“Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations – entangling alliances with none.”
~ Thomas Jefferson, First Inaugural Address
“The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible . . . . It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world.”
~ George Washington’s Farewell Address

Of all the Republican presidential candidates, only Ron Paul believes in and adheres to the American foreign policy philosophy of Washington and Jefferson. For this he, and all other like-minded statesmen over the past seven decades, have been misleadingly smeared as “isolationists.” In this context, “isolationist” is truly Orwellian. By advocating peace and free trade, and only supporting just and defensive war, Ron Paul is advocating the maximum possible interaction between the peoples of the world.

…..Thomas Jefferson understood that democracy could never work in a country as large as the U.S., let alone one with more than 300 million people. In a January 29, 1804 letter to Dr. Joseph Priestly he wrote: “Whether we remain one confederacy, or form into Atlantic and Mississippi confederacies, I believe not very important to the happiness of either part.

Image via Wikipedia
Those of the western confederacy will be as much our children & descendants as those of the eastern.” On the topic of secession, Jefferson continued: “[D]id I now foresee a separation at some future day, yet I should feel the duty & the desire to promote the western interests as zealously as the eastern, doing all the good for both portions of our future family which should fall within my power.” When the New England Federalists were threatening secession, Jefferson wrote to his friend John C. Breckinridge on August 12, 1803 that if New England seceded and created a second confederacy, “God bless them both if it be for their good, but separate them, if it is better.”
Unlike Lincoln, Jefferson did not believe in threatening “bloodshed” in the case of a “separation” or secession. He understood that such behavior would be a moral abomination and an unimaginable act of barbarianism. A civilized society does not wage total war on “our children,” as Jefferson described the future citizens of a new state formed by an act of secession. Yet it is Lincoln, not Jefferson, who is portrayed by American court historians as a kindly, benevolent, and charitable angel.
The Constitution long ago ceased placing any meaningful limits on governmental power. This social contract between the American people and their government was destroyed long ago by Hamiltonian nationalists. Americans now live under a series of dictators (called “presidents”) who all believe that they are essentially dictators of the world, capable of ordering the bombing of any place on earth without anyone’s approval. (Within weeks, Obama dipped his hands in blood by ordering a few bombs to be dropped in Pakistan)…..

Unhinged Chris Matthews Shrieks: ‘Deadly,’ Satanic Newt Gingrich Is a ‘Political Killer’

Hardball’s Chris Matthews on Monday spewed hatred for Newt Gingrich, excoriating him as voicing “deadly” contempt for Barack Obama. Matthews trashed, “He’s a political killer, a gun for hire.” The unhinged Matthews compared Republicans who support the former Speaker to those who would make a deal with the devil. I’m sensing some panic in the air. Certain people seem mighty concerned that other people are…discovering Hayek. As a W. S. Gilbert character might say, Oh horror!
Economics and business reporter David Warsh is getting much attention for suggesting that F. A. Hayek, far from being one of the two most prominent economists of the 1930s—the other being Keynes—is rather more like the woman who was thought to have won the Boston marathon in 1980 when in fact she had joined the race, mostly unnoticed, a half-mile from the finish line.

The Magnificent Seven, now considered a classic Western, wasn’t a hit when it was released in 1960. Based on Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai, this allegorical tale was transplanted to the southern border of the American frontier and populated with a stellar cast of manly actors—Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn and Eli Wallachas the leader of the predatory bandit band that terrorizes a small Mexican village.

In view of Hollywood’s enthusiasm for sequels and our current political situation, I believe the time is right for a remake.
In the original film, the peaceful farmers of the Mexican village are all hard-working and able to support themselves. For the remake, recast in the villagers’ roles would be the American middle class. They are self-reliant, industrious, and uncomplaining. They are the settlers, the providers, the builders of their community.
The villagers are regularly raided by the bandit Calvera and his gang of thieves. They take anything of value, from produce to poultry, leaving only enough to allow the villagers to subsist and produce more goods for the taking. The villagers are beyond the help of the law—Calvera makes the rules. When one villager suggests hiding a little extra from the raiders, another says, “Calvera never takes everything.

“I have learned that you should never give up on your opposition,” Paul told moderators George Stephanopoulos and Diane Sawyer. “Because if you’re persistent and you present your case, they will come your way.”
What prompted the remarks were compliments from Texas Governor Rick Perry, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Each of the candidates were prompted by Sawyer to describe one thing they had learned from their opponents on the stage. Rick Perry said:
Congressman Paul got me really intrigued with the whole, with the Federal Reserve, and I spent a substantial amount of time reading about a book called Currency Wars, the book by James Rickards. Congressman Paul is the individual on this stage that got me most interested in a subject that I found to be quite interesting and I found at the root of a lot of the problems that we have. Andrew Breitbart Goes Off On ‘Coward’ Glenn Beck: ‘He Is Dead To Me’

Glenn Beck is very much not a fan of Newt Gingrich. If anyone didn’t yet know that from this interview, he made it very clear Saturday on Fox Business Network when he alleged that Gingrich was so similar to President Obama in his “progressive” ways, that the only reason Tea Partiers would like him over the President would be because of his race. Unsurprisingly, this has caused some anger. Even less surprisingly, one of those angry voices is Andrew Breitbart, a man who is very much not a fan of Glenn Beck.

Starting on December 12th in Washington, DC, a meeting is being held that jeopardizes freedom of speech as we currently understand it in the United States. The Obama Administration has invited the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (“OIC,” formerly, The Organization of the Islamic Conference) to a meeting of “experts” to discuss the implementation of a UN resolution ostensibly targeting “religious intolerance.” Now, even if by combating “religious intolerance” the resolution were just targeting actual violations of freedom of religion (READ: violating rights, not hurting feelings), it still should raise a few eyebrows that the OIC is behind the resolution and was invited as a partner to these meetings. The Jeddah-based OIC includes as its members such “champions” of human rights and religious freedom and tolerance as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, and Iran.

Statement by Gov. Rick Perry on Obama Administration’s Decision to Slash Number of National Guard troops at U.S.-Mexico Border
Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s decision to cut the number of National Guard troops at the U.S.-Mexico border:
“President Obama’s decision to slash the number of National Guard troops patrolling and securing our southern border is proof that this administration has no intention to truly secure the border or listen to the American citizens, communities and law enforcement who care about border security and public safety.
“After spending billions on failed federal stimulus and bolstering job-killing regulatory agencies in Washington, President Obama now says he can’t find the funds to maintain even current National Guard troop levels to protect us against crime at the border. Cutting border troop levels adds insult to the injury of the Obama Administration attacking states that have been forced to take immigration matters into their own hands.
“This decision is all the more appalling given the actions of Attorney General Eric Holder, who let thousands of guns fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels through the botched Fast and Furious program. Now is not the time to cut security efforts.

What began as an attempt to restrain foreign piracy on the Internet has morphed into a domestic “kill switch” on First Amendment freedom in the fastest-growing corner of the marketplace of ideas.
Proposed federal legislation purporting to protect online intellectual property would also impose sweeping new government mandates on internet service providers – a positively Orwellian power grab that would permit the U.S. Justice Department to shut down any internet site it doesn’t like (and cut off its sources of income) on nothing more than a whim.

Schmidt said the controverisal Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) would punish Web firms, including search engines, that link to foreign websites dedicated to online piracy. He said implementing the bill as written would effectively break the Internet.
“By criminalizing links, what these bills do is they force you to take content off the Internet,” Schmidt said, calling it a form of censorship.

A special message for President Obama flying over Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Dec. 11, 2011 |
A banner asking “Where’s the real birth certificate?” took to the skies above Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, to let everyone within eyeshot know there are serious questions about the authenticity of Barack Obama’s purported record of birth.
The banner was originally set to fly above the same stadium during the Cowboys’ annual Thanksgiving Day game, but had to be postponed due to inclement weather.
“This flyover is another manifestation of our national billboard campaign that began three years ago, asking simply, ‘Where’s the birth certificate?’” explained Joseph Farah, founder of WND. “The question today is, ‘Where’s the REAL birth certificate?’ since Jerome Corsi’s new e-book on the subject completely discredits its validity. We have used billboards because the rest of the media refuses to address seriously the problems of Obama’s eligibility. And we will continue to use other creative efforts to address one of the most serious constitutional questions facing our country, namely, ‘Is Obama actually eligible for office?’”

Senate Bill 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act, drafted in secret by Senators Carl Levin (D-Mich) and John McCain (R-AZ), contains a provision that authorizes the armed forces to arrest and imprison without charge or trial those suspected of involvement in or support of terrorist organizations, including American citizens resident in the United States.
Not since the summary detention of Asian Americans during the Second World War on suspicion of potential complicity with the Axis enemies of the United States has a law promised to violate in a more direct and profound manner the rights of the American people.
An amendment offered to eliminate this provision by Senator Rand Paul was defeated. The bill, containing this provision, passed the Senate on December 1 by a vote of 93 to 7. The bill and a comparable defense bill in the House, H.R. 1540, are in a House-Senate conference committee. If the provision survives negotiations between the House and the Senate, it will appear in a final bill headed for the President’s signature.
The history of modern government is rife with examples of the innocent accused. While none of us would favor a state that was less than vigilant in arresting and prosecuting American citizens for whom evidence reveals involvement in terrorist activities, no freedom loving American should accept on the pretext of the war on terror the wholesale and indefinite suspension of all Americans basic rights to Habeas Corpus, to Due Process under the Fifth Amendment, and to notice of the precise charges brought, to a speedy trial on the merits before an impartial judge, to a trial by jury, and to counsel–all guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment…..

Heralding a New Level of the Police State

It is a sign of just how fast the police state is advancing that drones in American skies have gone from conspiracy theory to admitted fact in about a year.
In a precedent-setting event, local law enforcement in North Dakota nabbed three suspected armed men with the help of a Predator B unmanned drone. It was only after the drone confirmed that the men were unarmed that police moved in to make the arrest.
It has now become clear that, as we have written and warned about for the past year, the drones that were supposedly commissioned strictly as tools for border control will now patrol inland for suspected criminals on American soil, heralding a new level of police state oppression.

President Obama’s appearance last night on “60 Minutes” confirms how severely out of touch he is with political reality. He has become entirely predictable, and his insincerity is unrestrained.
There is the phony familiarity, a strained attempt to bond with working-class voters he’s lost. We therefore have an epidemic of missing “g’s”: He tells Steve Kroft: “Look, the — everybody’s at — concerned about inequality. Those folks in there, who were listenin’ to the speech, those are teachers and small-business people, and probably some small-town bankers, who are in there thinking to themselves, ‘How is it that I, we’re workin’ so hard,’ and meanwhile, they know that corporate profits are at a record level, that a lot of folks are doin’ very well. What’s happened to the bargain? What’s happened to the American deal that says, you know, we are focused on building a strong middle class?” I am ready to bet the farm he didn’t talk that way at Harvard.

The Constitution and the American way of life are already under intense assault by enemies of the republic. The signs of degeneration are out there in plain sight.
The Obama Administration has spent the United States treasury to the brink of national bankruptcy, which has set the stage for the desired social unrest.
The Occupy War Street movement was just a test of Obama’s chaos strategy. The weakness demonstrated by politicians nationwide has only encouraged future, larger and more violent confrontations to support the Obama agenda either to transform America by force or, if that fails, destroy her.
Expect Occupy Flash Mobs to increase attacks on businesses and Obama opponents.

One characteristic that makes this sector attractive is its extraordinary earnings growth potential.
From Bernstein’s 2012 outlook:
We continue to believe the best secular investment theme in the global equity markets is US small caps. Smaller US companies are starved for capital much the way that emerging markets, energy, commodities were ten years ago. By definition, capital starved companies’ higher cost of capital translates to higher expected returns for investors.

…..Conclusion
Obama’s ‘crackpot realism’, his shift from wars in the Muslim world to military confrontation in Asia , has no intrinsic worth and poses extraordinary extrinsic costs. The military methods and economic goals are totally incompatible and beyond the capacity of the US , as it is currently constituted. Washington ’s policies will not ‘weaken’ Russia or China , even less intimidate them. Instead it will encourage both to adopt more adversarial positions, making it less likely that they lend a hand to Obama’s sequential wars on behalf of Israel . Already Russia has sent warships to its Syrian port, refused to support an arms embargo against Syria and Iran and (in retrospect) criticized the NATO war against Libya . China and Russia have far too many strategic ties with the world economy to suffer any great losses from a series of US military outposts and “exclusive” alliances. Russia can aim just as many deadly nuclear missiles at the West as the US can mount from its bases in Eastern Europe .
In other words, Obama’s military escalation will not change the nuclear balance of power, but will bring Russia and China into a closer and deeper alliance. Gone are the days of Kissinger-Nixon’s “divide and conquer” strategy pitting US-Chinese trade agreements against Russian arms. Washington has a totally exaggerated significance of the current maritime spats between China and its neighbors. What unites them in economic terms is far more important in the medium and long-run. China ’s Asian economic ties will erode any tenuous military links to the US .
Obama’s “crackpot realism”, views the world market through military lenses. Military arrogance toward Asia has led to a rupture with Pakistan , its most compliant client regime in South Asia . NATO deliberately slaughtered 24 Pakistani soldiers and thumbed their nose at the Pakistani generals, while China and Russia condemned the attack and gained influence.

…..The internet, too, you’ll recall, was supposed to liberate us all from the confines of government control, a theory that didn’t work out so well for Julian Assange. Indeed, Assange’s persecution is one of many post-9/11 realities confirming Hadar’s contention “that the Political Man remained alive and well, including in these United States. Notwithstanding the end of the Cold War, fresh rationales emerged for perpetuating our warfare state – political Islam, a resurgent Russia, a rising China, climate change, humanitarian disasters.”
That these habitués of the Beltway naively discounted the persistence of Political Man, and innocently repeated the error of 19th century classical liberals who saw the progress of mankind toward liberty as inevitable and irrevocable, is hard to believe. And, indeed, Hadar does more than hint that “libertarian” support for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan – and the “color revolutions” in the former Soviet republics – was very far from an innocent error. The anti-interventionist libertarian critique of these wars, he writes,
“Received very little attention in the first stages of the military response to 9/11 and during the invasion of Iraq [and this] could be explained by the disproportionate influence of pro-war libertarians operating from think tanks and magazines affiliated with the movement. Brink Lindsey, for example, then with the Cato Institute, called for invading Iraq in a January 2003 Reason online debate, suggesting among other things that regime change “offers the opportunity to attack radical Islamism at its roots: the dismal prevalence of political repression and economic stagnation throughout the Muslim world” and that “the establishment of a reasonably liberal and democratic Iraq could serve as a model for positive change throughout the region.”

The Hot Race Nobody Is Talking About (It’s really the Tea Party vs the GOP Establishment)
National Review ^ | 12/12/2011 | Andrew Stiles

The Iowa caucuses are still weeks away, but those in search of a hotly contested GOP election need look no farther than the Capitol this Tuesday, when Senate Republicans will select a new vice chairman of the GOP conference.
What may seem like a relatively mundane affair (vice chairman of the conference is the lowest-ranking leadership position), some are billing it as a monumental struggle for the very soul of the Republican party. RedState founder Erick Erickson, for example, is touting the race, which pits Sen. Ron Johnson (R., Wis.) against Sen. Roy Blunt (R., Mo.), as “the most important fight for conservatives in America.”…..

For all intents and purposes, FEMA / DHS is now activating camps across the nation – in all 50 states – and ramping them up for detainment if and when the need arises.
Security, while not mentioned in the KBR release, is an issue addressed previously under guidance of the U.S. military. In an August 2009 report we highlighted that the Army is Hiring for Internment/Resettlement Specialists, in which we noted:
It seems that the US Government is preparing for a high volume of military prisoners. We suspect these will not be foreign nationals, as we either kill them or detain them outside of the USA. So, one must conclude that these corrections, interment and resettlement specialists will be supervising US citizens. The military is calling them internment camps or resettlement camps. Back in World War II they were called by a different name.
Additionally, we have learned over the last couple of years that FEMA has requisitioned manufacturers for 140 Million Packets of Food, Blankets, and Body Bags, while the U.S. military is Actively War Gaming ‘Large Scale Economic Breakdown’ and ‘Civil Unrest’ which includes training for over 20,000 US military personnel for contingencies that may include riots and/or mass detentions.

OK, that’s two victims.
I’ve just discovered that Ford has dropped the Ranger – America’s last compact-sized truck – for 2012. But not from its lineup. Just from its U.S. model lineup. Not only will the Ranger continue to be sold in export markets, the 2012 model will be a heavily updated model which, among other things, will offer a new diesel engine – something you can’t get in any current pick-up in the U.S. that’s not at least a 2500 series behemoth with a price tag well over $30,000. Meanwhile, the Aussies, among others, will get a brand-new Ranger, revealed at the Thailand International Motor Expo last month. It is a handsome-looker, with an available quad cab body and an all-new interior.
The 2.2 liter, four-cylinder Duratorq TDCi diesel-equipped version – offered with either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic – sounds like just the ticket for the U.S. market, too.
But, we lose. It’s not coming here.
The official reason for not giving American buyers the opportunity to buy this truck is that – supposedly – Ranger is too close to F-150 and so “redundant.”

Punishing politicians for corruption is like scolding the Black Death for killing folks.
So we can empathize with the fury, despair and “why-me?” shock that must have roiled Illinois’ former Congresscriminal and governor, Rod Blagojevich, at his arrest, trial, and conviction, let alone his sentencing last week on nebulous charges that boil down to … governing. Show me the politician who doesn’t swap favors and peddle influence as tirelessly as normal people breathe.
Despite the preening of Blago’s smug prosecutor, self-righteous judge and the State’s cheerleaders in the media, condemning the poor slob to 14 years’ imprisonment is equivalent to exterminating one rat out of the millions spreading plague in medieval Europe: it’s the teeniest, tiniest start on curing what ails us. Judge James Zagel should round up the rest of the elected or appointed leeches and herd them off to the pokey, too, then follow and lock the door behind himself.

…..To argue that the Paul 2012 campaign will not have a “lasting impact” is highly problematic. He has already introduced libertarians to billions of people all over the world, he has inspired millions of people to seriously consider this philosophy, and, with his constant mention of Austrian economics, Murray N. Rothbard and Ludwig von Mises he has tuned in hundreds of thousands of people to sound economics. No “lasting impact?”

Image via Wikipedia
To be fair to Wendy McElroy, she wrote this essay on August 17, 2007, and the Ron Paul campaign of 2012 is vastly outstripping that of 2008 in terms of impact. However, that scurrilous piece of hers of 2007 is still on the web. Anyone can access it, even now. Has she apologized for this essay? Not to the best of my knowledge. Has she revised it in response to the far greater success of the Ron Paul campaign this time around? Not to the best of my knowledge. She ends her evil screed on this note: More on this as I find time to blog… Has she done so? Again, Not to the best of my knowledge. For shame, say I.
1) the libertarian support for Paul – a candidate who cannot win because the Republicans will not nominate him – effectively guarantees that a real libertarian candidate who actually voices libertarianism will not be heard. Yes, but an LP candidate has no chance of winning, you say? Well neither does Paul. I do not support the LP because I think electoral politics is part of society’s problems not part of the solution, nevertheless, I do not dismiss the possibility that a principled LP candidate may be able to educate or raise awareness. That’s always been the LP’s strongest argument. But, now, instead of a libertarian candidate who cannot win, libertarians are choosing to back a right wing conservative who cannot win. Libertarians are not even saying “put MY guy in office”; they are crying out “put THEIR guy in office because he says some of the right things”. The stance doesn’t make sense even to a pro-voting libertarian.

Special preface to my friends in the military, law enforcement and intelligence and other government servants: You are sworn to defend and uphold the Constitution, and the facts below may help you do so.
We’ve been told that “9/11 changed everything” and that we’re living in “a post-911 world”.
We’ve been told that what our government is doing now has been rendered necessary by the urgent post-9/11 threat from terrorists.
In reality, however, virtually everything happening now was planned before 9/11. Please see for yourself:

White House removed language that would have protected Americans from Section 1031 of NDAA
Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet.com
Monday, December 12, 2011
Despite reports that Obama is planning to veto the National Defense Authorization Act, Senator Carl Levin has revealed it was the administration itself that lobbied to remove language from the bill that would have protected American citizens from being detained indefinitely without trial.
“The language which precluded the application of Section 1031 to American citizens was in the bill that we originally approved…and the administration asked us to remove the language which says that U.S. citizens and lawful residents would not be subject to this section,” said Levin, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee.
“It was the administration that asked us to remove the very language which we had in the bill which passed the committee…we removed it at the request of the administration,” said Levine, emphasizing, “It was the administration which asked us to remove the very language the absence of which is now objected to.”
