— President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, will celebrate American poetry and prose with a gathering of poets, musicians and artists at the White House next Wednesday night. Professionals Elizabeth Alexander, Billy Collins, Rita Dove, Kenneth Goldsmith, Alison Knowles, Aimee Mann and Jill Scott will read, sing and highlight poetry’s influence on American culture.

And there is another poet whose works will be honored: as NH Journal points out, “One of the poets who will attend is Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. who goes by the name ‘Common.’”

“Tell the law my Uzi weighs a ton … I hold up a peace sign but I carry a gun,” raps Common in one appearance that was posted onto YouTube. The performance, you’ll see, is full of racially-tinged language. According to NH Journal, Common is an acolyte of Rev. Jeremiah Wright:

It is likely Obama met Common at the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ where both men were members. Several of Wright’s sermons caused a firestorm of controversy during the 2008 presidential campaign due to their caustic, racially charged, anti-American tones. One sermon in particular caused Obama a severe headache – the one in which he blamed America for Osama bin Laden’s terrorist attacks. “America’s chickens are coming home to roost,” he said.

Obama at first tried to defend Wright. But when that strategy became untenable, he disavowed him. Not so Common. In fact, Common defended his minister.

Here’s a news bulletin — it is becoming increasingly clear that we are living in a time when Republican politics are being shaped by a 75-year-old, 12-term Texas congressman with a son in the Senate. And incredibly, it is no longer out of the realm of possibility that this outcast of the GOP establishment may win the party’s presidential nomination.

If you have not been paying attention, it is time to look around and realize that we are living in the political age of Rep. Ron Paul.

A CNN/Opinion Research poll released late last week shows Paul faring the best against President Obama of any potential Republican candidate. He trails the president by only 7 points, 52-45 percent, in a head-to-head matchup. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trails by 8 points, with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney down 11 points to Obama.

In February, Paul won the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Action Conference for the second straight year.

Last Thursday, the day of the first GOP debate, one of Paul’s fabulously-labeled “money bombs” exploded with the announcement of $1 million in contributions for the Paul campaign.

The Tea Party, which drove the GOP to claim a majority of the House in the mid-term elections, grew largely out of the ashes of his 2008 presidential campaign, which emphasized limited government and a return to constitutional principles. Since then, the Tea Party has bullied the Republican leadership in the House to force budget cuts at the risk of shutting down the government and collectively become the most persistent critic of the Obama presidency on financial regulatory reform and health care.

The roots of all of this are in the libertarian mind of Rep. Paul.

At last week’s debate, put on by my other employer, Fox News Channel, I was struck by the libertarian flair the iconoclast injected into the evening. First, his presence along with another libertarian Republican — former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson — allowed for Republicans nationwide to witness a debate in which strong arguments for immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan came from the right. But that was just the start. There are instances where Paul’s views make the Republican establishment want to scream.

“Obama used a Connecticut social security number for a number of year’s. His application to get it, apparently was fraudulent. Apparently this is a felony.”

This is an interview of Susan Daniels, a licensed private investigator. Here’s what she said,

1) This number (042684425) was issued in 1977 to Obama. It was originally given to someone born in 1890. He used it as a US Senator.

2) the application for this number is a forgery.

3) Ayers in one of his books bragged about how he could construct an identity for anyone. 4) to get this number one had to have a Connecticut address. Obama never lived in Connecticut.

5) She gave this information to people in power on both sides of the aisle and no one wanted to run with it. Nor would any public prosecutor. Even Limbaugh and Beck didn’t follow up.

6) she has now given it to Donald Trump.

7) She also said his name was changed to Barry Soetoro and never changed back.”

First of all, I’d like to offer some final thoughts on the Osama bin Laden story.

I’m not at all convinced Obama is telling the truth. And how convenient that they “buried him at sea.”

So far, I ain’t buyin’ the story, folks. Osama bin Laden may have been dead for years. He may still be alive.

It’s possible that he was killed yesterday just as Obama claims.

You can believe what you want, but it’s likely that last night’s announcement was intended to shore up the public’s waning support for our insane military misadventures in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to build support for even further wars with Libya and Iran, and now we should probably add Syria to the list.

But it’s all moot.

Because Osama bin Laden won. Period.

If you accept the establishment version of 9/11, a rag tag bunch of ragheads, led by Osama bin Laden from a cave at the end of the earth, and armed with nothing more than a few pairs of box cutters, pulled off the most astonishing and effective terrorist attack in world history. In response, we destroyed American liberties with the USA PATRIOT act. We bankrupted ourselves to the tune of several trillion dollars attacking and destroying……………

Accusing someone of lying is a serious matter. Especially when that someone is the President of the United States. Charges of that nature should be leveled based only on absolute proof of a deliberate statement, intentionally made, whose sole purpose is to deceive. Based on this criterion, President Obama is a liar. Demonstrably so. And a disturbing pattern is emerging that allows for the possibility that our president is a serial liar. Consider:

In just the last month,

Obama has made several statements that are just not so. Statements made to the American public that were in direct conflict with known facts.

In April, Obama flatly stated that implementing ObamaCare will reduce the deficit by $1 trillion. A day later, the Congressional Budget Office reported that statement was ‘incorrect,’ pegging the “deficit savings” at $210 billion over 10 years.

In the same April 15 speech, Obama stated that the tax burden on the wealthy is the lowest it has been in 50 years. A simple fact-check proves him wrong. Obama did not correct his false statement and the media didn’t either.

In January of 2009, Obama stated that it was no longer necessary to kill Osama bin Laden to win the war against al-Qaeda. On May 1, 2011, after the successful raid by Navy Seals that killed bin Laden, Obama told the nation that he made the capture or killing of Osama bin Laden a “top priority,” and had instructed CIA Chief Leon Panetta to make this job number one. Which statement is correct?

Last week, several of my friends asked me if I believed that bin Laden was really dead. The questions weren’t surprising, considering the mass of misinformation and conflicting accounts of bin Laden’s death now emanating from the White House…

As gasoline prices passed $4 per gallon in Connecticut, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Joseph D. Courtney joined President Obama in denouncing “speculators” and urging investigation of manipulation in the oil market. There are a few problems with this.

First is that such investigations have been undertaken before, including investigations by Blumenthal himself during his 20 years as Connecticut’s attorney general, and they never found anything more than the OPEC oil producer cartel’s public but uneven efforts to support the oil price.

Anti-competitive as its activity is, OPEC’s formation a half century ago was only a defensive response to the rigging of the currency markets by Western central banks and particularly by the U.S. Treasury Department and Federal Reserve, which were manipulating the value of the world reserve currency, the dollar, the international means of payment for oil, long before OPEC began to try to manipulate the oil price.

The second problem is that there are always speculators in all major markets.

In a sign of one major internal difference, Mr. Chu has called for gradually ramping up gasoline taxes over 15 years to coax consumers into buying more-efficient cars and living in neighborhoods closer to work.

“Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” Mr. Chu

the best route for raising gas prices for Chu is to increase taxes and then demonize the oil companies for *gasp* making a profit. And if you don’t think government makes enough in taxes on gasoline, look here:

Exxon makes an average of 2 cents per gallon in America, while government takes in an average of about 50 cents depending on your state.

Remember this the next time you fill up. Obama and his administration don’t want to lower costs, they want to raise them.

“Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” said Steven Chu — the man Barack Obama would ultimately tap to be energy secretary — in September 2008.

He was explaining to The Wall Street Journal that higher energy prices are the centerpiece of the Left’s energy overhaul. Well, I don’t know if they’ve figured out the Euro-boost yet, but we are halfway to Vienna.

Now, while I’m sure Barack Obama would love it if gas prices declined until November 6, 2012, there’s every reason to believe he shares Chu’s sentiments.

And if the fact that he hired such a man in the first place isn’t enough for you, consider his campaign-trail implication that he wouldn’t have a problem with four-dollar-a-gallon gas (hey, it won’t cramp his lifestyle.

Golf, anyone?).

Consider also that he’s quite willing to subordinate the satisfying of energy needs to symbolic environmental deeds. For example, in 2008, he told the San Francisco Chronicle that his policies would bankrupt the traditional coal industry and said “Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket [emphasis added].”

It’s amazing what comes out of his mouth — even on the campaign trail — off Teleprompter.

Given this attitude, it’s not surprising that oil rigs, denied permits to drill by the Obama administration, have been leaving the Gulf of Mexico for foreign shores.

And don’t expect to see them back anytime soon, either. After all, moving a Walmart-size rig is no small feat, and not all countries have a national death wish that causes the afflicted to kill the golden goose like ghetto criminals who ensure that businesses will leave their neighborhoods.

Several national publications recently speculated that Sen. Orrin Hatch was purposely deleting pages from his official website in an attempt to preserve his conservative bona fides. Hatch’s office, however, squashed the rumors by thoroughly clarifying that the elimination of certain web pages was an “internal decision” related to the launch of “a brand new website.”

Here’s a timeline of what transpired: Darren Elliot wrote a piece for Salon on Thursday revisiting the Presidential Eligibility Amendment, a 2003 bill introduced by Hatch that would allow foreign-born American citizens to run for president — a stance which at the time was primarily aimed clearing the path for the political ascendancy of Arnold Schwarzenegger but that today would almost certainly be anathema to “birthers” and a majority of tea partiers.

The very next day Elliot followed up with another article, this time stating: “Less than 24 hours after the (Thursday) piece went up, a tech blogger discovered that the section of Hatch’s website that mentioned the ‘Presidential Eligibility Amendment’ had mysteriously disappeared.”
