Obama Dethrones Czars, Debate Simmers (Constitutionality of Czars Questioned)

Two years after he dramatically expanded the scope of so-called policy czars, President Obama this year quietly scrapped some of the most controversial posts, tamping down what had been a simmering constitutional fight with Congress.

Thanks to what the White House says is a reorganization, czars no longer oversee health care or climate change policy, though less-visible officials such as “cybersecurity czar” and “Gulf Coast claims czar,” among others, are still on the job.

But even as Capitol Hill’s objections have been overshadowed by other fights between the executive and legislative branches over the nation’s borrowing limit and the NATO-led operation in Libya, that doesn’t mean congressional scrutiny of executive branch czars has vanished.

Last month, the Senate fell 13 votes short on an amendment to eliminate the salaries of White House policy czars and thwart any attempts by Mr. Obama to appoint more without the chamber’s consent.

Sen. David Vitter, Louisiana Republican and the amendment’s sponsor, said the measure was essential to ensure constitutional accountability. Opponents dismissed it as a partisan attempt to undermine the president’s authority to organize his own staff.

Analysts say it’s not surprising that concerns about White House czars persist, even after Mr. Obama’s April reshuffling of top staff positions through executive order.

“I think it’s legitimate to be concerned about it, because you don’t always know what these people are doing — you don’t know if they’re coordinating or directing,” said James P. Pfiffner, a George Mason University public policy professor who has testified before Congress on the issue.

MS: So you know, the test doesn’t get updated terribly often. But there is, I believe there is a condition there that as a condition of my continued residency in the United States, that I not foment the overthrow of the United States government. So I was eager to emphasize to Rush listeners that there was no fomenting going on in the program whatsoever.

HH: Well then, I tremble at the prospect of asking you about the Gang of Six, because it was hailed as the salvation of America. And I’m going to challenge Tom Coburn about it, but you’re not enamored of the Gang of Six.

MS: No, and as I say, emphasizing the non-fomenting nature of my disagreement…

HH: (laughing)

MS: …I wouldn’t entirely be averse to the collapse of the United States government right at the moment, in a purely non-fomenting sense, Hugh.

HH: (laughing) Bystander.

MS: …I hasten to add, in case some Border Patrol guy is listening.

HH: (laughing)

MS: No, because for a start, this whole debate in the media has been framed dishonestly. You know, the world is not watching just to see Congress pass a debt ceiling increase. The world is watching to see if the American political class is willing to get serious about America’s unsustainable level of government spending, because the various holders of U.S. Treasury debt do not want to be dragged down with a collapsed dollar and a collapsed United States government. And by the way, these are not, people tend to think that this sort of debt stuff just affects foreigners. I mean, if you’ve got a pension fund, if you’ve got insurance funds, all these things, municipal, state and municipal funds, these are all among the biggest buyers of U.S. Treasury debt. And so it’s not just the Chinese and the Japanese and the British. There’s a lot of people in America who are going to be affected by the depravity and incompetence of the political class.

LEAKED: U.S. defense officials deliberately skewed survey results to sway ‘Don’t Ask’ repeal

According to an explosive document, investigators from the U.S. military’s top investigative office found evidence that a Pentagon survey pivotal to the [DADT] repeal was engineered months prior to its release, and was deliberately skewed in later media leaks, with the intention of swaying Congress towards repeal despite opposition from combat troops.

An unredacted version of the April 2011 report by the Defense department’s Inspector General was leaked to the conservative Center for Military Readiness, and a slightly redacted version was confirmed as authentic by a Defense spokesperson to LifeSiteNews.com.

The authors found that Jeh Johnson, a co-chair of the commission handling the survey…breached the document’s non-disclosure agreements by discussing an early draft of the document with “a former news anchor” and “close personal friend” on or around July 4, 2010. The purpose of the meeting, almost six months before the survey’s official end, was to obtain “suggestions for persuasive writing” in addition to syntax and sentence structure, according to investigators.

…the IG reports that the individual said he/she was “pleased that finally the United States was getting around to this idea and I was struck by how many members of the United States Armed Services thought this was just fine.” The individual said that he/she reached the conclusion about troops favoring repeal based on a sentence in the document she saw in July.

However, according to the survey itself, the survey’s 103 questions were not transmitted to troops until July 7, and were available online through August 15.

Further evidence of tampering emerged while investigating a source who breached non-disclosure agreements by leaking survey results to the media weeks before its release. Investigators concluded that, in addition to violating protocol, the source was “not a ‘disinterested party’” and deliberately skewed the information to favor a repeal of DADT.

Government Considers Ways to Rent Foreclosed Homes…

The Obama administration is examining ways to pull foreclosed properties off the market and rent them to help stabilize the housing market, according to people familiar with the matter.

While the plans may not advance beyond the concept phase, they are under serious consideration by senior administration officials because rents are rising even as home prices in many hard-hit markets continue to fall due to high foreclosure levels.

Trimming the glut of unsold foreclosed homes on the market is “worth looking at,” said Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke in testimony to Congress last week. Nationally, home prices in May were …

HR Bill 1505 allows for DHS takeover of seashores and coastal areas

A new house bill wants to allow the Department of Homeland Security to have jurisdiction over all federal lands on national seashores and coastal areas.

HR Bill 1505, the “National Security and Federal Lands Protection Act,” would force the Secretary of the Interior to cede authority of coastal public lands, as well as lands located along the borders of Canada and Mexico, to the Secretary of Homeland Security when the latter sees fit. It would give the Dept. of Homeland Security the ability to construct roads and fences, deploy patrol vehicles and set up “monitoring equipment” in the National Seashore with impunity. And it would waive the need for the Dept. of Homeland Security to comply with environmental laws in areas within 100 miles of a coastline or international border.

The laws from which the Dept. of Homeland Security would be exempt include the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, the Clean Air Act, the Coastal Zone Management Act, the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act and virtually every other piece of environmental legislation passed by Congress.

The bill is not without opposition. Congressman William Keating , who also sits on the House committee for Homeland Security, is concerned about the language in the bill as it appears to allow for outright destruction of parts of the United States as long as the DHS claims that there is some sort of security risk. There are also massive environmental and legislative problems to be taken into consideration as well.

…the proposed legislation would give unprecedented authority to a single federal agency to destroy wildlife habitat and wetlands, impair downstream water quality and restrict activities such as hunting, fishing and grazing. It would leave Congress and the public without a voice, even though at stake are hundreds of popular destinations,” including Glacier National Park, the Great Lakes, the California coastline and Cape Cod, said Jane Danowitz, director of U.S. public lands for the Pew Environment Group.

Areas in which environmental laws would be waived under the proposed law include the entire border of Alaska, most of Puerto Rico, all of Hawaii and all of Florida. Other national parks that be would affected include Olympic National Park and Mt. Rainer National Park in Washington, Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, Big Bend National Park in Texas, Acadia National Park in Maine and Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina.

This is far too sweeping legislation. It essentially allows the DHS to do whatever it wants, including destroying habitats and coastlines, all in the name of security. There would be no oversight and no recourse for anyone or anything in the affected areas.

When is this overreaching of government going to be enough? Would you like to visit any of the places named above if they were swarming with armed military, checkpoints, and “random” stops, especially if you had no recourse to complain about them? What are the “other purposes” in this bill and just how far will it be stretched to fit the mission of the DHS as it changes day to day? We need to stop this bill while it’s still in committee. Once it becomes a law, these former parks and seashores will no longer be a place for a family to enjoy a weekend together. It will be a militarized border, questionable to no one.

Why raise taxes when officials squander our money?

Gov. Jerry Brown and Democratic legislators failed in their bid to put billions of dollars in tax extensions on the ballot, not only because they couldn’t persuade a few Republicans to go along, but because Democrats’ union allies feared that voters would reject the taxes.

In the aftermath, Brown and the Democrats passed a no-new-taxes budget while warning about shredding vital public services.

It’s a valid debate to have, but voters’ instinctive reluctance to pay more taxes is bolstered by a steady stream of incidents implying that the taxes they already pay are often wasted.

Take, for example, what occurred as California State University system trustees raised student fees due to budget cuts. Simultaneously, they approved a $400,000 salary for the new president of San Diego State University, $100,000 higher than his predecessor.

Brown publicly castigated the trustees. “At a time when the state is closing its courts, laying off public school teachers and shutting senior centers, it is not right to be raising the salaries of leaders who – of necessity – must demand sacrifice from everyone else,” Brown said.

But Brown didn’t utter a peep when the board that oversees a $3 billion stem cell research bond issue decided to pay its new Brown-appointed chairman – ironically – $400,000.

So much for demanding sacrifice.

Washington: Wasting no time, Army Chief of Staff nominee Gen. Ray Odierno made it clear his vision for the Army once he takes the reins.

Testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee during his confirmation hearing today, Odierno said the Army would remain America‘s “national force of decisive action,” even after the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan finally wind down.

“Our leaders at every level have displayed unparalleled ingenuity, flexibility and adaptability,” he told lawmakers. “They have transformed the Army into the most versatile, agile, rapidly deployable … strategic land force in the world today.”

Obama Makes ‘Socialist’ Quip During Debt Town Hall

During his town hall meeting in Maryland today on the debt crisis, President Obama found time to answer critics who think his position (and positions) have a socialist flavor. And he joked about it.

Obama seems well aware of his critics. For example, on radio today Glenn Beck labeled the president a “Marxist.”

Less than two weeks away from a debt ceiling deadline, President Barack Obama sought Friday to pressure House Republicans to come around to a deal that he insisted must include new taxes — which he calls “revenues” — as well as spending cuts.

At the same time, even with no clear end in sight to negotiations that have dragged on for weeks, the president asserted that the U.S. has never defaulted on its debt and won’t do so now.

Don’t Kill the Oxford Comma!

The university hands down a new edict about punctuation — but the world’s grammar nerds will never back down

Grammar lovers today were saddened, shocked, and mightily displeased at the news that the P.R. department of the University of Oxford has decided to drop the comma for which it is so justly famed. As GalleyCat reported, the university’s new style guide advises writers, “As a general rule, do not use the serial/Oxford comma: so write ‘a, b and c’ not ‘a, b, and c’.” Cue the collective gasps of horror. The last time the nerd community was this cruelly betrayed, George Lucas was sitting at his desk, thinking, “I shall call him Jar Jar.”

The serial comma is one of the sanest punctuation usages in the written language. It gives each element of a series its own distinct place in it, instead of lumping the last two together in one hasty breath. Think about it — when you bake, you gather up your eggs, butter, sugar, and flour; you don’t treat sugar and flour as a pair. That would be crazy. That is why, like evangelicals with “John 3:16” bumper stickers on their SUVs, punctuation worshipers cling to CM 6.19 – the Chicago Manual of Style‘s decree that “in a series consisting of three or more elements, the elements are separated by commas. When a conjunction joins the last two elements in a series, a comma is used before the conjunction.” So valuable is that serial comma that it’s on frickin’ Page 2 of Strunk and White, right after the possessive apostrophe. And it is good.

There are those who disagree. The AP and New York Times eschew it, and everyone knows what a bunch of hacks that lot is. Here at Salon, meanwhile, I can now reveal that for years one of our great roiling internal tumults was over the serial comma. Our house style, imposed largely by the recently departed despot King Kaufman, was opposed to it. I am, clearly, violently in favor of it, and have spent the better part of the last 15 years enduring the pain of watching our editors systematically remove it from my stories. Oh, how it burns!

Why, in a world where “M I RITE?” constitutes a legitimate conversational volley, would anyone care about an Oxford comma? It’s precisely because grammar — don’t even get me started on spelling — has become so expendable that it’s conversely become so precious. A friend tells of a text she got prior to a first date with a new man that read, “I’m looking forward to seeing you, too.” As she puts it, “A comma before the ‘too’? Nobody does that anymore. I saw that and thought, ‘I’m in luuuuuuuv.’”

I’m not saying the serial comma works perfectly before every “and.” It certainly shouldn’t be employed if you’re not describing a series — hence the term. If you’re discussing “my friend, a gentleman and a scholar” and you’re using “a gentleman and a scholar” to characterize your friend and not two other people along for the ride, a comma there would be a bad idea. But for clarity in list-making, for that sweet pause of breath before the final item in a group, the serial comma cannot be topped.

It’s true that Oxford’s new punctuation guide is only for its P.R. department, and it comes with the clause that “when a comma would assist in the meaning of the sentence or helps to resolve ambiguity, it can be used.” The university press, Oxford further hastens to remind us, remains “a commercially and editorially autonomous organization.” But the prospect of the beloved Oxford comma being dumped by its own kin seems cruelly ominous. It’s like Hugh Hefner saying he’s no longer interested in blondes. And though you may think you’ve taken away our beloved little swipe of typeface this time, comma haters, the serial comma community is determined, tenacious, and resilient. We will keep sticking the comma into our sentences, and still sacrifice that one valuable character of our tweets in its service. We may still be reeling with denial, anger, bargaining, and depression, but you will never, ever have our acceptance.

UPDATE: In response to the outrage, Oxford University reassured distraught grammar fans today that its comma drama had been greatly exaggerated. Maria Coyle of the university’s press office stated that the edict to eschew the serial comma was only for press releases and internal communication, and furthermore “is not new, it’s been online for several years already.” The Oxford Dictionary’s site has also added a new blog post Thursday, reasserting its tough, pro-comma stance. The Post & Email previously interviewed Mr. Vogt on June 2, 2011, during which he stated, “I have a unique background for analyzing this document. I owned a typesetting company for 11 years so I know type and form design very well. I currently own Archive Index Systems since 1993, which sells all types of document scanners worldwide and also developed document imaging software…”

Geo-politically, the endless wars for peace grind on even though everyone knows the moment we leave Iraq they will ally themselves with Iran and the moment we leave Afghanistan the Taliban will march into Kabul as Karsai, his crew, and our billions will take off for Geneva. Just as the President’s best seller, The Dreams of My Father resembles the nightmares of others his Arab Spring looks more like the prelude to a twenty-first century Kristallnacht or the Middle East version of the March on Rome. (Jul. 22, 2011) — These days if a news headline or editorial title contains the words “IMPEACH” or “IMPEACHMENT” it instantly draws my attention. As I turned to my favorite online newspaper today, “The Post & Email,” I saw there was an article by one Neil Turner entitled “Why Calls For Impeachment Process Are Still On The Table”, so after skimming the headlines, I read it first.

I can’t help myself, I love the word, “impeachment”. It’s a lovely word. Close your eyes and say the word slowly —- “im-peach-ment” — and it invokes a picture of a cool southern night when the intense heat of the day finally begins to melt away, sitting in the porch swing out on the veranda, with the scent of fresh sweet peaches and soothing leafy green mint filling the air while the sounds of returning American sanity and restoration — ok, never mind; maybe I get carried away sometimes.

If three years ago someone would have informed me the day was fast approaching when “impeachment” would become one of my favorite words in all the English language, I would have thought they were not only crazy, but a little on the morbid side. It’s really not a lovely word; it is a serious, horrible word and nothing to fall in love with— but these, my friends, are truly crazy and morbid times. And I agree with Neil Turner; we must keep doing what we can and wherever we can and any way we can.

Conservatives, Our Battles Are Only Beginning

Victory is within sight, an incompetent Marxist can’t keep from making monumental errors and the economy continues to tank. For all our efforts to defeat the Obama Myth, we could hardy keep us with his misadventures and determination to defeat himself. Consequently, Americans have grown weary of empty promises and dubious claims of recovery.

We were relentless in our attacks and we stood virtually alone, the Republican Party leadership followed Obama like loyal sycophants sniffing at the Obama Swine Trough to see what scraps might be thrown their way from the Obama Stash, a delightful euphemism describing American taxpayer funds. The Great Political Redistribution Bill, otherwise known as the Stimulus Con, had to be passed to help unemployment and keep America solvent, Republican Leaders fell for it like children believing in Santa Claus. The greatest scam in the world passed without debate at Obama’s direction and the American taxpayer was forced into virtual slavery for generations so that Obama could consolidate his political base.

His health care monstrosity was then forced on America against the will of the people and again the “Go along to get along” Republicans figured maybe it was what America wanted.

The mid-term election of 2010 made Republicans realize there was a serious movement among the people, they were registering their revulsion of Obama Marxism. All of a sudden, they figured it was in their best interest to pay attention to this Conservative movement among the people. These are the same people who ignored us and followed Obama with their noses secured to hind end of his trousers.

Will they sell us out? If Brian, a poster who claims to have been an integral part of the Rubio campaign (a fact that will be confirmed or disproven) is any indication of the inside people of the Republican Party, they have already sold us out as indicated by his rude anti-Semitic rhetoric.

The Obama battle was easy. Most of the RINOs and Obama Republicans are still in Washington. We must now either defeat the RINOs and Obama Republicans within the Republican Party or if the Republican Party is overly riddled with bigoted, obnoxious fools like Brian, we will need a third party to achieve victory.

Following widespread outrage yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security has ludicrously denied that a video it released encouraging Americans to report suspicious activity contains “racial overtones,” despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of people depicted as terrorists in the clip are white middle class Americans.

The story, first featured on Infowars.com, went viral yesterday, appearing on the Drudge Report, Fox News, Breitbart.tv, the Daily Mail as well as featuring highly amongst the most read articles on the entire Internet during that 24 hour period. The Fox Nation version of the story received well over 2000 comments.

Don’t they know stereotyping causes alienation, and alienation and poor self-esteem lead to radicalization? A video released by the Department of Homeland Security urging people to report anything suspicious has caused outrage by characterising white middle class Americans as the most likely terrorists. The promotional video is part of Homeland Security’s $10million ‘See Something, Say Something’ programme as they believe it will help curb random acts of terrorism by individuals.

But the controversial video has angered some Americans due to the fact all the actors who play the would-be terrorists in the video are white, and the people who report them are either black, Asian or Arab. What would happen – it is asked – if it was the other way about?

The ten-minute clip shows a number of scenarios in which different behaviours which could be characterised as terrorism are played out.

These include – wearing a hooded top, driving vans, opposing surveillance footage, using a video camera, talking to police officers and recording something on your smartphone, among others.

Recently, the bond rating agencies that gave junk derivatives triple-A ratings threatened to downgrade US Treasury bonds if the White House and Congress did not reach a deficit reduction deal and debt ceiling increase. The downgrade threat is not credible, and neither is the default threat. Both are make-believe crises that are being hyped in order to force cutbacks in Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

If the rating agencies downgraded Treasuries, the company executives would be arrested for the fraudulent ratings that they gave to the junk that Wall Street peddled to the rest of the world. The companies would be destroyed and their ratings discredited. The US government will never default on its bonds, because the bonds, unlike those of Greece, Spain, and Ireland, are payable in its own currency. Regardless of whether the debt ceiling is raised, the Federal Reserve will continue to purchase the Treasury’s debt. If Goldman Sachs is too big to fail, then so is the US government.

There is no budget focus on the illegal wars and military occupations that the US government has underway in at least six countries or the 66-year old US occupations of Japan and Germany and the ring of military bases being constructed around Russia.

The total military/security budget is in the vicinity of $1.1-$1.2 trillion, or 70% -75% of the federal budget deficit.

In contrast, Social Security is solvent. Medicare expenditures are coming close to exceeding the 2.3% payroll tax that funds Medicare, but it is dishonest for politicians and pundits to blame the US budget deficit on “entitlement programs.”

Entitlements are funded with a payroll tax. Wars are not funded. The criminal Bush regime lied to Americans and claimed that the Iraq war would only cost $70 billion at the most and would be paid for with Iraq oil revenues. When Bush’s chief economic advisor, Larry Lindsay, said the Iraq invasion would cost $200 billion, the White House Moron fired him. In fact, Lindsay was off by a factor of 20. Economic and budget experts have calculated that the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have consumed $4,000 billion in out-of-pocket and already incurred future costs. In other words, the ongoing wars and occupations have already eaten up the $4 trillion by which Obama hopes to cut federal spending over the next ten years. Bomb now, pay later.

As taxing the rich is not part of the political solution, the focus is on rewarding the insurance companies by privatizing Medicare at some future date with government subsidized insurance premiums, by capping Medicaid, and by loading the diminishing middle class with additional Social Security tax.

Policy czars remain on job as objections simmer

Two years after he dramatically expanded the scope of so-called policy czars, President Obama this year quietly scrapped some of the most controversial posts, tamping down what had been a simmering constitutional fight with Congress.

Thanks to what the White House says is a reorganization, czars no longer oversee health care or climate change policy, though less-visible officials such as “cybersecurity czar” and “Gulf Coast claims czar,” among others, are still on the job.

But even as Capitol Hill’s objections have been overshadowed by other fights between the executive and legislative branches over the nation’s borrowing limit and the NATO-led operation in Libya, that doesn’t mean congressional scrutiny of executive branch czars has vanished.

Last month, the Senate fell 13 votes short on an amendment to eliminate the salaries of White House policy czars and thwart any attempts by Mr. Obama to appoint more without the chamber’s consent.

Sen. David Vitter, Louisiana Republican and the amendment’s sponsor, said the measure was essential to ensure constitutional accountability. Opponents dismissed it as a partisan attempt to undermine the president’s authority to organize his own staff.

Analysts say it’s not surprising that concerns about White House czars persist, even after Mr. Obama’s April reshuffling of top staff positions through executive order.

In basic English grammar, a name spelled in upper and lower case, such as John Joseph Smith, is indicative of a flesh and blood man, a natural person.

A Libertarian Theory of Secession and Slavery

Professor Tibor Machan, in his “Lincoln, Secession and Slavery” (6/1/02) has taken the position that while secession in and of itself is unobjectionable to the libertarian, it cannot properly be applied to political jurisdictions which practice slavery. For, if secession rights were allowed to slave owning countries, it would in effect be to justify kidnappers absconding with their victims. He applies this perspective to the United States, circa 1861, and concludes that Abraham Lincoln, for whatever his faults, and Machan concedes they were many and serious, is still “a good American.” Why? This is because he was justified in stopping the Confederate (slave) States from seceding, even though, Machan again stipulates, stopping slavery was no part of Lincoln’s motivation.

While it cannot be denied that this is an interesting viewpoint, even a refreshing one, in that it has not hitherto been broadly discussed, it cannot be reconciled with libertarian principles.

Except perhaps for Che Guevara, no one has quite been the heroic totem to the global left than the late Marxist president of Chile, whose death in 1973 made him a martyr to socialism.

Allende seemingly legitimized socialism as a democratically elected leader, the first Marxist who in 1970 didn’t shoot his way to power.That gave the left hope for more.

Elected with just 36% of the vote in a split election, he believed he had a mandate to ram through a hard-core Marxist program of expropriation and indoctrination like that of his mentor, Cuba‘s Fidel Castro.

In the process Allende left Chile’s economy in ruins and trampled the rule of law so badly he brought his country to the brink of civil war. He was stopped only when the legislature charged him with 22 constitutional violations and ordered Chile’s military to oust him.

As Chilean jets strafed La Moneda presidential palace Sept. 11, 1973, Allende shot himself with a gold-plated submachine gun given him by Castro.

At the request of Allende’s family, an official investigation in May exhumed the dead man’s body, conducted forensic tests and on Tuesday found that, yes, Allende took his own life. It was what his family always believed, consistent with the tone of his final speech and a family history of suicides.

Did You Love America?

Do you realize our country, the country many of us loved, and were willing to lay down our lives for, is no more? Don’t despair my fellow refugees and citizens of our beloved former America, but please do come to terms with the fact that our country was ill and dying for decades and it has now ceased to exist as we once knew it.

Nevertheless, this is not intended as an essay of gloom, but as a signpost denoting the reality of where we are, and an ensign for some, of the second American Revolution that has already begun without them. During its lifespan, the United States had forty and four men who called themselves President, but history likely will record the official number as forty-three, with George W. Bush as its last, and among the worst in the first dispensation of American independence.

John Adams loved the spirit of revolution inspired by Thomas Paine’s pamphlet, Common Sense, but he also bemoaned at length the “leveling spirit” of unbridled democracy. Adams correctly believed, there was no good government that was not a Republic. He felt there was not yet sufficient civic virtue in the colonies to support a Republic, and so he counseled against immediate abandonment of the accepted property-based franchise in determining a right to vote.

Adams was concerned that every man without a farthing would eventually, “demand an equal voice in all the acts of state.” Even though his lament included women and children voting, his point was clear considering the times, that only those who had the wherewithal to think and act rationally should be allowed to vote. Otherwise we would suffer a democratic legislature that would use “the will of the people” to enforce tyranny…which is precisely where we are today.

To a point, Adams had been somewhat conservative in his approach to independence compared to his more radical contemporaries. He was home in Braintree when he heard news of British troops firing on the Minutemen at Lexington, and at that instant, John Adams ceased to be a disgruntled subject of the King…but rather, he and many others, were instantly transformed by that act of aggression, into 100% red-blooded Americans.

In early March of 1775, American and British cannons roared at the Siege of Boston, rattling windows in Braintree some twelve miles away. John Adams’ wife Abigail and their children were in Braintree, where she wrote to her husband, “Cannon continued firing and my heart kept pace with them all night.” Adams had left his cherished wife and children to fend for themselves, and his once prestigious law practice had vanished in his absence. What was it that drove the “Host of Worthies,” as Jefferson called them fifty years later, to such extreme action?

While Southern aristocrats called for peace, and insisted that British commissioners were on their way to reconcile with the colonies, Adams dismissed such hope as an “airy fairy,” and pushed for escalation of the war. In May, Adams wrote Abigail and told her Great Britain had, “at last driven America to the last step, a complete separation from her.” He said there is, “something unnatural and extremely odious in a government 1000 leagues off. A whole government of our own choice, managed by Persons whom We love, revere and can confide in, has charms in it, for which Men will fight.”

And there it is…good government for which men will fight, and the odiousness of a government 1000 leagues off. How far off are the puppet masters pulling the strings of the usurper in the White House and our deaf representatives from both political parities? We have come full circle…we are again but a collection of colonies wanting representation, but not getting it, needing protection from a foreign invasion, but having the invasion aided by those who should, but do not protect our borders.

Our national seat of government is under siege, our country is in dire straits, and we are without a pulse of representation, but the nation’s lifeblood is in her people, and the nation’s heart beats within our own breasts where the Constitution is indelibly written…and there is where it lives on, not in Washington. The first dispensation of American independence took a deadly detour under FDR, and has just recently passed away from the affliction.

It is now up to us to insure that the invading government run by the tyranny of democratic mob rule does not stand, but that a Republic rededicated to the rule of law and limited by our Constitution, shall not perish from the earth. Restoring America and American liberty will require a complete rejection of the illegal presidency of the Obama administration, and a complete removal of both houses of Congress, but it can be done.

John Adams returned to Boston the morning after the Boston Tea Party. He wrote in his diary, “Last night, 3 Cargoes of Bohea Tea were emptied into the Sea. This morning a Man of War sails. This is the most magnificent Movement of all. There is a Dignity, a Majesty, a Sublimity in this last Effort of the Patriots that I greatly admire. VA finds that veterans with war wounds live longer than unscathed

In the 60 years since he was wounded at war, Ruben Campos has lived a happy, healthy life in Tucson.

The Department of Veterans Affairs wants to know why.

The VA is taking a closer look at veterans like Campos, 81, after recent medical research showed a link between war wounds and increased longevity.

Aging veterans who, in their youths, earned Purple Hearts -awarded to troops wounded in action – substantially outlived their military peers who didn’t receive the medal, the study found.

VA researchers tracked more than 10,000 veterans of World War II and Korea from the late 1990s until 2008, cross-referencing their death rates and medals data.

At the end of the study period, “those with Purple Heart citations had half the mortality rate of those without,” said a recent news release from the VA. The results held true regardless of whether the veterans had post-traumatic stress disorder, it said.

If further research can figure out why, it could help later generations of war veterans, it added.

“War-wounded veterans who survive into later life – especially those who do not develop PTSD – may provide valuable clues as to the factors that lead to resilience to combat stress,” the VA said.

The Tucson area is home to hundreds of combat-wounded veterans.

About 200 of them, including Campos, belong to the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, where members range in age from their 20s to their 90s.

Campos, a former Army paratrooper wounded by mortar fire in Korea in 1951, is mystified by the VA findings.

“It seems odd,” he said, adding his own secrets to good living are pretty simple.

He and wife Rose have three kids and three grandchildren. He gets medical care from the VA in Tucson, goes to church and spends some of his time helping others, for example, by assisting with food deliveries to the needy.

In drawing comparisons to the U.S. Mercer recalls how U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is a self-described “affirmative action baby” who did not have the academic qualifications to enter Princeton and Yale. She was admitted anyway because of her ethnicity and, according to the New York Times, was told at Princeton to improve her reading skills “by reading children’s classics and studying basic grammar books during her summers.” Mercer quotes Pat Buchanan as asking the obvious question: “How do you graduate first in your class at Princeton if your summer reading consists of Chicken Little and The Troll Under the Bridge?”

UPCOMING WEATHER UNDERGROUND MOVIE TO SHOW ‘REAL AMERICANS WHO STOOD FOR THEIR BELIEFS’

Deadline is reporting that Robert Redford and Shia LaBeouf have been cast to star in the political thriller, “The Company You Keep,” based on the Neil Gordon novel about the domestic terrorist group called the Weather Underground.

“The Company You Keep” tells the story of a 30 year long FBI manhunt for a Weather Underground terrorist, to be played by Redford, who must evade law enforcement after his identity is outed by an ambitious reporter (LaBeouf).

The producers may have already given a peek at the politics behind the film. Voltage producer Nicolas Chartier, who has teamed up with Redford’s Wildwood Enterprises production company for the project, said of the movie that:

“This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller about real Americans who stood for their beliefs, thinking they were patriots and defending their country’s ideals against their government.”

But does the Weather Underground really represent “real Americans” who thought they were patriots?

The WU terrorist movement Redford and the movie will depict tried to ‘bring the war home’ to America, and likely would have killed scores of Americans had it not been for their ineptitude in carrying out terrorist bombings.

Walnuts Are Drugs, Says FDA

Seen any walnuts in your medicine cabinet lately? According to the Food and Drug Administration, that is precisely where you should find them. Because Diamond Foods made truthful claims about the health benefits of consuming walnuts that the FDA didn’t approve, it sent the company a letter declaring, “Your walnut products are drugs” — and “new drugs” at that — and, therefore, “they may not legally be marketed … in the United States without an approved new drug application.” The agency even threatened Diamond with “seizure” if it failed to comply.

Diamond’s transgression was to make “financial investments to educate the public and supply them with walnuts,” as William Faloon of Life Extension magazine put it. On its website and packaging, the company stated that the omega-3 fatty acids found in walnuts have been shown to have certain health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and some types of cancer. These claims, Faloon notes, are well supported by scientific research: “Life Extension has published 57 articles that describe the health benefits of walnuts”; and “The US National Library of Medicine database contains no fewer than 35 peer-reviewed published papers supporting a claim that ingesting walnuts improves vascular health and may reduce heart attack risk.”

(Jul. 21, 2011) — The public schools are positively dangerous to the spiritual, moral, and now physical health of our children. And there can be no doubt that this is deliberate.

I’ll begin with the words of Uncle Joe Stalin, the Communist butcher:

America is like a healthy body. Its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within.

The Communist agenda

As a young grammar school student I remember well Chairman Nikita Khrushchev (early fifties) banging his shoe on the desk at the United Nations screaming how he would bury the United States. I vividly remember the words from within.

In 1958 a book titled The Naked Communist by ex-FBI agent Cleon Skousen, lists 45 declared goals of the Communist party, I’ll list but a few of these goals:

* #17 Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and soften the curriculum. Get control of the teachers’ associations.

* ##20/21 Infiltrate the press. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

* #24 Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by call them “censorship” and violation of free speech and press.

* #25 Break down cultural standards and morality by promoting pornography in books, magazines, motion pictures, and TV.

* #26 Present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as “normal, natural healthy”;

* #27 Infiltrate the church and replace revealed religions with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible.

* #28 Eliminate prayer in schools on the ground that it violates the separation of “church and state”.

It certainly appears to this writer that America has succumbed to the communist mind set under the guise of progressivism. When you thought this administration could not sink lower, they’ve now reached a new low that could prove fatal to those attending public schools.

It was 12 years ago, on March 14, 1983, that the commandant of the Marine Corps sent a highly unusual letter to the secretary of defense expressing frustration and anger at Israel. General R.H. Barrow charged that Israeli troops were deliberately threatening the lives of Marines serving as peacekeepers in Lebanon. There was, he wrote, a systematic pattern of harassment by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that was resulting in “life-threatening situations, replete with verbal degradation of the officers, their uniform and country.”

What is going to happen when the truth comes out?

(Jul. 19, 2011) — Recently The Post & Email was contacted by someone who stated that he was told by very reliable business contacts within his company that they were provided information before the 2008 presidential election that Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Mombasa, Kenya. The interviewee stated that his coworkers were told by an assistant to an under-secretary within the Kenyan government that Obama’s birth record existed in Kenya, and that the information was not difficult at the time to obtain.

The following is our interview with the individual:

MRS. RONDEAU: Thank you for contacting us regarding the knowledge which you said you have that Obama II was definitely born in Mombasa, Kenya. How did you learn that information?

INTERVIEWEE: Actually, it was prior to the presidential election when I had conversations with Atty. Philip Berg. He wanted to know if there was any way to find out if a certified copy of Obama’s Kenyan birth record could be obtained from any hospital in Kenya. We do a lot of business in that country and work very closely with the various ministries there as well as very high officials in the government, but the timing was such that the record had already been taken by Raila Odinga, the current prime minister of the country. I suppose if we had gone in there a month or so earlier, it might have still been possible for us to get it. It might still be possible to get it, but it would cost a lot of money and would be very, very difficult.

MRS. RONDEAU: Is there a way that you can be sure that Raila Odinga himself took personal custody of that birth record?

Cop Threatens to Kill Concealed Carry Gun Owner During Traffic Stop

A police officer’s dash cam in Canton, OH caught a disturbing exchange last month between a cop and a driver during a traffic stop. In it, the cop can be heard (and seen) berating a man for not telling the officer immediately that he had a concealed carry permit and thus a concealed weapon, even saying that he should have killed him. But there’s just one problem: the man tried several times but the officer cut him off.

That’s a problem. In Ohio (as in many states), the law requires concealed carry gun owners to immediately inform law enforcement if they have a weapon when they are pulled over. So when the man, named William, was not allowed to do so immediately, and the cop eventually found out, that created an issue.

“I could blast you in the mouth right now!” the officer says in the video after finding out about the man’s gun. “I’m so close to caving in your Godda**ed head,” he adds. “You fu** with me! You’re just a stupid human being!”

He continues: “Fu**ing talking to me with a Godd***ed gun! You want me to pull mine and stick it to your head? … I tell you what I should have done. As soon as I saw your gun I should have taken two steps back, pulled my Glock 40 and put ten bullets in your ass and let you drop.”

“And I wouldn’t have lost any sleep!” he screams.

The officer can also be heard threatening to “put lumps” on a woman also involved in the traffic stop.

There could have been NO American “Civil War” without Big Government!

The US Constitution brought the potential of big government at the federal level to America.

In my opinion…
It is the nature of big government itself that enables a hierarchy that oppresses we the people. Many have spoken of “working within the system”; and they very well know whereof they speak. There’s the rub. The system lends itself all too well to manipulation.

Our first constitution, the Articles Of Confederation, had no provision for a big federal government; no president, no congress, no supreme court, no taxes–these were the function solely of state government–and, of course, none of the federal departments and agencies, a standing army, etc. that later came into being.

By Lincoln’s time, federal government, under the new constitution had grown (mushroomed) along with the growth of the country and beyond…

Today, our biggest problems and complaints have to do with all of the above and more– all at the federal level, and al at the expense of state’s rights!

And, it has been chiefly since the civil war that federal big government has grown ever larger and even more oppressive.

The constitutional convention that met in secret in Philadelphia in 1787 was only to update The Articles Of Confederation, not to do away with it completely and replace it with a new constitution.

There were two major schools of thought involved at the ConCon, those of the Federalists and those of the Anti-Federalists…
And, the new constitution would never have come into being at all had not a Bill Of Rights been finally added.

The Constitution requires the constant vigilance of the people, otherwise it is corrupted by its officials and others and turned against the people themselves, as the founding fathers constantly warned.

The question is, or should be, should our original, first, constitution have been amended only as originally intended? Or was the new constitution a good thing, but carried too far?
Could/would federal government be controlled?

For good reason the (small government minded ) founding fathers didn’t envision a federal establishment beyond what was needed to provide necessary supplemental service to the state governments. At that time there were 13 states (countries) in the union.

(Yes, states are countries.) Now 50 countries!

And consider the following from the Constitutional Convention, etc.:

“…If Mr. Yates was correct in his assessment that his country, in 1787, was too large and extensive to be a workable consolidated “republic” what would he think of the territory we currently occupy, supposedly as a “republic” (but actually as a consolidated democracy)? If thirteen states were too many, with too much area for a workable republic to function correctly, what can we say for fifty states, plus whatever other territories we currently occupy?…”

Two billionaire magnates, the founds of huge successful enterprises, have dramatically spoken out against President Obama’s management of the economy. They have been joined in criticizing the president by several CEOs of big companies. Big Sister Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security have released an “unprejudiced” promotional video on airport security. That’s right, just about all of the “potential” terrorists in the video appear to be white, middle class, and male. To top it off, they really should have slapped Michele Bachmann buttons on the “terrorist’s” Ron Paul t-shirts. The next article I happened to come across was this story regarding Jesse Ventura entitled, ‘Ventura Threatens to Vacate US Over TSA Groping’. Ventura already spends much of the year in Mexico but is saying that if his case against the TSA is thrown out of court he will expatriate permanently.

It is interesting, also, where many of these like-minded people are going. They’ve all gone to either Latin America or Asia. In this blog I’ve stated many times how I believe those two areas are the places to be for the future.

Brent Bozell: Obama Lies About His Mother and the TV Networks Yawn

On July 3, 1999, The New York Times exposed Al Gore for lying about his family in a national convention speech as vice president of the United States. In 1996, Gore had moved the Democrats to tears by claiming that when his sister Nancy died of cancer in 1984, he vowed then and there to oppose the tobacco industry. How courageous – and completely untrue.

The Times found Gore campaigned in 1988 boasting of his tobacco-farming prowess. So he lied through his teeth. Network coverage from ABC, CBS, or NBC on this whopper, even as Gore prepared a presidential run? Zero.

On July 13, 2011, this cycle repeated itself, when The New York Times reported on another national Democrat lying about a death in the family in his convention address, presidential debates, just about everywhere. That was Barack Obama in 2008 claiming his mother Ann Dunham died of cancer battling with insurance companies all the way through. Dramatic? Yes. But an utter lie. Network coverage of this new jaw-dropper on ABC, CBS, and NBC? Also zip, zilch, zero.

How pathetic. This is the same set of networks that devote multiple heavy-breathing stories to “correcting” non-candidate Sarah Palin’s historical knowledge of Paul Revere, or Michele Bachmann’s location for the birthplace of John Wayne. But Obama lies about his mother – a shameless, pandering tug using his mother to get socialized health care, and they’re mute!

In a story published on page 16, reporter Kevin Sack explained “The White House on Wednesday declined to challenge an account in a new book” that Obama “mischaracterized a central anecdote about his mother’s deathbed dispute with her insurance company.” The headline said the book “challenges” the Obama story, and in the story they used the word “mischaracterized.” It was a whole lot more than that.

The new book, by Times reporter Janny Scott, is titled “A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother.” Scott quoted from correspondence from Ann Dunham to assert that the 1995 dispute concerned a Cigna disability insurance policy. Her actual health insurer had reimbursed most of her medical expenses without argument. The Times noted that although candidate Obama often suggested that Dunham “was denied health coverage because of a pre-existing condition, it appears from her correspondence that she was only denied disability coverage.”

Obama lied to an entire stadium of supporters in his August 28, 2008 convention speech. “As someone who watched my mother argue with insurance companies while she lay in bed dying of cancer,” he announced, “I will make certain those companies stop discriminating against those who are sick and need care the most.”

The same line was declared in the October 7, 2008 presidential debate, carried by all the networks like the convention speech. “For my mother to die of cancer at the age of 53 and have to spend the last months of her life in a hospital room, arguing with insurance companies because they’re saying that this may be a preexisting condition and they don’t have to pay her treatment, there’s something fundamentally wrong about that.” (Afterward, the networks brought their outrage to the slight that John McCain had described Obama as “that one.” They put on focus-group liberals who found the remark “picky and childish.”)

Obama also mentioned her in a 2007 campaign TV ad: “In those last painful months, she was more worried about paying her medical bills than getting well. I hear stories like hers every day.”

The Times went to liberal Harvard professor Robert Blendon to pronounce the obvious: if Obama’s phony storyline had been discovered during the 2008 campaign “people would have considered it a significant error.” Or not an error – a lie. Blendon added: “I just took for granted that it was a pre-existing condition health insurance issue.”

So did the entire American news media.

There’s one last interesting tidbit in the Times. Obama’s mother wrote to Cigna after they declined her claims that she had turned the case over to “my son and attorney, Barack Obama.” Scott could not determine from the documents she viewed whether Obama had ever written to Cigna on his mother’s behalf. Isn’t it interesting in all of Obama’s rhetoric about his mother’s insurance battles, he always left himself out of the storyline? Did this lawyer son ever get involved?

In the Bush years, media liberals (and even Joe Scarborough) suggested George W. Bush was dangerously stupid because he was so “intellectually incurious.” Our media are so incurious about the truth behind Obama’s often-mythical life story, one might ask “Are they dangerously stupid?”

Last week Republican senator John McCain called for the government to establish a special panel to come up with legislation to address supposed cybersecurity threats facing the United States.

“The only way to move comprehensive cyber security legislation forward swiftly is to have committee chairmen and ranking members step away from preserving their own committees’ jurisdiction … (and) develop a bill that serves the national security needs of all Americans,” McCain said.

As if on cue, the Pentagon announced two previously unpublicized attacks following McCain’s call for a bipartisan action.

On Thursday, out-going deputy secretary of defense Bill Lynn said a foreign intelligence service had stolen 24,000 files on a sensitive weapons system from a defense contractor’s network.

Lynn said the Defense Industrial Base Cyber Pilot was established to work with the private sector in the battle against cyber foes.

“Our success in cyberspace depends on a robust public-private partnership,” said Lynn. “The defense of the military will matter little unless our civilian critical infrastructure is also able to withstand attacks.”

Lynn cranked up the paranoia in February when he speculated that al-Qaeda might get its hands on the Stuxnet virus. He said “it is possible for a terrorist group to develop cyberattack tools on their own or to buy them on the black market.”

The highly sophisticated malware virus was engineered by the United States and with Israeli Mossad assistance placed on an Iranian industrial computer network in order to undermine the country’s nuclear energy program.

In 2009, Obama made a major speech on the threat posed by hackers and other evil doers.

Dissatisfaction and anger with the federal government are at a nearly 20-year high, according to the results of a new ABC News/Washington Post poll released Wednesday.

When asked how they felt about the federal government, 80 percent of poll respondents said that they felt dissatisfied or even angry about the work the government is doing. The last time such a peak of ill will was felt was during 1992′s economic slump, under President George Bush’s leadership.

The public’s slumping opinion of the country’s political class can be actively attributed to the negotiations surrounding the debt ceiling: The dissatisfaction numbers rocketed up 11 points between this month and last.

Indeed, congressional Republicans are facing the fire of poor public opinion. The ABC News/Washington Post poll shows a 28 percent approval rating for them, with 77 percent of participants saying the Republican leadership is unwilling to negotiate, further slowing debt talks.

A new promotional video released by the Department of Homeland Security characterizes white middle class Americans as the most likely terrorists, as Big Sis continues its relentless drive to cement the myth that mad bombers are hiding around every corner, when in reality Americans are just as likely to be killed by lightning strikes or peanut allergies.

The video is part of Homeland Security’s $10 million dollar “See Something, Say Something” program that encourages Americans to report “suspicious activity,” which in every case throughout history has been a trait of oppressive, dictatorial regimes.

In the course of the 10 minute clip, a myriad of different behaviors are characterized as terrorism, including opposing surveillance, using a video camera, talking to police officers, wearing hoodies, driving vans, writing on a piece of paper, and using a cell phone recording application.

Despite encouraging viewers not to pay attention to a person’s race in determining whether or not they may be a terrorist, almost all of the scenarios in the clip proceed to portray white people as the most likely terrorists. Bizarrely, nearly every single one of the “patriotic” Americans who reports on their fellow citizen is either black, Asian or Arab. Imagine if the video had portrayed every terrorist as an Arab and every patriotic snoop as white, there’d be an outcry and rightly so, but this strange reversal must have been deliberate on the part of the DHS, but why? Is this merely political correctness taken to the extreme or is something deeper at work?

Study: U.S. Marshals suited to be ‘Stability Police’ in U.S.

A study by the Rand Corp. within months of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama’s call for a “national civilian security force” that would be as big and as well-funded as the half-trillion dollar U.S. military confirms that there are several ways to create the suggested “Stability Police Force” so that it legally could operate inside the U.S. borders.

One of the top recommendations in the report was that the capacity and management operations of the U.S. Marshals Service be beefed up and handed the assignment.

“Given that it is unlikely that MPs [Military Police] would be permitted to perform civilian policing tasks in the United States, the Marshals Service, despite its capacity and management shortfalls, is the agency best suited to take on the SPF mission under the assumptions of this study.”

The study was released in 2009, only months after Obama made his presidential campaign call for a civilian force as big and as costly as the U.S. military.

In a speech in Colorado Springs, Obama said, “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we set. We’ve got have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

WND reported when a copy of Obama’s Colorado Springs speech posted online apparently was edited to exclude Obama’s specific references to the new force.

The opening of the Rand report was focused on providing “Stability Police Force” services outside of the U.S. borders. A company spokesman told WND that the report focused exclusively on the idea of a structure that could move into war-torn or riot-damaged cities or nations overseas and restore order.

However, a reading of the text of the report makes it clear that similar concerns about the behavior of U.S. residents were being evaluated, too.

Fox News Poll: More (Most) Say Obama Administration Making Economy Worse

Obama’s overall performance as president, and by double-digit margins they not only think the economy is getting worse, but also that it’s the Obama administration’s fault.

Some 45 percent of voters approve of the job President Obama is doing, while 46 percent disapprove, making this his lowest approval for the year so far. Previously, the president’s job rating was split evenly 46-46 (June 26-28, 2011).

A year ago, 43 percent approved and 48 percent disapproved of the president’s performance (13-14 July 2010).

These are just some of the findings from a Fox News poll released Wednesday.

Approval of the president among Democrats currently stands at 76 percent, which is just one percentage-point higher than his record low 75 percent approval among the party faithful (December 2010).

Among independents, 44 percent approve and 46 percent disapprove of Obama’s job performance.

Voters are more than twice as likely to say the economy is getting worse than to say it is getting better. The new poll found 58 percent of voters think the economy is getting worse. That’s up from 52 percent who felt that way last year and 42 percent in 2009.

Lib Congressman Wants A Voting Mandate– $10 Tax On Everyone Who Doesn’t Vote.

Has a liberal ever met a problem he didn’t throw money at?

Take U.S. Rep. Mike Capuano (D-Somerville). In a recent radio interview on 1510-AM, he addressed the problem (?) of America’s lack of civic engagement and low voter turnout.

“I think there is an obligation — not just a right, but an obligation — to vote,” Capuano said.

His solution? Money. Your money.

Capuano wants to “require people to vote,” but acknowledged that “we aren’t going to put people in jail.” So instead he came up with this idea:

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing to say everybody pays $10 and if you go to vote you get your $10 back. And if you don’t vote that money goes to support the election process.”

So you’re going to confiscate my 10 bucks and hold it hostage unless I show up at the polls? Congressman Capuano, I’ve got an even better idea. How about if we pay your supporters $10 not to vote? Then maybe we can keep this insanity out of Congress.

I’m not worried about this craziness becoming law . . . yet. While Capuano’s proposal is similar to the compulsory voting system in Australia (where the fine for not voting is around $20), fortunately for us, it’s unlikely to come to the United States.

For one thing, attorney Christian Adams, who runs the Election Law Center blog, assures me a scheme like this is almost certainly illegal.

“Vote buying is against the law,” Adams says, and “the definition of vote buying is ‘giving something of value for someone to vote.’ People have gone to jail for stuff like this.”

SENATE DEBT DEAL IS A FRAUD!

he new Gang of Six proposal brewing in the Senate is a total sellout which promises to usher in a vast new round of new taxes. Not just closing of loopholes, but real live taxes we will all have to pay.

The proposal is based on the recommendations of the Bowles-Simpson Deficit Reduction Commission as modified by the “Gang of Six” US Senators. It plans to raise $1 trillion in new tax revenues. While the gang is vague on the details of the new taxes, the Bowles-Simpson Commission was quite clear – it proposes the virtual elimination of all tax deductions, certainly for taxpayers with joint incomes of over $200,000 and possibly for everyone. The revenues it would generate from eliminating or sharply curtailing the mortgage interest, charitable, and state and local tax deductions are set to generate $1 trillion of new revenues over ten years and to finance a vague and unspecified hoped for cut in the top tax bracket.

The elimination or significant curtailment of these deductions would have a ruinous economic impact.

Cutting out the mortgage interest deduction would cost American taxpayers almost $100 billion a year. It would decimate the already moribund real estate sector and would make their current homes unaffordable for millions of homeowners by changing the financial rules in the middle of the game.

Restricting or eliminating the state and local tax deduction is, in effect, to levy a 25-35 percent surcharge on state and local taxes – income and property – hammering people who live in high tax states. The cost in jobs and state revenues are likely to be staggering.

Limiting the charitable donation deduction is the unkindest cut of all since it hurts precisely the poor people Obama and the Democrats say they most want to help. They apparently only favor help to the poor when it comes through the government and buys their votes.

But the most dangerous part of the proposal is that to establish a commission to monitor the deficit reduction measures to assure that they unfold as planned. Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, has been pushing this idea for more than a year now hoping to equip the commission with automatic authority to cut spending and to raise taxes without legislative authorization. It would allow a tax increase without requiring any member of Congress to vote for it.

The House has taken a bold and important step in passing the “Cut, Cap and Balance” plan to deal with the deficit. By cutting spending, capping it as a proportion of GDP, and passing a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, the House Republicans have put the perfect plan on the table. They should not blink in the face of the Senate proposal but should stand up and demand that their leadership not be gulled into signing on to any variation of the Gang of Six plan.

One hopes that the Republican voters in the states the Republican accomplices of Conrad represent remember their decision to cast their lots with the Democratic members of the Gang to derail the House proposal and to add momentum to this monstrous deal. They are: Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho, Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Senator Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, and Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. They all deserve a primary when they run again.

PREDICTION: HOW THE DEBT DEBATE WILL UNFOLD

1. The Senate leaders from both parties and President Obama will coalesce around the Gang of Six deal based on the recommendations of the Bowles-Simpson Deficit Reduction Commission.

2. After initially voicing reservations, House Speaker John Boehner and, perhaps, Majority Leader Eric Cantor will sign off on the deal in return for some unimportant modifications.

3. When the deal reaches the House floor, all hell will break loose and the rank and file Republicans will revolt en masse. Defying their leadership, they will reject the Gang of Six deal in caucus.

4. The House Democrats, who could provide the votes to pass the bill when their ranks are added to those Boehner-loyalists who back the proposal, will refuse to go along unless there are equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats voting for the Gang of Six proposal. Not wanting the albatross of passing the gang’s proposal as a Democratic plan, they will withhold the votes on the House floor for its passage. Boehner won’t bring it up for a vote.

5. The deadlock in the House will push the government beyond the August 2nd deadline and Obama will be forced to admit that it was a phony date all along. He will suddenly “discover” enough coming in via tax collections to pay for the debt service but other functions of government will have to be trimmed back or halted after the debt limit fails to pass.

6. Then a stalemate will ensue in which the House Republicans will call Obama’s bluff and stand firm against caving in to more tax increases.

7. And then???? Who knows who will win that standoff. The debt limit will go up. Really conservative Republicans will still be outraged. So will really liberal Democrats. But the majority of both parties will vote to pass it. And everyone will debate who the winner was politically.

President What’s-His-Name (The epic fail that is the Obama regime)

There’s a millstone hanging around the neck of the US economy.

And his name is Barack Obama.

Blame Bush if you want, but post-9/11, Bush’s policies got the country moving in the right direction after a hard right hook.

Blame Bush if you must, but the “blame Bush” mantra isn’t going down well with voters across the country. A new survey released by Fox News and conducted jointly by Democrat and Republican firms says that a large majority of voters think that the time for blaming Bush is over, including a majority of swing voters.

“Meanwhile, a 58-percent majority thinks it is unfair for President Obama to continue to blame former President George W. Bush for the country’s economic problems,” says Fox News. “Thirty-six percent think it is still fair — including 6 percent of Republicans. A majority of independents (61 percent) and 28 percent of Democrats think it is unfair for Obama to keep blaming Bush.”

You know why? Because the buck stops on the president’s desk.

Every time someone blames Bush, they just reinforce how irrelevant President Scholarship has been.

President Invest-in-Clean-Energy has pretty much had it his own way since he was coronated. He spent the money he asked for. If he wanted more, he had two years to ask for it, and Congress would have given it to him.

And despite brave talk from President High-Speed-Rail, he was better at writing books than he has been at being president. At least in reading the books, I could fall asleep.

Ah, yes, just another thing Sarah Palin was right about that the mainstream media couldn’t sniff out for themselves. I guess going to all those colleges worked out better for Palin than having say, one journalism degree and working at one job- journalism- your whole life.

Betcha five bucks that one year under a Palin presidency- or a Bachmann, a Perry, a Romney, or a Huntsman presidency, or a (Bill) Clinton regency- that the unemployment arrow will be pointing the right way.

Only an ideologue, tied to academic leftist-dogma, could be proud of such a disastrous record as President-Eat-My-Peas-and-Like-it. And apparently he’s pursued all these goals on purpose.

And here’s the most damning thing about President Class-Warrior: The only people making money so far are the stock traders. Every time I turn around, the stock market is threatening to make new two-year highs, companies are reporting record earnings and even evil banks are reporting profits. Things are going swimmingly on Wall Street.

Oh, and did I tell you President Fundraiser broke a presidential fundraising record?

Hmm. I wonder who donated? Wall Street maybe? Guys with names like Soros and Buffet are doing great. That’s what happens when the federal government announces a $600 billion bond purchase program in advance.

That’ll give the well-heeled billionaire or fund manager just a little extra for, ah, you know…donations. Well that’s what they call them in Chicago, ha ha. And it worked so well the first time, they did it again.

And why doesn’t it surprise me that President Balanced-Budget raised a record $49 million but spent a record $80 million?

Cuz, ya know, Main Street ain’t so hot right now.

The people who are left out in the cold are the vast middle-class, and it includes people who make more than $250,000 a year. People like that, under the right president, can create jobs for the rest of us better than President Tax-the-Rich can with the entire power of the federal government at his disposal. We know that for sure now. Got it?

Because whether you’re a Democrat, a Republican or a swing voter- I’m talking about voters here- President I-Killed-Osama-bin-Laden-Personally, either created this economy on purpose or created it by accident.

It’s time to pick one.

And let the buck stop where it may.

Our Military’s Grim State: Armed Forces Under Stress

This is the grim state of our military’s readiness: An Air Force F-15C that broke in half during flight, two F-18s that have caught fire aboard ships, every single cruiser with cracks in its hull, A-10C Warthogs with fuselage cracks, the UH-1N Twin Huey helicopter fleet that is regularly grounded, and over half the navy’s deployed aircraft not ready for combat.

That is the picture of the U.S. military in disrepair—what The Heritage Foundation’s Mackenzie Eaglen calls a “readiness crisis” among all U.S. military services, including the National Guard and reserves. Readiness is “dangerously lower,” she writes, leading to “delayed, shortened, and less diverse training; plugging personnel and equipment shortfalls in deploying units with resources from others; reduced maintenance for worn-out equipment; and shortened rest time before redeploying overseas.”

How did the military get here? A decade of constant combat and ever-increasing disaster relief and homeland defense missions has contributed to the decline in readiness, and Eaglen writes in AOL Defense that the navy is under particular strain:

While the fleet has shrunk by about 15 percent since 1998, the number of ships deployed overseas has remained constant at about 100. Each ship goes to sea longer and more often, resulting in problems such as the well-publicized shortfalls in surface ship condition. With no surge capacity left in the fleet, each new casualty ripples through the schedules of dozens of ships. With the end of supplemental funding, Navy maintenance funding will be cut by almost 20 percent this year. In this context, a relatively small additional reduction in maintenance funding could render a Navy with 250 to 280 ships capable of keeping only 50 to 60 ships at sea.

Epic Fail: Cloward-Piven and Obama’s Engineered Destruction of America’s Economy

We hear these same economic arguments all the time these days, to the point that these virtual and actual ideological skirmishes often take on an almost Ground Hog Day-ish repetitive cycle of nauseating repetition. The Political Right says “spend less,” the Political Left says “tax more,” so that, ultimately, many Americans are left feeling measurably unsure, if not completely confused, as to what the proper course of action should actually be for America as a nation, when in fact it’s not so terribly difficult.

Over these past few weeks, we have also further witnessed a depressing number of moderate Republicans, as well as an equally impressive number of middling Liberals, essentially second-guessing their own positions throughout these economic debates. Maybe not so much outwardly–but rather in a passing glimpse, a splinter of doubt in the the mind’s eye or even a certain identifiable hesitance in their verbal tirades. Both sides doubting what they have formerly held to be as sacrosanct and undeniable. Perhaps that doubt can be actively identified as where compromise begins taking form, or could this spate of heavily veiled penance also be where a correctable mistake begins to snowball into a ground-skipping comet of fiscal oblivion?

Put in another way, what if we as a Nation are looking in all the wrong places in order to find the true answers to the Nation’s economic problems? There is an old saying that goes something to the effect that “if everyone is thinking the same thing, then no one is actually thinking.” With some, it now appears that America has reached a sort of aggregated professional lunacy as to the true facts that may be in play. As we have alluded to increasingly throughout this current President’s term, there appears to be much, much, more to our economic morass than meets the proverbial eye.

A Bizarre Approach

When we realistically look at the performance of our Executive Branch up to this point, we see what could be termed as an ostensibly bizarre approach to all things economic and otherwise. When we should be doing one thing in reaction to some ever-present mushrooming dilemma, our leadership often takes an opposite tack that actually worsens a given situation rather than ameliorating it. Take for instance the subprime lending debacle that in large part placed our economy into this position in the first place. The Obama team’s reaction was to vastly over-regulate the mortgage industry and even add staff bank regulators to various bank branch offices in order to intensively micro-manage each and every loan.

So, at a time when our Nation’s building industry, which is one of the major engines of America’s economy, needed to be aided and fortified in every officious manner possible, the White House put forth draconian measures to essentially restrict and even hasten the down-fall of our residential builders, thereby also denying families needed housing…but then again, not exactly all families it would seem, as we are now given to understand.Even after the sub-prime lending scandal came to be understood as the forge by which our economy was hammered into submission, the Obama Department of Justice recently began enforcing a bizarre impetus to actually punish banks which are not making enough sub-prime loans. According to an Investors Business Daily July 8th article, the US Attorney General is even now launching a witch hunt in order to prosecute lenders who fail to originate loans to minorities with poor credit.

The penalties against the banking industry thus far have amounted to over $ 20 million in loan subsidies and set-asides by banks which have elected the cases to be settled out of court, rather than being branded with the dreaded racist label. An additional 60 banks are even now under investigation. One of the main themes at play in the underwriting of these loans? No job, no problem…and here we go again, but at the worst of all possible times.

In fact, the theme at play when we look at almost every problem that exists, speaks to an administration that seeks to take an existing problem, whatever it may be, twist it around and then needlessly complicate that same problem into an unsolvable nightmare of epic fail proportions. We could look at Obama’s failure to drill and the blocking of oil leases and permits with regard to our often dour energy situation as evidence.

If we see the spectre of hyper-inflation staring us down, the administration establishes quantitative easing exercises, which, in effect, prints even more money, thereby lowering the dollar’s value, while intensifying inflationary trends magnitudinally the world over. If we worry over the world’s establishing a new reserve currency other than the US dollar, our treasury chief actually seconds and even approves of the notion– sparking a go-ahead for the UN to seek the possible alternatives thereby dooming current efforts.

Judge Says BP Can’t See White House Emails on Gulf Oil Spill

A federal magistrate refused Wednesday to order the White House to provide BP PLC with emails by a former top adviser to President Barack Obama about the administration’s response to last summer’s massive Gulf oil spill.

A lawyer for the oil giant had argued that emails by Carol Browner, Obama’s former adviser on energy and climate matters, and three other officials in the Executive Office of the President could shed light on the White House’s role in estimating the rate of oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico from the company’s blown-out well.

But U.S. Magistrate Sally Shushan wrote that BP failed to show that it needed the White House’s internal documents.

In a letter to Shushan, BP said it should be allowed to review the White House communications on the spill’s flow rate because the data will help determine the company’s financial liability.

“There is compelling evidence Ms. Browner was personally and substantially involved in the decision-making process that produced the United States’ estimates of oil flow rates and oil spill volumes,” the company wrote.

Progressivism: Socialism and Democracy are one in the same

Ann Coulter recently wrote a book regarding the left’s mob mentality. Well, what does the mob want? Other people’s money. Watch them riot. What do they do? They try to grab as much of other peoples’ money as they can.

In 1887, Woodrow Wilson wrote an essay titled “Socialism and Democracy”. It’s very short, I recorded the entire thing in 13 minutes. Here is what Wilson has to say:

Roundly described, socialism is a proposition that every community, by means of whatever forms of organization may be most effective for the purpose, see to it for itself that each one of its members finds the employment for which he is best suited and is rewarded according to his diligence and merit, all proper surroundings of moral influence being secured to him by the public authority. ‘State socialism’ is willing to act though state authority as it is at present organized. It proposes that all idea of a limitation of public authority by individual rights be put out of view, and that the State consider itself bound to stop only at what is unwise or futile in its universal superintendence alike of individual and of public interests. The thesis of the states socialist is, that no line can be drawn between private and public affairs which the State may not cross at will; that omnipotence of legislation is the first postulate of all just political theory.

Applied in a democratic state, such doctrine sounds radical, but not revolutionary. It is only an acceptance of the extremest logical conclusions deducible from democratic principles long ago received as respectable. For it is very clear that in fundamental theory socialism and democracy are almost if not quite one and the same. They both rest at bottom upon the absolute right of the community to determine its own destiny and that of its members. Men as communities are supreme over men as individuals.

It gets worse:

Democracy is bound by no principle of its own nature to say itself nay as to the exercise of any power. Here, then, lies the point. The difference between democracy and socialism is not an essential difference, but only a practical difference — is a difference of organization and policy, not a difference of primary motive. Democracy has not undertaken the tasks which socialists clamour to have undertaken; but it refrains from them, not for lack of adequate principles or suitable motives, but for lack of adequate organization and suitable hardihood: because it cannot see its way clear to accomplishing them with credit.

Seeing this, now it becomes so clear as to why so many modern progressives have as their rallying cry – “democracy”. If they can just re-organize society so that it tells you what to do, how, when and so forth to do it, and it’s all passed into law in a democratic way, then they can justify their beliefs because they’ve been enshrined into law.

As if anybody can truly argue that the rule of law has triumphed here.

ITS OFFICIAL! Herman Cain’s Campaign is Done — Stick A Fork In It !

Herman we hardly knew you. On first hearing about Herman Cain‘s candidacy it was exciting. What a resume, good on the stump, conservative ideals, worked for the federal govt but really became famous as a business executive who turned around companies in trouble…heck he saved Godfather’s Pizza and I love pizza, that alone gave him extra points in my book.

Cain showed so much promise, he was good on the stump and was even better during the first debate, but now his campaign is dead, he may not know it yet but all that’s left is for it to fall over. The cause of death is the same as so many presidential campaigns before him, known in the Latin as Bardus Superstitiosus Orationes (stupid bigoted statements).

The first hint that Cain’s mouth did not have a self-control switch is when he announced that he would not appoint a Muslim to his cabinet. Now a president’s cabinet is supposed to act as his closest advisers, and he should be able to pick whoever he trusted most to fill those positions. But making a public claim that he will pick his advisers based on religion even if it were true, showed problem with his brain’s “Warning You Are About To Say Something Really, Really Dumb” switch.

Cain seemed to back off that original statement last month, he started saying that he would appoint Muslims as long as they stated their loyalty was to America. He supported that by saying he would make that same loyalty judgment about all of his appointees, no matter what the religion. Something that sounded reasonable if it was the first thing he said, but coming after the “won’t appoint Muslims at all” comment, it seemed hollow. As long as he didn’t make the same mistake again the Cain campaign was still alive.

But sufferers of Bardus Superstitiosus Orationes usually find a way to become repeat offenders, and Herman Cain is no different.

This weekend Herman Cain was interviewed by Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. The former Godfather Pizza Executive doubled-down on his opposition to a mosque in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and he showed a disturbing lack of knowledge about the first Amendment to the constitution.

“Our constitution guarantees separation of church and state,” said Cain. “Islam combines church and state. They are using the church part of our First Amendment to infuse their mosque in the community and people in the community don’t like it. They disagree with it. Sharia law is what they are trying to infuse.” Cain makes the same mistake that the ACLU types every year around Christmas. There is no Constitutional separation of Church and State. This is what the first amendment to the constitution says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. See not there! Whether you agree with the ACLU that there should be a separation of Church and State or not, any first year law student should know the original reason for the religion part of the first amendment was to keep the Federal government from trying to control religion. Many of the individual states already had an “official” religion, and the founders were worried about the Federal Government supplanting that local authority.

Like many Americans, I have a problem with Muslims who wish to make Sharia law public policy, the civil rule must take precedence over everything. However Sharia law being observed within the context of a Mosque is allowed under the Constitution as long as that law is subservient to civil law. Remember the amendment is supposed to protect the religion from government, not the other way around. Constitutionally the above statement would also be true if the words Sharia law were removed and Halachic Law (Jewish religious law) was substituted. It does not mater of there are parts of fundamental Sharia Law are particularly brutal as long as the government enforces the fact that a particular code of religious law is subservient to civil law no one will be allowed to be brutalized and everyone’s right will be protected.

So Herman Cain is wrong about the constitution here, and even worse that little speech filter failed him again. But Cain wasn’t done (if you cannot see two videos below click here):

AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ERROR

It is with a modicum of embarrassment that I lead off this article with a bit of mea culpa in regard to a piece of misinformation that was included in my last writing, The State of the Nation. In that composition I imputed the following quote to George W. Bush: “The Constitution is just a goddam piece of paper.” That contention was in fact not just a misstatement, but rather a repeating of a complete fabrication that was picked up and stated as gospel.

George W. Bush – who seems lately to have taken on a mythical persona as the great patriotic deliverer of the nation from an also mythical scenario of a near total destruction at the hands of a disorganized rabble of Islamic Jihadists – said and did many stupid things, but he did not make that statement. It is essential in a civilized society that one respect the truth, this especially in a time when it seems that none from the president and the congress on down looks upon the truth as a virtue or an admirable quality. As my dear departed Mother would say, “Be that as it may my dear, it is necessary and important that one always speaks the truth.” And so I make my amends to George and to my readers for that delusive quote.

If old George’s reign had not been such a total disaster I might in fact be conscience-stricken, but since nearly everything that he did as president was absolutely calamitous and contrary to the preservation of the Constitution and the Republic the remorse factor of my confession has been greatly mitigated.

The Ideologue in the Oval Office

“I think increasingly the American people are going to say to themselves, ‘You know what? If a party or a politician is constantly taking the position my-way-or-the-highway, constantly being locked into ideologically rigid positions, that we’re going to remember at the polls,’” President Obama said at his Friday news conference.

I know everyone is sick of hearing about the debt-limit negotiations. Lord knows I am. When I turn on the news these days, I feel like one of the passengers seated next to Robert Hays in the movie “Airplane!” By the time we get to the phrase “in the out years,” I’m ready to pour a can of gasoline over my head.

Still, regardless of how things turn out with the negotiations, what we are witnessing is the rollout of the Obama re-election campaign’s theme: Obama is the pragmatic voice of reason holding the ideologues at bay.

So it’s worth asking, before this branding campaign gels into the conventional wisdom: Who is the real ideologue here?

The president, we are told, is a pragmatist for wanting a “fair and balanced” budget deal. What that means is tax increases must accompany spending cuts. Any significant spending cuts would be way in the future. The tax increases would begin right after Obama is re-elected.

Now keep in mind that tax hikes (or what the administration calls “revenue increases”) are Obama’s idee fixe. He campaigned on raising taxes for millionaires and billionaires (defined in the small print as people making more than $200,000 a year or couples making $250,000).

During a primary debate, he was asked by ABC’s Charles Gibson if he would raise the capital gains tax even if he knew that cutting it would generate more revenue for the government. The non-ideologue responded that raising the tax, even if doing so would lower revenue, might be warranted out of “fairness.” As he said to Joe the Plumber, things are better when you “spread the wealth around.”

Earlier last week, referring to the fact that he is rich, the president said: “I do not want, and I will not accept, a deal in which I am asked to do nothing. In fact, I’m able to keep hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional income that I don’t need.”

Leaving aside the fact that the man lives in public housing and has a government jet at his disposal — so his definition of “need” might be a bit out of whack — what is pragmatic about this position?

Obama says that Republicans are rigid ideologues because they won’t put “everything on the table.” Specifically, they won’t consider tax hikes, even though polls suggest Americans wouldn’t mind soaking “the rich,” “big oil” and “corporate jet owners.”

But Obama hasn’t put everything on the table either. He’s walled off “ObamaCare” and the rest of his “winning the future” agenda.

If Obama believes the American people are the voice of reason when it comes to tax hikes, why does their opinion count for nothing when it comes to ObamaCare, which has never been popular? (According to a RealClearPolitics average of polls, only 38.6 percent of voters favor the plan.) Why not look for some savings there?

Consider the frustration of the supposedly ideologically locked-in GOP Congress. In 2008, the national debt was 40 percent of GDP. Now it’s more than 60 percent, and it is projected to reach 75 percent next year, all thanks to a sour economy the GOP feels Obama made worse with incontinent spending.

Republicans won a historic election last November campaigning against the spending, borrowing, tax hikes and ObamaCare. Yet Obama’s position is that the Republicans are deranged dogmatists because they don’t want to raise taxes or borrow more money to pay for spending they opposed. And Obama is flexible because he refuses to revisit a program that has never been popular.

Meanwhile, the sole example of Obama’s pragmatism — that he has publicly acknowledged — is his openness to means-testing Medicare, which may not be a bad idea. But Obama’s support for it rests entirely on the fact that it would continue to tax upper-income people for benefits they will no longer receive. So, in addition to taxing the “rich” more, he also wants to give them less. I know why liberals would support that, but for the life of me I can’t see how it’s non-ideological

The interviewee stated that his coworkers were told by an assistant to an under-secretary within the Kenyan government that Obama’s birth record existed in Kenya, and that the information was not difficult at the time to obtain.

Gay Indoctrination in CA

The California governor has signed into law a bill that will not simply require a “gay history” curriculum. It requires a form of “indoctrination” that will label Christianity as being intolerant and bigoted, one critic says.

“The bill is not about teaching gay history. That’s what the sponsors of the bill are portraying it as. That is not the language of the bill. That is not what it does, that’s not the intent,” William B. May, head of the San Francisco-based Catholics for the Common Good, told EWTN News on July 15.

While the history of the gay rights movement would be covered in history books as history, he said, the bill’s curriculum standards require “bringing to the attention of students the sexuality of people in history and social studies, who happen to be gay, lesbian, transgender or bisexual.”

“It also has the effect of making sure that they are portrayed in a good light,” May continued. “It’s really an indoctrination bill that is being totally misrepresented by the politicians and by the media.”

Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill into law on July 14 after it passed the Democrat-controlled legislature on a largely party-line vote.

“We’re disappointed that the governor signed it,” May said. “It’s a troubling precedent for politicians to dictate what’s in textbooks.”

Democratic state Sen. Mark Leno of San Francisco, the bill’s author, said that teaching gay history in public schools will teach students to be more accepting of gays and lesbians.

“We should not be afraid to teach our children of the broad diversity of human experience,” Sen. Leno said, according to Fox News. “It’s not going away, it’s always been with us. We have different kinds of people, who are, under law, to be treated equally. Why would we not want to teach our children this?”

He compared opponents to those who criticized curriculum requirements for ethnic and women’s studies.

However, May warned that the curriculum requirements will have adverse effects on groups that disapprove of homosexual behavior.

“This bill will contribute to Christianity coming under attack in the classroom as being intolerant, bigoted, and standing in the way of progress,” he told CNA. “This is part of a broader agenda to redefine love, relationships, marriage and family.”

He noted the related public debate about bullying, which he called “a serious problem” that “needs to be dealt with directly.”

He rejected the claim that curriculum requirements would reduce bullying.

“It’s absurd to think that teaching about the sexual characteristics or sexual orientation of people in history is going to have any bearing on that,” he continued.

Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles has also criticized the bill. In a July 5 column, he called it “another example of the government interfering with parents’ rights to be their children’s primary educators.”

The bill could have national effects. Because of California’s size and influence, many textbook publishers adjust their products to meet California curriculum standards.

May said the bill’s passage into law is “just one more wake-up call for the need to organize.”

He pointed out that Catholics for the Common Good has launched projects like Stand with Children, a marriage advocacy program.

It is also organizing a program called Faith in Action, which consists of small formation and support groups for “not just defending marriage and family, but promoting it.”

Utah Park Ranger Pulls Woman Over for Driving Slow, Arrests Her for Trying to Film the Stop

Utah Park Ranger Steven Powers marked the 4th of July by pulling a woman over for driving too slowly, then yanking her out of her car and slapping on cuffs when the woman insisted on filming the stop with her phone. Unfortunately for Powers, that woman happened to be Celia Sullivan, “a longtime Photography is Not a Crime reader,” according to the site’s proprietor, Carlos Miller.

Sullivan is also 50 years old, a mother of two, and about as non-threatening a person as any cop could hope to interact with while miles away from backup. While Powers apparently thought Sullivan was driving under the influence, she was actually driving so slowly because she had lost her camera tripod on the side of the road.

I told PRSP (Park Ranger Steven Powers) that I was going to record him and said just a minute, let me grab my phone. PRSP decided that he didn’t have to be patient with me (like a good cop would), which is when he opened the door to my vehicle without my permission. I remember telling him just a second, I’m grabbing the documents and I grabbed my wallet too. I WAS NOT SCARED AT ALL. I was irritated but had no problem getting out of the vehicle but I was going to protect myself just in case. I had nothing to fear if he was good cop, and the video WOULD protect me if he was a bad cop.

And I remember telling him the video was for MY PROTECTION. I didn’t know what kind of person PRSP was, and he had a taser AND a gun.

I was all alone. Don’t forget that.

PRSP didn’t like the fact I was getting ready to record things because he grabbed my left wrist in an attempt to get me to drop the phone. I then said I can get out the car by myself, and turned and placed my feet on the ground and stood. This is where I complied with BOTH of his direct orders: I was out of the car, and I had my papers with me.

But he didn’t give me a chance to do anything else since he still had a hold of my wrist. With one motion, he twisted my left arm around to my back, and then at the same time saying you are under arrest for disobeying a direct order. I sank to my knees, dropped my papers phone and wallet and said over and over again you’ve got to be kidding, you’ve got to be kidding, are you kidding me.

Miller says that Sullivan was charged with “disobeying a lawful order” and “resisting arrest,” and was kept in handcuffs for 90 minutes before being released. To paraphrase Radley Balko, (not) another isolated incident.

Political donations by News Corp., its employees and their families were evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, with President Obama the all-time leading recipient, according to a report from the Sunlight Foundation.

The transparency watchdog noted Tuesday that Democrats received 51 percent of contributions while Republicans received 49 percent, despite the firm’s highly publicized links to the GOP, such as a $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association in August.

News Corp. is the parent company of The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and Fox News, among others. The firm is currently under scrutiny in both the U.S. and U.K. over allegations its subsidiary News of the World hacked into voice mail accounts and bribed public officials.

“Obama being listed as the company’s top recipient might surprise some people because of its highly publicized involvement with his political rivals, like Sarah Palin who was the vice presidential candidate in 2008 and reportedly still under contract with Murdoch-owned Fox News as a paid commentator,” wrote Sunlight’s Ryan Sibley.

Sibley said News Corp. has spent $8.2 million since 1997 lobbying on issues such as net neutrality and privacy. He also points out the top recipients from the firm’s political action committee, News America Holdings, in the 2009-10 election cycle were Reps. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Howard Berman (D-Calif.) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

Tucker Carlson on Tuesday said, “Very few people have done more to divide the country than Chris Matthews.”

Such occurred on Fox‘s “Hannity” show as the Great American Panel discussed the “Hardball” host’s deplorable interview with Congressman Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) earlier in the day (video follows with transcript and commentary):

SEAN HANNITY, HOST: Ooh. Thrill up my, that was a good line.

TUCKER CARLSON, DAILY CALLER: It’s excruciating for Chris to listen to other people talk for once. You could see the kind of pain in his face. But, you know, he’s spent the last couple years just sucking up to this guy, sniffing his throne, really, kind of, in an obsequious embarrassing way humiliating himself on behalf of Obama. The Clinton Tapes and TWA Flight 800

About once a month over the course of his presidency Bill Clinton would unburden himself to Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Taylor Branch.

Last year, Branch published the taped revelations, heavily edited and embellished with his own commentary, in an overpraised but useful volume called “The Clinton Tapes.”

I say “overpraised” because anyone who knows the underside of the Clinton White House can see how Branch allowed, even encouraged, Clinton to spin a selectively remembered, self-absolving account of his presidency.

I say “useful” because every now and then Branch caught up with Clinton before the White House has had a chance to shape the narrative.

For instance, Branch scheduled a visit with Clinton for the night of April 19, 1995. Earlier that day, a truck bomb took out the Murrah building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people, most of them federal workers.

Clinton shocked Branch by keeping his appointment. The two old friends talked for hours. The phrase “painful loss” came up between them only in reference to the Arkansas defeat in the NCAA basketball tournament.

Clinton spent but a few minutes on Oklahoma City. The reader learns that the only person Clinton spoke to at the scene was Oklahoma’s “right-wing Republican” governor, Frank Keating. That’s it.

Branch returned to a more cheerful White House a month later. He opens this chapter with a revealing sentence: “Oklahoma City did not lead overseas as President Clinton had feared, but domestic terror did spawn confusion and denial.”

This translates: Clinton did not want the investigation to lead overseas especially when he could exploit the two white, right wing suspects—Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols—for all their political capital.

DeMint warns that the tea party is losing ‘focus’

“I really don’t know,” DeMint said. “As I move around, people are telling me they’re out there and they’re engaged, but since the election they have not had as much of a focus.”

In 2009 and 2010, thousands of people took to the streets in cities around the country under the tea party banner to protest President Obama’s legislative agenda. But since Republicans took control of the House and beefed up their ranks in the Senate, participation at tea party rallies—and the number of rallies themselves—has waned. Republicans in Congress are now embroiled in a debate over reducing federal spending in return for a vote to raise the debt ceiling. DeMint has led the charge in the Senate, demanding a constitutional amendment that would force the federal government to balance its budget annually. But he said it’s crucial for the tea party to pressure other Republicans looking to compromise.

If they don’t, DeMint suggested, it could be an indicator that the tea party is losing steam.

“We’ve got well over 100 outside groups and well over 100 tea party groups that are focused on this Cut, Cap, Balance and we’ll see in the next few days if they still have the energy and the passion to affect policy here in Washington,” he said. “If we can’t move some votes in the House and Senate with that, it’s going to be a little bit discouraging right now. It’s not only make or break time for Republicans, it’s make or break time for the tea party.”

“I’m looking for some signals that they’re not only still awake, but that they’ve gained power,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll see them.”

Wynn’s Rant: One Among Many

Business: Las Vegas CEO Steve Wynn drew attention for a boardroom rant denouncing the intolerable business climate fostered by the White House. He’s hardly the first. What’s happening is emblematic of a bigger problem.

In a Monday conference call, the casino magnate credited with revitalizing Las Vegas blasted President Obama, declaring him “the greatest wet blanket to business, progress and job creation in my lifetime.”

The blast was remarkable for two reasons: Wynn has been a staunch supporter of the Obama administration from the beginning and still considers himself a Democrat. But even more remarkable, it’s been out of character for CEOs such as Wynn to express their views in such blunt terms on political matters.

“A lot of people don’t want to say that,” he said. “They’ll say, ‘Oh God, don’t be attacking Obama.’ Well, this is Obama’s deal, and it’s Obama that’s responsible for this fear in America,” said Wynn. “The guy keeps making speeches about redistribution, and maybe ‘we ought to do something to businesses that don’t invest or (are) holding too much money.’ We haven’t heard that kind of talk except from pure socialists.”

Business is being hammered, he said. “And I’m telling you that the business community in this country is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the president of the United States.”

Wynn’s words resonate because America’s weak economic growth and high unemployment can be laid in large part to the inexperience of this president and his just-as-callow advisers.

In such a climate, it’s no surprise that executive outbursts are erupting like lava from scorched earth. Wynn’s remarks echo those on a lengthening list of CEOs including:

“Who Is A “Natural Born Citizen”?

So I’m on the O’Reilly Factor and I say if the Republicans don’t put Marco Rubio on their national ticket they need to get their heads examined. Such is my regard for the freshman senator from Florida.

What followed were emails from people who told me that Rubio can’t be vice president because the Constitution says only “natural born citizens” can be president or vice president, and he doesn’t fit the description.

Some went a tad further. Ray said I need to “wake up.” Gregor – who signed his name “American by Birth – Patriot by Choice” said my comment about Rubio was both “uneducated” and “foolish.” Edward said, “I’m sure you have read the Constitution but I urge you to reread Article I, Section II which gives the qualifications for president.” David simply stated that, “Neither of Marco Rubio’s parents were citizens of our country when he was born. Therefore, Marco Rubio is not a Natural Born Citizen of the United States.”

I’m always amused when I get letters from self-appointed “scholars” who have no doubt – none! – about how knowledgeable they are when it comes to constitutional law even though not one of them spent even 10 minutes in law school. How do I know? If they had, trust me, they would have mentioned it – IN CAPITAL LETTERS!

Many of these people, I suspect, have another agenda, which I’ll get to shortly. But first …

The Constitution does not define the term “natural born citizen.” And as Wikipedia explains, “scholars and politicians have not agreed as to whether U.S.-born children of non-citizens … qualify as natural born citizens.”

Also from Wikipedia: “The natural born citizen clause has been mentioned in passing in several decisions of the United States Supreme Court and lower courts, but the Supreme Court has never directly addressed the question of a specific presidential or vice-presidential candidate’s eligibility as a natural born citizen.”

So what did the Founders have in mind when they used that term they didn’t bother to define? Well, after the Constitution was ratified, some of the Founders opined about the meaning of the clause. Here’s what James Madison, one of the authors of the Constitution, had to say on the subject in a speech before the House of Representatives in May 1789: MORE HERE

PERSON WHOSE COMPANY DOES BUSINESS IN KENYA: “WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE INFORMATION”

(Jul. 19, 2011) — Recently The Post & Email was contacted by someone who stated that he was told by very reliable business contacts within his company that they were provided information before the 2008 presidential election that Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Mombasa, Kenya. The interviewee stated that his coworkers were told by an assistant to an under-secretary within the Kenyan government that Obama’s birth record existed in Kenya, and that the information was not difficult at the time to obtain. The following is our interview with the individual:

MRS. RONDEAU: Thank you for contacting us regarding the knowledge which you said you have that Obama II was definitely born in Mombasa, Kenya. How did you learn that information?

INTERVIEWEE: Actually, it was prior to the presidential election when I had conversations with Atty. Philip Berg. He wanted to know if there was any way to find out if a certified copy of Obama’s Kenyan birth record could be obtained from any hospital in Kenya. We do a lot of business in that country and work very closely with the various ministries there as well as very high officials in the government, but the timing was such that the record had already been taken by Raila Odinga, the current prime minister of the country. I suppose if we had gone in there a month or so earlier, it might have still been possible for us to get it. It might still be possible to get it, but it would cost a lot of money and would be very, very difficult.

MRS. RONDEAU: Is there a way that you can be sure that Raila Odinga himself took personal custody of that birth record?

Kidney dopamine regulates blood pressure, life span

The neurotransmitter dopamine is best known for its roles in the brain – in signaling pathways that control movement, motivation, reward, learning and memory.

Now, Vanderbilt University Medical Center investigators have demonstrated that dopamine produced outside the brain – in the kidneys – is important for renal function, blood pressure regulation and life span. Their studies, published in the July Journal of Clinical Investigation, suggest that the kidney-specific dopamine system may be a therapeutic target for treating hypertension and kidney diseases such as diabetic nephropathy.

Previous studies had suggested a role for dopamine in regulating kidney function and total body fluid volume, “but how that mechanism works was not clear,” said Raymond Harris, M.D., chief of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Vanderbilt.

To explore dopamine’s role in the kidney, Harris and Ming-Zhi Zhang, M.D., assistant professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt, eliminated kidney-specific dopamine production in mice (by knocking out a dopamine-generating enzyme only in the kidney) and studied the outcome.

They found that mice lacking kidney dopamine had high blood pressure at baseline and became more hypertensive when they consumed a high-salt diet, suggesting they may be a good model of salt-sensitive (essential) hypertension, Harris said. Alterations in the kidney dopamine system may predispose individuals to hypertension, he noted.

The investigators also showed that elimination of kidney dopamine increased renin production, which activates the angiotensin II system to increase salt and water reabsorption – and produce hypertension.

“These animals retain salt and water when they don’t have sufficient dopamine production in the kidney,” Harris said. “Our studies highlight this whole other hormonal system that appears to balance or put the brakes on the renin-angiotensin system.”

Currently, the renin-angiotensin system is the major target for treating chronic kidney diseases. Discovering another target – the kidney dopamine system – is exciting, the researchers said. They are exploring whether specific drugs that enhance the kidney dopamine system are effective in blocking hypertension and treating progressive kidney diseases.

The investigators predicted changes in kidney function in the mouse model, but they were “very surprised” to discover that the modified mice only lived about half as long as normal mice (15 months versus 30 months). They found increases in stress-related proteins in the kidney, heart and vasculature, suggesting that elimination of kidney dopamine causes systemic effects, Harris said.

“This kidney-specific dopamine system is not only important for kidney function and blood pressure regulation, but also for the overall health of the animal,” Harris said. “If the dopamine system in the kidney is altered, the animals have a markedly shortened life span.”

I believe in Las Vegas, I think its best days are ahead of it, but I’m afraid to do anything in the current political environment in the United States. You watch television and see what’s going on on this this debt ceiling issue. And what I consider to be a total lack of leadership from the President, and nothing will get fixed until the President himself steps up and wrangles both parties in Congress. But everybody is so political, so focused on holding their job for the next year, that the discussion in Washington is nauseating.

And I’m saying it bluntly that this administration is the greatest wet blanket to business and progress and job creation in my lifetime. Regulations coming from left and right. A President that seems, you know — that keeps using that word redistribution.

Well, my customers and the companies that provide the vitality for the hospitality and restaurant industry, in the United States of America, they’re frightened of this administration. And it makes you slow down and not invest your money. Everybody complains about how much money is on the side in America. You bet. And until we change the tempo and the conversation from Washington, it’s not going to change.

White House: we “win the future” by making ISPs into copyright cops

The White House likes the newly announced “six strikes” voluntary agreement announced today between major copyright holders and Internet access providers. That’s no surprise—the US administration helped to broker the deal.

“The joining of Internet service providers and entertainment companies in a cooperative effort to combat online infringement can further this goal [of supporting jobs and exports] and we commend them for reaching this agreement,” said Victoria Espinel, US Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator, in a statement today. “We believe it will have a significant impact on reducing online piracy.”

Espinel is professionally interested in copyright online; Vice President Joe Biden is more of a copyright hobbyist (“piracy is flat, unadulterated theft”) who has convened White House meetings to talk about infringement. It was therefore no real surprise to learn a few weeks ago that the White House had played a behind-the-scenes role (along with New York’s Andrew Cuomo) in bringing together the content owners and ISPs to hash out a voluntary agreement.

While ISPs were for years seen more like the “common carriers” of yore, who ran a network and were generally not responsible for policing the uses of that network, government sentiment in key quarters is changing. And not just in the US—at the recent high level OECD Internet conference in Paris, the concluding document stressed ISPs’ duty to halt bad behavior.

But Obama has no intention of restoring the rule of law. He not only refuses to prosecute flagrant war crimes, but has immunized those who orchestrated, led and carried out the torture. At the same time he has dramatically increased war crimes, including drone strikes in Pakistan. He continues to preside over hundreds of the offshore penal colonies, where abuse and torture remain common. He is complicit with the killers and the torturers.

The only way the rule of law will be restored, if it is restored, is piece by piece, extradition by extradition, trial by trial. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, former CIA Director George Tenet, Condoleezza Rice and John Ashcroft will, if we return to the rule of law, face trial. The lawyers who made legal what under international and domestic law is illegal, including not only Rizzo but Alberto Gonzales, Jay Bybee, David Addington, William J. Haynes and John Yoo, will, if we are to dig our way out of this morass, be disbarred and prosecuted. Our senior military leaders, including Gen. David Petraeus, who oversaw death squads in Iraq and widespread torture in clandestine prisons, will be lined up in a courtroom, as were the generals in Argentina, and made to answer for these crimes. This is the only route back. If it happens it will happen because a few courageous souls such as the attorney and president of the Center for Constitutional Rights, Michael Ratner, are trying to make it happen. It will take time—a lot of time; the crimes committed by Bianco and the two former officers sent to prison this month are nearly four decades old. If it does not happen, then we will continue to descend into a terrifying, dystopian police state where our guards will, on a whim, haul us out of our cells to an amusement park and make us ride, numb and bewildered, on the kiddie train, before the next round of torture.
