Political coup d’etat of the Constitution In the Spring of 2008, however, politicians found an opportunity to create a precedent, whereby they could change the eligibility requirements for the Presidency without an Amendment. At that time, John McCain’s eligibility according to the natural born clause was being questioned. La Raza wants a dictator (Incredible excerpt from the Obama speech yesterday) Obama’s in favor

July 26, 2011 1 comment

He goes into this at about 15 minutes into the video. You need to hear these people. The text does *NOT* do it justice. This is what danger we are in.

Obama‘s La Raza speech

And I promise you, we are responding to your concerns and working every day to make sure we are enforcing flawed laws in the most humane and best possible way.

Now, I know some people want me to bypass Congress and change the laws on my own. (Applause.) And believe me, right now dealing with Congress –

AUDIENCE: Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can!

THE PRESIDENT: Believe me — believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting. (Laughter.) I promise you. Not just on immigration reform. (Laughter.) But that’s not how — that’s not how our system works.

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Change it!

The numbers don’t add up for the fraud in the straw hat « Coach is Right

Remember how “cool” Barack Obama came across in that picture of him in a straw hat with a cigarette dangling from his lips? It charmed the “Oh so wise” 18 to 30 year olds who were intent upon showing the rest of us how THEY were so much better than older generations because THEY would vote for a Black man to be our president?

Well the children are waking up and realizing they were led over a cliff by the fraud in the straw hat whose plan is to enslave them to the government. Obama’s edge with the “Clearasil Crowd” is melting and has dropped 10 points since 2008.

The White vote

The essential component of any victorious presidential campaign is a strong showing among White voters. Regardless of the non-stop contrary propaganda from the media,America still has a White majority. Democrats have not won the White vote since 1964,but coming close a few times has given them some victories.

Obama did just well enough with Whites (41% men,46% women) to win given the strong support he got from Blacks,Jews and other groups who voted for him because he is Black. This can be the only explanation for voting for a man nobody knew then and to this day nobody knows very much about. Today only 40% of Whites, who will cast 74% of the vote, support Obama.

Beck: Norway camp smacks of ‘Hitler Youth’

July 26, 2011 Leave a comment

(CNN) — In the wake of last week’s massacre in Norway, U.S. conservative commentator Glenn Beck on Monday compared the summer camp where most of the 76 victims died to the Hitler Youth organization of Nazi Germany.

Beck, on his radio show, declared the killings “the work of a madman” and called the suspect “as bad as Osama bin Laden.” But before launching into that condemnation, he questioned what the victims were doing at a summer camp run by Norway’s ruling Labour Party.

Beck said the camp “sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler Youth or whatever. Who does a camp for kids that’s all about politics? Disturbing.”

However, politically-oriented camps are being organized in several U.S. states by chapters of the “9/12 Project” — an organization founded by Beck himself in 2009.

**SNIP**

And in August, the Danville, Kentucky, chapter is holding a “Vacation Liberty School” that organizers pledge “will help your children understand where we came from. Understand where we went wrong. Understand where the fork in the road was, and which path we should have taken.”

Obama May Be Slowly Isolating Himself

July 26, 2011 1 comment

In the ongoing budget negotiations, it is becoming quite clear that President Obama, quite contrary to his posturing, is the major fly in the ointment.

Even the Democratic leadership is more flexible than President Obama, putting the lie to the oft-stated speculation that Obama is a mere puppet. He is his own counsel.

It was reported that on Sunday night, he unilaterally rejected a bipartisan deal presented to him by Senate and House leaders. “Sen. (Harry) Reid took the bipartisan plan to the White House, and the president said no,” an aide said.

This is quite a different picture from what President Obama has been painting for the press. At the exact moment he said he didn’t want to point fingers, he complained that he and his Democrats had been willing to compromise but that Republicans were dug into their ideological cement.

He said, “And I think one of the questions that the Republican Party is going to have to ask itself is, Can they say yes to anything?” Are you kidding me? This is the guy who still hasn’t presented his own plan and obstructs all others not conforming to his unreasonable demands.

Though later reports indicate Reid may be caving to Obama’s demands, this question remains: Why is Obama even willing to pit himself against his own party?

Well, he’d have us belief that he alone is standing up for the will and interests of the American people. He must think we forgot how he crammed Obamacare down our throats. A strong majority still wants it repealed.

In a recent news conference, he fraudulently claimed that 80 percent of Americans want tax increases to be included in a deal and that he would reject any deal that did not include a tax increase for the “wealthiest Americans.” But Rasmussen Reports indicates that 55 percent of Americans do not want tax increases as part of the deal. A CNN poll finds that 66 percent support “cut, cap and balance,” and 74 percent support a balanced budget amendment, both of which Obama steadfastly opposes.

Obama’s intransigence is based on his ideology and raw political calculations. Obama can’t bring himself to forgo his tax hikes, even during a recession, or to embrace structural entitlement reform, because these things would offend every redistributionist molecule in his body.

So while Obama says the Republicans won’t bend, it is he who has not shown any willingness to move on taxes or entitlements. But those aren’t the only issues on which he’s set in stone. He has now become just as inflexible in resisting any short-term deal. He has said he will not sign a deal that does not raise the debt ceiling enough ($2.4 trillion) to get him past the 2012 election. Obviously, he doesn’t want this nagging, inconvenient debt issue and wrangling with Congress to diminish his re-election prospects. Ever the statesman, he is placing his political fortunes above the interests of the nation.

In all honesty, I’m not convinced that Obama is particularly worried about the debt even today. He seems more concerned with high-speed rail, new “green” projects and other programs he and fellow statists believe are good for the people — even if they don’t.

During the Friday presser, he gave a shout-out to his like-minded progressives, telling them they should join him in getting the fiscal house in order because it would allow them to focus on their federal goody bag, “like infrastructure, like rebuilding our roads and our bridges (and) airports, like investing more in college education, like making sure that we’re focused on the kinds of research and technology that’s going to help us win the future.”

In Obama’s world, everything centers on the government, not the private sector. It was telling that in his presser, he didn’t mention private-sector unemployed, only the government workers who would lose their jobs if the debt ceiling is not increased.

I was initially opposed to a short-term deal, because I thought it would be just another device to kick the can down the road and defer real spending and entitlement reform. But it is clear that given his mindset, this president cannot be entrusted with an increase in the debt ceiling that would empower him to ignore further fiscal reform until after the election.

While we fret over spooking the markets each time a budget deadline approaches, a short-term deal would keep these issues on the front burner until the election, where they need to be. It would keep the ruling class on the hot seat and enforce some degree of discipline.

Through his unreasonableness and dogmatism, Obama has isolated himself and is trying to bully Congress into having everything his way. He is holding the budget deal hostage to his redistributionist demands and his perceived political interests — anything but addressing the existential threat facing this nation. Pray the congressional leadership can continue to keep the heat on instead of throwing him more rope to fiscally strangle the nation.

Transcript: Boehner’s Speech on Debt Talks

July 26, 2011 Leave a comment

Here was the president, asking for the largest debt increase in American history, on the heels of the largest spending binge in American history.

Here’s what we got for that spending binge: a massive health care bill that most Americans never asked for. A ‘stimulus’ bill that was more effective in producing material for late-night comedians than it was in producing jobs. And a national debt that has gotten so out of hand it has sparked a crisis without precedent in my lifetime or yours.

Last week, the House passed such a plan, and with bipartisan support. It’s called the ‘Cut, Cap, and Balance’ Act. It CUTS and CAPS government spending and paves the way for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution, which we believe is the best way to stop Washington from spending money it doesn’t have. Before we even passed the bill in the House, the President said he would veto it.

I want you to know I made a sincere effort to work with the president to identify a path forward that would implement the principles of Cut, Cap, & Balance in a manner that could secure bipartisan support and be signed into law. I gave it my all.

Unfortunately, the president would not take yes for an answer. Even when we thought we might be close on an agreement, the president’s demands changed.

The president has often said we need a ‘balanced’ approach — which in Washington means: we spend more. . .you pay more. Having run a small business, I know those tax increases will destroy jobs.

The sad truth is that the president wanted a blank check six months ago, and he wants a blank check today. That is just not going to happen.

Veteran psychiatrist: Leftists are mentally ill

July 26, 2011 Leave a comment

For more than 40 years, Rossiter has diagnosed and treated over 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases, both state and federal, as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist retained by numerous public offices, courts and private attorneys. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.

Rossiter explains with great clarity why the kind of liberalism being displayed by Barack Obama can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

“Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded,” says Rossiter. “Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave.”

(Story continues below)

“A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do,” he says. “A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which overregulates and overtaxes the nation’s citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do.”

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

* creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;

* satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;

* augmenting primitive feelings of envy;

* rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

“The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind,” he says. “When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.”

Obama’s “Baby Talk”

July 26, 2011 Leave a comment

Baby Talk Bill Kristol I was struck by these sentences in President Obama’s speech:

“Now, what makes today’s stalemate so dangerous is that it has been tied to something known as the debt ceiling – a term that most people outside of Washington have probably never heard of before.

Understand – raising the debt ceiling does not allow Congress to spend more money. It simply gives our country the ability to pay the bills that Congress has already racked up.”

Consider the condescension implicit in the president’s statement—“a term that most people outside of Washington have probably never heard of before.” These “people outside of Washington” are not little children being lectured on an obscure subject by a worldly adult. These people outside Washington are … citizens. Judging by the polls, most of us have opinions about whether, and under what conditions, the debt ceiling should be raised. We don’t seem to be as ignorant as Obama thinks we are of the term or concept of a debt ceiling. But the president assumes we’ve never bothered our pretty little heads about such a thing.

And he doesn’t want us to start bothering our pretty little heads about it now. So Obama instructs us as to what the debt ceiling is. He claims that “raising the debt ceiling does not allow Congress to spend more money.” That statement might be true about a rise in the debt ceiling that would take us only through the rest of the current fiscal year, for which funds have already been appropriated by Congress.

It is simply not true about the increase Obama is asking for, which is designed to cover the next fiscal year and a bit more. T

he fact is, Obama’s $2.4 trillion increase..

VIDEO: Dem Rep. Pete Stark on the Debt Limit: “I think it’s a political charade..”

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

At a townhall meeting on July 23, 2011, Rep Pete Stark said that he believes the debt limit is a ‘political charade’.

Stark says, “You’ve heard a lot about the Debt Limit. And I guess that’s – I don’t know how many of you are worried about it or concerned about it. The fact is I think it’s a political charade.”

“I’m afraid that the Democrats have done that in the past, threatened to shut down the government. I don’t think there’s a chance that it will happen. I think the last time somebody did, they lost enough seats in the House of Representatives to convince them it was a dumbest thing they ever did. [It] doesn’t get us anywhere, it doesn’t help anybody, and to extend the Debt Limit is nothing more – than people have described it – than that the government’s credit card doesn’t run out of resources.

Meet the New Plan, Same as the Old Plan (Reid Phantom Savings)

July 25, 2011 1 comment

Meet the New Plan, Same as the Old Plan As Drew noted below, Obama decided to hold our nation’s credit rating hostage over the sticking point of making sure he doesn’t have to beg for another increase in the debt limit before the elections.

Reid dutifully cancelled the plan he had agreed to, at Obama’s insistence.

Reid is now proposing a slightly different plan which will address the only thing that matters to Obama, his personal political fortunes.

In the new plan, Reid suggests giving Obama his $2.5 trillion in debt limit increase — enough to get President Pissypants through his election — and comes up with another $1.4 trillion in cuts.

Those “cuts,” however, are entirely of the phantom variety — they are the anticipated savings from no longer fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. That’s actual money we won’t be spending, but that is already figured on anyway, and further, that’s money that’s spent as required, or not spent as not required. Bush had counted that spending off budget, which Obama claimed was deceptive, but it is a fair way to characterize the emergency, special-conditions nature of it. Those expenses were never part of the permanent budget going forward, were they?

So Reid invents $1.4 trillion in “savings” there and adds it to what he’s already agreed to cut (about a trillion) and says, “Voila, $2.7 trillion in cuts.”

I don’t know how that extra 0.3 trillion gets tacked on there — maybe interest saved by not spending that money. I don’t know.

The point is, this is still the same $1 T Biden and his team agreed to a month and a half ago, added to some phantom cuts, to claim that there is a 1-to-1 exchange of cuts and debt ceiling increase.

The only plus here, from our perspective, is no rise in taxes, which I’m not sure I’m even counting as a plus. What I mean is: Low taxes plus high spending forever (and always increasing high spending) is no way to run a country. Something has to give here, doesn’t it? Without actually reigning in out of control spending, I’m not sure how much of a victory it is to continue to push the country towards insolvency.

But it’s unclear whether this plan could pass, in any event, as liberals are calling it a “cave” by the Democrats because they don’t get their precious tax increases.

So, the new plan:

1. Will not have the support of the House’s fiscal hawk wing, because its cuts are puny, and mostly imaginary.

2. Probably will not have support of many Democrats, because there are no tax hikes.

3. Apparently only satisfies a single man in Washington, DCBarack Obama — by giving him his debt limit increase and taking it off the table for 2012.

I don’t see this new plan going anywhere.

Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) are calling the savings from “future wars unfought” a legitimate “cut,” because that was assumed in the Paul Ryan budget, too.

Um… yeah, this is a little hard to explain, but assuming those wars wind down, yes, we won’t be spending as much on them, and so yes, that money should be accounted for somewhere in the budget.

But this isn’t really a “cut,” and it’s definitely not a “cut” within the meaning of the Republicans‘s one-dollar-of-cuts-for-every-dollar-of-debt-limit requirement.

Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life.”

Movie buffs will recognize this quote from the film: “The Manchurian Candidate” starring Lawrence Harvey and Frank Sinatra. It is a riveting film, released at the very height of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. The film is a tale of a Soviet Communist plot where brainwashed and conditioned Korean War POWs are released back to the USA with a mission: Return home and assassinate a Presidential Candidate. The Soviets hope that in the ensuing panic and a desire for stability, that Vice-Presidential Candidate [ actually a communist dupe controlled by his wife] would be placed at the top of the ticket and swept into office sympathetically by voters.

The trained assassin Staff Sergeant Shaw [Lawrence Harvey], receives a Medal of Honor for actions in Korea. These actions were, in reality, only memories implanted into the minds of his squad members. Shaw is chosen as the assassin because he is the Step-son of the Vice-Presidential Candidate. And unbeknownst to Shaw, his mother is the planted Communist Agent who will influence his Step-Father’s actions as President. The assassination plot begin to unravel as Shaw’s former Commanding Officer, Captain Marco [Sinatra], deals with his recurring nightmare that slowly reveal discomforting details of a plot to which the soldiers are all to be accomplices. Are you totally confused? Do you think this is too fictionally fantastic? Watch the film again, but this time watch with a “different set of eyes.”

In the meantime, I have attached a short 7 minute film You Tube presentation about “Grinding America Down.” This film clip might amount to “singing to the choir” for most of you.

Grinding America Down

Still there are many, I fear, who would sincerely believe that this is only a bit of hyperbolic anti-Marxism and anti-Communism. It is so passé and overdrawn these days. Or is it? I still hear it opined: “After all, didn’t we win the Cold War? Surely, Barack Obama is not a Communist … he’s just an ordinary Liberal Leftist doing what he thinks is best for America.” We hear this every day and night from the “talking heads.” Welcome to “Conditioning 101.”

Grand Ole Tyrants by Thomas DiLorenzo ~ “What would cause a president to wage war on his own citizens whose liberties he had just pledged to protect?”

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

The very first public statement that Abraham Lincoln made after being inaugurated as the sixteenth president was an ironclad defense of slavery: “I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.” He then quoted the Republican Party platform of 1860 that said essentially the same thing; pledged his support for the Fugitive Slave Clause of the Constitution “with no mental reservations”; and supported a proposed constitutional amendment (the “Corwin Amendment”) that would have prohibited the federal government from ever interfering with slavery. In fact, it was Lincoln who instructed William Seward to see that the Corwin Amendment made it through the U.S. Senate, which it did (and the House of Representatives as well).

In the same speech, Lincoln promised a military invasion and “bloodshed” in any state that refused to collect the federal tariff on imports, which had just been more than doubled two days before his inauguration. “[T]here needs to be no bloodshed or violence, and there shall be none unless it be forced upon the national authority,” he continued. Thus, mere minutes after taking an oath to protect the constitutional liberties of American citizens, Abraham Lincoln threatened to orchestrate the murder of many of those same citizens.

What on earth was he talking about? What would cause a president to wage war on his own citizens whose liberties he had just pledged to protect? Lincoln explained in the very next sentence: “The power confided to me will be used to hold, occupy, and possess the property and places belonging to the Government and to collect the duties and imposts; but beyond what may be necessary for these objects, there will be no invasion, no using force against or among the people anywhere” (emphasis added). He promised to murder American citizens over tax collection.

Will the Real Lincoln Please Stand Up?

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

Professor Owens reviewed The Real Lincoln, by Tom DiLorenzo, in The Washington Times on May 4, 2002.

The book review does not withstand reasonable scrutiny.

First, Owens begins by describing the book as “a rehash of Confederate propaganda spiced up with touches of Marxist economic analysis.”

I think that someone has been watching Emeril.

Clearly, however, this is not a neutral or friendly review by Professor Owens. Ignoring the fact that one might accuse Owens of rehashing Northern propaganda (and spicing it up with touches of mercantilism and John Maynard Keynes), it is both highly amusing and distressing to see Owens accuse Tom DiLorenzo of applying “Marxist economic analysis” to the life of Lincoln.

Giving Owens the benefit of the doubt (and making his argument for him; generally, this is a no-no, but I am striving to be fair), it would appear that Owens refers to DiLorenzo as a “Marxist” because: (1) DiLorenzo (God forbid) considers the economic causes of the War Between the States; and (2) Marxists have considered the economic causes of the War Between the States. So DiLorenzo must be applying Marxist economic analysis.

No. Wrong. Such a charge of guilt by association fails to convince.

Worse, in making such a charge, Owens ignores the fact that DiLorenzo is a prominent expositor of free market economics, by which I mean genuine capitalist, laissez faire, free market economics, as opposed to the “free and regulated” baloney so common in the mainstream today, which is not free market economics at all.

Owens calling DiLorenzo a Marxist is like Owens calling Babe Ruth a figure skater. It is simply a silly characterization.

(By the way, in the last paragraph of the review, Owens mentions that DiLorenzo “writes from a libertarian perspective.” How this is supposed to fit with the earlier charge that DiLorenzo is a Marxist, Owens does not elucidate. And how convenient that the Marxist charge comes in the first paragraph, and the libertarian comment comes at the end).

Contra Claremont ~ “Limbaugh was surprised to hear his callers criticize Abe Lincoln as responsible for the growth of federal power, a racist, and indifferent to the plight of the slaves”

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

Ken Masugi, director of the Claremont Institute‘s Center for Local Government, writes in Claremont Institute Precepts No. 267 that “Long-time fans of Rush Limbaugh‘s provocative radio show experienced a shock in a recent program that focused on Abraham Lincoln.”

It turns out that Limbaugh was surprised to hear his callers criticize Abe Lincoln as responsible for the growth of federal power, a racist, and indifferent to the plight of the slaves.

The discussion, Masugi notes, grew out of advance qualms over Steven “fundraiser to the Clintons” Spielberg’s forthcoming movie on Lincoln. As Masugi observes, the film will allegedly “portray [Lincoln] as a weakling, a racist, and a failure at the presidency.”

Limbaugh and Spielberg aside, what’s the truth about Abraham Lincoln? And what’s the truth about the Confederate States of America and the South?

Allow me to suggest that the truth is quite far from the conventional wisdom. Allow me also to suggest, as indicated by Masugi’s article, that the otherwise praiseworthy Claremont Institute goes too far in its adulation of Lincoln.

The Claremont Institute is “otherwise praiseworthy” because, for example, Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership and the Claremont’s Center for the Study of the Natural Law appear to do good things. Also, Mark Helprin (a very good contemporary novelist, and therefore a rare breed; A Soldier of the Great War is well worth reading) and Hadley Arkes (a natural law theorist whose works I have found insightful) are at Claremont. This article should not be interpreted as anything other that what it is: a criticism of the Claremont Institute’s treatment of Abraham Lincoln and the issue of secession.

The Claremont Institute’s devotion to Lincoln appears deep and widespread. The Institute provides “Abraham Lincoln Fellowships in Constitutional Government” and the Institute’s Salvatori Center for the American Constitution has published a plethora of essays praising Lincoln and attacking the right of secession.

The UN Wildlands Project…Taking Over America Starting With Florida

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

Almost all Americans know about the United Nations, but few know about Agenda 21, or the US government’s implementation of UN policies.

The UN issued several policies at the 1992 Earth Summit, one of which was the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Compliance with this UN policy is being driven and managed by the Wildlands Network which shares the same goals as the CBD; to set aside half the land in America for animals.

But let’s reframe this issue just a bit and put it into perspective; is there any reason you would turn over half of America to Vladimir Putin? What is the difference between living under Putin’s rule or living under UN rule? We are giving the eco-socialists our land (the agencies buy it with our taxes) and we are sliding down the slope to living under UN rule. In Florida, the government has acquired 28% of the land (9.9 million acres), so the UN’s work is already better than 50% done in Florida!

The process of returning land to its wild state is referred to as “re-wilding.” Wildlands are created by buying land, reducing or eliminated human activities and access to the land, and then putting buffer zones around them. Then another wildland is created nearby, and they connect them with more land purchases. AN IMPOSTER AND CRIMINAL GOVERNMENT RESIDES IN WASHINGTON, DC

by Sher Zieve, ©2011

How long will Obama continue his dictatorship? When will enough Americans recognize it?

(Jul. 25, 2011) — To anyone with a functional mind. it is inarguable that Obama has established a dictatorship–replacing the USA’s former Republic–with his own brand of totalitarian dictates (“executive orders and commandments”) that bypass and replace US Constitutional law. For example, Obama could not get his Cap & Trade through Congress, so he bypassed Congress and issued an order declaring the EPA as the regulator for his “electricity-rates-would-necessarily-skyrocket” program. Another was Dictator-in-Chief Obama’s forcing ObamaCare on We-the-People even though a huge majority of Americans did not want it and even protested against it. This was and is merely another Stalin-style program to steal an enormous portion of the US economy and control We-the-People. Obama and his Marxist-Leninist Democrat and RINO Congressional members shoved it down our throats after multiple secret behind-closed-doors meetings. There are dozens of these examples about which we know and I suspect many more about which we are still ignorant.

The Obama syndicate is also a patently criminal organization. The latest example of the Obama-Holder partnership is the “Operation Gunwalker: Fast & Furious” operation. Side Note: I can’t imagine that either Paul Walker and Vin Diesel are pleased with the name.

Our Petulant and Inept President

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

The negotiations about raising the debt ceiling remain extremely fluid, and it’s still too early to draw any definitive conclusions at this stage. But just a week away from the August 2 deadline, a few things do seem clear.

The first is the president’s angry and narcissistic press conference on Friday badly damaged the president, even with those, like David Brooks, who have been sympathetic to Obama’s substantive position.

It’s been clear to some of us for a while that Barack Obama is a man of uncommon self-admiration, quite thin-skinned, and increasingly consumed by his grievances. Obama has masked these traits pretty well so far, but on Friday his mask slipped more than it ever has. And that is bound to hurt him.

Second, Democrats on Capitol Hill are rapidly losing confidence in the president’s competence as a negotiator. Obama’s conduct during the debt ceiling negotiations – from his flip-flops to his irrelevant deadlines to his backtracking on his agreements with various parties – has been so erratic and uneven that his own party has decided the best hope of reaching an agreement is to sideline him.

And third, conservatives in the House, by holding firm rather than folding, have succeeded in shifting the debate away from tax increases, “grand bargains,” and Gang of Six compromises to spending cuts in exchange for an increase in the debt ceiling. How serious those spending cuts are remains to be determined, and there will be enormous pressure for Republicans to agree to Potemkin Village budget cuts, including from GOP appropriators. That pressure needs to be resisted. The cuts Republicans must agree to have to be real.

But there’s little question that so far at least, this whole messy debt ceiling episode has not helped President Obama politically (his approval ratings continue to slide). That may be one reason why he is instructing Majority Leader Reid to push for a deal that moves the next debt ceiling debate to after the 2012 election.

The president and his team entered these negotiations believing he could strike a grand bargain that would allow him to present himself as a born-again budget cutter, as fiscally responsible, as a Man of the Center. And in the process, he kept instructing us, he would emerge as the only adult in the room. At this juncture, it looks like Obama is the most adolescent, even childish, figure in the negotiations – a petulant man who also happens to be an inept negotiator.

This isn’t what the president and his supporters expected. But of course, that could be said for his entire presidency. Barack Obama, we were told by not a few liberals, would be America’s next Lincoln or FDR. It turns out with every passing day, he more and more resembles James Earl Carter . This is very bad news for our nation and very bad news for the Democratic Party.

Obama: I’d Like ‘to Bypass Congress and Change the Rules on My Own’

July 25, 2011 1 comment

President Obama let his frustration over the stalled debt talks seep into an address on Latino issues on Monday, confessing that he’d like to “bypass Congress and change the laws on my own.”

He told the National Council of La Raza, “Believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting. I promise you.”

But he told the group meeting at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel that he has to work with Congress and will continue to fight for what he called a “balanced” plan that does not focus solely on spending cuts but that spreads the sacrifice to the wealthiest Americans as well.

La Raza—and activist Latinos elsewhere—are disappointed in the president for not keeping his promise to champion comprehensive immigration reform in his first year in office. They are particularly angry that his administration has been aggressive in deporting undocumented immigrants, but the president defended the record number of deportations, contending he has had no choice.

“Those are the laws on the books,” said Obama. “I swore an oath to uphold the laws on the books. That doesn’t mean I don’t know very well the real pain and heartbreak that deportations cause.”

He added that he shares the concerns of Latinos. “I understand them and I promise you we are responding to your concerns and working every day to make sure we are enforcing flawed laws in the most humane and best possible way.”

His ”I’d like to change” comment followed a section in his speech that mentioned the limitations of Washington in stopping deportations. He then spoke of his frustrations in dealing with Congress. His ”bypass Congress” comment drew applause and chants of “Yes, You Can,” a 2008 campaign slogan.

A Right-Wing Monster

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

For many years, a quiz entitled “Al Gore or the Unabomber?” circulated on conservative Web sites. The quiz juxtaposed passages from the former vice president’s eco-manifesto “Earth in the Balance” with quotes from Theodore Kaczynski’s critiques of industrial civilization and asked the reader to guess which writer was which. Was it the bearded hermit who hailed “isolated pockets of resistance fighters” for struggling against modern society’s “assault on the earth”? No, that would be the former vice president. Was it Kaczynski, the mathematics Ph.D. turned mad bomber, who complained about the “destructive” impact of bringing a child into “the hugely consumptionist way of life so common in the industrial world”? No, Gore again.

Enterprising left-wing bloggers have already begun to play a similar game with Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian man who apparently justified last week’s mass murder of helpless teenage campers with a 1,500-page “compendium” calling for a right-wing revolution against Europe’s ruling class. Judging by the manifesto’s contents, Breivik has roughly the same relationship to the cultural right that Kaczynski had to certain strains of environmentalism. The darkest aspects of his ideology belong strictly to the neo-fascist fringe. But many of his beliefs and arguments echo the rhetoric of mainstream cultural conservatives, in Europe and America alike.

Despite what the Norwegian authorities suggested over the weekend, those beliefs probably aren’t a form of Christian fundamentalism. Breivik’s writings bear no resemblance to the theology of a Jerry Falwell or an Oral Roberts, and his nominal Christianity (“I guess I’m not an excessively religious man,” he writes at one point) seems to be more of an expression of European identity politics and anti-Islamic chauvinism than any genuine religious fervor.

Obama’s ineligibility: Prepare to defend America – Death of the Democratic Party

Obama’s ineligibility:

Prepare to defend America – Death of the Democratic Party:

“There is now only the most tenuous of threads, if that at all, connecting the American people to the present government. The people are ready to rebel.

The truth about Obama’s birth certificate will soon be disclosed. That will be followed by a flood of revelations about his past, which will send political shock waves throughout the nation.

The American people will then take out their vengeance on the political establishment and the main stream media. We will demand justice and the truth.

The Democratic Party will collapse and its leaders will be tried and sent to prison. Many Republicans will follow them.

A new political movement will be required to drain the cesspool that is now Washington, D.C.

No more socialism, multiculturalism and political correctness. No more big government and open borders. No more pandering to special interests. No more corruption. No more lies. No more spin.

It is time to put an end to the permanent political class. Obama’s coming downfall will expose the entire crooked system.”

63% Oppose Giving Women, Minorities Special Treatment When It Comes to Hiring

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

Just over one-in-five Likely U.S. Voters (22%) now support government programs that give special treatment when hiring to women and minorities.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 63% oppose programs that give hiring preference to women and minorities. That’s up eight points from 55% a year ago. Fifteen percent (15%) are not sure about them.

When asked specifically about “affirmative action programs” in general without any further description, 26% of voters favor them, while 45% are opposed. Thirty percent (30%) are undecided.

A plurality (46%) of voters believes affirmative action programs discriminate against white men, but 31% disagree. Twenty-three percent (23%) are not sure.

Still, just 10% think affirmative action programs have been a success. Twenty-five percent (25%) rate them as a failure, while 60% feel they fall somewhere in between success and failure.

Male voters are much more critical of affirmative action programs than women are, although a majority (56%) of female voters also oppose government programs that give women and minorities hiring preference.

Seventy-four percent (74%) of black voters favor government programs that give special treatment to women and minorities. Sixty-nine percent (69%) of whites and 66% of voters of other races oppose these programs.

Voters’ renewed anger at Washington spurs formation of third-party advocate groups

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

The numbers are startling.

……Given all of the above, advocates of a third party — or at the very least another viable option in the 2012 presidential race — seem to be sprouting up all over.

[snip]

The two most prominent are Americans Elect, a group aimed at winning ballot access for an eventual third-party candidate, and No Labels, an organization filled with high-profile names — including former George W. Bush media consultant Mark McKinnon and former Kentucky state treasurer Jonathan Miller — designed as an online home for the politically disaffected. “If you build it (ballot access), they (candidates and voters) will come,” McKinnon said in an e-mail.

No Labels says it advocates for bipartisan solutions to problems and not a third-party presidential candidate

[snip]

“I think you need an appealing big name, an experienced candidate to capture people’s imagination and for the movement to organize around,” said Mark Salter, a longtime aide to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and a member of No Labels.

What would that candidate look like? “A sane, experienced [Ross] Perot,” Salter said.

[snip]

The only name mentioned who fits Salter’s “sane [and] experienced” description is New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I), although it’s hard to imagine what exactly Bloomberg’s support base would look like in a national race. Businessman Donald Trump, who recently said he might run as an independent, doesn’t meet the Salter standard.

So although the climate is ripe for a third-party candidacy, it’s not at all clear that such a campaign would function as anything other than a spoiler for one of the two parties’ nominees…

BREAKING NEWS: Obama Reaction To Norway Massacre Betrays US “War on Terror” Fundamentalism

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

Within hours of Norway’s deadly bomb and gun attacks claiming at least 91 victims it has become clear that the horror was perpetrated by a Norwegian loner with rightwing Christian fundamentalist affiliations.

Yet President Barack Obama reacted immediately to the news of the atrocity to insinuate an Islamic connection and to justify America’s war on terror.

Obama spoke on Friday while hosting New Zealand Prime Minister John Key in the White House.

The US President said of the attacks: “It’s a reminder that the entire international community has a stake in preventing this kind of terror from occurring, and that we have to work co-operatively together both on intelligence and in terms of prevention of these kinds of horrible attacks.”

Prime Minister Key added: “If it is an act of global terrorism I think it shows that no country, large or small, is immune from that risk, and that is why New Zealand plays its part in Afghanistan as we try and join others like the United States in making the world a safer place,” he said.

On Friday evening local time, 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik was captured by police moments after he went on a two-hour shooting rampage at a youth summer camp, killing at least 84 people, most of whom were aged between 14 and 18.

Hundreds of teenagers had gathered on the island of Otoeya, about 20 miles northwest of the capital, Oslo, for an annual summer camp organised by the Scandinavian country’s ruling Labour party.

Six-foot blond-haired Breivik was heavily armed and dressed as a policeman when he………………

Is ‘fix’ in to sink ratings for Rush, Savage, other conservatives?

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

At the beginning of this year, a rash of stories popped up in liberal media, promising that the death of conservative talk radio was imminent – and this time, the critics of hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage insisted, they had the hard numbers to prove it.

The critics had latched onto a story that appeared in Crain’s New York Business (a subscription-only newsletter), which announced: “A new Arbitron report shows Rush Limbaugh’s ratings down 33 percent from a year ago and Sean Hannity down 28 percent over the same time period.”

“Is right-wing talk dying?” John Avlon asked hopefully at The Daily Beast.

“Are we sick of Rush Limbaugh yet”? Alex Pareene asked at Salon.com, adding gleefully, “We might be!”

Find out amazing, behind-the-scenes information that the doctor of democracy never talks about on the air in “Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One,” direct from WND!

But how exactly did Rush Limbaugh lose one-third of his audience over 12 months?

According to Pareene and others, the answer was a 2008 change in how ratings-tracker Arbitron determines listenership, away from the survey system to the Portable People Meter.

The survey system worked like this: At the end of each day, a small number of designated “diarists” wrote down which shows they’d listened to. Listeners sent those diaries to Arbitron, where numbers were crunched and ratings revealed.

A few years ago, Arbitron began phasing out diaries and brought in the Portable People Meters, or PPMs. These pager-sized devices automatically record whatever their wearers hear as they go about their day. No need to rely upon fallible human memories, or worry about diarists “fudging” their feedback or forgetting to send it in.

The PPM sounded like the accurate, scientific ratings system sponsors and programmers always hoped would be invented.

Until the first batch of ratings came in, showing conservative talk going strong and certain, urban and minority programs far lower than ever calculated before.

Faced with the new numbers, community leaders suddenly turned on the PPMs, blasting the new system as “racist.”

Or at least they were, until Arbitron was pressured by powerful political forces to “fix” its new ratings system.

Obama’s Intent to Gut the Military

July 25, 2011 Leave a comment

President Obama continues to push the notion that he wants a “balanced approach” to budget cuts, but it is becoming increasingly clear that the only spending cuts he is willing to contemplate are cuts in defense spending. The vast entitlement system that now eats the majority of tax dollars is, by contrast, not only on his list of programs to be sustained, but expanded. Mr. Obama seems determined to protect the welfare state. He lacks the courage and the candor to admit to the unsustainablity of an entitlement system which has pushed the nation to the brink of insolvency as our debts continue to mount. Instead of addressing the source of the spending problems, it is becoming clear that Mr. Obama intends to hollow out the military. What folly!

Only weeks ago, Obama signaled intentions to cut $400 billion from Defense, but key Democrats are already talking about even large cuts of $1 trillion to Defense. Such a move would signal a broad American retreat from the world and erode our national defense for many years to come. Obama’s military budget shenanigans are yet another reminder that the key characteristic of Obama’s involvement in any aspect of U.S. life–economics, policies or participation on the world scene—is that Obama’s policies have left Americans with a weaker world presence as a result of his involvement.

Military spending is an area which, traditionally, in past years, Dems have loved to cut. Democrat eagerness to cut military spending is the result of a fundamental, ideological difference: the GOP believes the U.S. is served best by a strong military, both at home and abroad, while Dems believe that a more kumbaya, we-are-the-world, approach is the way to best protect America. Obama, who first launched his apologize-to-the-world tour on this premise, has never been a keen supporter of endeavors military. Obama’s recent threats, that our veterans might not receive their retirement and disability checks if a debt ceiling-budget compromise is not reached by 2 August, just prove that point.

It seems clear that the $100 billion in defense cuts proposed in the FY2012 budget are merely the tip of the iceberg. Further cuts will likely be proposed because the budget dollars for defense are so big and because cutting in this area will appease at least one faction of the Dems ideological extremist base.

The Gang of Six proposal called for almost trillion dollars ($886 billion) in cuts from defense. Others have proposed that some direct cuts could come from canceling air craft carrier construction (not surprisingly, the Dems have pointed to the USS George H.W. Bush) as one of the possible candidates for cancelation.

Other proposals include the reduction of U.S. troops in Europe and Asia, as well as at home. Others propose to implement cuts to military health care, reduce the U.S. nuclear arsenal and reduce the military research and development efforts and even revise the military pay and compensation scale.

Certainly, any of these proposals would reduce the amount of military spending, and thus reduce overall federal spending, but we would be weaker as a nation as a result. George Washington said: “A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well-digested plan is requisite.” Obama seeks to render our military neither well-armed nor well-planned which calls into question our nation’s ability to remain a free people for long.

Meanwhile, over at NASA, the U.S. space program has, essentially, been canceled. Instead of pushing the agency to focus on its core mission and core competencies, Obama has allowed NASA to take itself out of the space business, and thus take the country out of space for the next 30 years. NASA’s reduction of mission will result in thousands of jobs lost” as contractors for the shuttle program begin to lay off workers.”

Worse, to put a man in space, America will now be required to pay Russia for shuttle space. Not too surprisingly, Russia has already stepped forward and declared that the next decade will be “the era of the Soyuz” as Russian space exploration continues.

The next U.S. president will inherit an economic disaster of a country on an epic scale, courtesy of the bungling of Obama, and his team of advisors, whose repeated efforts to stimulate the economy through government subsidies and increased regulation that punishes small business owners, has failed to yield significant growth in the economy or in jobs. The next president, courtesy of Obama’s bungling, will also face a monumental, uphill task to restore the superior force and prestige of our military at home and abroad. For that, a new president, who believes in our country and believes in American exceptionalism is mandatory.

November 2012 cannot come soon enough.

Obama: FDR Was ‘Fiscally Conservative’

July 25, 2011 1 comment

College Park, Md. (CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama said that Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) – the president best known for establishing a welfare and regulatory state in America – was “fiscally conservative,” in response to a question about how to keep the economy going.

Obama was referring to spending-cut measures Roosevelt took in the middle of the New Deal that lasted from 1933 to 1940.

“FDR comes in, he tries all these things with the New Deal; but FDR, contrary to myth, was pretty fiscally conservative,” the president said Friday during a town hall meeting on the campus of the University of Maryland.

“And so after the initial efforts of the New Deal and it looked like the economy was growing again, FDR then presented a very severe austerity budget,” Obama continued. “And suddenly, in 1937, the economy started going down again. And, ultimately, what really pulled America out of the Great Depression was World War II.”

Obama used this to illustrate why the political leaders should tread carefully in cutting the deficit.

“Some have said, I think rightly, that we’ve got to be careful that any efforts we have to reduce the deficit don’t hamper economic recovery, because the worst thing we can do for the deficit is continue to have really bad growth or another recession,” Obama said.

He has refused to disclose them. So it’s, Oh! Who cares about them? “He had to do well to become editor and chief of the Harvard Law Review,” they chirp. Actually, he was the president of the HLR, and he was appointed to that position. It couldn’t be because of his great record in the Illinois Senate. He never initiated a bill and merely voted a majority of times “present.” It couldn’t be because of his support for Israel throughout the years.

He was close friends with Louis Farrakhan, Father Pfleger and Rashid Khalidi, and he attended the meetings of Palestinian radicals in Chicago.

Norway mass killer wants time in court to tell why

July 24, 2011 1 comment

(Reuters) – Anders Behring Breivik wants to tell Norway and the World why he killed at least 93 people in a bomb attack and shooting rampage when he appears in court on Monday, his lawyer said.

Calling himself a crusader against a tide of Islam in a rambling 1,500-page online manifesto, the 32-year-old mass murderer wants the opportunity to explain actions he deemed “atrocious, but necessary”.

Lawyer Geir Lippestad said his client had admitted to Friday’s shootings at a Labor youth camp and a bomb that killed seven people in Oslo‘s government district, but that he denies any criminal guilt.

“He has been politically active and found out himself that he did not succeed with usual political tools and so resorted to violence,” Lippestad told TV2 news.

“I await a medical assessment of him,” he said.

July 24, 2011 Leave a comment

A Tennessee judge set a tentative October trial date for the long-running legal battle over the estate of the late country star Jim Reeves, who died in 1964.

At issue is a dispute over millions of dollars of past and future royalties from Reeves’ body of work, which includes “Four Walls” and a bevy of other hits from the “Nashville sound” school of country music from the 1950s and 1960s.

The (Nashville) Tennessean said Sunday the Nashville Seventh Circuit Court ruled that the case would be decided based on the interpretation of a 1976 will written by Reeves’ widow, Mary Reeves Davis. The ruling eliminated a later will that left everything to preacher Terry Davis.

Attorney Ames Davis, who represents Mary Reeves’ estate, told the newspaper the case was unusual, but not uncommon.

“It’s been never ending,” Davis said. “It has involved half the attorneys in Nashville, but it’s not uncommon when you have a dispute among heirs about significant sums of money.”

The Tennessean said the battle basically boils down to a 1976 will designating family members as the beneficiaries of the estate. But in 1996, Mary Reeves sold the entire estate, including the royalty rights to Reeves’ music, to carnival executive Ed Gregory.

Gregory went bankrupt in 2002, allegedly owing $6 million to Mrs. Reeves, who died in 1999. Her family contends she was not mentally competent when she agreed to the sale.

We Dont Need No Steenking Constitution

The outrages just keep coming from Washington…

WASHINGTON — Debt ceiling negotiators think they’ve hit on a solution to address the debt ceiling impasse and the public’s unwillingness to let go of benefits such as Medicare and Social Security that have been earned over a lifetime of work: Create a new Congress.

This “Super Congress,” composed of members of both chambers and both parties, isn’t mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, but would be granted extraordinary new powers. Under a plan put forth by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his counterpart Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), legislation to lift the debt ceiling would be accompanied by the creation of a 12-member panel made up of 12 lawmakers — six from each chamber and six from each party.

“Super Congress”?

I seem to remember that The Constitution establishes a republican form of government with three branches – Legislative, Judicial and Executive. That it then sets forward two houses in the Legislative branch – a House and a Senate.

I have long (for more than 20 years in fact) argued that we totally screwed the pooch and may have sown the seed of destruction of our republic when we passed the 17th Amendment, in that prior to that time a state could recall a Senator who was doing things the state legislature did not approve of. It thus was impossible for Congress to ram down the state’s throats programs and costs that they were unwilling to absorb on their own. The 17th Amendment is especially perverse in that it is effectively to repeal it without calling a general Constitutional convention, in that to do so senators would have to vote for their own expulsion from the body.

The list of programs intended to destroy state sovereignty has now grown to encompass a quarter or more of most state spending, with the biggest offender being Medicaid. While technically a state can “opt out” of Medicaid should it do so it receives exactly nothing, while all the other states get the money – but with the money come obligations as to how the program is administered and operated.

This occurs despite the fact that the provision of medical care is inherently an intrastate matter – that is, the doctor you see in your state provides that care in an office in a state and the transaction takes place “face-to-face” within a single state. It thus is, at least if you bother with petty little things like The Constitution, an inherently state matter and beyond the reach of the federal government.

Medicaid and Medicare are how the federal government turned feral and effectively took control over all medical care in the United States. Ditto for the FDA and its regulatory functions even for drugs, devices and care provided entirely within the boundaries of a given state.

But now it seems that the fact that The House has suddenly turned into a body where a large group refuse to raise taxes and argue that the ridiculous ramp in spending (some 30% in the last three years) is entirely out of control and must stop, while another large group demand that their “entitlement payments” continue and even escalate now prompts certain people to refuse to face reality: The entire reason we have a people’s House and elect representatives is precisely to prevent tyranny by one group or another!…………………..

Employers, landlords would be banned from using priors in hiring, housing decision

Proponents say that with California under orders to reduce its prison population such a plan is necessary to help former inmates reintegrate and reduce the likelihood of repeat offenses. But others say that business owners have a right to be cautious in order to protect themselves and others.

Similar policies have been implemented by several states and more than twenty local governments across the nation.

San Francisco’s proposal was floated by the city’s Reentry Council — a group that helps adult convicts leaving jail or prison and includes representatives from the District Attorney’s Office, the police department and the sheriff’s department.

Public Defender Jeff Adachi, whose office is also represented on the council, said the panel found that employers and landlords were increasingly using background checks and eliminating candidates with criminal records.

“What we saw then is really a revolving door,” he said. “A person would be released from custody, not be able to secure housing, not be able to find a job and wind up back in the (prison) system.”

One in four adults in California — about 7 million people — has a misdemeanor or felony arrest or conviction record, according to the Reentry Council. And the state is under federal orders to reduce its prison population by more than 20 percent over the next two years.

Adachi said these factors add particular importance to removing barriers to employment and housing.

However, David Wasserman, a board member with the San Francisco Apartment Association, said courts have made it clear that owners are res

America’s Rising Stress Level| The Post & Email: “THE CLINICAL DEFINITION OF STRESS:

“Stress is a term in psychology and biology, first coined in the biological context in the 1930s, which has in more recent decades become a commonplace of popular parlance. It refers to the consequence of the failure of an organism – human or animal – to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats, whether actual or imagined. Stress symptoms commonly include a state of alarm and adrenaline production, short-term resistance as a coping mechanism, and exhaustion, as well as irritability, muscular tension, inability to concentrate and a variety of physiological reactions such as headache and elevated heart rate. (from Wikipedia) Hmmmmm!

A MORE COLLOQUIAL DEFINITION OF STRESS! “Stress is the confusion created when one’s mind overrides the body’s basic desire to choke the living daylights out of some idiot, who desperately deserves it.” (From a Wet Willies “gag” card, with a few revisions to clean it up.) Now that’s more like it!”

Congress ditches Obama on debt talks

July 24, 2011 Leave a comment

First came the Biden talks. When those blew up, the Obama-Boehner talks took center stage. And when that failed, the McConnell-Reid talks looked promising. And after they faltered, the Obama-Boehner talks tried to find a new life.

Now it’s all come down to the Boehner-Reid-Pelosi-McConnell talks to solve the debt crisis. Notably absent? The president.

That’s not to say Saturday’s congressional takeover went well.

In a frantic bid to avoid causing a worldwide economic disruption, debt negotiations have shifted wholly to Capitol Hill, as a frustrated President Barack Obama has taken a step back and allowed House and Senate leaders to try to find a way out of the debt-ceiling debacle. After congressional leaders told Obama at the White House Saturday morning they would attempt to stave off the crisis before Asian markets open Sunday evening, leadership aides raced to put together a framework that both parties could support.

With the president staying out of the picture, congressional leaders struggled to make progress on a temporary two-step solution that raises the debt limit with some offsetting cuts.

In an extraordinary Saturday evening session in the Capitol, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sat around negotiating, on their own turf, without White House aides present.

The Assault Weapons Ban: How Silly Was It? (Part Two)

July 24, 2011 Leave a comment

We know it failed, they know it failed. So what could possibly give the Obama admin and gun-control advocates the confidence to push for it again?

The Washington Post, May 23, 2011:

On March 30, the 30th anniversary of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan, Jim Brady, who sustained a debilitating head wound in the attack, and his wife, Sarah, came to Capitol Hill to push for a ban on the controversial “large magazines.” Brady, for whom the law requiring background checks on handgun purchasers is named, then met with White House press secretary Jay Carney. During the meeting, President Obama dropped in and, according to Sarah Brady, brought up the issue of gun control: “to fill us in that it was very much on his agenda,” she said.

“I just want you to know that we are working on it,” Brady recalled the president telling them. “We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

In every practical respect, the firearms-related provisions of the “assault weapons ban” were an objective failure. But absurd restrictions on firearms weren’t the only part of that legislation that passed only to succumb to an outcome quite different than it’s anti-gun progenitors had in mind.

Along with creating the term “assault weapon,” this Clinton-era law also created the similarly arbitrary term “high-capacity magazine.”

A detachable magazine is a container that holds cartridges for a given firearm, and the number of cartridges typically varied with the size and the purpose of the weapon at hand and the size of the cartridge it fired. Small turn-of-the-century handguns typically carried magazines of just 6-7 cartridges. The standard magazine capacity of many pistols that became popular in the 1980s was 15 rounds or more. The standard capacity of military grade rifles and carbines was 20-30 rounds. As time progressed, firearm designers were finding ways to put a larger number of cartridges in the magazines of their weapons.

When legislators decided that the “assault weapons ban” should also include a restriction on the number of cartridges that any given magazine could hold, they declared that any magazine that held a greater amount of cartridges was a “high capacity” magazine. It didn’t matter to them that many of the firearms in question had as their standard capacity magazines with round counts from 13-30 rounds or more, or that some of these firearms had had such a capacity since before the congressmen and congresswomen writing the law were born.

Congress arbitrarily decided that 10 rounds was “enough” for American citizens, and included provisions that once the law went into effect, any magazine manufactured after the date the law went into effect that had more than ten rounds would be illegal for anything other than law enforcement use.

Like the firearms provisions of the bill, these magazine provisions also had unintended consequences.

As it turns out, firearms magazines are both typically very robust and reliable in design, and incredibly easy to mass manufacture. Once made, they last indefinitely.

Between the time Congress started signaling that they would create a magazine capacity restriction and the implementation of the law, factories worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week churning out millions of nothing but high-capacity magazines, which were stockpiled by manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers in massive warehouses.

As a result, “high capacity magazines” for most common firearms were freely available throughout the life of the ban. As e-commerce came into early maturity during this time period, many high-capacity magazines were more available than they had been before the ban was signed into law.

Betty Freauf — Unusual Weather Patterns Perplexing

July 24, 2011 3 comments

In researching the unusual weather we’ve been hearing about, I’m finding a pattern of government intervention is the cause of many of our problems and well may have begun with HAARP. In the book Angels Don’t Play This HAARP (High frequency Active Auroral Research Program) has 230 fact-filled pages with 400 footnotes written by a leading opponent of this system, Dr. Nick Begich who sounded an alarm how HAARP, initiated in 1992, may be subjecting the ionosphere to a form of scientific madness! The July 2011 Newswatch Newsletter said HAARP is a weather-modification program run by the military. It uses Nikola Tesla’s patents from around the 1900s to divert the jet stream so that one section of the country can be flooded while another has severe drought.

Those not familiar with HAARP may wonder if this book would be displayed in the UFO sightings and alien abductions in the library. I have a cartoon showing animals that were on Noah’s Ark being elevated into the air to some space ship. The caption underneath says, “It’s just been one disaster after another this year…”

“At a remote facility ringed with barbed wire, a brand-new array of 36 antennas rises from the black spruce forest that stretches hundreds of miles across central Alaska,” says Mark Farmer in a 1995 Popular Science magazine article, “Mystery in Alaska.” This little-known Pentagon-sponsored radio-physics project is officially intended to expand knowledge about the nature of long-range radio communications and surveillance using the fluctuating ionosphere, the portion of the upper atmosphere extending from 35 to 500 miles above Earth’s surface but Farmer says that’s just the publicly announced part of the program. HAARP also has a secret agenda: pursuing more exotic military goals, such as locating deeply buried weapons factories thousands of miles away – and even altering the local weather above an enemy’s territory.

HAARP is jointly operated by the U.S. Air Force and Navy and in addition to what is stated above, some claim it……………

Man accused in Norway’s massacre wanted revolution, crusade against Muslims, ‘traitors’

AP/CBS ^ | 7/24/11 | BJOERN AMLAND, SARAH DiLORENZO

Posted on Sunday, July 24, 2011 8:32:42 AM by markomalley

The man blamed for attacks on Norway’s government headquarters and a youth retreat that left at least 92 dead said he was motivated by a desire to bring about a revolution in Norwegian society, his lawyer said Sunday. A manifesto that he is believed to have written ranted against Muslim immigration to Europe and vowed revenge on “indigenous Europeans” who he accused of betraying their heritage.

Although lawyer for the 32-year-old Norwegian suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, said his client acted alone, police conducted raids on a garage and sheds in an industrial neighborhood of eastern Oslo, said police officer Kjell Bjerklund.

Survivors of the mass shooting on Utoya island that killed at least 85 young people reported seeing two assailants, and police have said they were looking into those accounts and had not ruled out a second suspect. Another seven people were killed in Friday’s bombing in an Oslo government building.

In all, 92 people were killed and 97 wounded. There are still people missing at both scenes. Six hearses pulled up at the shore of the lake surrounding the island on Sunday, as rescuers on boats continued to search for bodies in the water. Body parts remain inside the Oslo building, which housed the prime minister’s office.

A manifesto published online — which police are poring over and said was posted the day of the attack — ranted that the European elite, “multiculturalists” and “enablers of Islamization” would be punished for their “treasonous acts.” Police have not confirmed that Breivik wrote the document, but his lawyer referred to it and said Breivik had been working on it for years.

The treatise ends with a detailed description of the plot, ending with a note dated 12:51 p.m. on July 22: “I believe this will be my last entry.”

The Daily Bell – Edwin Vieira, Jr. on the Power Elite, the Police State and Opposing the Authoritarian Trend

July 24, 2011 Leave a comment

Introduction: Dr. Vieira holds four degrees from Harvard: A.B. (Harvard College), A.M. and Ph.D. (Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences), and J.D. (Harvard Law School). For over thirty-six years he has been a practicing attorney, specializing in cases that raise issues of constitutional law. He has presented numerous cases of import before the Supreme Court and written numerous monographs and articles in scholarly journals. His latest scholarly works are Constitutional “Homeland Security” (2007), a proposal to begin the revitalization of the constitutional Militia of the several states; Pieces of Eight: The Monetary Powers and Disabilities of the United States Constitution (2d rev. ed. 2002), a comprehensive study of American monetary law and history viewed from a constitutional perspective; and How to Dethrone the Imperial Judiciary (2004), an analysis of the problems of irresponsible “judicial supremacy”, and how to deal with them. With well known libertarian trader Victor Sperandeo, he is also the co-author (under a nom de plume) of the political novel CRA$HMAKER: A Federal Affaire (2000), a not-so-fictional story of an engineered “crash” of the Federal Reserve System, and the political revolution it causes. He is now working on an extensive project concerned with the constitutional “Militia of the Several States” and “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms.”

Daily Bell: Thanks for sitting down with us again. We’ve interviewed you before and are always struck by your clarity and eloquence. In this interview we want to make some declarative statements, if you don’t mind, and then have you respond. These are very “tough” questions by the way, and we don’t mind at all if you disagree or do not wish to discuss them. Wouldn’t be the first time and we wouldn’t blame you a bit. Anyway, we’ll start with a couple of basic questions … What’s the single-most critical problem facing America right now? We think it’s America’s growing militarism and authoritarianism.

Edwin Vieira, Jr: I agree. The elaboration of a national para-military police state is the most dangerous development in recent times. The likelihood of a crash of the Federal Reserve System in hyperinflation is critical, too. But if that event occurs (as it probably will), the response of the power-structure will not be to correct the situation, but instead to impose the worst kind of third-world “austerity” on this country, in order to salvage the financial system at the expense of Mr. and Mrs. America. As most average Americans will not accept savage cuts in their standard of living gracefully, “austerity” will have to be rammed down their throats with police batons. Which, as far as I can tell, is the main, if not the only reason for the Department of Homeland Security.

Of course, I was predicting all this YEARS ago, to those who read my columns at

ROLLING THUNDER AND GENERAL LEE

Like sentries standing silent – Guarding a king or queen -

A carpet of green surrounds them – Muffling the foot falls at the scene -

School children on a tour – Are told of soldiers still unknown -

Guided by an Old Guard Soldier – Speaking in a somber tone -

Up the road brave Marines – Raise the flag on a granite mount -

Just above the Black Wall – To a War, some don’t count -

Just above sits Abe Lincoln – What would he think of us today? -

What would he think of a country – Where school children no longer pray -

A spire above the Capital – Washington looks down on the dome -

If he was still Commander-in-Chief – Could he bring the lost sons home? -

Down the road the sound of hoof beats – Boots in the saddle turned around -

Another soldier laid to rest – The bugle makes a mournful sound -

The rows of white stone sentries – Seems to straighten at Taps -

Homeless veterans stand erect – Then slowly doff their caps -

Down at the eternal flame – The hats of every service lay -

Because it is for Kennedy – There is also a Green Beret -

Utopia? Hardly ~ “Disturbingly, the man who warned of an American Napoleon became the American Napoleon”

July 23, 2011 Leave a comment

Disturbingly, the man who warned of an American Napoleon became the American Napoleon.

Which brings me to a personal confession: Joe Sobran has softened my thinking on Lincoln. When I came to study the Civil War, and study it in-depth, over eight years, it occurred to me that, truly, the conflict is more properly named the War for Southern Independence. The Northern view of the war which I had been spoon-fed in school parrots the earlier English view of the colonial (American) War of Independence — right down to laughing at the notion that the relevant rebels could possibly claim to be fighting for freedom, merely because of the issue of slavery. By the way, the English figured things out the second time around — and rooted for the Confederacy. In that regard, see Sheldon Vanauken‘s The Glittering Illusion.

This Anglo-Northern myth is exactly that — a myth. Because it is false at worst, biased and incomplete at best, the telling and perpetuation of this counterfeit tale merits correction. In short, this descendent of a Federal army soldier was enraged to find injustice hiding behind a veil of justice. Sobran, however, has a point in arguing that, rather than see Lincoln merely as a villain, it may be appropriate to view Lincoln as a tragic, Oxfordian (you might say Shakespearean) figure.

But back to Hummel’s essential point: the war against the Confederacy fundamentally changed the USA. The prosecution of the war turned the USA from an unobtrusive, small government into an intrusive, bloated monstrosity. When the USA forcibly re-absorbed the CSA, this “wonderful” system — now beyond reproach to “neo”-conservatives (maybe “conservatives” should be in quotation marks, rather than the neo) — became not only mandatory, but, according to the Northern theory still dominant today — inescapable.

Be Very Wary Of Perry

July 23, 2011 1 comment

There has been much buzz about the possibility that Texas Governor Rick Perry will throw his hat into the GOP presidential ring. Many conservatives and Tea Party activists see him as a very attractive and viable candidate, one who would liven up a field that seems devoid of exciting prospects.

But before Republicans start salivating too heavily, it is important to examine Perry closely. His conservative bonafides leave much to be desired.

Let’s examine his record.

Prior to 1989, Rick Perry was a Democrat, who supported Al Gore for president. Perry was Gore’s campaign manager in the state of Texas that year.

As Governor of Texas, Perry would have us believe he is a small government guy. But the facts say other wise.

Total spending in Texas the year he became governor in 2000 was approximately $49 billion. Last year it was approximately $90 billion. That is hardly reducing the size of government over a 10 year period.

The total debt of the state of Texas has more than doubled since he became governor. The debt to GDP ratio in Texas is 22.9% and the debt per citizen is $10,645. That’s worse than California.

Perry claims he is for keeping taxes low. Not true. He has raised taxes repeatedly during his tenure as governor. Texans have higher taxes and fees than they had before he was elected.

While everyone lauded Perry’s leadership by pointing to the low unemployment rate in the Lone Star State, it should be noted that 23 states have a lower unemployment rate than Texas. And Texas has the highest percentage of workers making minimum wage out of all 50 states. In 2007, 221,000 residents of Texas were making minimum wage or less. By 2010, that number had risen to 550,000.

The education system in Texas is abysmal. Barbara Bush, in an op-ed piece in the Houston Chronicle, wrote:

•  We rank 36th in the nation in high school graduation rates. An estimated 3.8 million Texans do not have a high school diploma. •  We rank 49th in verbal SAT scores, 47th in literacy and 46th in average math SAT scores. •  We rank 33rd in the nation on teacher salaries.

What does that say about the stewardship of Rick Perry with regard to education?

Rick Perry also claims to have a tough stance on illegal immigration. But the facts indicate otherwise.

He signed the DREAM Act in 2001, giving in-state tuition to undocumented students. Perry said at the time, “We must say to every child learning in a Texas classroom, ‘We don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there”. This measure is similar to the one the Democrats are pushing at the federal level, one which conservatives vehemently oppose.

Perhaps the biggest issue people opposed to the nanny state should be concerned about is Perry’s issuance of an executive order back in 2007 that would have forced almost every single girl in the state of Texas to receive the Gardasil vaccine before entering the sixth grade. Perry was in the tank with Merck. There were apparent financial connections between Merck and Perry reported by news outlets, such as a $6,000 campaign contribution and Merck’s hiring of former Perry Chief of Staff Mike Toomey to handle its Texas lobbying work.

The Texas legislature put the kibosh on that idea by crafting a bill that overturned the executive order.

Subsequently, very serious safety issues with the vaccine came to light. The biggest problem with regard to the Gardasil issue was that Perry appeared to be condoning premarital sex, or at least assuming that middle school girls were going to be engaging in sexual activity, which is the only way that the cervical cancer that the vaccine prevents can be contracted. Many parents and conservatives were justifiably outraged.

When one takes into account these facts about Rick Perry, the only conclusion that can be reached is that Perry is for the expansion of government and its intrusion into our lives.

On Perry’s possible run for the White House? No thanks. I think I’ll pass.

TV 2 know that the 32-year-old terror accused Oslo man has confessed to having published the material on the web. There are sources in the police confirming this to the TV 2

Anders Behring Breivik (32) Prior to the attacks, published a long manifesto and a video on the Internet, where he describes the attacks he was about to perform.

The video and document

It is about more than twelve minutes long video, which Behring Brevik compare themselves with Knights, and encourage a year-long war against Marxism and Islamism.

He has also published a manuscript of 1,500 pages which he explains very extreme political views. In addition, he describes in detail how an attack to be carried out. Everything from the use of the car bomb of the type of equipment to be used in an attack.

On an image that has not previously been known pose the seemingly Anders Behring Breivik in a diving suit with what looks like an automatic rifle. On his shoulder he has a badge that says “Marxist Hunter.”

In the document, which is over 1500 pages the author elaborates on events throughout history and will repeatedly return to the Knights Templar, or Knights Templar as they say in English.

Oh, Sweet Irony: FLOTUS Will Not Be Pleased

July 23, 2011 Leave a comment

I am truly, truly tickled with this one. This may be the most exquisitely beautiful illustration of irony I have ever witnessed in my lifetime.

President Obama, try as he might, just cannot improve upon our horribly sluggish economy and thinks that bringing down millionaires, billionaires, and big corporations with more taxes will provide the answer (he may want to reconsider those Keynesian economics at some point). First Lady Obama has been trying her darndest to eradicate America‘s childhood obesity epidemic, lecturing on healthy nutrition habits with her “Let’s Move!” campaign. Husband and wife both have some grand ambitions, but often find themselves frustrated in the execution.

So, in this terribly faltering economy, what company is doing terribly well? Oh yes: the original all-American junk food corporation, McDonald’s.

McDonald’s Corp.’s (MCD) second-quarter net income rose 15%, as the burger chain says it continues to build momentum, despite the economic headwinds challenging the fast-food industry.

McDonald’s expects 4% to 5% growth globally in July same-store sales, which includes sales at restaurants that have been open at least 13 months, even if temporarily closed during that time. The summer boost follows a 5.6% global same-store sales increase in the second quarter, led by strong results in June.

Shares of McDonald’s reached an all-time high Friday, trading up 3.2% to $89.29, and were up 21% over the past year through Thursday’s close.

McDonald’s has consistently outperformed the industry during and since the recession.

This is so preposterously perfect, I can hardly stand it – and it hurts so good.

(Jul. 23, 2011) — The following request is being sent to Hawaii Department of Health Director Loretta J. Fuddy with a copy to the Hawaii Office of Information Practices:

July 23, 2011

Ms. Loretta J. Fuddy, A.C.S.W., M.P.H.

Director, Hawaii Department of Health

1250 Punchbowl St.

Honolulu, Hawaii 96813

Dear Ms. Fuddy:

On July 15, 2011, a resident of Oregon called the office of Assistant Attorney General Jill T. Nagamine and was told that she was “on leave” and that you had “left the island.” While those statements might have been true, I would like to ascertain it for myself. Therefore, under Hawaii’s UIPA law, Chapter 92F of the Hawaii Revised Statutes, I am requesting a copy of your public work calendar for the time period July 11 through August 8, 2011.

There has been a report that you were in your office in Honolulu the week of July 18 and that you have a full schedule there the week of July 25, 2011. Perhaps you were away the week of July 11 when the inquiry was made.

Forewarned Is Forearmed… “What we are about to witness is already starting to unfold before our very eyes. The intensely vitriolic demonization of…”

July 23, 2011 1 comment

”If their goal had been to absolutely destroy America, everything Barack Hussein Obama has done might be considered a resounding success. We’ll assume for the sake of this discussion, on this day, that this was not their goal.”

One year ago at this time the Democrats and their über liberal, socialist progressive extremist fringe, were a scant handful of major legislative items and a few presidential pronouncements (Hussein’s executive orders have taken on the tone of despotic fiats lately) away from reducing what was once the greatest nation in the history of mankind to a Third World banana republic.

A funny thing happened on the way to the fundamental transformation of America promised us all by His Presumptuous Eminence. The sleeping giant awoke. The silent majority found their voice. The Tea Party was born, and America will never be the same. Or should I say, and America now has a chance to remain the same. The same shining beacon of freedom and prosperity to the rest of a beleaguered world which it has held forth as for the past 2+ centuries.

November of 2010, while a surprisingly good month for America’s patriots and constitutional conservatives, was pretty much Waterloo for Obama, his lapdog media and the Marxists, tax cheats, militant homosexuals and domestic terrorists which round out the bulk of his cabal. A virtual tidal wave of Tea Party-backed Representatives swept into the House and swept out the Democrat stranglehold on America’s future as a sovereign constitutional republic.

Most sitting presidents facing a general election will pulled together a team to start assembling the list of kept campaign promises and legislative successes which have contributed both to the well-being of the state of the union and to the reelection chances of that pol. Unfortunately for Mr. Obama, his list is one of unkept campaign promises and badly failed administrative ministrations which he could not use were he trying to be reelected as dog catcher.

Well over two years into his first term, his promise to close Guantánamo rings hollow in the ears of the faithful. His oft’ repeated promise to slash the deficit by 50% in his first term sits as a yawning gulf of credibility between him and his constituents. His sworn commitment to going through “the budget” line by line with a scalpel, carving out all needless waste sits in the same trash heap with his other promises. In fact, his party haven’t even passed a budget in over 800 days. His promise to remove the troops from Iraq and Afghanistan turned into an increase in the troops in Afghanistan and a new military action against Libya, absent the constitutionally mandated congressional approval.

His feckless attempts to have an impact on the economy, to be generous, have not turned out as he likely would have hoped. While I remain unconvinced of its absolute veracity, I would like to believe that the Class Warrior In Chief had not intended to completely derail any hope of financial recovery with his ridiculous spending, massive expansion of the federal government, and repeated suggestions that we raise taxes in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Nonetheless, that remains a discussion for another day… albeit a discussion that we will have. If their goal had been to absolutely destroy America, everything Barack Hussein Obama has done might be considered a resounding success. We’ll assume for the sake of this discussion on this day that that was not their goal.

Suffice to say, as this president faces the coming 2012 election, with The Tea Party snapping at his heels, and their Femme Politicale, Sarah Palin, poised to make mincemeat of his attempts to be given four more years with which to destroy this country, Obama most certainly cannot rely upon those stratagem traditionally employed by past presidents. As he is wont, Obama will have to devise a new and different game plan.

Based upon the fact that his first two successful bids for elected office were given wing by the fact that he succeeded in having his opposition removed from the ballots, we have a pretty good indication of the direction the Teleprompter in Chief will take this cycle.

First, we can count on him using the Ted Kennedy ploy, affected with such great success during his tenure as “The Lion of the Senate.” It traces its roots back to “Law School 101,” which goes like this:

“If you have the facts on your side, hammer the facts. If you have the law on your side, hammer the law. If you have neither the facts nor the law, hammer the table.”

What we are about to witness is already starting to unfold before our very eyes. The intensely vitriolic demonization of…………………..

The Truth About My Trip To Hanoi (Jane Fonda lies about her treason)

July 23, 2011 Leave a comment

I grew up during World War II. My childhood was influenced by the roles my father played in his movies. Whether Abraham Lincoln or Tom Joad in the Grapes of Wrath, his characters communicated certain values which I try to carry with me to this day. I remember saying goodbye to my father the night he left to join the Navy. He didn’t have to. He was older than other servicemen and had a family to support but he wanted to be a part of the fight against fascism, not just make movies about it. I admired this about him. I grew up with a deep belief that wherever our troops fought, they were on the side of the angels.

For the first 8 years of the Vietnam War I lived in France. I was married to the French film director, Roger Vadim and had my first child. The French had been defeated in their own war against Vietnam a decade before our country went to war there, so when I heard, over and over, French people criticizing our country for our Vietnam War I hated it. I viewed it as sour grapes. I refused to believe we could be doing anything wrong there.

It wasn’t until I began to meet American servicemen who had been in Vietnam and had come to Paris as resisters that I realized I needed to learn more. I took every chance I could to meet with U.S. soldiers. I talked with them and read the books they gave me about the war. I decided I needed to return to my country and join with them—active duty soldiers and Vietnam Veterans in particular—to try and end the war.

Boehner runs laps around Obama, again

July 23, 2011 Leave a comment

He’s been ridiculed by the media. Liberal spinners say he has lost control over the Tea Party. But in fact the Speaker of the House Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) had a plan, stuck to it, and is likely to get much of what he wants.

In a remarkable press conference revealed that he had a deal with the White House on large debt reduction and $800 billion in additional revenue to be achieved through tax reform and enhanced enforcement. Boehner brought out his “Jell-O” analogy once again to describe the White House. He said bluntly, “It’s the president who walked away from his agreement and demanded more money at the last minute.”

Boehner is the composed “adult in the room” now. He, excuse the expression, called the president’s bluff — a viable deal with no tax hikes and Obama blinked (or sloshed in the other direction, to follow the Jell-O imagery).

All of this followed Obama’s appearance in which he angrily accused Boehner of walking away from the deal. (According to Boehner, Obama upped the revenue figure at the last moment.)

Boehner now has left the White House on the sidelines, has his troops in order and can craft a deal with the Senate. At this point, the Senate Democrats who have never put forth a plan of any type must be desperate for a deal…..

I don’t know about you, but I always thought that it was an act of treason to intentionally undermine the Constitution. I also thought that intentionally committing acts that economically cripple the country, thus rendering her incapable of defending herself or standing as a sovereign nation was also treason. And doing this at a time when the country is, rightfully or wrongfully, at war, thus, giving aid and comfort to our enemies, in my never humble opinion, leaves no doubt that this is treason.

Since the Democrats gained an unstoppable, lock-step majority in Washington, we have seen nearly a daily occurrence of unconstitutional legislation being passed by Congress and signed by the “president.” In the process, they took a deficit of some four-hundred billion dollars, and nearly quadrupled it in two years, by borrowing and “spending” like crack addicts, and leaving the American people, for generations to come, to foot the bill. I put quotation marks around the word spending, because much of what they did with our money was simply cash pay-outs to fat-cat, neo-fascist Democrat bankers, brokers, corporations, and big, corrupt unions, ineptly disguised as “stimulus.”

We have also seen a rash of unconstitutional executive orders spewing from the White House, ostensibly giving the president power over everything from fishing in our oceans and rivers, to the lives of millions of Americans living in rural areas. In addition, totally unconstitutional executive branch agencies like the EPA have been let off the leash and set like snarling Rottweilers on the states and the people.

The blond, blue-eyed terror suspect in Oslo (updated)

July 23, 2011 1 comment

After initially urging caution in presuming it was Islamic terrorists at the root of the mayhem, when reports came in of Islamic groups claiming credit, we noted that Norway has pursued anti-Israel policies, and that anti-Israel boycotts are popular among certain groups in Norway. I remain skeptical about Brevik, just as I remain skeptical of the narrative that Timothy McVeigh was a “right wing Christian” terrorist. (See Jayna Davis’s extraordinary work debunking the official narrative of McVeigh, a cover-up of dismaying effectiveness in this country.)

Mike Baehr adds:

Mike Baehr adds:

The narrative of a blond-haired, blue-eyed Christian fascist attacking his own country is entirely too convenient.

I have no doubt that he’s the shooter, given the witnesses and the fact that he was arrested at the scene. But an attack like yesterday’s took months of planning and probably quite a bit of training. Not just anyone is capable of building explosives that will remotely (or were they timed?) detonate successfully in a major downtown.

One also does not knock the ruling party from power by murdering 80 of its up-and-coming in a horrific attack. If anything, that’s a good way to keep them in power for the next 20 years. I would count on Labour to milk this for all it’s worth.

The Threat of Nancy Grace

After her Casey Anthony coverage, Nancy Grace and her penchant to prematurely convict worries the defense attorney of Conrad Murray, on trial in the death of Michael Jackson. Nancy Grace is a former Georgia prosecutor who became a television legal commentator, first on Court TV and, more recently, on Turner Broadcasting‘s HLN cable channel. (CNN)

Tim Rutten July 23, 2011

The sensational result in the O.J. Simpson murder case notwithstanding, it’s an article of faith among criminal defense attorneys that sequestered jurors are more prone to convict than those who go home when the trial recesses for the day.

That’s why more notice should have been paid this week when J. Michael Flanagan, who is defending Conrad Murray — the physician charged with causing the death of pop superstar Michael Jackson — asked Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor to sequester the jurors when the trial gets underway in September. Pastor said he didn’t think isolation was necessary and that, given its current funding, the court couldn’t afford to house and supervise a jury for the many weeks the trial probably will take.

What was equally remarkable about Flanagan’s request was that he never argued that his client’s right to a fair trial was threatened by a media frenzy. Rather, he argued, Murray’s 6th Amendment rights were jeopardized by the attention of a single news media personality: Nancy Grace.

Grace is the former Georgia prosecutor who became a television legal commentator, first on Court TV and, more recently, on Turner Broadcasting’s HLN cable channel. She’s a snarling, angry presence whose habitual sneer is an epic chasm of contempt. Her view of the criminal justice system is flawlessly Manichean.

Jane Fonda: “The Truth About My Trip To Hanoi”

July 23, 2011 1 comment

It is unconscionable that extremist groups circulate letters which accuse me of horrific things, saying that I am a traitor, that POWs in Hanoi were tied up and in chains and marched passed me while I spat at them and called them ‘baby killers. These letters also say that when the POWs were brought into the room for a meeting I had with them, we shook hands and they passed me tiny slips of paper on which they had written their social security numbers. Supposedly, this was so that I could bring back proof to the U.S. military that they were alive. The story goes on to say that I handed these slips of paper over to the North Vietnamese guards and, as a result, at least one of the men was tortured to death.

That these stories could be given credence shows how little people know of the realities in North Vietnam prisons at the time. The U.S. government and the POW families didn’t need me to tell them who the prisoners were. They had all their names. Moreover, according to even the most hardcore senior officers, torture stopped late in 1969, two and a half years before I got there. And, most importantly, I would never say such things to our servicemen, whom I respect, whether or not I agree with the mission they have been sent to perform, which is not of their choosing.

But these lies have circulated for almost forty years, continually reopening the wound of the Vietnam War and causing pain to families of American servicemen. The lies distort the truth of why I went to North Vietnam and they perpetuate the myth that being anti-war means being anti-soldier.

The President Is Actually Trying to Talk the Markets Into a Panic.

July 22, 2011 Leave a comment

An enraged Barack Obama just took to the nation’s airwaves to announce his effort to strike a deal with Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner has fallen apart. Perhaps for the first time in American history, this president is literally using this press conference to create a financial panic over the weekend about the opening of the markets on Monday. He is warning of disaster on Monday. Clearly, he wants to use this as leverage to frighten the GOP into passing the plan proposed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, which will push the debt ceiling problem into 2013, but it’s still an entirely new and astonishingly reckless gambit.

Watching the insta-reaction on Twitter is very instructive. Liberals say this is good for Obama because it shows GOP recalcitrance. Conservatives say that he has remained so committed to enormous tax increases that he tanked the very possibility of a deal. Time will tell, but it strikes me that the heated rhetoric he is using—”I didn’t get my phone call returned,” “I’ve been left at the altar,” “there’s nothing Republicans will say yes to”—does not suggest he, Obama, feels he has been handed a gift by Boehner and the GOP. He claims to have put $1.5 trillion in cuts on the table, plus $600 billion in entitlement reductions, in exchange for tax increases of the same size. He says Republicans said they would accept a dollar in higher taxes (or “revenue”) for every four dollars in cuts, which isn’t exactly saying “no’” to everything. For their part, Republicans in the House passed their cut, cap and balance bill on Wednesday, and it included an increase in the debt ceiling, so even by his own account his criticisms of the GOP are not accurate.

Obama Is Nearing His Goal (Obama deliberately torpedoed budget talks to generate crisis?)

July 22, 2011 Leave a comment

As I have written and argued repeatedly for months, President Obama wants a crisis. He plans to use a crisis to seize even more power for himself and for the government. Now he is a significant step closer to his goal. Despite his finger-pointing con-job in his nasty press conference this afternoon, Obama is the one who deliberately torpedoed the budget talks. He is the one who has yet to put an actual plan on the table. He is the one who refused to even let GOP negotiators talk. He is the one who insisted through most of the year that no other provisions be attached to the hike in the debt limit — that the debt limit hike should be “clean” rather than include even a single cost saving.

Now, as Speaker John Boehner just said, and as so many others have said in less vivid language, “dealing with the president is like negotiating with a bowl of Jello.” He just won’t stay still. And he’s doing it on purpose. He’s doing it because he doesn’t want a deal. He wants a crisis. This is a very dangerous game he’s playing, but he’s playing to win. And if he wins, we all lose — we lose financially, and we lose at least some of our freedom. Mark my words. This is what Obama’s game is. To try to win it, he has been fibbing, faking, and fulminating. Once he wins it, he will do far worse.

Like a headmaster in chief of some Dickensian orphanage, President Obama earlier this month told us to “eat our peas” — meaning accept the tax increases we know are good for us.

Socialism has always come down to contempt for the will of the people, to a benevolent elite force-feeding its enlightened policies down the throats of the masses.

Karl Marx himself once dismissed free elections as merely “deciding once in three or six years which member of the ruling class was to misrepresent the people in parliament.”

A CNN/ORC poll this week directly contradicted the media template that most Americans think tax increases are good for them. It found that 66% support the cut, cap and balance bill that passed the GOP-controlled House of Representatives but was killed in the Democrat-controlled Senate on Friday.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid called it “one of the worst pieces of legislation to be brought to the floor of the U.S. Senate.” It “violates the spirit of our Constitution,” he said. Why? One reason: The cut, cap, balance solution doesn’t raise taxes.

Ron Paul Appeals To America: “Risk Default Now, Or Suffer A More Expensive Crisis Later”

Debate over the debt ceiling has reached a fever pitch in recent weeks, with each side trying to outdo the other in a game of political chicken. If you believe some of the things that are being written, the world will come to an end if the U.S. defaults on even the tiniest portion of its debt.

In strict terms, the default being discussed will occur if the U.S. fails to meet its debt obligations, through failure to pay either interest or principal due a bondholder. Proponents of raising the debt ceiling claim that a default on Aug. 2 is unprecedented and will result in calamity (never mind that this is simply an arbitrary date, easily changed, marking a congressional recess). My expectations of such a scenario are more sanguine.

The U.S. government defaulted at least three times on its obligations during the 20th century.

– In 1934, the government banned ownership of gold and eliminated the right to exchange gold certificates for gold coins. It then immediately revalued gold from $20.67 per troy ounce to $35, thus devaluing the dollar holdings of all Americans by 40 percent.

Clint Walker Gets Six-Gun Salute on Encore Western Channel

Probably best known for his role as “Cheyenne“, Walker was a handsome, quiet and honorable man. In most of his interviews, he is quick to praise his co-stars and praise them for his performances being good. Walker still receives film offers but has not found one that fits his standards. He said, “There is a lot of stuff now that is in bad taste, and I don’t see the necessity for it all. We didn’t have to do it in our time, and they don’t have to do it now.”

Boehner Ends Talks With White House on Debt Deal

July 22, 2011 2 comments

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, on Friday said he ended negotiations with President Obama on a so-called grand bargain to achieve sizable deficit reduction in the context of raising the debt ceiling.

Boehner informed all House Republicans in a letter released at 6 p.m. EDT.

“A deal was never reached and was never really close,” Boehner wrote. “I have decided to end discussions with the White House and begin conversations with the leaders of the Senate in an effort to find a path forward.”

Boehner blamed Obama’s demand for higher taxes and opposition to “fundamental changes” to entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

“In the end, we couldn’t connect,” Boehner wrote. “Not because of different personalities, but because of different visions for our country. The president is emphatic that taxes have to be raised. The president is adamant that we cannot make fundamental changes to our entitlement programs.”

Boehner and senior House GOP aides said there is a common bicameral desire to avoid default on August 2, but have no legislative approach to achieve that goal.

“I believe there is a shared commitment on both sides of the aisle to producing legislation that will serve the best interests of our country in the days ahead,” Boehner wrote.

Boehner informed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Friday afternoon.

Senior House GOP aides said Boehner is not maneuvering and from now on the only focus of negotiations will be to produce a bill that raises the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling and meets Boehner’s longstanding demand that spending cuts exceed the amount by which the debt ceiling is lifted and the package contain no tax increases.

Video: Obama Complains About His Job

The narcissist is at it again! Unprecedented.

Obama sees his job as President of the United States as one that is beneath him. True satisfaction will only come for The One if he is elected president of the world.

Obama: “It’s nice to get out of Washington! Don’t get me wrong. There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting hour after hour, day after day debating the fine point of the federal budget with members of Congress.!”

Obama could be removed by his own signature

Obama’s Oval OfficeMy recent column, Why Obama Can’t be Impeached, brought an avalanche of email with many questions. In particular, someone wanted to know if hypothetically, Barry Soetoro aka Obama, committed treason by selling sensitive military secrets, could he be charged with treason? The putative president is a civilian and can be indicted by a federal grand jury. If enough evidence exists, he could be tried and convicted. But, as someone who has usurped the office of the president, he cannot be impeached for the same crime since he does not legally occupy the office.

He clearly is guilty of violating 18 U.S.C. §1343, the federal wire fraud statute, which typically carries a penalty of at least 20 years. As a civilian, he can be indicted and tried in federal court.

Question about the oath of office ceremony. As Barry clearly has known all along he was never eligible, when he took the oath of office, he committed perjury – twice. We can all remember, there was a second ‘swearing in‘ due to Chief Justice John Robert’s tripping over his tongue. But, was there more to it?

Martial Law in America: No Longer Just a Possibility! by Gary D. Barnett

July 22, 2011 1 comment

With the changes I’ve listed above and the new executive order signed by Obama on January 11th, 2010, the stage is set for the federal government to take over this country, and by force, should “we the people” get out of line. Considering the horrible economic situation we’re in, the high and growing rate of unemployment, the constant increase of brutality by the police, the unwarranted searches and seizures, the nearly complete loss of civil liberties and continuous wars, could anyone honestly believe that a state of Martial Law is not only possible but probable?

If any of you out there think of this as some sort of conspiracy theory, you may be exactly right. The government does seem to be conspiring to gain the power to control by military force the citizenry of this country. It seems very clear to me, and there is a voluminous amount of evidence to support the conclusion that a government conspiracy is in fact already in place.

Every move we make is monitored. Every call we make can be traced. Every email we send can be captured. Every financial transaction we do is data-based. We can’t travel even in our own country without being strip-searched and abused by the cretins at TSA. And if the government decides for no reason at all to label us as “enemy combatants,” they can throw us in prison and torture or kill us without even the benefit of trial. So why would anyone think that this government could not and would not take the next step in its progression of control? That next step is Martial Law, and once implemented might turn out to be the final step in ending our history of freedom!
