House Clears Path For Extension Of Government Spying On American Citizens

Two days after proposals to extend provisions of the draconian PATRIOT Act failed to attract a super majority in a fast track vote, another vote in the House of representatives has cleared the way for the smooth passage of the legislation.Last night’s vote put in to place a new rule that will allow the legislation to be passed by just a simple majority. It is expected that the House will vote again on the legislation next week, and that it will easily pass.

Earlier in the week, House Republicans had attempted to suspend House rules and pass the extension with limited debate and no amendments. That fell 7 votes short because a 2/3rds majority was required.Last night’s ballot saw 248 vote in favour of allowing the extension to proceed, while 176 voted against.Just four Republicans, including Congressman Ron Paul, voted against the extension. On Tuesday 26 Republicans had voted against. The other three Republican nays were Chris Gibson N.Y., Raul Labrador Idaho and Tom McClintock Calif..

The first point—which I’ve been warning about for more than two years—is the incapability of the Obama Administration on several different levels. Following George W. Bush, many people thought, was an easy act to follow. But the quality of the American leadership has grown worse.There has been an attempt to spin President Husni Mubarak’s speech as some type of victory for the Obama Administration.

Yet within hours this effort collapsed. The nation’s highest intelligence officials showed they had no idea what the Muslim Brotherhood represents, joked that they didn’t know any more than did CNN, and provided completely inaccurate information on the course of events in Egypt.

In order to serve as President of these United States, one must have supreme confidence in one’s self. The question is, “When does that confidence cross into neurosis?

 

With increasing frequency, articles and editorials are beginning to appear, everywhere from the Boston Globe to the New York Times, denoting the expanding ego of Barrack Obama and his ever-expanding sense of autocracy.

A singular query that seems to be a common thread in the analysis of the stunning Democrat defeat last November is, “Will President Obama’s ego allow him to recognize and understand defeat and moderate his approach and policies, or will he continue in the same vein?”

The President’s misinterpretation of the results of his 2008 presidential election in conjunction with, or because of, his egocentric belief in himself has led to his decreased popularity and legislative failure thus far. Obama’s inherent inability to understand the ‘common’ man has had a direct effect on his ability to govern.

Obama and his administration wrongly assumed, based on the 2008 election returns, they had been given permission to govern as they pleased. Two years later, having accomplished little to nothing of a positive nature, they have yet to realize their error. Obama and his administration wrongly assumed the ‘Obama’ personality and presence would continue to carry the day as it did during his campaign.

Again, they have yet to realize the Obama personality is not enough. The President’s own response to the devastating loss in November is to deride the people for not understanding what he’s trying to do, and to endeavor to make better speeches to get his point across, that being we must all work together while he refuses to do so. Obama and his administration assumed they could ‘hit the ground running,’ and by doing so could pass desired legislation while his administration was still new. Once again, they misjudged the sentiment of the people, the current congressional climate, and their own abilities……………….

Gwinnett judge sentenced a tea party member to serve eight years in prison for attacking and hospitalizing a President Barack Obama supporter during a 2009 bar room altercation, a prosecutor said Thursday.Jurors convicted Carnesville resident Larry Morgan, 39, of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated battery this week for smashing several bones in the victim’s face with a pool cue on Jan. 31, 2009 — a few days after Obama’s inauguration.

According to testimony, trouble began when Morgan was talking to other bar patrons about his negative feelings about Obama, when one of O’Neill’s friends said he had voted for the president.Morgan replied, “Well, you are stupid as hell,” before making some racist comments or jokes, witnesses testified, Taylor said. All people involved were white, she said.Later, O’Neill and his friend were laughing about or poking fun at Morgan’s comments when he became angry, fetched a pool cue and broke it across O’Neill’s face.

The impact was so forceful that the victim had no memory of being struck or the circumstances leading up to it, Taylor said.Morgan, who testified he considers himself a tea party member, told the court he was acting in self-defense. Seemingly clueless–yet again–Clapper said this about the Brotherhood:

“The term ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ is an umbrella term for a variety of movements, in the case of Egypt, a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has decried Al Qaeda as a perversion of Islam.” First and foremost, the Muslim Brotherhood is not and never has been secular–hence the name ‘Muslim’ and not “Secular” Brotherhood. The MB is considered by every viable expert on terrorism and the Middle East to be the Mother of all Islamic terrorist organizations.

Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann fired up the crowd at the 38th annual Conservative Political Action Conference CPAC Thursday, calling Obamacare – the law Washington Senator Patty Murray helped write – “the crown jewel of socialism.”“And repealing it is the driving motivation of my life.

The first political breath I take every morning is to repeal Obamacare,” she said.Bachmann said the President has spent the last two years ushering in socialism with his policies, specifically targeting the massive health care law the House recently voted to repeal.“Socialism might sell well in a Harvard faculty lounge,” she told the crowd. “But when it comes to finding a job, not so much.”

She warned that if President Obama won a second term in 2012, college-age adults would end up losing three-quarters of their pay in taxes, citing statistics from the National Center of Policy Analysis.A post at John Goodman‘s Health Policy Blog at the NCPA website shows that in addition to premium increases of up to 111 percent, the “implicit marginal tax rate for workers earning as little as $25,000″ could be as high as 60 percent, while those making $50,000 could see marginal rates of 65 percent.

Law school students may not only be getting an incomplete view of American history but a misleading notion of the Law of the Land, a dissident professor shows in a new book. “Modern scholars also refer to the early 20th Century as the ‘era of laissez-faire constitutionalism’ because they see it as a time when judges injected a radical libertarian, or laissez-faire, philosophy into their constitutional decisions,”

David N. Mayer writes in Liberty of Contract: Rediscovering a Lost Constitutional Right. “Indeed, the stereotypical view sees the Lochner era as a time when American judges, motivated by the desire to further the interests of rich capitalists, perverted the original meaning of the due process clauses in order to engraft a laissez-faire ideology—commonly caricatured as synonymous with the doctrines of ‘Social Darwinism’—on the Constitution.”

“This view so dominates modern scholarship that it is the orthodoxy of college textbooks, both the casebooks used in law school constitutional law classes and the textbooks used in undergraduate and graduate courses in constitutional and legal history.” Mayer is a professor of law and history at Chapman University in Ohio.

The Lochner decision referenced by Mayer was decided by the U. S. Supreme Court in 1905. In it, the Court decided that “Section 110 of the labor law of the State of New York, providing that no employees shall be required or permitted to work in bakeries more than sixty hours in a week, or ten hours a day, is not a legitimate exercise of the police power of the State, but an unreasonable, unnecessary and arbitrary interference with the right and liberty of the individual to contract in relation to labor, and, as such, it is in conflict with, and void under, the Federal Constitution.”

the course of my inquiries into many of history’s more recent controversies — JFK, Waco, Vince Foster, Oklahoma City, Ron Brown, TWA Flight 800, 9/11, Obama’s birth, the authorship of Obama’s books — I have come to see that when there are actual conspiracies afoot, they fall into two general categories, conspiracies of execution and conspiracies of concealment.Conspiracies of execution, at least on any kind of scale, are rare in American history. The nature of our national character and the openness of our political culture war against them.

Conspiracies of concealment are another matter. When officials fail in their duties and let, say, a president get shot, a plane get blown out of the sky, or a hijacker fly into a building, their first impulse is to conceal their mistakes. Such is human nature.To me, a “conspiracy theorist” is one who sees a conspiracy of execution where none could logically exist or who confuses a conspiracy of concealment with one of execution despite ample evidence to the contrary.Given this understanding, it is the rare “birther” who qualifies as a conspiracy theorist.

Few have conjured elaborate, impossible conspiracies on the scale Oliver Stone did in JFK or the French leftist Theirry Meyssan and others did with 9/11.Most birthers simply want to know where and when their president was born, a not unreasonable aspiration. Few insist that they know the answer. Despite my ample research, I do not know.All I do know is that the official story — the one Barack Obama trotted out in his memoir and both his convention speeches — is false. This is a huge lesson in political culture. It also shows just how bad the media coverage has been. Mubarak is not resigning. He’s managing the “reform” process. He is appointing a committee to study constitutional changes. He will decide when there are elections. He is going to “consider” changing the emergency law.

He basically said: I am an Arab warrior, not a community organizer. That speech should be required reading for anyone who wants to understand the Middle East.This is not over yet.

There has been no revolution so far, but the protesters are going to freak out. If Obama has been interpreted as applauding real and major change, either he didn’t know what Mubarak was going to say or he is going to look like a total fool.When Mubarak said he won’t accept outside advice, that was a direct slap at Obama.

Can you imagine the expression on Obama’s face as he watched the speech after being told by his intelligence that Mubarak resigned? After he made a speech about how the youth had forced change? If I had to summarize it, tabloid-style, I’d say: “Mubarak to Obama: Drop Dead!“The regime is not giving in — Mubarak will leave office, perhaps in September, but the regime will fight on.

The speech was the equivalent of Charles Bronson or Clint Eastwood saying: Come and get me!

course, we should not forget that this is a dictator refusing to step down. Mubarak and the army knew that this would inflame the crowd. The army would not have agreed to this unless it was willing to deal with the consequences.

The Republican leaders think that their deal with Obama to cut $100 Billion from the current budget is a big deal. It is less than 3% of the current budget and less than 7% of the deficit. The Republican leadership failed and the new Tea Party Republicans are angry about it…Obama has failed continually for the last two years.

His administration is dysfunctional. His policies have divided America rather than unite America. His czars are unconstitutional.

Perhaps the best evidence of how American history was rewritten, Soviet style, in the post-1865 era is the fact that most Americans seem to be unaware that “Independence Day” was originally intended to be a celebration of the colonists’ secession from the British empire.

Indeed, the word secession is not even a part of the vocabulary of most Americans, who more often than not confuse it with “succession.” The Revolutionary War was America’s first war of secession.America’s most prominent secessionist, Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration, was very clear about what he was saying: Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and whenever that consent is withdrawn, it is the right of the people to “alter or abolish” that government and “to institute a new government.”

The word “secession” was not a part of the American language at that time, so Jefferson used the word “separation” instead to describe the intentions of the American colonial secessionists……….

Given the intensity with which the Department of Homeland Security and Janet Napolitano have promoted the “See Something, Say Something” campaign, one would think the federal government would be keen on receiving reports from Americans about potential terror threats.

However, numerous calls to the DHS, FBI and the White House prove otherwise – the entire program is a hoax and the feds have no interest in preventing terrorism.For the past week, both on air and off air, Alex Jones has been trying to alert the federal government to terror threats and on every occasion has been rebuffed and ignored.

On Sunday, Alex called the FBI while hosting his live radio broadcast to report terrorism. During the last half hour of today’s show MP3 – video to follow, he called the White House and the DHS. On each occasion, the reports were met with ignored phone calls, answer phone messages that didn’t even state who was taking the message, and a complete failure to return any of the calls after messages were left.

After calling the White House a second time in an effort to talk to a real person, the line simply went dead before anyone answered.In addition, the DHS won’t even provide the number to report terror threats and instead passes the buck to local authorities when asked, as the phone calls made by Alex Jones prove.

Jones responded to numbers provided on “See Something, Say Something” flyers, only to be told by a DHS operator as well as a DHS press officer that local law enforcement were responsible for taking reports about terror threats.Jones then tried to call the local Austin Police Department but was told to call Homeland Security and was then shunted to yet another voicemail machine.

On every single occasion, Jones illustrated that it is impossible to report terror threats, proving that the entire mirage of anti-terror apparatus is a complete fraud.

Unlike so many books on American history, especially those about the “Civil War” era, Born Fighting gives one the impression that the author had embarked on a relentless search for truth and had no tolerance for the poison of political correctness.My intuition about Webb was confirmed recently when he refused to genuflect, scrape and grovel, and kiss the ring of George W. Bush at a White House reception in stark contrast to every other member of Congress in attendance.

Then, a day later, I really knew that Senator-elect Webb was a man to be admired when George “Statecraft as Soul Craft” Will, the resident Lincoln-worshipping Straussian /Neocon Iraq war apologist on the Washington Post op-ed page, called him a “boor” and generally trashed him in a column. Congratulations, Senator-elect Webb!Born Fighting is a passionate, well-researched book about the Scotch-Irish in America “my people,” as Webb calls them.

Since June 2003, it’s been monitoring travelers’ facial expressions and body language for signs that they might be hiding something. As of March 2010, the TSA’s Screening Passengers by Observational Techniques SPOT program had 3,000 “behavior detection officers” in more than 150 airports.

Of the 2 billion passengers who traveled through airports where the behavior-scanning program was deployed between 2004 and 2008, 152,000 were flagged for further examination.

Patriot Act fails on House floor — but it will be back

A plan that would have seen the House of Representatives extend controversial provisions of the Patriot Act with little debate failed Tuesday night, as a group of Republicans joined a majority of Democrats in voting no.The House voted 277 to 148 for the Patriot Act extension — 23 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass it under a procedure that allows bills that aren’t controversial to pass quickly.

But it appears the bill was controversial enough to convince some two dozen tea party-backed Republican freshmen to join a majority of Democrats in voting against it, The Hill reported.

The measure is now expected to return to the House floor for a regular vote that would require a simple majority to pass. If House members vote then as they did Tuesday, the extension will pass easily.Full article here

One of the most pitiful, relentlessly irritating op-eds about O-Care that I’ve read since our long national nightmare began in summer ’09. To understand what makes it so grating, you need to know that the author, Laurence Tribe, is not only a Harvard Law prof who taught Obama but a bona fide titan of constitutional jurisprudence on the left.

He wrote a famous treatise on the subject and was, in his younger days, a perennial candidate for the Supreme Court when Democrats were in the White House. You might also remember him as the guy who sneered, amusingly, in a letter to Obama that Sotomayor isn’t nearly as smart as she thinks she is, and who endorsed Kagan because he thought she’d be better able to keep Anthony Kennedy from “drifting” towards the right.

You need all of that as background for two reasons.

One:

, per his credentials, you’re expecting an argument for the mandate here that’s novel or unusually penetrating, you’re mistaken. His points about the Commerce Clause and Congress’s taxing power are as pedestrian as it gets, stuff you’ve read in a hundred different permutations from liberals over the past 18 months……..

In the presence of an all powerful government you have totalitarianism.

In both cases a man’s attention must be focused on attending to the immediacies necessary for survival. In the former, dangers can be found around any corner as everyone fends for themselves. In the latter, dangers can be found around every corner as the government controls and sees all.

When your entire existence is focused on surviving one day to the next, it’s difficult to focus on things like science, leisure or any of the myriad other things we take for granted in civilized society……………………..

The United States faces a crushing debt of well over $14 trillion and adds to it at a rate of roughly $4.15 billion per day on average. The absolute first step in paying off this debt, which will be a problem to be dealt with likely through this entire century, is to balance the federal budget so that no more is added to it.

This process will be extremely difficult and very drawn out in and of itself because the total gap between what the government collects in taxes and what it currently spends is about a $1.5 trillion deficit for just this year.Many new ideas are beginning to surface about plans to solve the crisis. Everyone agrees that solving the deficit issue is absolutely step one. With taxes collected by the government holding steady at about 19 percent of GDP, close to the historic average, the culprit is easily identified as completely out of control government spending.One such person to offer up a new plan is the new Republican House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan with his “American Roadmap.”

Using chambers cut off 12 ga. scrap barrels and a new $10 bbl for an Italian auto shotgun, the only other gun part is a scrapped hammer from a 1857 Remington perc revolver:Loads like a SAA Colt but underlever rotates and cocks it. Blow-by is negligible, hardly noticeable with normal shirt sleeve.Opened for some still shots, at top of the inside pix screwed in is the firing pin, impact type with return spring.

At very bottom the small knob releases the cylinder to turn clockwise for loading.Due to limited equipment I was unable to copy existing mechanisms so it is pretty much designed from scratch, largely by cut and try, trial and error, etc.

A Rasmussen poll released Monday indicates that Congressman Ron Paul has a better shot of beating Obama in the 2012 presidential election than Sarah Palin would, should both decide to run on the GOP ticket.

 

The poll shows that in these extremely early stages, Ron Paul would poll 35% of votes to Obama’s 44%, where as Sarah Palin would attract 38% to an Obama count of 49%.The figures mean that at this time the Texas Congressman would score 2% more of the overall vote than the former governor of Alaska.

President Obama’s assertion on Sunday that he “didn’t raise taxes once” is “blatantly false,” a taxpayer watchdog group says. Obama made the claim in his pre-Super Bowl interview with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.According to Americans for Tax Reform ATR, President Obama has signed into law at least two dozen tax increases.

The first one – a federal tobacco tax hike – came just 16 days into his presidency.ATR says the $1 trillion health care overhaul alone added numerous taxes, including the individual mandate that requires most Americans to purchase health insurance or else pay a fine.During the legislative debate, Obama and Democrats in Congress argued that a penalty for not carrying insurance is not a tax.

But in recent attempts to defend Obamacare as constitutional, the Obama Justice Department has called the penalty a tax.The health care law’s employer mandate provision also should be considered a tax, ATR said.

That provision requires companies to report all business-to-business sales of goods and services exceeding $600 to the Internal Revenue Service. In a bipartisan vote, the Senate recently voted to repeal the so-called 1099 provision, and Obama says he supports the repeal.The health care law also includes a tax on medical device manufacturers, as well as a higher tax on withdrawals from health savings accounts and a cap on flexible spending accounts……………………

New documents released under the Freedom of Information Act confirm that the FBI received a phone call the day before the Oklahoma City bombing warning that the attack was imminent, and that the feds tried to reach a deal with bomber Terry Nichols to take the death penalty off the table if he admitted making the call.

The documents were released to Salt Lake City lawyer Jesse Trentadue, who in the course of of a 15 year battle in trying to ascertain why his brother was tortured to death during an FBI interrogation related to the case, has all but proven the attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Building was an inside job run by FBI agents who were handling Timothy McVeigh.

What that indicates to me, there is a record somewhere of that phone call and the FBI needs to explain it,” said Trentadue in an interview with KTOK News. “If the call was from one of their informants with McVeigh, clearly, they had knowledge of the bombing and didn’t stop it.”

Today, following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the American people face another troublesome threat—swarms of security agents harassing us at airports, borders, buildings, and highways. Like many of you who travel frequently, my wife, Jo Ann, and I have been subjected to these often overzealous security guards who ask inane questions; force us to remove our shoes, jackets, and belt buckles; and meticulously go through our carry-on bags. I’ve had my fingernail clippers confiscated twice.

Jo Ann was frisked three times in one day. Others have fared far worse. My friend and IOL fellow columnist Walter Williams was almost arrested in Jacksonville, Florida, after he refused to be patted down. A congressman was required to disrobe. After these security encounters, I always feel my privacy, indeed my dignity, has been violated.

Like ordinary folks, presidents of the United States are known by the company they keep. It is a test of their character. Often it shapes their policies. And, in the case of Barack Obama, it may blight his legacy and our nation’s security interests.Until now, one of the most egregious examples of the problem were the “Friends of Bill” who played prominent roles in William Jefferson Clinton’s presidency.

Those folks included a mix of unsavory political operatives, Chinese agents and convicted felons. [Their overnight stays in the Lincoln bedroom, legally challenged fundraising and eleventh-hour pardons raised serious questions not just about President Clinton’s ethics, but his judgment.]President Obama’s trusted circle has been, if anything, even more problematic.

Lawsuits were filed against the Centers for Rehab Services by two employees who were fired over an e-mail comparing President Barack Obama to a tar ball washing ashore in the Gulf of Mexico.The company said the e-mail was inappropriate, but the employees said they were just expressing their political views and were wrongfully fired.

Team 4 investigator Paul Van Osdol reported that the e-mail in question was circulated last summer while the federal government was trying to contain the massive Gulf oil spill.It showed an image of Obama walking along a Gulf beach with the caption, “Another tar ball washed up on the shore.

The fact is we know less about President Obama than perhaps any other president in American history and much of this is due to actual efforts to hide his record. This should concern all Americans.A nation-wide network of researchers has sprung up to attempt to fill in the blanks, but at every opportunity Obama’s high-priced lawyers have built walls around various records or simply made them disappear.

It is estimated that Obama’s legal team has now spent well over $1.4 million dollars blocking access to documents every American should have access to. The question is why would he spend so much money to do this?The president who campaigned for a more “open government” and “full disclosure” will not unseal his medical records, his school records, his birth records or his passport records.

He will not release his Harvard records, his Columbia College records, or his Occidental College records—he will not even release his Columbia College thesis.All his legislative records from the Illinois State Senate are missing and he claims his scheduling records during those State Senate years are lost as well.

In addition, no one can find his school records for the elite K-12 college prep school, Punahou School, he attended in Hawaii.What is he hiding?

I’ve yet to find any legal expert who seems to believe that the law actually says this anywhere. In the interview, John Moe asked Agent Hayes a very simple question: given that these domains were all seized based solely on the fact that they link to infringing content hosted elsewhere, and all of the same content is also linked from Google, will the Feds seize Google’s domain name?

Well, more specifically, Moe asks if ICE could seize Google’s domain name. Amusingly, right after being asked, Hayes conveniently gets cut off, but he does call back and the question is asked again………………………..
