Dana Milbank: Bill O’Reilly wants my head

 

On Thursday night, O’Reilly asked, as part of a show that would be seen by 5.5 million people: “Does sharia law say we can behead Dana Milbank?” He then added, “That was a joke.

“The next night, O’Reilly read a complaint from one of his viewers, Heidi Haverlock of Cleveland, who said: “I thought the joke about whether sharia law would allow the beheading of the Washington Post guy was completely inappropriate.

“O’Reilly replied: “Well, let me break this to you gently, Heidi. If Dana Milbank did in Iran what he does in Washington, he’d be hummus.”O’Reilly’s on-air fantasizing about violent ends for me was precipitated by a column I wrote describing Fox News’s election-night coverage as a victory party for the Republicans.

This didn’t strike me as a terribly controversial point, but it evidently offended O’Reilly. “He said there were no Democrats except for Schoen on,” O’Reilly complained. “It was an outright lie.”That would have been an outright lie, except that I said no such thing. I wrote:

“To be fair and balanced, Fox brought in a nominal Democrat, pollster Doug Schoen. ‘This is a complete repudiation of the Democratic Party,’ he proclaimed.”Though I didn’t claim Schoen was the sole Democrat, in hindsight I should have quoted other putative liberals who appeared on Fox that night – and sounded much like Schoen. There was Bob Beckel, proclaiming: “I feel like the blind guy whose guide dog died” and “I give all the credit to Republicans on this.”

Or Juan Williams on President Obama: “I just don’t think he gets it.”O’Reilly has every right to quarrel with my opinion or question my accuracy. But why resort to intimidation and violent imagery?Let’s drop the thuggish tactics – before more people get hurt.

Watchdog wants probe of Google’s ‘unusually close’ ties to Obama

 

The National Legal and Policy Center NLPC, a group that advocates for a smaller and more ethical government, wrote to leaders of the House Oversight Committee this month urging them to investigate a major privacy breach by Google.

It wants to know if the company’s ties to the administration helped it dodge penalties after the incident.

The group also urges a look at Google’s ties to the administration more generally, pointing to what it calls “a growing body of evidence” that shows the administration’s “unusually close relationship with Google has resulted in favoritism towards the company on federal policy issues.”

After Google admitted last month that it collected and stored private user information, including passwords and entire e-mails, from Wi-Fi networks, the Federal Trade Commission FTC closed an inquiry into the issue, citing promises from the company that it would improve its privacy practices.

But NLPC alleges that Google’s political clout might be the real reason the FTC dropped the probe.

Of missiles & money – don’t ask, won’t tell

A person of normal sensibilities would have to be intellectually numb, overly medicated or otherwise too preoccupied with keeping food on the table and the proverbial wolves from their door not to realize that there is something very, very wrong going on today. B

y now, most Americans have heard about the sighting of what appears to be a missile, and a big one at that, apparently being launched from a location about 35 miles off the coast of Los Angeles near sunset last evening. Video of the incident was taken from a KCBS news helicopter flying over the mainland at the time.

The manner in which this story unfolded should be a story by itself. The corporate media, quick to comment on the culturally indigenous dancing rituals of U.S. royalty, were quite slow on the uptake on an issue that has serious national security implications in light of our government’s response to this incident.Today, Americans were treated with a number of explanations from our government officials, military pundits, and even media personalities about the incident. Those explanations range from the “embarrassing if true” to the “downright insulting,” with numerous variations in between.

Ranging from having no information on the incident, to assurances that an investigation is underway, and my personal favorite, it is the contrail from an airplane that caused an optical illusion due to a problem of visual perspective, we are either in a boatload of trouble with regard to our national defense, or the hubris of the power elite is at an all time high.

As news of the event began to appear in the media, I contacted several well placed and trusted intelligence and military sources in an effort to determine the truth about the incident.

These sources, as I was reminded by one during our conversation, are risking their careers to talk to me.

And they talk to me not because of my charm or influence, both of which I admittedly lack, but because they care about the current status and future of our great country. And there is no better reason. I was less than reassured from what I learned today.

A “Secret” Subway Stop

Hidden deep under New York City, a “secret” subway stop is drawing visitors. The Big Apple‘s City Hall station, a beautiful structure that opened in 1904, but has been out of use for decades, can be seen by riders … if they know how to make the journey.

When subway cars moved their doors to the center, it “created an dangerous gap between the exit point on the train and the platform.” There were plans to make the stop into a transit museum, but security concerns, especially following the events of 9/11/01, put the plan in limbo.

Now, though, folks who take a little extra time amid New York’s hustle and bustle can spy the station with their own eyes.

Pilots’ unions oppose full-body scans, searches

If you have gone through airport security at O’Hare, Midway or any other major airport recently, then you know that there is new screening equipment in place and procedures to search travelers.

Thousands of pilots who fly jetliners are angry about those changes.There are two issues; two major pilots’ unions say the full-body scanners are untested and potentially unsafe because of the radiation they expose travelers to.

And the second issue is the new procedure for hand searches by Transportation Security Administration officers at airport checkpoints. Both have produced scathing memos about the TSA from the pilots’ unions.

Flight attendants union upset over new pat-down procedures

A flight attendants union with 2,000 members is upset over what it calls “invasive pat-downs” recently implemented by the TSA.”We’re getting calls daily about peoples’ experiences, our members are concerned,” said Deborah Volpe, Vice President of the Association of Flight Attendants Local 66.

Volpe confirmed that the union is offering advice to its flight attendants, who mostly work for Tempe-based USAirways, involving the security moves.According to a union email obtained by ABC15, it tells flight attendants if they opt out of using the body scanner through security and are required to undergo a pat-down to ask the pat-down be conducted in a private area with a witness.

“We don’t want them in uniform going through this enhanced screening where their private areas are being touched in public,” said Volpe.

“They actually make contact with the genital area.”Some passengers have told ABC15 they’ve already encountered flight delays due to crew members having problems with TSA employees.”It delay was over three hours when they finally found a crew member to take her place,” said Les Johnson who says his Charlotte bound flight was delayed.

“She flight attendant felt that she was groped and supposedly filed a claim.”"They’ve already contacted the ACLU,” said Volpe when referring to some members of the union. “We don’t know if somebody may have had an experience with a sexual assault and its pat-down going to drudge up some bad memories.”Volpe made it clear the union is not against security.”Security is the most important aspect, our offices were used as murder weapons,” said Volpe.

“Keep in mind we undergo extensive background checks and we fly quite often.”

Repeal the Seventeenth Amendment

Joe Miller, Alaska’s Republican nominee for the United States Senate, recently expressed support for an idea that is rapidly gaining steam in Tea Party circles: the repeal of the Seventeenth Amendment. Miller subsequently backtracked from his statement, but he shouldn’t have: Repealing the Seventeenth Amendment would go a long way toward restoring federalism and frustrating special-interest influence over Washington.

Ratified in 1913, the Seventeenth Amendment replaced the election of U.S. senators by state legislators with the current system of direct election by the people. By securing the Seventeenth Amendment’s ratification, progressives dealt a blow to the Framers’ vision of the Constitution from which we have yet to recover.The Constitution did not create a direct democracy; it established a constitutional republic. Its goal was to preserve liberty, not to maximize popular sovereignty.

To this end, the Framers provided that the power of various political actors would derive from different sources. While House members were to be elected directly by the people, the president would be elected by the Electoral College. The people would have no direct influence on the selection of judges, who would be nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate to serve for life or “during good behavior.”

And senators would be elected by state legislatures.Empowering state legislatures to elect senators was considered both good politics and good constitutional design. At the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, the proposal was ratified with minimal discussion and recognized as the approach “most congenial” to public opinion.

IG report shows Obama WH rewrote Gulf spill report to support moratorium

When the Obama White House announced its moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico after the BP-Deepwater Horizon catastrophe in April, the administration insisted that they followed the recommendations of its panel of experts.

This story blew up when the panel of experts insisted that they had not recommended any kind of blanket moratorium, and that one simply wasn’t necessary to address the deficiencies at MMS that contributed to the catastrophic fire and spill.

A new report from the Inspector General probing the White House response accuses the administration of rewriting key sections of the report in order to falsely give the impression that the panel had made that recommendation: The White House rewrote crucial sections of an Interior Department report to suggest an independent group of scientists and engineers supported a six-month ban on offshore oil drilling, the Interior inspector general says in a new report. In the wee hours of the morning of May 27, a staff member to White House energy adviser Carol Browner sent two edited versions of the department report’s executive summary back to Interior.

The language had been changed to insinuate the seven-member panel of outside experts – who reviewed a draft of various safety recommendations – endorsed the moratorium, according to the IG report obtained by POLITICO.

“The White House edit of the original DOI draft executive summary led to the implication that the moratorium recommendation had been peer-reviewed by the experts,” the IG report states, without judgment on whether the change was an intentional attempt to mislead the public…

On November 10, 1775 the fledgling Continental Congress passed a resolution that two Battalions of Marines be raised and maintained for purposes for fighting our British oppressors as a seagoing army. Since the times of Col. Samuel Nicholas the first Commandant of the Corps, Marines have always fought above and beyond expectation on the high seas, on land and more recently in the air.

Because we Americans are a peace loving people, the Marine Corps and the United States Navy were actually allowed to go out of existences at the close of the Revolutionary War.

This state of unpreparedness existed until July 11, 1798 when the Corps was reestablished in preparation for a potential war with France. Soon the Marines were sailing off the foreign shores.The Corps’s first large scale assignment came at the dawn of the 19th century when President Thomas Jefferson sent them to smash the “Barbary pirates” who were kidnapping and terrorizing American merchant sailors.These “pirates” were actually Islamist thugs who had to be given a clear message about America’s willingness to fight back and the Marines were just the fighting force to send that message.

These Patriots have no idea how much power they have acquired over the past year in their attachment w/America and hatred from the Libs.

They have withstood every arrow and limp wristed sling thrown their way and came out on the other side more powerful and focused than when they first began.

Any political movement that can claim it directly changed the balance of a chamber and the direction of a Country can no longer be ignored.

They have become a force like a hurricane moving across the Gulf picking up strength as it nears land the Pundiots try to predict if its next landfall will be a Tropical Depression or another Class 5 leveling the political landscape.

Never before has a movement hit w/such a force as this, like Katrina swamping the levies of the unions and flooding the DNC like Norleans. The Sinate may have been kept barely, but the house is where everything gets done and we have just the people to do it.

We also still have an army of patriots still ready to hold these congressmen’s feet to the heat.

If they don’t do what the people who got them elected want then there will be protests held in their offices just like were held in the Dems’. The difference is what the people who elected them want is less spending rather than more as well as a reduction of gubmint waste and control.The best part of the congress is the number of members it has to cover more territory and get things done.

There can finally be an audit and investigation of Fannie Mae to find out what happened and what was the chain of events to cause that entity to fall. There needs to be a complete investigation into how to either reform this corrupt institution or the closing of it.

 

There will be pain if it is closed and there have been agreements made w/foreign Gummits like the Chinese and Japanese but there needs to be market forces brought to bear for a lot of these wasteful bureaucracies and closing may be the only way to create the void to have private banking taking on some of its risk.

Appearing on the The Daily Show Monday to promote his new book, Texas Governor Rick Perry, a potential contender for the Republican nomination in 2012, denied being a secessionist and attacked the progressive movement of the 1920’s.

Although the governor has not explicitly supported the secession of Texas, his strong stance on the state sovereignty and comments he has made have caused some to wonder.

“Would you like to see, at some level, Texas as its own country?” asked Jon Stewart, the host of the show.

“A little bit? A little bit? United Republic of Texas?”

“No,” answered Perry.

For much of the interview, Perry attacked the size and power of the federal government.“If you want to know when Washington really got off the track — the 16th amendment, giving them the opportunity to take your money with a personal income tax,” said Perry.

Expert Claims “Missile” Was Optical Illusion

It lead to speculation among aerospace experts on the internet that the trail could have been the result of an optical illusion.[...]John Pike, a defence and aerospace expert who runs website GlobalSecurity.org, was convinced the phenomenon was a simple trick of the eye.

He said: ‘This thing is so obviously an airplane contrail… There’s a reason that they’re called rockets.’He said the object was moving too slow to be a missile, and footage showed light of varying intensity coming from the object, which suggested reflected light from the sun rather than light generated from an engine.

It looked like a missile launch, he said, because of an optical illusion that made the contrail appear as though it started on the ground and zoomed straight up.

In reality, he said, the contrail began on the horizon and ran parallel to the ground.‘It was an unusually clear day, so what looked like a missile launch 35 miles off the coast of Los Angeles was actually the contrail of a jet that stretched 300 miles into the distance.’

Barack Obama: We Must Embrace Globalism And The Emerging One World Economy

Although it received very little coverage in the mainstream media, Barack Obama made some comments about globalism during his speech in Mumbai, India that were very eye-opening.

As he was discussing the new realities of world trade in 2010, Obama warned against “those who see globalization as a threat” and he spoke of the “integrated world” in which we all now live.

But is merging the entire globe into a one world economy, a one world financial system and a one world labor market really the best thing for the American people?For the past two decades, all U.S. presidents have been heralding the benefits of merging the American economy with the rest of the globe.

George Bush Sr., Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama have all steadfastly supported the emerging one world economy. These presidents have each used different terms to describe this process such as “globalism”, “globalization”, “an integrated world”, “the global economy” and even “a New World Order”, but they have all meant the same thing.

All of these presidents have sought to integrate the United States even more deeply into the developing one world economic system.Barack Obama showed very clearly how he feels about globalism when he made the following statement during his speech in Mumbai….

“This will keep America on its toes.

America is going to have to compete. There is going to be a tug-of-war within the US between those who see globalization as a threat and those who accept we live in a open integrated world, which has challenges and opportunities.”This is something that Barack Obama has obviously thought quite a bit about.

In fact, during the same speech he warned that those supporting globalization will need to “guard against” those who would seek to put up barriers to the full integration of the economies of the world….

“If the American people feel that trade is just a one-way street where everybody is selling to the enormous US market but we can never sell what we make anywhere else, then the people of the US will start thinking that this is a bad deal for us and it could end up leading to a more protectionist instinct in both parties, not just among Democrats but also Republicans. So, that we have to guard against.”

Three Sheets to the Wind: Nautical Slang in Common Usage

The spoken word is an extraordinary thing. Each language and its intricacies are in a constant state of flux, with words and phrases falling in and out of common usage.

As such, we often adopt words and phrases we have heard used without ever considering their original meaning. A perfect example of this is the many colorful phrases in the English language which derive their origins from nautical terminology.

Chances are you can pick out quite a few phrases from this list that you use at least every once in a while, yet you probably never knew where the term or phrase originated.Editor’s Note: Critics will point out that there seems to be a penchant in etymological spheres to attribute a nautical origin to just about anything. This idea is so prevalent, in fact, that etymologists even conjured up the tongue-in-cheek and completely fictional organization C.A.N.O.E., aka the Committee to Attribute a Nautical Origin to Everything.

With this in mind, we’ve tried to avoid some of the phrases with questionable nautical origin.Let’s take a look at some prime examples of nautical lingo left over from the age of sail that are still in use today.“To turn a blind eye to” – To refuse to see or recognize somethingCredited to the famous British Admiral Horatio Nelson whose naval exploits during the Napoleonic Wars 1803–1815 are the stuff of seafaring legend. Nelson was injured early in his naval career, leaving him completely blind in one eye.

During the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801, the fiery Nelson was serving under a much more reserved and cautious Admiral Sir Hyde Parker. With the tide of battle seeming to turn against them, Parker raised the signal flag, ordering retreat at the discretion of the captains. When Nelson was notified by his flag captain of the signal, he replied, “You know, Foley, I have only one eye – I have a right to be blind sometimes.”

Calmly raising his telescope to his blind eye and aiming it in the direction of the signal to withdraw, he continued, “I really do not see the signal.” Thus, having turned a blind eye to the signal of retreat, he continued to fight, and within an hour had secured victory.

They know that the Congressional Black Caucus will continue to fight for these handouts, which black Democrats now consider “entitlements.” Payback for slavery.

These days anything black Democrats want is considered an entitlement. Gucci purses and 60-inch flat-screen TVs in their taxpayer-funded, government-gifted homes — all are entitlements.For black Democrats, the government is supposed to provide food, shelter, clothing, cars tricked out, of course, cable TV and PlayStations the in-home babysitters, childcare, health care, and, of course, a check.What the government does not have to provide to black Democrats are safe schools, crime-free neighborhoods, adequate education, or jobs.

Mysterious missile launch most likely US Air flight 808

Network news and the internet were abuzz with the report and video by Los Angeles CBS affiliate KCBS of a reported missile launch late Monday afternoon — around 5 PM. Both the Air Force and the Navy denied they had any missiles launches at the time.

According to CBS News the Defense Department remains baffled.”Nobody within the Department of Defense that we’ve reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from,” Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan said. “So far, we’ve come up empty with any explanation.”

And they go on:”The FAA told CBS News that they ran radar replays of a large area west of Los Angeles based on media reports of the location of a possible missile launch, but they did not reveal any fast moving unidentified targets in that area.

The FAA also did not receive any reports of any unusual sightings from pilots in the area.”

“The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, issued a statement jointly with the U.S. Northern Command, or NORTHCOM, saying that the contrail was not the result of a foreign military launching a missile. It provided no further details.”A search for flights that could have left a contrail led me to US Air’s flight 808 from Honolulu to Phoenix.

The flight took off from Honolulu at 10:06 AM HST, passed over Catalina Island at 5:03 PM PST….

“Then, of course, there’s this:His nanny was an openly gay man who, in keeping with Indonesia’s relaxed attitudes toward homosexuality, carried on an affair with a local butcher, longtime residents said.

The nanny later joined a group of transvestites called Fantastic Dolls, who, like the many transvestites who remain fixtures of Jakarta‘s streetscape, entertained people by dancing and playing volleyball.

Finally, the Times relates a story from one of Obama’s boyhood friends that some might say presaged the future.

One time, recalled the elder son, Slamet Januadi, now 52, Mr. Obama asked a group of boys whether they wanted to grow up to be president, a soldier or a businessman.

A president would own nothing while a soldier would possess weapons and a businessmen would have money, the young Obama explained.Mr. Januadi and his younger brother, both of whom later joined the Indonesian military, said they wanted to become soldiers.

Another boy, a future banker, said he would become a businessman.

“Then Barry said he would become president and order the soldier to guard him and the businessman to use his money to build him something,” Mr. Januadi said.

“We told him, ‘You cheated. You didn’t give us those details.’ “”But we all became what we said we would,” he said.

The High Cost of ‘Free’ Trade: Obama “Doesn’t Understand Fundamental Reality,” Expert Says

Kicking off his 10-day tour of Asia, President Obama penned an op-ed in The NY Times where he reiterated a goal of “doubling America’s exports in the next five years” and outlined plans for expanded trade agreements with India already announced, South Korea, Indonesia and Asia generally.

“Our government, together with American businesses and workers, must take steps to promote and sell our goods and services abroad – particularly in Asia,” President Obama writes. “That’s how we’ll create jobs, prosperity and an economy that’s built on a stronger foundation.”Obama’s comments and actions reflect conventional economic thinking that “everyone benefits” from free trade. But nothing could be further from the truth – at least judging by the “free trade” agreements of the past 20 years, says Alan Tonelson of the U.S. Business & Industry Educational Foundation and author of The Race to the Bottom.”[President Obama] doesn’t seem to understand — or want to understand — the fundamental reality that doubling exports…does absolutely nothing to generate growth or employment in the U.S.,” Tonelson says.

Obama & Fed impose 20% tax on all Americans

President Obama defended the Fed’s decision to implement a second Quantitative Easing QE2 amidst disagreement by fellow G20 countries China and Russia.

Both countries stated that they believe the G20 should have been consulted before the United States followed through with plans to print more money and begin purchasing its own debt.

A little over a year ago Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke swore under oath that he would not monetize America’s debt. For those that don’t quite grasp the concept, we are essentially borrowing the money from ourselves by issuing bonds IOU’s and then printing money to purchase the bonds from ourselves. By printing billions of additional dollars the Fed is purposefully causing inflation, which, by Chairman Bernanke’s own admission, is a tax increase. That’s a neat trick, maybe I’ll pay my mortgage with Monopoly money next month.

I could use a Quantitative Easing just in time for Christmas.Many top economists believe this second massive printing of dollars by the Federal Reserve will cause a dramatic decrease in the value of the dollar on the world market. Bill Gross who manages the world’s largest mutual fund asserted that the Fed’s move will ‘devalue the dollar by as much as 20%.”

Another Look At Obama’s Eligibility – Part 3 – A Look Ahead

In parts 1 and 2 of this series I explored a few of more critical the issues around the ongoing controversy regarding the Constitutional Eligibility of Barack Obama photo above to hold his office:Today I would like to take a look at what lays ahead.

Obama has spent millions of American dollars to fight the truth-seekers in Courts of Law – and he has prevailed, because there has not yet been a Judge with the wherewithal to grant a Motion for Discovery of the President’s historical documents that would provide answers to our questions.The JAG presiding over the present case of Lt. Colonel Terry Lakin has ruled that a Court Martial is not the proper venue for examining the Commander In Chief’s credentials and therefore denied Lakin’s Motion for Discovery.

The House of Representatives, which will be dominated by Republicans come January of 2011, can now decide to pursue truth or fumble the ball and allow the controversy to continue. Based upon the numbers of heretofore rather squishy Repubs in Congress, I’m not counting on an investigation and issuance of subpoenas for Obama’s hidden credentials.

But we shall very shortly see how the wind actually blows through the House.

Stopping Judicial Imperialism We should be able to vote out judges who act like politicians

Results of the recent elections showed that growing numbers of Americans are fed up with “public servants” who act as if they are public masters. This went beyond the usual objections to particular policies. It was the fact that policies were crammed down our throats, whether we liked them or not.

In fact, laws were passed so fast that nobody had time to read them.Whether these policies were good, bad, or indifferent, the way they were imposed represented a more fundamental threat to the very principles of a self-governing people established by the Constitution of the United States.

Arrogant politicians who do this are dismantling the Constitution piecemeal — which is to say, they are dismantling America.The voters struck back, as they had to, if we are to keep the freedoms that define this country. The Constitution cannot protect us unless we protect the Constitution by getting rid of those who circumvent it or disregard it.

The same thing applies to judges. The runaway arrogance that politicians get when they have huge majorities in Congress is more or less common among federal judges with lifetime tenure or state judges who are seldom defeated in elections to confirm their appointments to the bench.

It was a surprise to many — and a shock to media liberals — when three judges on Iowa’s supreme court were voted off that court in the same recent elections in which a lot of politicians were also sent packing.These judges had taken it upon themselves to rule that the voters of Iowa did not have the right to block attempts to change the definition of marriage to include homosexual couples. Here again, the particular issue — so-called gay marriage — was not as fundamental as the question of depriving the voting public of their right to decide what kinds of laws they want to live under.

Question: Why does the Air Force seem to harbor more liberals than other military branches?

First of all, no offense meant to the good conservatives in the Air Force.

Second, I thank all members of our military for their service, regardless of their political points of view.Here is what I have observed…and admittedly, I have known only a FEW Air Force veterans.

So perhaps my experience isn’t the best judge.Seems to me, though, that of the friends and acquaintences I’ve had, the folks who have served or are serving in the AIR FORCE are much more prone to be liberals in their politics than others I’ve known who are in the Army, Navy, or Marines.

One particular encounter with an old close friend, who I’ve come back into contact with, seems to have really gone off the deep end…I don’t know, perhaps I’m wrong and just have had “bad luck” in meeting up with the libs.

Is this a fair judgement–are there more liberals in the Air Force? And if so, why?

This became the espionage and counter-intelligence branch of the Central Intelligence Agency. What’s Next for Internet Regulation? Let the Dead Be Buried.

Last week, every single signer of a Net Neutrality Pledge to regulate the Internet lost their election. Then, two days later on November 4, the FCC released their November meeting agenda and Net Neutrality was notably absent.

So, where does the FCC’s and the neo-Marxist left’s pet project go from here?Most agree that the FCC’s Title II Internet regulation scheme is dead.

For almost a year, the Commission has threatened to reclassify broadband Internet under 1930s laws to enact Net Neutrality regulations, and then some. Yet, over 300 Members of Congress – a vast, bipartisan majority from both the House and Senate – have stated clear opposition to the approach. Further, the Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives in January are virtually unanimously opposed to Net Neutrality rules. If the FCC made a move to enact regulations by fiat, Title II would likely wind up in court for the next few years.

Ok, normally I can handle what Glen has to say. But, what he’s been saying the past 2 weeks is scaring the crp out of me.

Has anyone else been watching him? And does anyone have any feedback on what he’s been saying. I honestly don’t know enough about economics to gage if what he’s saying is far fetched of if our world is on the edge of complete collapse.

I do realize we are living in the days before Christ return and I believe what he says will happen at some point.

What’s Up With Nevada? [Rasmussen: some clues as to how Harry Reid bucked the election Wave.]

While public polling generally gave a good projection of what to expect around the country in Election 2010, that was not the case in Nevada.Rasmussen Reports‘ final poll on the race showed Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid trailing by four points and the Real Clear Politics average showed the Democratic incumbent down by 2.7 points.

When the dust settled, however, Reid won by 5.6 percentage points.

After every election, polling firms review the things that went well and those that didn’t to learn and make modifications. In this process, Nevada seems like an ideal place to start. That’s especially true because it’s the second straight election in which the Democrat has substantially outperformed both Rasmussen Reports polling and the average of all public polls in Nevada.–snip–

This higher interest among less committed voters seems borne out by the exit poll data showing that six percent 6% of voters did not vote in the presidential election two years ago. These voters strongly preferred Reid over Angle.

Every time you see some product being sold as “Green,” allegedly safer or beneficial for the environment, you can be sure that it is more expensive than a comparable product that does the same thing without making this claim.Everything you eat, drink, wear or use begins as a “natural” product.

 

It is absurd to think that calling it “Green” improves it in any fashion. Countless inspections before anything reaches the marketplace ensure product safety. To put it another way, a carrot is a carrot is a carrot.

Recently I received a news release from a public relations firm touting clients selling Green products such as “Parsley Plus All-Purpose Cleaner,” along with “stylish organic bed linens, “natural and organic clothing,” a “99.6% natural line” of shampoos, and, “100% Bamboo towels.”In a similar fashion, every time you hear a corporation claiming it is concerned about the environment you can be sure that it is trying to protect itself against lawsuits from environmental groups or Environmental Protection Agency action that will eat into its profits and dividends.

A recent Wall Street Journal article, “Misleading Claims on ‘Green’ Labeling” cited a study asserting that “more than 95% of consumer products examined committed at least one offense of ‘greenwashing’, a term used to describe unproven environmental claims, according to TerraChoice, a North American environmental-marketing company that issued the report.”

From a House Democratic Source:FOX has obtained a letter being penned by defeated House Democrats that implores House Speaker Nancy Pelosi D-CA to step aside.

The letter is now circulating Capitol Hill and has not yet been sent to the Speaker. FOX has obtained draft language of the letter.In the draft of the letter, the members say that they were “victimized by a national wave of resentment toward Democrats, a wave that ensnared you along with us.”

The letter goes on to say “Madam Speaker, fairly or unfairly, Republicans made you the face of the resentment and disagreement in our races. While we commend your years of service to our party and your leadership through many tough times, we respectfully ask that you step aside as the top Democrat in the House.”The letter says that the defeated members “fear that Republicans will further demonize you, and in so doing, they will scare potential candidates out.

The prospect of having to run against their own party leadership, in addition to their Republican opponent is simply too daunting.”The lawmakers also say that “one mark of a strong leader is the ability to discern when it is time to pass the baton” and calls this a “dark hour.”The letter closes asking Pelosi to step aside.

GOP Primary Voters Express Interest in Third-Party Option

Roughly one-quarter to one-third of Republican primary voters say they would be inclined to consider a third-party candidate if any of the current favorites wins the GOP presidential nomination for 2012.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 31% of likely primary voters say they are at least somewhat likely to consider supporting a third-party candidate for president if former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is the GOP nominee.

Following rumors of a “bank holiday” that could limit or prevent altogether cash withdrawals later this week, Twitter and other Internet forums were raging yesterday about numerous ATMs across the country that crashed in the early hours of Sunday morning, preventing customers from performing basic transactions.It’s unknown whether the crashes were partly a result of a surge of people trying to withdraw their money in preparation for any feared bank shutdown, or if mere technical glitches were to blame.

The fact that the problem affected numerous different banks in different parts of the U.S. would seem to indicate the former.The Orange County Register reported that the problems were “part of a national outage” which prevented people from performing simple transactions such as cashing checks and withdrawing money.“Computer issues” were blamed for similar issues in Phoenix Arizona, while in Birmingham Alabama, Wells Fargo customers’ online banking accounts and ATMs displayed incorrect balances.

The banks primarily affected were Wells Fargo, Chase and Bank of America, but according to blogger Phil Brennan, who studied Twitter feeds and other Internet message boards that were alight with the story, numerous other financial institutions were also affected, including US Bank, Compass, USAA, Suntrust, Fairwinds Credit Union, American Express, BB&T on the East Coast and PNC.“Twitter is going crazy with reports of ATMs and online accounts going down as of 01:00 hours EST of the 7th of November 2010,” writes Brennan. “This is happening to many banks all across America. Some are trying to say that it is a computer glitch to do with the change in Daylight Savings Time, but I will call BS on this as we manage to put our clocks back over here in the UK without knocking out ATMs and online accounts nationally.”

World’s Pilots Reject Naked Body Scanners Over Radiation Danger, Privacy Breach

The largest union of airline pilots in the world is urging its members to boycott body imaging machines currently being rolled out in airports all over the globe, citing dangers of excessive exposure to harmful levels of radiation during the screening process.

The president of the Allied Pilots Association, which represents 11,500 pilots, many of whom work for American Airlines, has urged members of the union to revolt against the devices.Captain Dave Bates voiced the union’s concerns in a letter published by The Atlantic late last week.Bates asks that members be aware “that there are ‘backscatter’ AIT devices now being deployed that produce ionizing radiation, which could be harmful to your health.”The move follows the detention and suspension of an American pilot who refused to be scanned.Captain Bates suggests that pilots refrain from being put through the scanners and if necessary opt for a pat down by TSA officials instead.

“We already experience significantly higher radiation exposure than most other occupations, and there is mounting evidence of higher-than-average cancer rates as a consequence.” Bates’ letter states.Earlier in the year, scientists warned that the machines constitute a potential health risk, noting that the radiation given off by the devices has been dangerously underestimated and could lead to an increased risk of skin cancer.

Despite these fears, the blatant violation of privacy laws, and the consistent lies that the authorities have engaged in over capabilities of the machines, Janet Napolitano, head of the DHS, recently announced plans to expand the full-body scanner program even further.In the U.S., travelers can refuse the body scanner and opt for the pat down, however, this option is not offered by the TSA, rather the traveler must declare that they wish to “opt out”.

Gibbs threatens to pull Obama from India talks after press dispute

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is known for sparring with White House reporters, making for what often seems an antagonistic mood in the press briefing room.But during President Obama’s trip to India, Gibbs assumed the role of press advocate and threatened to pull Obama out of bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh because three U.S. reporters were blocked from covering the meeting.

Indian officials would let only five reporters into Hyderabad House in New Delhi instead of the agreed-upon eight.

The Washington Post‘s Scott Wilson—who was on White House pool duty Monday and filed the report for the White House press corps—wrote that “Gibbs announced loudly and persistently on steps of Hyderabad House that he would pull” President Obama out of the meeting “unless ‘the White House 8,’ as we’ve come to be known, were all allowed in.”As the discussion continued, Gibbs grew more animated.”At one point, Gibbs literally had his foot lodged in the closing front door, asking if the Indian security officials pushing hard to shut it were going to break his foot,” Wilson continued.

I never expected to write this letter, but my Mom e-mailed me to get information about my career for a writeup on Veterans Day, and as this is the first such holiday in 22 years when I will not be on active duty, I felt compelled to let you know why I decided to quit.

Quit is a strong word, I know. Everyone I’ve talked to has repeated that I’ve had a marvelous career and that I’ve retired with honor. Maybe that’s true on paper; I guess that it’s reflected by the record. But that’s not how I feel. I feel like I’ve quit. And because I’m not a quitter, I feel I have to explain why — not that anyone is asking, but because perhaps they don’t know to ask.
