“They decided the time was right to bring forward his departure and for Jones to step aside. We always knew it was going to be roughly in this window, at the end of this year. But we’re making a lot of changes now with Rahm leaving, and there was a sense of just, ‘Let’s get this done now.’”

But there was more to the timing than the ripple effects of Rahm’s departure.Next month President Obama begins to travel again overseas, and in December he begins the critical process of reviewing his new Afghan strategy.

Jones was one of the architects of the last extensive review a year ago, leading to the deployment of an extra 30,000 troops.

It made little sense that he would leave directly after an Afghan review that could determine the legacy of this presidency.

“Frankly, a lot of what the December review is about is the next phase now,” said the senior Obama aide. “So it would be good to have a new structure in place as we make those decisions.”

Stewart Rhodes writes today on the Oath Keepers website that the Southern Poverty Law Center is now officially part of the Department of Homeland Security.

Rhodes sources a DHS document, entitled “Countering Violent Extremism Working Group,” that lists Richard Cohen as a member of the DHS created group. Cohen is president and CEO of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The document encourages local “partners” and the feds to work together to share “threat-related information… and develop case studies that can be used by local authorities as a learning tool for law enforcement personnel” in order to prevent “ideologically-motivated violent crime radicalization, violent extremism, etc.,” in short the patriot movement.

In early April of 2009, a document produced by the Department of Homeland Security, “Rightwing Extremism:

Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” characterized patriot political groups that reject “federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or [reject] government authority entirely” as domestic terrorists.The DHS report followed similar reports issued by the Missouri Information Analysis Center and the Virginia Fusion Center.

The MIAC report specifically describes supporters of presidential candidates Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin, and Bob Barr as “militia” influenced terrorists and instructs the Missouri police to be on the lookout for supporters displaying bumper stickers and other paraphernalia associated with the Constitutional, Campaign for Liberty, and Libertarian parties.

According to the Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, the MIAC documents were heavily influenced by “faulty and politicized research issued by the Southern Poverty Law Center SPLC and Anti Defamation League ADL.”

In 2008, law enforcement officers from across Missouri gathered in the town of Arnold to hear from ADL experts on right-wing extremism.

James Headings was an eyewitness in the courtroom in Madisonville, TN, the seat of Monroe County, TN, for a hearing on Tuesday morning regarding the arrest of Walter Fitzpatrick on April 1, 2010.After asking the Monroe County grand jury to act on a criminal complaint of treason against Barack Hussein Obama, Fitzpatrick attempted to execute a citizen’s arrest of Gary Pettway, the Monroe County grand jury foreman, for his alleged illegal occupation of that position for the past 20 years.

On April 1, Fitzpatrick was charged with “intimidation” and “riot,” among other things.Darren Huff was arrested on April 20 and was “charged in U.S. District Court in Knoxville with traveling across interstate lines armed and ready to incite violence if necessary to take over the city of Madisonville and the Monroe County Courthouse located there.”

Law enforcement claimed that Huff’s display of “suspicious indicators” on his vehicle caught their attention.

This morning, political commentators are paying a great deal of attention to one of the Los Angeles Times’ stories about Barack Obama‘s plans for a Republican takeover of Congress. Unfortunately, they are focusing on the wrong one. Most commentators spent the morning quoting the president’s remarks on a black radio program that a GOP-dominated Congress will result in “hand-to-hand combat.”

The reality is most of the action will take place behind their backs and over their heads. All indications are, if Obama cannot get his legislative agenda enacted by Congress, he will impose it by decree.The evidence comes buried elsewhere in today’s L.A. Times in a piece by Peter Nicholas and Christi Parsons under the hum-drum headline, “Obama Reshapes Administration for a Fresh Strategy.” The story makes clear the “fresh strategy” borders on government by executive fiat. It begins, “As President Obama remakes his senior staff, he is also shaping a new approach for the second half of his term: to advance his agenda through executive actions he can take on his own, rather than pushing plans through an increasingly hostile Congress.”

Not long ago, the question came up regarding the term ‘Foxholes,’ and its origin.After much ado, no origin was found for the word/term, although there were many differing opinions, as always. (the origin of “fighting hole’ also was mentioned)

The following is from the book, “The Marines-A History,” byBGen Edwin Howard Simmons, 1974, Naval Institute Press, 3dEdition, page 100….

“The brigade consolidated on the seventh, digging a line of shallow rifle pits. Someone called them ‘foxholes’ and the name stuck…The 7th US infantry, half-trained, came up on the night of 16 June, and filed into the random line of foxholes…”

(Note:
The above in regard to Belleau Wood, 1918. I have searched for the origin of ‘foxhole,’ having consulted numerous books, military history e-mail discussion groups, etc.–all to no avail–the above is the only mention on this topic that I have seen.)

U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle told a crowd of supporters that the country needs to address a “militant terrorist situation” that has allowed Islamic religious law to take hold in some American cities.

Her comments came at a rally of tea party supporters in the Nevada resort town of Mesquite last week after the candidate was asked about Muslims angling to take over the country, and marked the latest of several controversial remarks by the Nevada Republican.

In a recording of the rally provided to The Associated Press by the Mesquite Local News, a man is heard asking Angle : “I keep hearing about Muslims wanting to take over the United States … on a TV program just last night, I saw that they are taking over a city in Michigan and the residents of the city, they want them out. Steve Pearce, a candidate for Congress in New Mexico, says he wouldn’t mind being “in the fight” over the issue of Barack Obama’s eligibility to be president.

The candidate made the comment in response to a question from a constituent at a public campaign stop, and it is being publicized by Heath Haussamen at the NMPolitics website.

Here is a valid issue that needs to be addressed and it takes a tea party favorite to do it.Sharron Angle, who is in a tight senate race against Harry Reid spoke at a tea party rally last week and addressed concerns that thus far, Washington has not only refused to do, but have actually contributed to and made worse. One of the ralliers asked her about Muslims taking over the United States. He mentioned Dearborn Michigan, where an exploding Muslim population is phasing out the Constitution and implementing sharia law.

Summary:

A sign of our ovine nature is the torpor with which we watch alarming events, such as the inevitable consequences of a long war. Our forefathers warned us, but we didn’t listen. Now come the consequences.Slowly over the past five years evidence has accumulated that our military leaders have grown so powerful that they can — and increasing do — challenge the nation’s civilian leaders for control of foreign policy rather than jointly set it, as they have since WWII. Some experts warn about this.

Some experts whine. All to no avail. Long wars and big military forces shift political power from civilians to the military. It’s slow but inexorable, the price paid for the choices we made. Hoping to avoid paying that price is just another form of dreaming. The West experienced such shifts during WWI and WWII. Fortunately these wars were brief — and started from relatively low levels of military strength other than Germany.

So our State institutions were singed but not burned. But it’s been 9 years since 9-11, and we started from a very high level of military political power. COIN theory will not help us. The Tea Party will support the generals.

The price paid by the Republic will probably be high. Perhaps very high.
