NY1 Exclusive: Perry Defends Ad That Rips Obama In Visit To NYC

The Federal Law Enforcement Foundation gave Texas Governor Rick Perry its State Service Award Friday.
“As much as I appreciate this recognition, it pales in comparison to the appreciation I have for those who live by that solemn oath to protect and defend and to serve,” said Perry.
The Republican presidential hopeful told the crowd of local and federal law enforcement leaders that he would secure the U.S.-Mexican border in the first year of a Perry presidency.
“I will secure the border with thousands of new border agents, a substantial increase in strategic fencing, and aviation assets that will provide real-time intelligence to officers on the ground,” said Perry.
He also hit on how he would fix Washington by limiting federal judges to no longer having lifetime appointments, getting rid of three federal agencies and giving Congress an overhaul.
“Cut their pay in half, cut their budgets in half, and cut the time they spend in Washington in half and America will be better off,” said Perry.
Perry launched his plan this week, the same week he began airing an attack on President Barack Obama.
“We’ve been a little bit lazy over the past couple of decades,” says Obama in the ad, which Perry slams.
“Do you believe that? That’s what our president thinks is wrong with America,” says Perry.
In an exclusive interview with NY1 Friday, the Texas governor defended the ad even though others have criticized the TV spot because Obama was talking about foreign investment, not necessarily all Americans.
“That is a direct affront to the American people,” said Perry. “We need a president that’s proud of America,” said Perry.
