Martin Luther King’s niece is peeved that the Rev. Jesse Jackson has been comparing the Occupy movement that has taken hold in major cities nationwide to the sit-ins of the civil rights movement of the 1950s and ’60s. But Jackson, who visited McPherson Square ‘occupy’ers Monday evening in the District obviously didn’t get the memo.
Jackson gave a talk and then led a prayer with a small group of about 30 protestors as the sun set Monday evening. Afterward, he told The Washington Examiner that he supported the movement because they followed the same principles as the nonviolent civil rights protestors.
All of it is occupying for economic justice. Dr. King’s last act on earth was to come to Washington and to occupy the mall and put the focus on economic justice. He was willing to go to jail and engage in civil disobedience to keep that focus on [unintelligible]. He argued over and over again that we should establish a floor by which no American shall fall [through]. …

It can be a malicious rumor whispered in the hallway, a lewd photo arriving by cell phone, hands groping where they shouldn’t. Added up, it’s an epidemic — student-on-student sexual harassment that is pervasive in America‘s middle schools and high schools.
During the 2010-11 school year, 48 percent of students in grades 7-12 experienced some form of sexual harassment in person or electronically via texting, email and social media, according to a major national survey being released Monday by the American Association of University Women.
The harassers often thought they were being funny, but the consequences for their targets can be wrenching, according to the survey.
Nearly a third of the victims said the harassment made them feel sick to their stomach, affected their study habits or fueled reluctance to go to school at all.
“It’s reached a level where it’s almost a normal part of the school day,” said one of the report’s co-authors, AAUW director of research Catherine Hill. “It’s somewhat of a vicious cycle. The kids who are harassers often have been harassed themselves.”

On Friday, citing “longstanding and important Executive Branch confidentiality interests,” White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler refused a House panel’s demand for “all communications among White House staff and officials” relating to Solyndra.
Solyndra is one of the administration’s pet “green energy” firms. It received a $535 million loan guarantee from the Department of Energy before its top executives took the Fifth before Congress.
What’s been unearthed so far is embarrassing enough. The Obama administration seems to have rushed the deal through despite multiple warning flags and a lack of due diligence. The now-bankrupt firm, whose largest shareholder is a major Obama fundraiser, spent some $1.8 million on lobbying while waiting for the guarantee.
“If we want to compete with China,” the president said recently, “we’ve got to make sure that our guys here in the United States of America at least have a shot.” “Our guys,” indeed.

This isn’t your father’s America. As promised, President Obama is “fundamentally transforming” the nation with a plan to flood the United States with individuals whose hearts belong to other lands. The message to illegal immigrants is if you can get in and keep out of further trouble, you’re welcome to stay. The Land of the Free has become the land of the home-free.
On Oct. 31, the Justice Department sued South Carolina in federal court to block the state’s strict new immigration law, set to take effect Jan. 1. The move mirrors earlier Justice actions to halt toughened rules in Arizona and Alabama. In all three jurisdictions, legislators were attempting to deploy state statutes to enforce federal immigration law that U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. has refused to uphold. In this manner, the Obama administration is placing greater importance on protecting the rights of illegals than those of American citizens wishing to maintain an orderly immigration process.
The new South Carolina statute would require that law enforcers alert federal immigration officials when a detainee is suspected of being in the country illegally. It would also mandate that businesses use the federal government’s E-Verify computer system to confirm legal status of new hires. The Justice Department argues such measures are unconstitutional and would divert resources from more critical security needs.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has jumped into second place in Iowa, ahead of Mitt Romney, according to a poll released Monday.
An automated poll conducted by We Ask America, found that 18 percent of likely caucus goers would vote for Gingrich if the caucuses were held today. Cain is still in first place with 22 percent, despite weathering a week of sexual harassment allegations. Gingrich edges out Mitt Romney, who is in third at 15 percent.

Sharon Bialek of Chicago became the first woman accusing Herman Cain of sexual harassment to go public Monday, describing an alleged incident in Washington in 1997 in which the president contender, then the president of the National Restaurant Association stuck his hand up her skirt and tried to pull her head toward his crotch. “I said, ‘What are you doing?’” alleged Bialek, who said she had contacted Cain for help getting a job.
“You know I have a boyfriend. This isn’t what I came here for.” According to Bialek, Cain answered, “You want a job, right?” Bialek claims that after the incident she rejoined her boyfriend and told him that Cain had been “sexually inappropriate.”

Because of the media manufactured scandal involving Herman Cain, we must revisit a real sex scandal. The scandal with which the left wing media had little problem — the violent rape of Juanita Broaddrick.
Gloria Allred, an attorney the filed the first formal charges against Sen. Bob Packwood for sexual harassment, is a rape survivor herself who never reported the rape to police. Whether or not anything could be done legally about Broaddrick’s rape, Ms. Allred insisted, to her credit, that the public had a right to know if the president is a rapist.
Allred had to say the public had the right to know to protect her position as women’s advocate. There is, however, a part of the story people don’t know. I managed to convince Gloria’s secretary to put me through on the phone at the time of the rape allegations to see if she would be interested in helping Juanita. Of course, she was not interested. The rapist was, after all, a Democrat and president. To help Juanita would have destroyed her ambulance chasing business.
The assault of Kathleen Willey in the Oval Office was also a non-issue to the leftist mainstream media, which is a solid and trusted part of the Democratic Party.

Concern that Americans distrust the government so much that they might might panic in response to the Emergency Alert System test this week prompted officials to shorten the alert to just 30 seconds, illustrating how sensitive citizens are at the moment to the actions of federal authorities.

The original alert message was planned to last up to three and a half minutes, but concerns arising out of the fact that the TV broadcast of the alert may not include the message “this is a test,” have led to the interruption to be shortened to just 30 seconds.
The test will take place at 1pm CST on Wednesday, breaking into all conventional television and radio broadcasts, who for the very first time have no control over whether to allow the government to override their broadcasting platforms.
“When it announced the test earlier this year, FEMA originally said it could last as long as three-and-a-half minutes, but the agency acknowledged to news organizations that it had reduced the test’s duration, apparently over public concerns,” reports Government Security News, citing “public anxiety” over the alert caused by emails and Internet stories being circulated that question, “the government’s motives behind the test.”

The U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, as well as the Canadian military have begun an extensive annual field training exercise for the U.S. Northern Command.
“Operation Vigilant Shield 12” is the biggest multi-spectrum, high-level exercise for the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command. Northern Command is a Unified Combatant Command of the United States military, formed in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 to protect the United States homeland and support local, state, and federal authorities.
Operation Vigilant Shield 12, or VS 12, is a joint exercise supported by the Joint Coalition Warfare Center and conducted as a command post exercise with a supporting field training exercise in Key West, FL. The exercise is also linked to a Canada Command exercise called “Determined Dragon,” and runs concurrently with the Arizona’s “Vigilant Guard” exercise. It runs Nov. 1-10.

That is obviously a sliver of total bank deposits, but banks have been sent a clear measure.

Vatican City, Nov 6, 2011 / 02:26 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Benedict XVI told pilgrims to Rome Nov. 6 that a loss of faith in Jesus Christ has led many people to despair in the face of death.
“If we remove God, if we take away Christ, the world will fall back into the void and darkness,” he said in his Sunday Angelus address in St. Peter’s Square.
“And this is also reflected in the expressions of contemporary nihilism, an often subconscious nihilism that unfortunately plagues many young people.”
The Pope charted the impact that the Christian message had upon the ancient world where “the religion of the Greeks, the cults and pagan myths were not able to shed light on the mystery of death.” He noted that ancient inscriptions read “In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus,” meaning “How quickly we fall back from nothing to nothing.”
Thus St Paul reminded the Christians of Ephesus that they were “without hope and without God in the world” before their conversion to Christianity, whereas afterwards they no longer grieved “like the rest, who have no hope.”
“Faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ,” said the Pope, is “a decisive watershed.” It is the “definite” difference between “believers and nonbelievers,” or “those who hope and who do not hope.”
The attainment of this eternal life with Christ, the Pope said, is depicted in today’s Gospel reading where Christ recounts the parable of the ten maidens invited to a wedding: five wise ones who were readied with oil in their lamps upon the groom’s arrival and five foolish ones who were not.
He explained how St. Augustine, the great theologian of the fourth and fifth centuries, along with many other ancient authors, saw the maiden’s oil as “a symbol of love, which you cannot buy, but is received as a gift, conserve within ourselves, and practiced in our deeds.”
Our Last Judgment, therefore, will be “based on the love we practiced in our earthly life.” That is why it is “true wisdom” to take advantage of mortal life to carry out works of mercy, because “after our death, it will no longer be possible.”
Our model and guide along the way, he concluded, was the Virgin Mary, the Seat of Wisdom. For this reason, he said, the Church speaks to the Mother of God with the words: “vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra – life, sweetness, and our hope.”

The Republican Party seems to be struggling to find a candidate it can unite around. One impediment may be a mindset common among some of my fellow Tea Partiers, a false dichotomy that if you are in government you are part of the problem, and if you are not in government, you are part of the solution — whatever those problems or solutions may be.
Herman Cain says, “The folks in Washington have held public office. How’s that working out for you?” It’s a catchy comeback. But is government tenure, whether recent or not, the reality of the problems in Washington?
The biggest problem in Washington today is that we have a president who basically has no experience doing anything important or relevant. And he has surrounded himself with advisors and staff that are inexperienced as well. That’s the problem.
This problem can befall Democrats or Republicans. Let me give a Republican example. President Bush‘s first cabinet had many folks with Washington experience like Donald Rumsfeld, John Ashcroft, Mel Martinez, Norm Mineta, and Spencer Abraham. All of these, except Mineta, were conservatives. Many of their replacements had no Washington experience. Most folks would agree that Bush’s second term was not as successful as his first. Experience was the difference. Next, let’s look at the recent Tea Party successes. Two of the biggest successes are Marco Rubio, who had legislative experience, and Scott Walker, who had much executive and legislative experience. I won’t belabor the Tea Party failures here. Needless to say, some of them lacked valuable experience. And what about folks in Washington who agree with the Tea Party, like Senator DeMint or Congressman Pence? They predate the Tea Party but they believe the same policies. Are they part of the problem? No, they are not.

I have seen many distasteful pictures from the Occupy Wall Street movement, but none tops this young man defecating on the American Flag. Thousands have died for what this flag represents, yet we have raised a generation of ungrateful idiots that don’t even understand what they have.
I am reminded of the wise words of Ronald Reagan, who said:
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.
Tyranny may be closer than we think. And to think Obama admires these people.

Everything about the car spoke to its purpose of homologating the unique Boss 302 engine for Trans-Am racing. And to top it off, Parnelli Jones drove a Bud Moore-prepared ’70 Boss 302 to the 1970 Trans-Am championship, adding yet another notch to the Boss 302 legend.
Now the Boss 302 is back as a ’12 model. Although production is limited like the original, we’re already starting to see them on the street, at shows, and on the track. It’s a different car for a different place in automotive time, improved by the advance of technology yet basking in the glow of the legend established by the ’69-’70s.

Now, I am sure that some of you view these remarks as just another libertarian tirade, and I guess to some degree, they are.
Yet, I think there is an important underlying point that requires serious reflection. Namely, with people the world over trapped in a delusional and self-destructive cycle of believing that the Godvernments can solve all that ails – even though almost all that ails is caused or made worse by those very same institutions – then things can only get worse from here.
It’s like all but the tiniest minority of the world’s population have been brainwashed into joining a dangerous cult. A cult whose leaders are unscrupulous about stripping their followers of their wealth, their dignity (see cartoon above) and their sense of individuality, while rewarding their most ardent supporters with pensions, tax breaks, a leg up over competitors and, if push comes to shove, hard cash in the form of bailouts.

Now, look here, Ma’am. You need to rethink this drug thing. It’s not going well. It isn’t going to go well. The Bare Skirmish on Drugs (BSkOD) may have seemed a good idea when Reefer Madness came out, or even in the Sixties a half century ago.
Now, no. Everyone with the brains of a microwave oven knows that DEA serves only to keep prices up so that the narcos in Mexico can afford classy military weaponry and gorgeous mansions.
It isn’t the fault of DEA. In my days on the police desk I knew a fair few DEA guys, including the magnificent Frank White and…well, others.
They were ballsy, smart, savvy, and realistic cowboys, the best company I can imagine. They did their jobs as well as they could which, under the circumstances, was well indeed.
That’s them. Fact is, though, DEA as an organization ain’t done jack-shit about drugs. I’m sorry, but there it is. It’s like a law of logic. If you set out to do something impossible, you won’t do it. That’s DEA.
A little history if I may. In the Sixties, when mind candy went universal, we had pot, acid, shrooms, mescaline, and various amphetamines. Scag was a ghetto drug for strung-out crashers like William Burroughs, coke mostly unknown, and crack nonexistent.
OK, half-century later. To my certain knowledge, today in suburban Washington, as for example at Washington and Lee High where my daughters did time, kids can buy all the aforementioned goodies, plus nitrous, Ecstasy, crystal and, within a five-minute drive, there may still be an open-air crack market in the parking lot of Green Valley pharmacy. Crack isn’t a kid drug, but it is easily available all over Washington.

What is the deal with MSNBC folks being anti-Second Amendment lately? Last week it was fill in host Craig Melvin and this week it’s analyst and Huffington Post writer Alex Wagner.
Wagner was on Real Time With Bill Maher and when asked about what should be changed in the Constitution, Wagner said we should get rid of the Second Amendment.

Rick Santorum has announced his “Faith, Family, and Freedom” tour in Iowa.
Santorum may be dragging up the rear in the line-up of Republican presidential candidates, but I am grateful to him for being the only candidate who insists that the so-called “social issues” remain an integral, explicit part of his agenda.
That’s not to say that the other conservative candidates disagree with Santorum’s take on these issues – traditional values, abortion, marriage – but Santorum has been the only one to insist that you cannot consider the economy independent of the way the individual human beings that make up the economy behave.
Even Polk County Republican Chairman Kevin McLaughlin in Iowa takes issue with Santorum’s insistence on pushing the social agenda.
McLaughlin says – and he’s far from alone on this – that candidates at this time should just be talking about the “stuff that is putting money in people’s pockets.”
Santorum insists that there is a “moral component” to economic problems and that claims that one can be discussed meaningfully without the other are bogus.

Michael Mukasey served as the Attorney General of the United States from 2007-2009, as a U.S. district judge for the Southern District of New York from 1988-2006, and as an assistant U.S. attorney for that same district from 1972-1976. The following is adapted from a speech delivered in Washington, D.C., on September 15, 2011, at the Second Annual Constitution Day Celebration sponsored by Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship.
President Obama campaigned for office largely on the claim that his predecessor had shredded the Constitution. By the Constitution, he could not have meant the document signed on September 17, 1787. Article II of that document begins with a simple declaration:
“The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.” Not “some” or “most” or even “all but a teeny-weeny bit” of the executive power. The President is vested with all of it. This is particularly noteworthy when compared with the enumerated legislative powers vested in Congress: “All legislative Powers herein granted.” The Founders understood, based in part on their unfortunate experience under the Articles of Confederation, that the branch of government most likely to be in need of the ability to act quickly and decisively is the executive. The branch most likely to overreach is the legislature.

It is a fair assumption that the western powers had been trying their best to spy on the Islamic Republic since the 1979 Iranian revolution, but the 2007 “presidential finding” put those efforts on a new footing.
Bush asked Congress to approve $400m for a programme of support for rebel ethnic groups, as well as intelligence gathering and sabotage of the nuclear programme. Part of that effort involved slipping defective parts such as centrifuge components into the black market supply to Iran, designed to blow apart while in operation and in so doing bring down all the centrifuges in the vicinity.
