Analysts: IRS turns blind eye to mosques preaching jihad

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

American mosques are preaching jihad in the U.S. in possible violation of their tax-exempt status and the IRS is letting it happen, according to experts on the issue.

“Muslim Mafia” co-author and terrorism analyst David Gaubatz says American mosques simply use foreign money to promote jihad, and there’s no comment or question from the IRS.

“They do indeed preach jihad and more importantly they consider Islam to be a government first and a religion second. This means we are allowing governments of other countries to operate as a non-profit. I have numerous documents showing this,” Gaubatz said.

Atlas Shrugs publisher and Islam analyst Pamela Geller believes IRS inaction is because the agency isn’t equipped to deal with the issue.

Make a donation of $25 to protect the free flow of information about threats to America’s security and get both the e-book and the hardcover edition of the book that exposes CAIR, “Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America.”

“The IRS seems to have no procedures in place for examining the teaching or activities of mosques to determine whether or not they’re abiding by 501(c)3 guidelines,” Geller said.

“The reason why not is because if they did have such procedures or mounted such investigations, they’d be accused of ‘Islamophobia,’” Geller said.

With 393 days still to go, most voters think these campaigns are tooo long

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

As everyone no doubt remembers, Sen. John F. Kennedy announced his presidential candidacy on Jan. 3, 1960.

That was 310 days before the 1960 election.

He won, running against a man who’d been a sitting vice president for seven years.

To the surprise of no one, Barack Obama announced his candidacy on April 3, 2011, 190 days ago.

That was 583 days before the presidential election of 2012, nearly twice as long as the lesser-known Kennedy. And Obama is an incumbent.

Yes, he’s in big reelection trouble, running against himself and the economy that he and Joe Biden promised would get better probably next month.

So, the incumbent Democrat is left with making the argument ad infinitum that things did actually get better economically although no one noticed and he wishes they’d gotten much better but they would have been much worse had it not been for the things he did do that didn’t seem to work.

No wonder then that nearly three-out-of-four likely U.S. voters (72%) have a pretty strong feeling that these election campaigns have gotten too long, way too long, according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey.

Bombshell: Underwear Bomber Calls Haskell As Defense Witness

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

In a shocking development in the trial of the accused underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, Delta Flight 253 eyewitness Kurt Haskell has been called by Abdulmutallab as a witness for the defense, a move that could blow the whole case wide open.

Bombshell: Underwear Bomber Calls Haskell As Defense Witness nigermaitrise 0

Detroit Lawyer Haskell has been a prominent skeptic of the government’s official version of events, having witnessed a well-dressed man help Abdulmutallab clear security before the incident on Christmas Day 2009 despite the fact that the bomber had no passport, in addition to the fact that his own father had warned U.S. intelligence officials of the threat posed by Abdulmutallab a month before the attempted attack.

It later emerged that the State Department was ordered not to revoke Abdulmutallab’s visa by “federal counterterrorism officials” even though the accused bomber had known terrorist ties.

Haskell maintains that Abdulmutallab was carrying a fake bomb and was the unwitting dupe in a case of government entrapment.

“Chambers indicates that I may be the only defense witness called,” writes Haskell on his blog. “How ironic is it that I will have Umar’s life in my hands just as Umar had my life in his hands (or underwear) on Christmas Day 2009? I will be up to the task. I realize that some may not agree with me and may attempt to harm me. Nevertheless, I will speak the truth and not be intimidated. I will do this for the common good of all of the citizens of the United States.”

A d v e r t i s e m e n t

Abdulmutallab’s court “outbursts,” in which he shouts clichéd rhetoric about the mujahadeen, Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda, suggest that he is being coached on how to behave and what to say, suggests Haskell. The outbursts are in complete contradiction to how he behaved during the Flight 253 incident, Haskell told the Associated Press.

“I saw him before boarding and he never said anything, I’ve seen him in court several times, and I even saw him when he lit his fake bomb and his crotch was burning and he never makes a peep. This is totally out of character for him,” Haskell told AP writer Ed White, although White later edited the quote.

During his interview on the Alex Jones Show today, Haskell pointed out that if Abdulmutallab chooses to reveal what he knows about the entire plot, it could be more damaging to the Obama administration than the Fast and Furious scandal, and would undermine the entire foundation of the war on terror and the TSA grope downs and body scans that were introduced in the aftermath of the event.

Abdulmutallab could reveal which intelligence agents gave him the dud bomb, while also lifting the lid on the role of Anwar al-Awlaki, who as we have documented was clearly a double agent posing as an Al-Qaeda leader while doing the bidding of the US intelligence community.

Aware that his involvement in the case and his assertions of government complicity in the aborted attack could put his life in danger, Haskell made it clear on air that he was not planning on committing suicide.

Russia had only 30 czars — Obama has 45 (All a part of the Communist plan)

October 10, 2011 2 comments

From the time the Russian title of “Czar” (or Caesar) was first used in the 16th Century to describe the Emperors of Russia, through the communist revolution of 1917, Russia had only about thirty czars. President Obama’s administration has 45, according to a new report from the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch.

President Obama was not the first to have “czars,” nor have all the positions that go by that informal name fallen within the lines of this report. But Obama’s use of policy advisors who “enjoy positions of power and authority in the administration and yet have not been subjected to vetting and confirmation by the U.S. Senate” is unprecedented in several ways, the report suggests:

President Barack Obama has installed personal advisors in czar positions in the White House and has created new czar positions elsewhere in the Executive Branch. As of the date of this report, the number of czars that have been appointed by the President, or by others in his administration, appears to total 45. In addition, there are as many as 18 other unfilled or planned czar positions.

Many of these ‘czars’ are unconfirmed by the Senate and are largely unaccountable to Congress. Further, their activities are often outside the reach of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), creating a veil of secrecy about their precise role in the administration.”

Dem Congressman Keith Ellison: Regulations Create Jobs

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) tells MSNBC regulations create jobs because a business will have to hire people to help them comply with the new requirement.

“I think the answer is no,” Ellison said when asked if he believes regulations kill jobs. “And here is why: When we talked about increasing fuel efficiency standards, the industry responded, and they need engineers and designers and manufacturers, and they need actually more people to help respond to the new requirement.”

“I believe if the government says, look, we have got to reduce our carbon footprint, you will kick into gear a whole number of people that know how to do that or have ideas about that, and that will be a job engine. I understand what you mean, because if anything adds a cost to a business, you could assume that that will diminish that business’s ability to hire. But I don’t think that’s actually right. I think what businesses want is customers and what — if they are selling product, if they have a product to sell they will do well even if they have some new regulations to meet,” the Congressman said.

Rep. Ellison tells MSNBC that he is against Republican attempts to defund the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) because doing so would “make us sicker and add to heart disease as well as everything else.”

Shock Video: “Alleged” Egyptian Military Vehicles Run Over Coptic Protesters:

On Sunday, the Blaze reported on violent clashes between Egypt’s military and Coptic Christians (the largest minority in the Middle Eastern nation). What purportedly started out as a peaceful protest against a recent church attack ended in extreme violence that drew thousands into the streets.

Below, see the startling video that has emerged showcasing Egypt’s military running down what appear to be protesters:

The Passing of Hillary’s 1960s Mentor

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

The obits have ignored their ties, but this former president of the SDS who saved her from Goldwater conservatism.

The 1960s-era radical Carl Oglesby, former president of Students for a Democratic Society, died several weeks ago, earning many respectful obituaries. Almost none, excepting the New Republic’s, seemed to cite his formative influence on a young Hillary Clinton.

In a 1994 Newsweek interview about her Methodist faith, the then First Lady revealed that Oglesby’s 1966 screed against the Vietnam War, published in a Methodist youth magazine, had deeply shaped her. Her new stance on Vietnam shifted her from a Goldwater conservative to McGovern liberalism. (I wrote about this interview and Oglesby for the March 1995 American Spectator.)

Even the Guardian in Britain, in its own obituary, hailed Oglesby as “one of the most talented and interesting of the leaders of the 1960s American left.” He didn’t come to radical political activism until he was already a husband and father in his late 20s, but he rose quickly in SDS until displaced for not being sufficiently far left. Black Panther leader Eldridge Cleaver unsuccessfully asked Oglesby to be his running mate in a symbolic 1968 presidential bid. Oglesby’s passionate appeal, “Let Us Shape the Future,” to a massive 1965 anti-war demonstration in Washington, D.C. is remembered as classic. Despite his attacks on capitalism, he later flirted with Libertarianism. And his post-1960s decades seem to have been relatively quiet, moving across different professions, and reputedly nursing an obsession with JFK’s assassination. In a sign of his eventual domestication, Oglesby co-wrote a book about buying your “dream house” with PBS home repair star Bob Vila.

‘Goodbye!’ Fox News veteran Geraldo Rivera sent packing by Occupy Wall Street protesters

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

* He was trying to interview demonstrators in New York

* Forced to walk away among ‘Fox News lies’ chants

* Crowd started singing ‘Goodbye’ as Rivera left area

Perhaps Geraldo Rivera should choose a quieter area for interviewing Occupy Wall Street protesters next time. Maybe he shouldn’t bother at all.

The veteran Fox News presenter was forced away from the demonstrators on Sunday as they chanted ‘Fox News lies!’ at him in Manhattan, New York.

The 68-year-old was trying to talk to protesters when crowds recognised him and he walked away with his bodyguards to chants of ‘Goodbye!’

The demonstrators were reacting to what they perceive as intense criticism from Fox News of their protest movement over the last few weeks.

Protesters tried to speak to Mr Rivera as he walked away to the sound of: ‘Nah, nah, nah, nah; hey, hey, hey; goodbye!’.

Many Republican politicians and right-wing thinkers have been critical of the protesters, with Herman Cain labelling them ‘jealous’.

But the demonstrations, which are now entering their fourth week nationwide, have now spread to more than 25 cities in the U.S.

Mr Rivera is an experienced broadcaster who once interviewed Michael Jackson before his trial for child molestation charges….

Jew-Hating Farrakhan Hails Wall Street Occupiers – “The American Autumn Has Just Begun”

October 10, 2011 1 comment

In a two-hour speech yesterday, Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan called for blacks to take off their bedroom slippers (echoing President Obama), and called for a central bank to help blacks rebuild their own communities. He called upon black millionaires and billionaires to set up a corporation to loan money to blacks, who would buy land and create their own jobs in agribusiness and animal husbandry.

Addressing the thousands gathered at the Convention Center for the final day of the anniversary of the Million Man March in Washington, D.C., in 1995, he railed against the government’s military actions in Muslim nations Pakistan, Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan. “We must not let our government send our babies to die on the basis of a lie,” he said. He said Philadelphia would be the seat of a new nation, starting with the “young white people now marching” in American cities, what he called “the American autumn that’s just begun.”

His speech focused on the state of blacks in America, and he was as merciless toward them as he was toward Obama and the “white establishment.” “Whether you know it or not, we are at war,” he said. “Our survival as a people is at stake. . . The time for talk is over.”

U.S. Government Obtains Secret Court Order for Email Data of WikiLeaks Volunteer:

The U.S. government obtained a controversial type of secret court order to force Google Inc. and small internet provider Sonic.net Inc. to turn over information from the email accounts of a WikiLeaks volunteer.

Sonic said it fought the government’s order and lost, and was forced to turn over information. Challenging the order was “rather expensive, but we felt it was the right thing to do,” said Sonic’s chief executive, Dane Jasper.

The government’s request included the email addresses of people volunteer Jacob Appelbaum corresponded with over the past two years, but not the full emails, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

Both Google and Sonic pressed for the right to inform Appelbaum of the secret court orders, according to people familiar with the investigation. Google declined to comment. Appelbaum, 28, has not been charged with wrongdoing.

Five Things Republicans Must Do to Crush the Left in the Propaganda War

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

Obama and his gang of Alinskyite thugs are not as tough as they look when we know how to fight.

Well, well, well, elections actually do have consequences, don’t they? Millions of Americans are indeed suffering the real consequences of the Republican Party’s mealy-mouthed, yellow-streaked performance during campaign ’08.

Oh sure, both the Democrats and the willfully myopic media are most to blame for the Obama presidency, but it is high time that the Republican Party hotshots do a little introspecting of their own.

How is it that the American electorate knew so little about Barack Obama that they could stay stoned on hope-dope all the way to the voting booth? How is it that Jeremiah Wright’s racist, anti-Semitic tirades had not been heard by every man and woman in America before election day? What yellow-bellied nincompoops permitted the Democratic Party to turn the presidency of the United States of America into a garish, iconographic, messianic ego trip for a single individual with no qualifications but a teleprompter and a real-world resume fit for the back of a postage stamp?

Election ’08 was a clear case of Republican abdication. It was a propaganda war fought banana-republic style and John McCain was all but missing in action. Barack Obama didn’t have to win. All he had to do was show up for his coronation. Heck, the guy didn’t even have to put an American flag in his lapel or lift hand to heart during the national anthem. He just had to show his face, remind Republicans at every weak moment that he was black and the whole lot of hotshots sang his praises almost as much as his Democrat enablers.

Cain on Electability: ‘Get Ready for an Aberration of Historic Proportions’

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

Herman Cain refused to wade into the controversy over whether it is accurate to call Mitt Romney a Christian or not.

“I’m not running for theologian in chief,” he said on CNN’s State of the Union this morning. “I’m a lifelong Christian and what that means is one of my guiding principles for the decisions I make is I start with do the right thing. I’m not getting into that controversy. He’s a Mormon. That much I know. I’m not going to do an analysis of Mormonism vs. Christianity for the sake of answering that.”

When CNN host Candy Crowley pressed him, saying it appeared he was dodging the question, Cain remained adamant. “If that what it looks like, I’m dodging it because it’s not going to help us boost this economy and you know that’s my number one priority,” he said.

Asked about comments that no one lacking political experience could win the White House, including those made at Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball site (“A Cain nomination would be an aberration of historic proportions: American political parties typically don’t nominate people without previous officeholding experience for president.”), Cain pushed back.

“Get ready for an aberration of historic proportions, and here’s why. I give dozens of speeches a week,” Cain said, noting that he had been to Iowa 24 times and that the idea he was ignoring Iowa was simply a “misperception.”

“When I give speeches to rallies, town hall meetings, whatever the audience, no matter how big or small, and I get to my lack of having held public office, I get a spontaneous applause. I’m saying this, the people who are criticizing me because I have not held public office, they are out of touch with the voters out there,” Cain argued.

“People are saying they like the fact that I have not held public office and they love my concrete, specific ideas about how we need to fix this economy and the other problems,” he said.

He also struck back at the stories that he was ditching his campaign temporarily to promote his book This is Herman Cain!

“I can promote a book and campaign at the same time,” he chuckled.

“Smart meters” insidious government encroachment into daily lives

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

Homeowners must keep a heads up to any effort from their local power and light, gas company or water supplier to install “smart meters” as replacements for their present traditional meters.

Smart meters” are insidious devices that measure the amount of electricity, water or gas used by an individual consumer. They can and are used to regulate the amount of each commodity we are allowed to consume as decided by a corporate/governmental bureaucracy.

Physical dangers

Researchers point out these wireless meters will emit dangerous radio microwave frequencies throughout our homes every day.

Additionally, these smart meters are an invasion of our personal privacy, theft of our personal liberties, and give government “1984” – Big Brother type control of each of us. Give these people the ability to cut off our wattage gas or water and we give them the power to control everything we do and think and say.

Researcher Tom DeWeese sees smart meters as part of the U.N. Agenda 21 which is being pushed on us by our present administration.

He quotes U.N. adviser Maurice Strong, a very dangerous and influential collectivist as saying, “Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class involving high meat intake, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work air-conditioning and suburban housing are not sustainable.” Smart meters fit in with the progressive movement’s efforts to instill “social justice” on us as they define social justice.

DeWeese adds, “Smart meters or energy audits affect everyone in town. What is the problem? Government is dictating your energy use that you are paying for.”

Smart meters deny your right to choose how much energy you are willing to buy, to determine how warm or cool your house will be, whether to take a hot shower or not…..

Giants of the Corps

The Life and Death of “Manila John”

Story by William Douglas Lansford

If my only purpose were to resurrect a hero, to glorify him for posterity, I would start by saying that John Basilone had a sense of destiny. But this would be silly. He had no feeling of destiny. He was all here and now. No lofty speeches ever came from him to match his deeds, because he spoke directly in the “dem’s” and “dose’s” of a grade-school education romped through in New Jersey. He was a good boy, became a better man and eventually achieved greatness.

I first met Basilone after the balance of our war in the Pacific had shifted. A victorious Marine Corps (Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Bougainville, Tarawa) was adjusting to offensive tactics, which meant weapons like the .30-caliber machine gun. In 1944, after two years overseas with Carlson’s Raiders, I was assigned to the newly formed Fifth Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and it was there I learned that “Manila John” Basilone, Medal of Honor winner, would be our “gunny.” By then, Basilone was already a legend to all Americans. It’s a matter of record that a surprised first sergeant logged me in three days under my 30-day furlough?and it was worth every day.

GySgt John Basilone was a hero on Guadalcanal. No lofty speeches ever came from him to match his deeds. But Manila John was one hell of a good section leader and fighting Marine. (Photo courtesy of Richard Greer)

I suppose I’d formed some mental image of Basilone. I can’t clearly recall now, but there was a sense of brute strength and determination that went with that famous name. Certainly his citation suggested this. Everyone in America knew the story of that fantastic night on Guadalcanal.

It had begun on Edson’s Ridge in the final hours of daylight on 24 Oct. 1942. The daily rain had ended, and having just completed a check of his guns, Basilone sat in his foxhole kicking off his shoes and socks because his feet were soaked and itched like hell. Suddenly the field phone hissed. Someone at battalion was blowing in the mouthpiece to attract attention. Basilone picked it up.

“Yeah?”

“Basilone? There’s a large Jap force massing in front of your position. They outnumber you about a hundred to one. You’ve got to hold until we can reinforce.”

“Sure,” said Basilone. As he hung up, the men around him raised their heads to catch the drift. Basilone slapped one on the helmet. “See ya in the funnies,” he said, and without putting his shoes back on, he slipped out through the mud to pass the word.

The night was eerily quiet as Basilone rechecked his machine-gun section. All was shipshape. “Basilone’s boys” knew…..

The Joint Chiefs of Staff should be worried…| The Post & Email:

They have supported a man who is clearly a usurper, as if he were the President of the United States

This fact is manifest and notorious. There is one thing certain about Obama, and the Joint Chiefs know it: his father was a British subject. Four Supreme Court Cases declare that to be a natural born citizen, both parents must be U.S. Citizens. The Constitution clearly states in Article II, section ii, paragraph 5, that “No person except a natural born Citizen . . shall be eligible to the Office of President” The Joint Chiefs have been duly informed by many letters from military personnel, and from lawyers, such as Dr. Orly Taitz. The Joint Chiefs have the opportunity and aide of the best legal counsel.

The Joint Chiefs therefore have knowingly sided with a usurper to the Presidency, and given him obedience as if he were the President of the United States.

In doing so they have violated their oaths to uphold the U.S. Constitution, and committed treason………

SO WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE SOYLENT GREEN REMAKE?

October 10, 2011 1 comment

A remake of Soylent Green, the cheesy yet cheerfully pessimistic ‘Seventies science fiction movie starring Charlton Heston, has been rumored for ages now . . .

Some background: Soylent Green is a 1973 science fiction movie that starred then box-office champ Charlton Heston. Considering that the two other science fiction movies Charlton Heston starred in during his long career have already been “remade” (Planet of the Apes by Tim Burton in 2001 and The Omega Man as I Am Legend starring Will Smith), then it should maybe come as no surprise that Hollywood would want to remake Soylent Green as well.

The ‘Seventies saw the rise of the Ecological movement. In the late-1960s issues such as overpopulation, the destruction of the rain forest and pollution amongst others may have only been of concern to a bunch of tree-hugging hippies, but in the 1970s these issues went mainstream. In time these concerns were also reflected in several Hollywood movies of the era such as Z.P.G. (1972) and Silent Running (also 1972) – several decades before WALL-E!

Reeling from the shock of Vietnam and Watergate, the ‘Seventies was the time to feel shitty about the future. That decade’s Hollywood output become infamous for its cynicism and unhappy endings, a trend which was only reversed when a certain small movie named Star Wars quenched the viewing public’s insatiable thirst for happy endings . . .

Since then Hollywood hasn’t really stopped with the happy ending business, and it is therefore weird that they would want to remake Soylent Green – a darkly pessimistic film with a trademarked ‘Seventies unhappy ending.

Soylent Green is set in 2022, a future dystopia in which the planet is plagued by overcrowding, pollution and resource depletion. To cope with the problem the government has set up euthanasia centres for the elderly where they can watch stock footage of the now extinct forests and animals as self-administered poison slowly course through their veins.

[SPOILERS!] The only foodstuff available in mass quantities is “Soylent Green,” tasteless green cubes which the government says are made of plankton. Of course it isn’t made of plankton: as everyone knows by now “Soylent Green is people!” It seems that the government has found a non-wasteful way to recycle all those depressed pensioners who frequent the euthanasia centers! In the movie Charlton Heston plays a cop who inadvertently uncovers the truth and dies at the end, trying to tell the people the truth.

The movie is based on a 1966 science fiction novel titled Make Room! Make Room! by Harry Harrison. Today Soylent Green may be fondly remembered by science fiction fans in part because movies became dumber in the decades that followed. The reality though is that Soylent Green gives new meaning to the phrase “loosely based on”. In the novel Soylent Green wasn’t people at all – it really was seaweed.

Yup, even back then Hollywood sensationalised and dumbed the material down. (When one thinks about it, the “Soylent Green is people” twist is pretty dumb because it’d be impossible to keep the truth behind the world’s most common foodstuff secret for longer than a day!)

The first news of a Soylent Green remake surfaced in 2004. Back then David Goyer, who wrote Batman Begins and directed Blade: Trinity told SCI FI Wire that the planned movie would be more of a sequel than a remake. Instead it will pick up where the original film left off.

“I will say that the reveal at the end of the first movie happened at the end of our first act. So the first movie is kind of the first act of our film, and then it’s about what happens afterwards,” Goyer said. As he pointed out in the same interview, you can’t have the “Soylent Green is people” the punch line anymore because everybody knows it by now! [END SPOILERS!]

The plan was that Goyer wouldn’t write or direct the remake / sequel, but only produce it under his then just-signed one-year first-look deal with Warner Brothers.

Fast forward to 2008. Obviously no Soylent Green remake as yet. But in December of that year a news item surfaces in The Hollywood Reporter that Dan McDermott has been hired by Warner Bros to write an adaptation of the novel on assignment – something he must do before the rights to the story reverts back to Harrison.

McDermott is a former head of DreamWorks Television who has slowly gravitated to screenwriting and co-wrote Eagle Eye. According to the same reports he was also working on remaking Romancing the Stone at that time. (David S. Goyer was also no longer attached to the project it seems.)

Since then . . . nothing. There is a 2012 release date for this film right now, so Hollywood doesn’t seem to be in too much of a hurry to get it made. Steve Jobs – A Life In Failure

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

This week Apple co-founder Steve Jobs passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. As a household name, people naturally mourned the man most had never met. Like his historical comparison, Thomas Edison, Jobs was a brash provocateur, did little of the hands-on inventing in his shop, enjoyed a non-conventional libation, and he oversaw monumental failures. Jobs’s sometimes nemesis, Bill Gates, has many of the same type-A traits, but Microsoft was essentially forbidden to fail, and that is the reason Apple is worth 25% more than Microsoft today.

Failure is the common thread among all great innovators. Edison’s monumental failure was his DC power grid. Westinghouse won the battle to electrify the nation with AC power – a vastly superior technology, yet Edison remains the greatest inventor of his time. Jobs’s failures were epic – the Lisa, Next Computer, the first portable Mac. Under different leadership, Apple also produced the Newton and other disasters. Unlike anything else, failure focuses the mind, redirects resources, and redoubles creative efforts. Most triumphs rise from the rubble of colossal failure. In Apple’s case, it teetered on the brink of insolvency at the end of 2000, only to become the most valuable publicly traded company today.

Microsoft also had its share of failures – Windows Me, Clippy, a host of failed applications. Microsoft’s early history was that of producing a poor first effort, but constantly improving until it dominated the market. The paths of Jobs and Gates diverged when the Government decided Microsoft was too successful. In 1998, a group of AGs and the DOJ responded by shackling Microsoft’s creativity; Microsoft essentially had to clear each new idea or product with government bureaucrats. Anything that might leverage Microsoft’s strengths in the market was forbidden. Microsoft had become akin to a public utility – profitable, but low growth and no innovation. Without the prospect of success, the risks of failure seem too great, and innovation at Microsoft tailed off.

To be sure, Microsoft employees continued to invent new technologies. Microsoft pioneered the tablet PC, touch screen smart phones, speech recognition built into Windows, and a wealth of patents. But Microsoft never bet the farm on any of these innovations, and they never dominated their markets. Most notably, Apple now dominates the tablet market that Microsoft launched a decade ago. Without the incentive and freedom to risk failure, Microsoft lost its way. Now that government oversight has been lifted, Microsoft is aggressively pursuing the markets it pioneered – smart phones and tablet PCs. The freedom to fail is the power to innovate and make the world better.

Shout Bits has argued against government interference in the creative process before, but the story of Steve Jobs is the promise of US exceptionalism, while the story of Microsoft is the decline of innovation when the government disallows failure. Jobs lead the true American life. He failed over and over; his life took as many turns as his short years allowed. He founded a Fortune 500 company, lost it, and eventually rebuilt it. Along the way, he revolutionized computers, movies, music, and telephony. Whenever Jobs took on an industry, those working for the established norm packed their bags.

On the other hand, while Microsoft started out disrupting industries with aggressive risk taking, later it was ensnared by government dictates on what was ‘fair.’ The careers of Jobs and Gates are a cautionary tale to anyone who might believe the government should allocate investments or somehow decide which ideas are to succeed. Even if Pres. Obama had picked a winner in Solyndra, the heavy hand of government would have foreclosed on someone else with an even better idea. Steve Jobs’s career was a celebration of the US’s unique capacity to tolerate the failures that eventually lead to the innovations that build the modern world.

Judicial Watch Releases Comprehensive Special Report on President Obama’s 45 Czars

October 10, 2011 2 comments

New Czars Exercise Unprecedented Control over Government Policies and Programs While Operating Under a “Veil of Secrecy”

Judicial Watch, the public interest organization that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released “ President Obama’s Czarspdf,” a special report on the President’s appointing of “policy advisors,” many of whom enjoy positions of power and authority in the administration and yet have not been subjected to vetting and confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Judicial Watch’s extensive investigation exhaustively documents these czar appointments and details the control these czars exercise over government operations.

From the report’s introduction:

“This Judicial Watch Special Report analyzes the proliferation of so-called ‘czars’ in the Obama administration.

“Many of these ‘czars’ are unconfirmed by the Senate and are largely unaccountable to Congress. Further, their activities are often outside the reach of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), creating a veil of secrecy about their precise role in the administration.”

The new report is available at Judicial Watch’s websitepdf

Czars appointees have seized unprecedented control over major aspects of government policy and programs. In some instances, unconfirmed czars have authority, in seeming violation of the U.S. Constitution, over certain Senate-confirmed officers.

A number of the czars have been linked to scandals, thefts and kickbacks, flagrant and offensive statements, conflicts of interest, and radical leftist political ideologies and policies.

“Barack Obama’s unconstitutional use of czars to help run his administration is at odds with republican, limited, and accountable government. Obama has simply installed his radical leftist allies in various positions of power while thumbing his nose at Congress and the American people. As we document in this report, too many of these czars have proven to be corrupt or radicals (or sometimes both). No wonder the Obama administration fights tooth and nail to allow these czars to operate in secret. Nevertheless, Judicial Watch managed to develop this comprehensive list of czars as part of efforts to ensure government accountability.”

Okay, Now I Get It: Here’s Why Apple Launched The iPhone 4S Instead Of The iPhone 5

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

When Apple launched the iPhone 4S instead of the iPhone 5 last week, I initially thought it was a disappointment and a mistake.

If Apple had launched the actual iPhone 5, I thought, they’d have sold more of them.

And that’s probably right.

If Apple had launched a radically new iPhone 5, more of the folks who currently own iPhone 4s would have upgraded, so Apple would have sold some more 4S units. As it is, the iPhone 4S is likely to appeal primarily to iPhone 3G and 3GS owners, non-smartphone owners, and non-iPhone owners, most of whom (like me) are presumably stoked to buy the iPhone 4S.

But viewing the 4S as disappointing ignores Apple’s likely thinking behind it, which Asymco analyst Horace Dediu explains very clearly here.

The thinking is that most iPhone 4 owners are still bound by the 2-year contracts they had to enter into when they bought the iPhone 4, so they’ll be less likely to now upgrade anyway (barring carriers waving those contracts, which they might have if Apple had released the “5″).

So the 4S isn’t aimed at these folks. It’s aimed at the other three categories of iPhone 4S buyers:

* Pre-iPhone 4 iPhone users (~70 million of them)

* Non-smartphone users (1+ billion, who can now get a 3GS for free, if price is an issue)

* Non-iPhone smartphone users (Blackberry, Android, Nokia)

Smashing the Illusion of Consent… Peacefully by Eric Peters

Refusing to fly again until TSA Submission Training is done away with – and not buying cars equipped with Big Brother technology – that’s a good start on the path back to liberty. But if we really want to pick up the pace – and get back to what this country once was, a very long time ago, there’s a play we could make about a year from now that would fundamentally change everything:

Don’t play their game.

Don’t vote.

Not until, at least, voting isn’t a con – as it is currently and has been for decades.

No, worse than a con.

Voting in the context of our current system is the mechanism by which we enslave ourselves – and this is key – without being conscious of our enslavement.

It is called the illusion of consent.

We – most of us, at any rate – believe that because we are offered the choice between Tweedledee and Tweedledum that the oppression subsequently visited upon us by the state and its agents has been done with our consent, since after all, we got to vote on it first.

It is an absurd proposition when you deconstruct it……….

Did Steve Jobs Hate the State? by Robert Wenzel

…..Overall a pretty damn solid anti-state lobbying stance.

And who can forget the video which recorded the icy silence from Jobs, when Cupertino city council members tried to shake Jobs down for free Wi-Fi and an Apple Store in Cupertino.

Most fascinating, Jobs never got a license plate for his car.

The auto marketing magazine, Polk, writes:

Mr. Jobs drove a silver 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG without a license plate.

Why? Nobody knows for sure, and multiple theories have been bandied about in Silicon Valley. Some think it’s a high-tech vehicle code distortion field or custom-built mechanized plate retractor. Others insist that overzealous fans swipe the roadster’s tags every time they’re mounted. I even saw one blogger opine it was because the font on California license plates is so ugly. His theory is that Mr. jobs couldn’t stand to mar the aesthetics of a beautiful vehicle with the product of some state assemblyman’s sense of style. Maybe it’s simply because he could get away with it.

And that brings us to the other aspect to this mystery. How exactly did Steve Jobs drive a plateless car for four years without ever getting ticketed for the infraction? A search of traffic records confirms that he successfully avoided plate-related fines. Again, theories abound, but I think it’s just a matter of playing the odds.

Or, perhaps, it was simply that Jobs was not impressed with government demands to do this or that……

(May 5, 2010) — I can’t believe CINO-infested Townhall has allowed one of its authors, Diana West, to mention the natural born Citizenship issue. I quit reading Townhall in disgust about six months ago because Townhall would not touch this fundamental Constitutional issue. I found Ms. West’s article via a Google search. Perhaps I should give Townhall another chance?

With this in mind, I just ran a Google advanced search on the phrase “natural born,” limited only to the “townhall.com” domain and found no other recent articles on this subject — an absolute zero (you know, just like the _resident-in-chief). There were quite a few hits from reader comments, so at least Townhall is not actively squelching all mention of the eligibility issue, but sadly, it appears that Diana West is the only regular Townhall author who is willing to formally broach this important subject in defense of the Constitution.

With that in mind, I think I will go ahead with my cancellation of Townhall.com and just keep an eye out for individual Diana West articles (it certainly will keep the email inbox a lot tidier)…….

The following is an excerpt of my interview with Thorbjørn Jagland, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is responsible for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize. In this section, Jagland speaks about whether Obama lived up to the expectations of the Nobel Peace Prize he was awarded in 2009. The rest of the interview will be published later today covering topics from the tragedy in Norway to Europe‘s role in Central Asia.

Has President Obama lived up to his Nobel Peace Prize?

Yes, I think so. I’m as convinced as I was when he got it that he deserved it for many reasons. He changed so many things in American foreign policy; During three months’ time, he, for instance and that’s what’s the main reason why he got the prize, namely that he paved the way for new negotiations with the Russian Federation about nuclear arms. If you look at the will of Alfred Nobel that goes directly to what he said that the prize should go to the person that has worked for – he called it reduction of standing armies but in today’s terms it means arm control and disarmament. So President Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize because he paved the way for such negotiations; he said that he was willing to discuss the nuclear shield of Europe and therefore, the Russians were beginning to come back to the table and negotiations started again.

None of the convictions in these cases have been overturned. From the study:

The Mob, We the People, and Arrogant Aristocrats

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

…..Our use of the terms “Left” and “Right” originated in the days of the French Revolution “when members of the National Assembly divided into supporters of the king to the president’s right and supporters of the revolution to his left.” While it is indisputably true that the French left-wing was responsible for monumental bloodshed and terror, it would be a mistake to think that the right-wing was pure as the driven snow. There would have been no revolution had the French aristocracy not been largely arrogant a—holes. They were certainly no friend to the people. Link

The reason I bring this up is because it would be a grave mistake for us to assume that because someone opposes the Far Left, it automatically means that they are on the side of the angels. America has its ruling class, its “aristocracy,” and they are interested in acquiring and keeping power, not in protecting the rights of “we the people.” They come in a right-wing version as well as left, and “we the people” best take them into account.

In order to join the aristocracy you must above all things be a conformist. As S. T. Karnick noted in his article “The Productive Class and the American Aristocracy,” “the ruling class is by no means a meritocracy. On the contrary, what is required is conformity, and it is enforced without pity.” Link

This subject deserves its own article, so I’ll not pursue it here, other than to say that it is important that we start recognizing some of the differences between, for example, a true constitutional conservative, a faux conservative, a reactionary, and an “aristocrat.” True conservatism is always moving forward, evolving, improving—there is nothing reactionary in it, and most certainly there is nothing aristocratic about it…..

OWS protesters fear movement is being turned into a Democratic election campaign front

The “official” Occupy Wall Street website has publicly formed an alliance with yet another Obama campaign front group, the New Jersey branch of the American Federation of Teachers, the parent organization of which spent $1.9 million on Obama’s 2008 election campaign.
Occupy Forms Alliance With Obama Lobby Group occupy 641x375
Fears that the OWS movement is being subverted by Democratic Party operatives will only be heightened after OccupyWallSt.org celebrated the fact that “AFT fully endorses Occupy Wall Street,” noting that the local chapter stood in “solidarity” with ‘Occupy’ demonstrators.
The American Federation of Teachers financed Obama’s 2008 campaign to the tune of $1.9 million and has also recently offered its strong support for Obama’s “Jobs Plan,” which critics have pointed out will lead to higher taxes not for the super-rich, but for middle class Americans.
The United Federation of Teachers sub-chapter of the AFT, which has also publicly backed the Occupy Wall Street protests, was rewarded for their parent organization’s support for Obama when the administration made the union representing New York City’s public school teachers the largest beneficiary of the notorious Obamacare waiver.

From D.C. to Alabama to Portland, demonstrators protest everything from corporate greed to joblessness to economic inequality.

“You’ve got people here being told they need to face a lower standard of living, that we can’t pay the wages that we used to enjoy, that the promises that were made to our grandparents are going to be broken,” LaGreca said.

Hackers Will Take Down the Stock Exchange on Monday, or Maybe Not: Anarcho-Doritologist hacker collective has declared war on the New York Stock Exchange and will launch a “raid” on the company’s website on Monday, October 10! Or is “Operation Invade Wall Street” a “fake planted operation”? Or maybe it doesn’t really matter either way.

If you buy the video (which, if it’s a “plant,” is convincingly self-serious), Anonymous‘ plan is essentially the same as the one that briefly took down PayPal and MasterCard: Convince a bunch of people to download and run a program that will effect a distributed denial of service attack on the target, in this case the NYSE website. It’s called “Operation Invade Wall Street,” and will happen on October 10.

Occupied America

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

Rush Limbaugh’s Occupy Wall St. Rant Proves The Protesters Are Winning,” claims Politicususa.com, a blog boasting “Real Liberal Politics — No Corporate Money. No Masters.”

On Friday, Limbaugh had called the Occupy Wall Street protests “laughable.” Moreover, and exactly mirroring accusations on the left regarding the Tea Party and the GOP, he charged that the protests were “not spontaneous,” a mere front for Democrats and the Obama re-election campaign. Specifically, he pointed to support from the country’s biggest and most politically powerful unions.

Regardless of any attempted (or even successful) manipulation by the usual political powers that be, the seething anger and fear — on both right and left (and in-between) — is most assuredly spontaneous and genuine. The protests have now spread beyond Wall Street, across the country. The anger is everywhere. It is boiling against the politicians, who have mismanaged everything they’ve touched (and that’s quite a lot) and also against those in the Wall Street-corporate-government complex who have been bailed out at great expense to the average American, who even now pays more in taxes than did most medieval serfs.

We know, sorta, what the protesters are protesting. Unfortunately, we have to read between some of the lines, since “Wall Street,” and “capitalism” prove tricky to understand, as vague as those words have become — by processes George Orwell warned us about in “Politics and the English Language.”

We cannot know in any official sense what these protests are designed to achieve. When a list of specific demands was posted at the OccupyWallSt.org forum — universal single-payer healthcare, raising the minimum wage to $20 an hour, “fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end,” free college education for all, “re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods,” a trillion dollars spending on infrastructure, another trillion for ecological restoration, and so on — the site was quick to declare, “This is not an official list of demands. . . . There is NO official list of demands.”

The Freeman’s Sheldon Richman is right: “Their agenda is vague, but they at least have the good sense to know that something is awry with the political-economic system we labor under.”

Despite tenets to their protest to which I cannot subscribe — and despite the loathsome term “occupy” — I’m glad these people are protesting. I like protests. They are active, rather than passive. As Frederick Douglas once said, “Power concedes nothing without a demand.” Time permitting, I plan to attend and to talk with my fellow countrymen (and woman) about our governance. Sure, some Saul Alinsky-wannabes will be there, as will some people whose policy prescriptions are poles apart from my own.

But I’m not afraid of honest disagreement. We must not permit the partisans to unnecessarily divide us. I’m convinced many if not most of those participating are allies in the fight to restore a republic with basic liberties, constitutionally protected, as well as democratic checks on government power.

They are friends and not enemies.

Friends, perhaps in part, as the enemy of your enemy can be your friend. But also friends to the degree that they can be persuaded to recognize that the problem is systemic, and not solvable by either Republicans or Democrats gaining a more powerful majority grip on power. Indeed, that has been proven time and again.

Honest, thoughtful citizens on the left as well as the right have an abundance of reasons to be disgusted by the Obama Administration, and by Democrats in Congress, just as they were by the former Bush Administration, and Republicans in Congress. The time has come for us to work together, everywhere we can find common ground, to restore a legitimate political process — one that allows the people to decide, and makes government listen.

To the gnashing of special interests’ teeth.

In a recent interview for The American Conservative, Ralph Nader spoke in exceedingly positive terms about Republican Congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul. “Libertarians like Ron Paul are on our side on civil liberties,” the legendary consumer advocate argued. “They’re on our side against the military-industrial complex. They’re on our side against Wall Street. They’re on our side for investor rights. That’s a foundational convergence. It’s not just itty-bitty stuff.”

Nader is on to something.

It might be amusing to sit like has-been celebrities on American Idol and judge the Occupy Wall Street (and various other cities’) protests — just as Tea Party efforts were snarkingly sneered at. But these days the stakes are simply too high and the prospects too frightening for such petty amusements. We need all the allies we can muster to help us restore a government of the people.

No, I don’t want to “occupy” Wall Street. Or any other American city.

But I do want to work with every willing American to end the occupation of our constitutional, democratic republic by a political class filled with mucky-mucks from Wall Street, and other boulevards, who wallow in bailouts and special privileges bestowed upon them by the power-obsessed politicians on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue.
