I have a whole new attitude towards Glenn Beck Compares him to the Guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh]
The man appears to have some idea about what’s wrong with this country. I don’t know what the answers are, and he sounds smart and educated. But I still don’t understand what he says. The only way for me to be sure of what he’s saying is to listen to him more and more. If I buy all of his books and listen to all of his shows, then maybe I’ll have the answers.
Also, the phenomenon of Beck has to be put into the context of the current economic crisis. The Great Recession has brought its own set of anxieties to almost all Americans, and Beck’s jeremiads about the evils of Nazi Communism fit right in.And of course, the last piece in the puzzle is, that it can never, ever be your fault that you’re feeling inadequate, lonely, isolated, and afraid. The only option is to engage in a hate fest. The more you hate your enemies, the more pure you are.So much for Glenn Beck‘s followers. As to Beck himself, do you think that he’s a 9.9 on a scale of 10 of someone with a messiah complex?
And don’t you think that Beck’s constant references to Adolph Hitler mean that deep down, he actually is kind of in love with the guy?Ultimately, the phenomenon of Glenn Beck is an indictment against the American society and the way it’s currently constituted. The fact that there are not enough venues to establish real communities where people really know and care about their neighbors, even if they don’t always get along with each other, means that there are a lot of atomized, scared, lonely people looking for someone who will be their Savior.
