinton. Clinton, at the nadir of his presidency, refused to accept Gingrich-Dole cuts in the growth of Medicare, which they had embedded in a budget resolution and sent to the White House………

As everyone expected, Rush Limbaugh held onto his number one spot in this year’s “Heavy Hundred.” This annual list by Talkers magazine rates the most popular and influential hosts on talk radio, and as usual, the list is dominated by conservatives. Contrary to some dire predictions, it seems that having a Democrat in the White House has in fact energized talk radio. The New York Daily News notes that “even the two advice talkers in the top 10 – Dr. Laura Schlessinger at No. 5 and Dave Ramsey at No. 7 – don’t care much for Obama’s policies.” Glenn…

Gunny G: OohRah!

March 2, 2010 Leave a comment

EMBLEM!

OohRah!Ever wonder where some of the most common items of our Marine Corps history came from? Things like the term “Jarhead,” etc.? Most of these things are pretty well known by all Marines. But, then, there are also numerous cases where our accepted history is just plain inaccurate. For instance, Major Devereaux’s last message from the besieged Wake Island in early World War Two–”Send Us More Japs”–or that the red stripe on the blue uniform trousers of officers and NCOs (sometimes referred to as bloodstripes) commemorates  the Marine blood spilled at the battle of Chapultapec in 1847. These two items are not true, and there are many more things like this that I have addressed elsewhere on my websites.

And then there are some cases where the origin of certain traditions are altogether unknown. Take for example, the case of the well known OohRah! What is its origin? What is its meaning? When and where did it start? Is it related to similar cries now in use by other military services? Nobody knows for sure. Yeah, most everybody has an opinion, but what is the straight scoop? Some of the more popular “opinions” on this include that OohRah comes from either (take your pick) a Turkish or a Russian battle cry, and was somehow adopted by U.S. Marines. For many years, I, myself, leaned in the direction that it may have originated with the 1956 film, The DI, staring Jack Webb as T/Sgt Jim Moore, who, in that movie, the “gunny” commands his recruit platoon (paraphrased), “Let me hear you GROWL, tigers!”

In any case, opinions on this abound–some ridiculous, some even humorous,  but like I already said, nobody seems to knows for sure. OohRah is now well-entrenched in Marine Corps tradition, and although I have found that it is generally disliked and its use disapproved of by many old time Marines, one thing is for sure–it is here to stay! Personally, I think that provided we could determine valid and meaningful historical origin, much of this disapproval  by old timers would soon be forgotten. And it seems like OohRah’s origin is not so far distant in our past that there should still be some old salts around even now who can clue us in on the straight scoop.

Somewhere I read….”The sea story is the traditional means by which wisdom is passed on from the older generation of Marines to the younger generation.”
-Author Unknown

That makes sense to me, and I have thought that if we’re ever going to get an answer on this it will be from Marines who were there and know. For at least a couple years now I have been using the resources of my e-mail and websites to seek information from Marines on this question, but the results have been disappointing. Up to now, that is.

On 12 May 2002, I received the following information from  Marine Bob Rader (Sgt Wolf); the info had first been posted to the Sgt Grit’s Bulletin Board and then e-mailed to me. *****************
From Whence It Came?

Received this among some other stuff from an old college classmate and former Force Troops Recon Marine, Dr. Frank Osanka:

The Recon Marines (and maybe all Marines), have their “OORAH” and the Army its “HOOAH”! But what is the origin of these exclamations by troops (can’t call them words– they are better described as sounds)? When used they are unmistakenly expressions of verve, spirit, morale, espirit, eliteness and sometimes derision! They are responses, greetngs, etc.

You won’t find anything in Navy BuPers files. Marine Corps directives or Army regulations prescribing that they be used. Yet, they permeate the ranks and their origins ought to be recorded for they are as much military lexicon as “SNAFU,” “GI”, “Kilroy was here”, “P38″, etc. And, woe betide the commander who thinks he can put an end to their use! They are exclusive property of those who use them and rightfully so–for what it means to them transcends anything a leader can do to give them unity and a sense of belonging!

Whey did they start? Who started them? Why are they so popular with the troops? I can’t answer the question…”OORAH”is answered below, courtesy of Gary “Buddha” Marte, (former Marine).

OK, HERE IT IS! THE DEFINITION AND HISTORY OF ‘OORAH’

The topic was President Barack Obama and his legislative agenda. Limbaugh proceeded to answer his listener’s queries concerning why Bill O’Reilly, the host of the O’Reilly Factor (FOX News Channel) would never refer to Obama as a socialist. Limbaugh began to role play, saying, “I’m Bill O’Reilly. Barack Obama is not a socialist…” The message was clear. As the Massachusetts blame game unfolds, the president’s unpopular health bill leads the list. But the substantive provisions of the bill were just part of the problem. Perhaps more important, voters were appalled by how the deal unfolded.

Consider the pre-election giveaway to the labor unions. Negotiators agreed to exempt union contracts until 2018 from the tax on so-called Cadillac health-insurance plans. That backroom bargain not only outraged the voters, it also violated the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution, requiring the federal government to extend equal protection of the laws to all U.S. persons. Of course, not all voters understood the constitutional nuances, but they sensed that something was very wrong; and they reacted.

Not surprisingly, a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released last Friday revealed that 56 percent of Americans think the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to their rights and freedoms. Particularly apropos here is the feds’ health care violation of the 10th Amendment, which is part of our Bill of Rights and was ratified Dec. 15, 1791. The amendment says, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Thomas Jefferson explained the pre-eminence…

    B. Hussein Obama was touted as America’s foreign relations savior, the deity who would repair America’s image with the rest of the world. How has Obama done with the middle east? Not so good. He has bowed and scraped in front of the Saudi King, not been able to control Iran and Aquavelvejihad, upset Israel, bowed almost to the floor for the Japanese Emperor, and allowed the North Korean dwarf to push him around. How has B. Hussein Obama done with our greatest ally, Great Britain? He couldn’t have done any worse if he had defecated at the Queen’s feet.

The Guardian reports that President Obama’s doctors have recommended he moderate his “alcohol intake.” Most reportage on the president’s recent physical has focused on Mr. Obama’s continuing smoking habit, but revelation of a potential drinking problem is a much bigger story. How much “alcohol intake” does it take to get a doctor’s attention? And what did the president drink and when did he drink it? If nothing else it might help explain some of Mr. Obama’s policy priorities, and why the government is spending money like a drunken sailor.

The Cup of Christ

Written by Ignatius Brianchaninov

St Ignatius (Brianchaninov)Two beloved disciples asked the Lord for thrones of glory, and He gave them His Cup (Matthew 20.23).

The Cup of Christ is suffering. But for those who drink from it on earth, the Cup of Christ grants participation in Christ’s Kingdom. It prepares for them the thrones of eternal glory in heaven. We stand in silence before the Cup of Christ, nor can any man complain about it or reject it; for He, Who commanded us to taste it, first drank of it Himself.

Paul burned by Tea Party blowback
Politico ^ | February 27, 2010 | ALEX ISENSTADT

Rep. Ron Paul, the libertarian-oriented Republican whose 2008 presidential run provided kindling for the Tea Party movement, suddenly finds himself dealing with the blowback: a handful of Tea Party-inspired candidates are seeking to dislodge him in Tuesday’s Texas Republican primary.

It’s an unusual turn of events for a veteran congressman who has reached stardom in conservative populist circles and who just last week emerged as the victor of the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Yet despite his solid anti-establishment credentials and non-conformist views, Paul finds himself under siege from three Republicans who are embracing many of the themes that have defined Paul’s career. At the heart of the resistance is the notion that the 10-term Paul has gone Washington, abandoning his constituents as he pursues his white whale—the presidency.

“To be honest, I was surprised when these guys started coming out of the woodwork,” said Fort Bend County GOP Chairman Rick Miller. “They’re trying to tap into the idea that it’s time for a new face. It’s a sign of the times. It’s what’s happening in our country.”

Bounty hunter finds himself on wrong side of law
Nashville City Paper ^ | 03/01/2010 | Nashville City Paper

Posted on Monday, March 01, 2010 7:21:31 PM by The Magical Mischief Tour

The knock at the door was less a rap than it was an impact, a succession of hinge-rattling concussions.

It was 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, and the home’s occupants — 68-year-old Cleo Keeler, her daughter, grandchildren and foster children, some nine in all — sat in stunned silence on what had been a quiet evening.

“Who’s there?”

A muffled voice answered through the door: “U.S. marshals!” The federal agent was threatening to kick the door down. With choices limited to replacing a splintered door and opening it, someone finally let the man in. But it wasn’t just one man. A handful of armed toughs streamed into the home off of Charles E. Davis Boulevard. One had his pistol drawn and pointed at Keeler’s 16-year-old grandson.

But it was the man at the head of the bunch who cut the most striking figure. He was square-jawed and had a set of gleaming, pearly whites. He wore an expensive-looking jacket — maybe rabbit — which he pulled back at the waist to reveal a holstered pistol. He wore a set of chunky gold chains around his neck and looked sort of like a pimp, Keeler’s daughter Kathy Patterson thought.

But she recognized him from around south Nashville almost instantly. His name was David Fletcher. A nice-looking young man, she remembered, but he ran with a rough crowd, always hanging out on the streets, either consuming or selling drugs.

The man with the pistol pointed at the boy said he had a warrant for his arrest and pinned him to the ground, according to a lawsuit filed by the family in Davidson County Circuit Court on Feb. 3.

Keeler was terrified, and Fletcher, according to Patterson, said, “Calm your mama down! Calm your mama down!” Patterson thought they were all going to be shot. After all, how could a man with Fletcher’s background be on the right side of the law?

The family repeatedly asked the men for identification, the filing says, but none was shown. Finally, Fletcher produced a photocopied image of a 26-year-old named Cody Bryant, who was accused of aggravated assault. Apparently, Bryant missed a court date. The boy whom the man with the gun had pinned down was definitely not the convicted felon they were after. Patterson said they didn’t look remotely similar. Lawmen had been by the rental home before looking for Bryant, a previous tenant. The felon, as it turned out, had a $10,000 bond.

These men weren’t federal agents there to protect and serve. They were bounty hunters after a bail-jumper with a price tag on his head, hoping to cash in on a juicy reward. And so they beat a hasty retreat, declining to show identification, court documents say.

Bounty hunter a convicted felon

It’s no secret that bounty hunters — or fugitive recovery agents, as they refer to themselves — operate in that murky hinterland between civilians who are necessary tools of the law and mercenaries whose methods are questionable, sometimes illegal.

According to Tennessee law, fugitive recovery agents have every right to do what they do. But other than the police, there is no governmental regulatory body to keep them in check. There is no definitive number for how many fugitive recovery agents there are in Tennessee for a few reasons: One, to be a fugitive recovery agent, a person needs only the credentials that come with an eight-hour training course through the Tennessee Association of Professional Bonding Agents. Two, bounty hunters in the field say many earn the credentials, but few actually become active recovery agents.

On that March evening, though, there was nothing gray about the area of law Fletcher is accused of operating in. The young man Fletcher was after had a rap sheet pretty similar to his own. In fact, if one were inclined to compare resumes, Fletcher’s blew the kid’s out of the water. Try felony theft, felony sale of cocaine, fraud, criminal impersonation, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated burglary and resisting an officer. Fletcher did not return messages for comment left by The City Paper with friends and his current employer.

Of course, that’s all ancient history. His friends say Fletcher came up on the street and carries some of the attendant baggage associated with a rough start in life. Bill Tomlinson of T Bonding Co., a bondsman and former employer of Fletcher, said he’s a decent guy trying to make good.

“He went to jail and he done some time,” Tomlinson said. “I know in the last 10 years he’s tried to flip himself around.” When speaking of job performance, though, Tomlinson said his past makes him an exceptionally adept “fugitive recoverer.” Tomlinson said he’s got the street smarts to find just about any bail-jumping crook, no matter how elusive.

There’s a problem, though: It’s illegal to have convicted felons out there “recovering” bail-jumping felons. Same for fugitive recovery agents with felonies carrying around pistols. Felons can’t have guns. Ever. So when Fletcher took a posse to Springfield, Tenn., in December 2008 to nab a fugitive, and they kicked down the door to the wrong house, this became a problem for him, a spokesman for Springfield police said. When U.S. marshals came to his home with an arrest warrant and found ammunition in August 2009, it became a huge problem. He’s now awaiting trial in federal court for being a felon in possession of ammunition.

This sent waves through Nashville’s bail bonding community. Complaints found their way to the right people, and Judge Mark Fishburn, the presiding judge over the trial courts of Davidson County, sent out a letter in April 2009 forbidding bail bondsmen from using Fletcher and threatening sanctions against those who do. He mentioned the cocaine conviction against Fletcher, along with the felony theft case.

It’s axiomatic: Discrimination accounts for racial inequality in our society, and government action is needed to fix this injustice. Not so fast, says economist Thomas Sowell. There are many causes of inequality, and discrimination often explains less than we think it does. Furthermore, discrimination is most powerful when it’s state policy, because government can force someone else to pay the price of discrimination. Sowell: Yes. And they are a tremendous threat to the more militant blacks on campus who make a determined effort to keep them out. I mentioned in that book a young woman who did very well on…

Former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., during his run for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination

Former Colorado congressman and Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo told WND today that if no one to his liking emerges in the 2012 run for the White House, he will consider another bid for the GOP nomination and would not rule out becoming a third-party candidate, as a “last option.”

Tancredo, known for his strong stance against illegal immigration, spoke to WND after a Dutch newspaper published an interview article in which he said he didn’t view the GOP’s 2008 vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, as “presidential.”

Tancredo told WND that if Republicans “end up repeating the mistakes of the past” he would run again.

“I am convinced that we’ve got one more shot at this before the Republican Party comes apart at the seams, if they really don’t get it right,” he said.

‘I’m willing to be sort of a team player, although I certainly have no strong philosophical commitment to the Republican Party,” he added. “It’s just a mechanism … not a thing with which you can have some great affinity.”

Tancredo, a WND columnist, said if the party picks “somebody really good,” he would “take a pass.”

The Right To Be Left Alone…

POLICE AS A STANDING ARMY…?

PART II

POLICE AS A STANDING ARMY

It is largely forgotten that the war for American independence was initiated in large part by the British Crown’s practice of using troops to police civilians in Boston and other cities.244 Professional soldiers used in the same ways as modern police were among the primary grievances enunciated by Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence. (“[George III] has kept among us standing armies”; “He has affected to render the military independent of and superior to the civil power”; “protecting them, by a mock trial….”).245 The duties of such troops were in no way military but involved the keeping of order and the suppression of crime (especially customs and tax violations).

Constitutional arguments quite similar to the thesis of this article were made by America’s Founders while fomenting the overthrow of their government. Thomas Jefferson proclaimed that although Parliament was supreme in its jurisdiction to make laws, “his majesty has no right to land a single armed man on our shores” to enforce unpopular laws.246 James Warren said that the troops in Boston were there on an unconstitutional mission because their role was not military but rather to enforce “obedience to Acts which, upon fair examination, appeared to be unjust and unconstitutional.”247 Colonial pamphleteer Nicholas Ray charged that Americans did not have “an Enemy worth Notice within 3000 Miles of them.”248 “[T]he troops of George the III have cross’d the wide atlantick, not to engage an enemy,” charged John Hancock, but to assist constitutional traitors “in trampling on the rights and liberties of [the King's] most loyal subjects …”249

The use of soldiers to enforce law had a long and sullied history in England and by the mid-1700s were considered a violation of the fundamental rights of Englishmen.250 The Crown’s response to London’s Gordon Riots of 1780 — roughly contemporary to the cultural backdrop of America’s Revolution — brought on an immense popular backlash at the use of guards to maintain public order.251 “[D]eep, uncompromising opposition to the maintenance of a semimilitary professional force in civilian life” remained integral to Anglo-Saxon legal culture for another half century.252

Writing for Hot Air, Ed Morrissey reports that libertarian-oriented Republican Congressman Ron Paul is more than a bit perturbed by the primary challenge he’s facing from a tea party candidate. In an email sent to supporters, Paul says that both parties are ”doing everything they can to make sure I am defeated.” He adds: “These candidates include three Republicans in my own primary on March 2,” he wrote (emphasis added by me), “and they will stop at nothing to tear down and destroy all we have worked for.” Especially the last sentence is stunning in its arrogance. No one would think it fair, in any endeavor, whether it was in Academic League or professional sport that the opposition would both control the clock and the referees. Yet that is exactly what happened at the Obama health care summit. President Barry Hussein Soetoro was both the time keeper and the referee. As a result many supposed unbiased reporters claimed that Soetoro dominated the event and that he always had an answer for every point and that he always had the last word. Well duh? My father, Ronald Reagan, battled successfully to simplify the tax code but his work has been largely undone. The arrogance of those who use the tax code to manipulate citizen behavior and Congressional ambitions for personal advancement have again corrupted the already destructive income tax system. It will fall to the American people to once again reject unfair taxation that favors the mighty at the expense of the public. These 237 years after the Boston Tea Party and 31 years after the tax revolt that contributed to the election of my father as President, America is again rejecting “taxation without…

“On the morning of February 23, he saw the first U.S. flag go up on Suribachi’s peak, followed shortly thereafter by the second, larger flag, the raising of which was immortalized at 1/400th second in Rosenthal’s famous photograph. Akikusa’s descriptions up to this point correspond completely to American accounts of the event. But what followed afterward appears to contradict the official U.S. Naval version of the battle.

The following morning, as Akikusa relates in his book, “It was not the Stars & Stripes, but the Nissho-ki (Japanese Sun flag) that was waving. Even though the peak was the target of attack from every direction on the island, I thought how hard they must have fought, and tears naturally came to my eyes. The valiant fighters were defending Mt. Suribachi to the death.”

The U.S. troops quickly hauled down the Japanese standard and replaced it with their own flag. But early the next morning, February 25, “the Nissho-ki was once again fluttering in the morning sunshine. It was a dazzling, beautiful sight.”

Barack Obama came to the presidency promising to be America’s first post-partisan president. It is, therefore, ironic that one of his signature achievements has been to roll back one of the great bipartisan triumphs of the last two decades. Under the guise of helping unemployed Americans in a tough economy, the Obama administration and its congressional allies are reversing the 1996 welfare reforms that have been lauded as an overwhelming success by Republicans and Democrats alike for lifting millions of Americans from poverty. Before welfare reform, under the federal assistance program called Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), the…

Who Rules The World? – Part 3
The Origin Of Evil – Ancient Mythology Or Occult Reality?
By Philip Jones
7-16-9“It is almost a joke now in the Western world, in the 20th century, to use words like ‘good and ‘evil’. They have become almost old fashioned concepts, but they are very real and genuine concepts. These are concepts from a sphere which is higher than us. And instead of getting involved in base, petty, short-sighted political calculations and games. we have to recognize that the concentration of world Evil and the tremendous force of hatred is

there and it’s flowing from there throughout the world. And we have to stand up against it and not hasten to give to it, give to it, give to it, every-thing that it wants to swallow.”
– Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

Introduction

Having provided the reader in Parts One and Two with evidence, albeit of a somewhat gnostic[13] and mythical, that the `seed` of the Fallen Angels and that of the Satanic line of Cain survived the `Great Flood,` I will in this the concluding `episode` attempt to `connect the dots` and bring us up to the present day, and answer the question which is the very subject base of this article; namely; Who Rules The World?

Separation From “The World”
Grace Gems ^ | 19th Century | J.C. Ryle

A true Christian will strive to do his duty in whatever station or position he finds himself, and to do it well. Whether statesman, or merchant, or banker, or lawyer, or doctor, or tradesman, or farmer, he will try to do his work so that no one can find occasion for fault in him. But he will not allow it to get between him and Christ. If he finds his business beginning to eat up his Sundays, his Bible-reading, his private prayer time, and to bring clouds between him and heaven, he will say, “Stand back! There is a limit. This is as far as you can go, and no further. I cannot sell my soul for position, fame, or gold.” Like Daniel, he will make time for communion with God, whatever the cost may be. He will deny himself anything rather than lose his Bible-reading and his prayers. In all this he will find he stands almost alone. Many will laugh at him, and tell him they get along just fine without being so strict and particular. He will not listen. He will resolutely hold the world at arms length, whatever present loss or sacrifice it may seem to entail. He will choose rather to be less rich and prosperous in this world, than not to prosper about his soul. To stand alone in this way, to run counter to the ways of others, requires immense self-denial. But this is genuine Scriptural separation.

It is the excess of…innocent things which a true Christian must watch against, if he wants to be separate from the world. He must not devote his whole heart, and soul, and mind, and strength, and time to them, as many do, if he wishes to serve Christ. There are hundreds of lawful things which are good in moderation, but bad when taken in excess. Healthful medicine taken in small quantities is good, but downright poison when swallowed down in huge doses. In nothing is this so true as it is in the matter of recreations. The use of them is one thing, and the abuse of them is another. The Christian who uses them must know when to stop, and how to say “Enough!” Do they interfere with his private religion? Do they take up too much of his thoughts and attention? Have they a secularizing effect on his soul? Have they a tendency to pull him down to earth? Then let him be very careful. All this will require courage, self-denial, and firmness.

There are many in the press today caricaturing me as a “conspiracy theorist” simply because I, like millions of other Americans, insist on actually seeing proof of Barack Obama’s constitutional eligibility. I’ve never alleged a conspiracy. Obama was given a free pass by an opponent who had his own eligibility issues. Not much of a conspiracy necessary – especially with Obama accountable only to a fawning press and scared-of-their-shadows Republicans.

Carl Cameron Investigates Part 1 – Israel Is Spying In And On The U.S.?

Author: Carl Cameron

(Apparently the 4-part report by Carl Cameron is no longer available by FoxNews…???)

Part I:
BRIT HUME, HOST:

It has been more than 16 years since a civilian working for the Navy was charged with passing secrets to Israel. Jonathan Pollard pled guilty to conspiracy to commit espionage and is serving a life sentence. At first, Israeli leaders claimed Pollard was part of a rogue operation, but later took responsibility for his work.

Now Fox News has learned some U.S. investigators believe that there are Israelis again very much engaged in spying in and on the U.S., who may have known things they didn’t tell us before September 11. Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron has details in the first of a four-part series.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

CARL CAMERON, FOX NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Since September 11, more than 60 Israelis have been arrested or detained, either under the new patriot anti-terrorism law, or for immigration violations. A handful of active Israeli military were among those detained, according to investigators, who say some of the detainees also failed polygraph questions when asked about alleged surveillance activities against and in the United States.

In a lifetime of associations of nearly exclusively unsavory characters, poet and pornographer Frank Marshall Davis ranks among the least savory of the lot.

Davis was a communist, poet, alcoholic, sexual deviant, and fomenter of racial hatred. Cleverly disguised as Frank in Dreams, we learn that young Barry was treated to Davis’s counsel on numerous occasions. Dear Grandpa Stanley, blessed with an inordinate amount of free time, thanks to his wife’s hard work, enjoyed whiling away the hours with Davis, drinking and smoking pot.

In yet another series of twists and loops, Davis was born in Kansas, as were the Dunhams. It is not entirely clear whether Davis and Dunham knew each other in Kansas. Davis, an unabashed admirer of the Soviet Union, member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), and cultivator of racial hatred, worked as a columnist in Chicago, where he fancied himself someone of great importance.

Obama’s Middle-Class Meltdown

Obama’s Middle-Class Meltdown
The Daily Beast ^ | February 27, 2010 | Joel Kotkin

Posted on Sunday, February 28, 2010 8:39:31 PM by 2ndDivisionVet

By cozying up to Wall Street and pushing climate change, the president is playing to the coasts—and losing middle America. Joel Kotkin on the Dems’ disconnect—and the GOP’s problems exploiting it.

The rapid decline in public support for Democrats and President Obama represents one of the most breathtaking political collapses in modern times. Little over a year from a huge electoral triumph, President Obama’s level of support has dropped from around 65% to under 50%. The Democrats in Congress, who held as much as a 10% edge over the Republicans last spring, actually are losing a “generic” vote.

Many Republicans and conservatives may think this represents a confirmation of their values. Yet in reality, the Democratic meltdown has less to do with belated admiration for the GOP—their support as a party remains at historically low levels—than a question of a massive disconnect between the people in power and the large, middle-class majority.

The Great Disconnect reflects a growing chasm between the normative “wisdom” within political parties and their aligned media, academic and policy cadres. The Disconnect in part derives from the tendency of politicos and their associates to converse mostly with each other—and not develop much of a direct feel for that vast, and increasingly complex, country beyond the Beltway.

As President, Barack Obama’s Great Disconnect seems most obvious. Although he occasionally uses populist middle-class rhetoric, both Obama’s priorities and body language suggest his inspiration comes largely from the rarified world of the universities and Democratic Party contributors.

Not surprising then that he started with a stimulus package that, although one was needed, offered little to private sector Main Street businesses. Instead, the primary beneficiaries turned out to be Wall Street grandees, whose high salaries he variously denounces and excuses, and public employee unions.

Obama’s move was encouraged by the aging leadership of the Democratic Party, shaped by places like Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco and Henry Waxman’s lushly affluent Beverly Hills. It has little to do with the views of the middle class who reside generally in smaller towns and less-than-tony suburbs—but some of the wealthiest, and most privileged, populations on earth.

President Obama’s other key constituency lies in the public sector unions, whose power in his home state of Illinois now rivals and perhaps surpasses that of Daley machine. Even as middle-class voters see their pensions dwindle along with their housing prices and jobs, the public sector has waxed into something resembling the Blue Meanie in Yellow Submarine who consumes everything in sight, and ultimately itself.

Perhaps nothing so illustrates the Great Disconnect than the president and the congressional lions embrace of the radical green climate green climate change agenda. Still popular in upper-class urban areas and university towns, this agenda is notably less well-supported in middle and working class communities, particularly in the middle of the country.

Even before the Climategate revelations—which led to one top warmist figure admitting to the BBC that there had been in fact “no statistically significant” warming over the past fifteen years—the agenda was losing support, ranking it dead last among 20 priorities in a Pew survey last year. Now the are becoming openly skeptical, with support for the notion of primarily human-caused warming falling since April from 47 top 35%.

President Obama must realize that prioritization of the climate agenda, along with other coastal liberal priorities, undermines Democratic support in the Great Plains and the Great Lakes, where the party recently has been making some significant gains. The recent withdrawals of Senators Byron Dorgan and Evan Bayh reflect the Democrats’ growing vulnerability in these regions. Recent polls in Iowa, where Obama won his signature primary victory in 2008, show the president’s popularity at less than 50 percent, in large part to losses among independent voters.

Yet if Americans have been departing the Democrats, does it follow that they will shift en masse to the GOP? There is reason for skepticism here as well. After all, this is the same party that, along with the Democrats, supported massive spending under George Bush and actively promoted the disastrous de-regulation of the financial markets. The prescience of the likes of former Majority Leader Dick Armey—a co-conspirator in the Bush era’s profligacy—at the forefront of the Tea Parties should worry even the most credulous small-government activist.

The Republican claim to the populist mantle is even more suspect. Republicans like House Minority Leader John Boehner have cozied up to Wall Street, hoping to take advantage of rising “buyer’s remorse” among the grandees. Suggesting Republicans could shield the financial sector from even modest Democrat efforts to make them face consequences for their loathsome and disastrous folly, they unintentionally show that their critique of the president’s “crony capitalism” largely involves shifting the identity of the cronies.

This comment from the Post and Email sums up what i believe…Frank Marshall Davis is Obama’s father, having bedded the young Ann Dunham, his communist buddy’s daughter. As we know from O himself in his book, FMD was a frequent guest discussing politics and smoking dope with grandpa.

After Ann and the pawn Obama Sr ( a useful decoy who does not look a microdot like Obama Jr ) were divorced, she married Lolo Soetoro (LS as referred to below) who adopted O, thus making him an indonesian citizen…doubtful anyone bothered to get paperwork re-establishing O as a US citizen. So this is reason why the wonky SS# and other paperwork has all been conjured.

see comment below: ————————————— E Glenn Harcsar says: Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 9:15 AM

Here’s my take after following since June 2008. (This is not an original thesis of mine.) BOjr is a NBC by SAD and FMD. BOsr is a stooge to hide the real father’s infidelity and pedophilia, along with MPD and SD knowledge of the abuse of their daughter. LS comes in to sweep up the mess, as duty calls. They all went along with it ( and could get away with it) because each in some real way is connected to the “gas” company, the same one that funded the Dunham’s move to Hawai’i, Anne’s globe tripping and little Barry’s early education through real estate held under alias.

We’re stuck with a 50 year old lie that has been doctored, bandaged, clipped, and falsified, and more recently scrubbed, snubbed, and whacked because the company still needs the information it is charged to gather centralized.
