Why I quit… Desert Storm vet explains decision to leave Air Force after 22 years

I never expected to write this letter, but my Mom e-mailed me to get information about my career for a writeup on Veterans Day, and as this is the first such holiday in 22 years when I will not be on active duty, I felt compelled to let you know why I decided to quit.
Quit is a strong word, I know. Everyone I’ve talked to has repeated that I’ve had a marvelous career and that I’ve retired with honor. Maybe that’s true on paper; I guess that it’s reflected by the record. But that’s not how I feel. I feel like I’ve quit. And because I’m not a quitter, I feel I have to explain why — not that anyone is asking, but because perhaps they don’t know to ask.

The Death of Net Neutrality?
Pretty much everyone who pledged to support it lost last Tuesday. Having the government exert more control over the Internet doesn’t seem to be popular with voters.TPMDC reported: The FCC‘s push for Net Neutrality legislation suffered another setback on Tuesday, after 95 of the candidates who pledged their support for it lost their elections.

“Gunny G: It’s a universal joke that PC has played on us; and now we’re too embarrassed to admit this too…”
Most of us remember well Hans Christian Anderson’s delightful tale of the emperor who searched far and wide for the very finest clothes, suits of golden fabric and silver threads, clothes so perfect, so exquisite that they can be seen and appreciated only by those fit for the positions they hold. Only those operating above their skills and the hopelessly stupid fail to see the stunning colors, the shimmering waves of color, the lustrous styling.
Just as in Lake Woebegone, where all the children are above average, so to are the Emperor’s courtiers, his staff, the academics and elite of the day truly extraordinary. Each of them sees the beauty of the cloth, the perfection of the fit, the beauty of the artistry adorning their emperor. The appreciation spreads, almost virally, driven by the repetition and strength of the adoring comments. It becomes a universal enthusiasm of early 19th century Copenhagen society.
The emperor, being an incredibly intelligent man and certain of his own abilities as the leader of his people, is wildly enthusiastic about the weavers’ magic and awestruck by the look created by the fabric hanging on his magnificent body. Fevered with pride, he creates an opportunity to parade his sartorial and intellectual brilliance for the appreciation of all his citizens.
President Obama, 2010 In Anderson’s tale, a young boy breaks the spell of the crowd massed for the emperor’s parade, “But he has nothing on at all! The emperor has no clothes.” Soon, the cry is taken up by all the others who, reassured that their neighbors, not all of whom could be incompetent or hopelessly stupid, obviously saw what they themselves could finally admit. Their own eyes weren’t lying; the emperor was completely nude. The emperor, caught between embarrassments, recognized that he was in fact, stark naked for all to see. To save face before his subjects, he chose to carry on without hesitation, acting as though nothing at all was wrong.
President Obama stands before the American people today, wearing nothing more than a teleprompter script.
The question is, does he recognize his own nakedness? Is he attempting to carry on to save face? Or is he completely mesmerized by his own golden words and silver phrases, sadly unable to see that he stands before us uncovered by anything of substance even as the crowd begins to recognize that he has no clothes?
Our President has nothing on at all.

Top 10 Ways to School Your Leftist Friends on Facebook
Top 10 Ways to School Your Leftist Friends on Facebook

You’re all bloggers, you know. If you’re on Facebook, you have an opportunity to express your opinion with an audience of FB friends. More of us should be taking advantage of this opportunity.
Because unless you zealously guard the ideological purity of your Facebook friendlist, limiting it only to other people who also only limit to conservatives, you are bound to log on one day and find some spectacularly annoying and/or downright asinine comment posted to which you must respond. And I mean you MUST respond. (See #10, below.)
Now this can be bruising, because text-based arguments get nastier a whole lot quicker, in my experience, than face-to-face interactions. Most people are a whole lot more polite in person than when protected by the relative anonymity of their computer screen, and this goes double for Leftists. What’s more, it is often the friends of your friends to whom you will find yourself responding, and they may well be people you don’t know and will never meet, which can shove the nasty meter into overdrive. But armed with these tips, you can have a rewarding exchange, pound Leftism, and maintain your dignity:
10. Let no Leftist idiocy go unchallenged.
This is the basic rule.
White House: Obama conducting reign of terror | Opinion Maker
White House: Obama Conducting Reign of TerrorPosted on 06. Nov, 2010 by Raja Mujtaba in US[Translate]Suspected White House leakers are on the runBy Wayne MadsenPresident Obama was urged by the few White House insiders from whom he still takes advice to leave the country on his ten-day Asian trip, his longest trip abroad since becoming president, in order to not inflict any more damage to the Democratic Party in the wake of one of the worst electoral defeats for the party of an incumbent president in recent history.
According to sources close to the White House, who put themselves in great danger by even talking to members of the media, the plans to have Obama leave for a visit to India, Pakistan, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan are an attempt to get Obama out of the country while top Democrats can sort through the political disaster created for the party by Obama’s increasingly detached-from-reality presidency.
Virtual political guerrilla warfare has broken out between Obama’s inner circle on one hand and senior Democratic officials, including outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Party strategist James Carville, former Demcratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean, and, behind-the-scenes, Vice President Joe Biden and…
An Open Letter To The US Attorney General
Eric HolderU.S. Attorney GeneralThe United States of America General, As a citizen of this country I’m writing to you to correct some gross violations within the department that you supposedly oversea.
I’m doing this openly in order to share my observations with the public that has grown weary of the policies of this administration, and the previous one, regarding the massive security arrangements of the US that have become intolerable to live with.
Your Department today oversees the world largest security and torture apparatus since the Inquisition: Yet in fact the US Department of Justice long ago exceeded everything that was done during the active life of the Inquisition 1478-1968 to an unimaginable degree. Currently the United States has over 500 secret prisons scattered all over the planet-these are places where you send hundreds of thousands of people to be routinely tortured, sometimes maimed and often killed-and all of it was designed to be kept ultra-secret, from the public that is paying for all of it.
This has set the tone for the US Department of Justice inside the USA. The most pressing concern is with the personnel that administer your prisons both here and abroad: In particular there is a lack of…
Noam Chomsky: No Evidence that Al-Qaeda Carried Out the 9/11 Attacks
Leading liberal intellectual Noam Chomsky just told Press TV: “The explicit and declared motive of the [Afghanistan] war was to compel the Taliban to turn over to the United States, the people who they accused of having been involved in World Trade Center and Pentagon terrorist acts.
The Taliban…they requested evidence…and the Bush administration refused to provide any,” the 81-year-old senior academic made the remarks on Press TV’s program a Simple Question. “We later discovered one of the reasons why they did not bring evidence: they did not have any.” The political analyst also said that nonexistence of such evidence was confirmed by FBI eight months later. “The head of FBI, after the most intense international investigation in history, informed the press that the FBI believed that the plot may have been hatched in Afghanistan, but was probably implemented in the United Arab Emirates and Germany.” Chomsky added that three weeks into the war, “a British officer announced that the US and Britain would continue bombing, until the people of Afghanistan overthrew the Taliban…
That was later turned into the official justification for the war.” “All of this was totally illegal. It was more, criminal,” Chomsky said.As Wired wrote on September 27, 2001:
Airports cash in on terror checks: Charge to jump queues ‘they keep long’
Airports are cashing in on the queues at their security gates by charging passengers to use fast-track priority lanes. At least eight have introduced the system and are charging travellers up to £5 to beat the queues.A whistleblower security guard at Luton Airport, which adopted the system last year, claimed there is a deliberate policy to let the queues grow to encourage people to pay for the express lane.
The claim was made as travellers were warned to expect more stringent checks in the wake of the cargo plane terror plot emanating from Yemen. With the checks involving the removal of shoes and belts, body scans and patdown searches, the process is so time-consuming that passengers are arriving at airports up to three hours before departure to make sure they catch their flights.
Luton introduced a fee of £3 in March last year, allowing travellers to skip the queue by using a ‘priority lane’ to reach the security checkpoint.

Banks spying on your bills, rent payments, paychecks: report
The age of the plain old credit score is gone, says a report at the Wall Street Journal, and it’s been replaced by ever more intrusive efforts by banks and credit agencies to gauge exactly what you’re worth, and what you can pay.To that end, financial firms are now tracking their customers’ bank deposits, rent payments or home values, and even utility bills to figure out who may soon become a financial risk, reports WSJ’s Karen Blumenthal.
So, for example, if your employer pays you through direct deposits and those deposits stop, financial institutions can now have warning that your money situation is likely to tighten, and may deny you credit on that basis. But the efforts don’t end there. A new area of research, income estimation, “took off earlier this year,” WSJ reports, and involves financial firms collecting information about mortgages, personal loans and credit history to determine how much an individual makes and how much credit they should be given. In this new era of deep data-mining, even your utility bills and rent check aren’t out of bounds.

Happy Birthday Marines and Others!!!!!
THE MARINES! SINCE 1775… OR 1798?
THE TRUE BIRTHDAY OF THE CORPS!
July 11, 1798?
November 10, 1775
From MarineLINK
“… When the peace treaty with Britain finally was signed in 1783, only the Continental frigate Alliance was still in commission. A small Marine guard commanded by Lieutenant Thomas Elwood stayed with the frigate until Congress decided to sell the vessel in September. With the sale of the Alliance, the Continental Navy and Marines went out of existence.”
From, The United States Marines A History, by BGen Ed Simmons…
“…As for the Marines, only the slenderest thread of continuity can be claimed by virtue of “marines” serving in the Revenue Cutter Service…There were to be Marine “quotas”…not “detachments” for there was no corps from which they could be detached…
…on 11 July 1798, the true birthday of the Corps,
President John Adams approved…establishing and organizing a Marine Corps.”

Customs and Traditions
Marine Corps Birthday Celebration
“The U.S. Marine Corps begins preparations for its “birthday party” every summer. Activities become more feverish as the fall hues arrive. By early November, every Marine is either rehearsing his role in the “party” or pressing, polishing, and spit-shining in order to appear at his or her best for the Birthday Ball. This has not always been the case, however. In fact, Marines have not always celebrated their founding on November the 10th.
Formal commemoration of the birthday of the Marine Corps began on 10 November 1921. That particular date was chosen because on that day the Second Continental Congress resolved in 1775 to raise two battalions of Continental Marines.
Until 1921 the birthday of the Corps had been celebrated on another date. An unidentified newspaper clipping from 1918 refers to the celebration of the 120th birthday of the Marine Corps on 11 July “as usual with no fuss.” It is doubtful that there was any real celebration at all. Further inspection of documents and publications prior to 1921 shows no evidence of ceremonies, pageants, or parties. The July date was commemorated between 1798 and 1921 as the birthday of the Corps. During the Revolution, Marines had fought on land and sea, but at the close of the Revolution the Marine Corps and the Navy were all but disbanded. On 11 July 1798, President John Adams approved a bill that recreated the Corps, thereby providing the rationale for this day being commemorated as the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.
On 21 October 1921, Major Edwin McClellan, Officer-in-Charge, Historical Section, Headquarters Marine Corps, sent a memorandum to Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune, suggesting that the original birthday on 10 November 1775 be declared a Marine Corps holiday to be celebrated throughout the Corps. McClellan further suggested that a dinner be held in Washington to commemorate the event. Guests would include prominent men from the Marine Corps, Army, and Navy, and descendants of the Revolution.
Accordingly, on 1 November 1921, General Lejeune issued Marine Corps Order No. 47, Series 1921. The order summarized the history, mission, and tradition of the Corps, and directed that it be read to every command on 10 November each subsequent year in honor of the birthday of the Marine Corps. This order has been duly carried out.
Some commands expanded the celebration during the next few years. In 1923 at Fort Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the celebration of the Marine Corps’ 148th birthday took the form of a dance in the barracks that evening. Marines at the Navy Yard, Norfolk, Virginia, staged a sham battle on the parade ground in commemoration of the birthday. The battle lasted about twenty minutes, and was witnessed by Portsmouth and Norfolk citizens. At Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the birthday was celebrated on the 12th, since a special liberty to Santiago had been arranged on the 10th. The morning activities included field and water sports, and a shooting match. In the afternoon the Marines won a baseball game, 9-8, over a Cuban team. In the evening, members of the command put on a variety show followed by four boxing bouts.
The first so-called “Birthday Ball,” such as suggested by Major McClellan, was probably held in 1925 in Philadelphia. No records have been located of one prior to 1925. Guests included the Secretaries of War and Navy, Major General Commandant Lejeune, famous statesmen, soldiers, and sailors. The principle event was the unveiling of a tablet on the site of Tun Tavern. The tablet was a gift from the Thomas Roberts Reath Post, American Legion, whose membership was composed exclusively of Marines. The celebration was held in conjunction with the annual convention of the Marine Corps League. A parade included Marines, Regular Army, and Navy detachments, National Guard, and other military organizations. The evening banquet was held at the Benjamin Franklin Hotel and a ball followed at the Bellevue-Stratford.
It is not possible to determine precisely when the first cake ceremony was held, but the first on record was held at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., in 1937. Major General Commandant Thomas Holcomb presided at an open house for Marine Corps officers. Ceremonies included the cutting of a huge cake designed after the famous Tun Tavern in Philadelphia.
From 1937, observances of the Marine Corps Birthday appeared to develop spontaneously throughout the Corps as if they had a life of their own. The celebrations were publicized through every media. Newsreels, motion pictures, and displays were prepared to summarize the history of the Corps. In 1943, standard blank Marine Corps scrap books were forwarded to all districts to be filled with 168th anniversary clippings, scripts, pictures, programs, and other memorabilia, and returned to Headquarters. Unfortunately none of these scrapbooks remain in official files.
In 1951, a formal Birthday Ball Pageant was held at Headquarters Marine Corps. Similar to the pageant today, the script described the Marines’ period uniforms and the cake ceremony. Although this is the first substantive record of a pageant, Leatherneck of 10 November 1925 pictures Marines at a pageant in Salt Lake City, Utah, which had taken place “several years ago.”
On 28 October 1952, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Lemuel C. Shepherd, Jr., directed that the celebration of the Marine Corps Birthday be formalized throughout the Corps, and provided an outline for the cake ceremony, as well as other formal observances. This outline was included in the Marine Corps Drill Manual, approved 26 January 1956.
Traditionally, the first piece of Birthday cake is presented to the oldest Marine present and the second piece to the youngest Marine present. When and where this tradition began remains unknown. Some records indicate this practice, and others vary it depending on the dignitaries present at the ball. First pieces of cake have been presented to newlyweds, the Secretary of the Navy, governors, and others, but generally speaking, the first pieces of cake go to the oldest and youngest Marines at the ball.
At present, celebrations of the Marine Corps Birthday on 10 November differ at posts and stations throughout the Corps. All commemorations include the reading of Marine Corps Order No. 47, and the Commandant’s message to those assembled. Most commands sponsor a Birthday Ball of some sort, complete with pageant and cake ceremony as prescribed in the Marine Corps Manual.
Like the Corps itself, the Birthday Ball developed from simple origins to become the polished, professional function that all Marines commemorate on 10 November around the world.“

Why Pelosi is running for House minority leader
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calmly assessing the political cyclone that routed her Democratic majority and will, at least temporarily, force her to vacate one of the best offices in the city, with its inspirational view of the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
She keeps coming back to the courage of her colleagues who cast hard votes that helped make the past two years one of Congress’s most productive periods in recent times – and made her one of the most effective speakers in history. Her message is unmistakable: Democrats have nothing to apologize for, nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to regret.”One of the members called me and said, ‘I’m in a tough race. It’s even. I don’t know how it’s going to turn out,’ ” she recalls. ” ‘But I know one thing: that I wouldn’t do anything differently. I wouldn’t change my vote on health-care reform no matter how they tried to describe it. It was important for me to vote to give the opportunity that that bill provides.’ “
“These members know what they believe in,” she notes, channeling her own feelings through those of her colleagues. “They will have plenty of options in life. I hope one of them is to consider coming back to Congress.”I spoke with Pelosi less than 24 hours before she announced she wanted to stay on as Democratic leader, and everything she said made clear that she’s not ready to allow millions of dollars in Republican attack ads to drive her from public life.
She wants another crack at winning electoral vindication for a record she believes stands well on the merits.

Time Magazine caught in the act of dissing John Boehner.
Did anyone get a load of Time’s cover for this week? They have an ugly closeup shot of John Boehner where you can see the pores on his face. It looks similar to that infamous Newsweek cover of Sarah Palin.
To top it off, all the letters to the editor they printed were ones that expressed displeasure with Tuesday’s election results.Seriously, do these guys even have a clue why their circulation is down to 92,000 copies a week?
Probably not.
Harry Reid should not be above the law
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid looked like toast a few days before the Nov. 2 election, trailing his Republican challenger Sharron Angle by three or more points in the campaign’s concluding polls, according to RealClearPolitics. But when ballots were counted, Reid had somehow converted that deficit to a nearly six-point margin of victory.
Most observers attributed the phenomenal success of Reid’s last-ditch comeback to the Nevada Democratic Party‘s highly polished get-out-the-vote “ground game.” But an internal e-mail from a Reid campaign operative to a Harrah’s executive strongly suggests the Reid ground game depended at least in part on breaking the law.As former Federal Election Commissioner Hans A. von Spakovsky explained Friday in The Examiner, federal law makes it illegal for officials with a Senate campaign to coordinate with corporate or union officials: “Both the Reid campaign and Harrah’s may have violated federal campaign finance law that prohibits in-kind corporate and union contributions to, and coordination with, political campaigns.
Corporations and unions may spend money to run ads in support of or opposing a candidate, but they are not allowed to make direct or in-kind contributions to federal candidates.
Federal criminal law also prohibits intimidation and coercion of a person exercising his or her right to vote or not to vote.”
George W. Bush: “Find out who was responsible and Kick their Ass”
The terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2001, gave his administration a clear goal and him the resolve to find out who was responsible and “kick their ass,” former President George W. Bush writes in his new book.In “Decision Points,” Bush describes his reaction when his then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice informed him of the crash of a third airplane into the Pentagon.
“I sat back in my seat and absorbed her words. My thoughts clarified: The first plane could have been an accident. The second was definitely an attack. The third was a declaration of war,” the former president writes in his 481-page book, which goes on sale Tuesday.
“My blood was boiling. We were going to find out who did this, and kick their ass,” Bush writes.”In a single morning, the purpose of my presidency had grown clear: to protect our people and defend our freedom that had come under attack.”

Election day mistakes aren’t random
As of late, I have been impressed with the number of electoral irregularities that have been reported during the past several election cycles. By electoral irregularities, I mean all these lost-and-found ballot boxes and bags, miscalibrated voting machines, judicial interventions, etc.
Please understand, I am no mathematician or statistician, but I would think the very nature of any series of errors leading to those irregularities would be random, i.e. those errors would favor democrats and republicans equally.
In fact, a decent dictionary definition of the word random could be a process of selection in which each item of a set has an equal probability of being chosen. So, my argument would be it is mathematically impossible, over the long run, for either democrats or republicans to have the majority of electoral irregularities cause benefit to their candidate. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case…

Marines’ leader: Keep policy on gays in military
SAN DIEGO AP — The new commandant of the U.S. Marines Corps said Saturday that now is the wrong time to overturn the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy prohibiting gays from openly serving in the military, as U.S. troops remain in the thick of war in Afghanistan.
“There’s risk involved; I’m trying to determine how to measure that risk,” Gen. James Amos said. “This is not a social thing. This is combat effectiveness. That’s what the country pays its Marines to do.”

Harry Reid’s victory may have been due to violation of federal campaign laws
Harry Reid’s victory over Sharron Angle this past Tuesday may have had a great deal to do with the senator’s campaign breaking not only federal campaign law, but, just to make things worse, criminal law also.
According to the Justice Department itself, as recently as this past Friday, it is currently looking over a complaint that Angle’s lawyer has filed, demanding that Reid be investigated for what appears to be coordination between his campaign and a corporation, Harrah’s casino in Las Vegas.
The complaint is based on damning e-mails that were exchanged between executives at Harrah’s casino and a staffer working for the Reid campaign. If the allegations are proven true, it may confirm what some people suspected after Reid’s surprise, come-from-behind win he was consistently down in the polls before last Tuesday’s voting. Namely, that Reid did a lot more than just get all his supporters to the polls in a magical, last-effort push.
