We Know More About Jesus‘s Birth Than Obama’s

A few years back, the Harvard-educated Paul Mirecki, then head of the Religious Studies Department at Kansas University, proposed a new class.

His goal, as he told his cohorts in an atheist and agnostic chat room, was to give “fundies” — i.e., orthodox Christians — “a nice slap in their big fat face by teaching [intelligent design] as a religious studies class under the category ‘mythology.’”

Mirecki did not expect any pushback from KU. “The majority of my colleagues here in the dept [sic] are agnostics or atheists, or they just don’t care,” wrote Mirecki. “If any of them are theists, it hasn’t been obvious to me in the 15 years I’ve been here.”

Unwittingly, Mirecki opened a window on the world of religious scholarship. At least since Darwin, cynics like Mirecki have been working to subvert Christianity under the guise of religious studies. The notorious, 150-scholar strong “Jesus Seminar” would seem to have no higher calling.

As the record will show, however, the subversives have not succeeded. The story of Jesus’s birth, as well as his death, remains as rooted in the historical record as it was before these researchers began their unholy labors.

Sheriff Joe ‘suspicious’ of motive behind Obama attacks

December 25, 2011 9 comments

Sheriff Joe Arpaio

speaking in Phoenix, Arizona on February 26, 2011.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona’s Maricopa County has been under fire for his immigration law-enforcement policies from protesters who simply object to what he’s doing, in a lawsuit alleging his department profiles on race, and from the federal government which has canceled agreements with his department to check for violators who arrive at his jail.

Now he’s wondering just how much of that displeasure from Washington is being generated by the perceived White House alarm over his Cold Case Posse investigation checking out suspicions raised by area tea-party officials that Barack Obama may use or try to use fraudulent documents to be on the 2012 presidential ballot in Arizona.

In an interview with WND, the sheriff said, “I am an elected sheriff. I took an oath of office to enforce all the laws of the state of Arizona. I take that very seriously. I do report to the people.”

But he said he’s considering the possibility there are political connections to the circumstances that have developed.

Freshly updated! Get the latest information on Obama’s fraudulent documents in the e-book, “Where’s the REAL Birth Certificate?”

“The investigation, I’m not sure that’s part of the puzzle or not. I wonder why they are going after me,” he said. “I’m a little suspicious of what’s going on. The reason I’m suspicious is that the president mentioned me recently.”

He was talking about Barack Obama’s recent discussion with some Hispanic journalists, and the question one raised about the government’s investigation of Arpaio regarding his civil-rights record.

Prison Planet.com » Huckabee slams Ron Paul, says he has no chance to win Republican nomination

December 25, 2011 7 comments

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who rallied Iowa’s conservative base for a surprise win in Iowa in the 2008 election, said that Ron Paul might win the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3, but that he has no chance of being the Republican nominee.

“Iowa is not so much a place that picks presidents, but it does pick people who are thrust into the upper tier,” Huckabee said on Fox News Sunday. “That’s the history and it gives people credibility. In the case that it’s Ron Paul – and I know I’m going to get a lot of nasty letters and emails too – Ron Paul is not going to be elected president. He’s not.”

“There’s no way (a Paul win in Iowa) is going to do anything other than confuse the race,” he continued. “But he’s not going to get the nomination, that’s for sure.”

Huckabee said that while Paul’s supporters are strongly committed to the candidate, that they represent a small, self-contained movement.

HONOLULU — The Obamas are spending their Christmas vacation in a posh beachfront home overlooking Kailua Bay, though it’s not the same one where they’ve spent their last three holiday visits since the 2008 election.

With the owner of the Kailuana Place home they’d rented in the past choosing to host his own family there this year, the Obamas are renting another home on the same street on the windward side of Oahu.

Local realtor David Dunham is managing the rental, which is a 6,000 square-foot home with interiors designed by Jay Gorsia in deep koa wood with Asian accents.

Dunham wouldn’t say how much the first family is paying to rent the house. “Whatever it costs him, it’s worth it,” he said. “The guy deserves it, he deserves a couple days with his kids.”

Dunham did, though, say the house being put up for sale once the Obamas re

Prominent Rightwing Blogger Promises To Work Hard To Defeat Any Rightwing SOPA Supporters In Congress

from the good-for-him,-how-about-the-left? dept

One of the more interesting things about the whole SOPA/PIPA debate (and, as I’ve pointed out for many years, about any of the intellectual property policy fights) is how non-partisan they are. In fact, I think it’s important that they’re non-partisan, because when things become partisan, they become… well… silly (on both sides). SOPA/PIPA supporters keep touting how their bills have “bi-partisan” support, but I’d argue what’s much more powerful is how the growing movement protesting these bills is almost entirely non-partisan. There are tons of people all over the political spectrum protesting, and none of the discussion has been about broad political philosophies or major party talking points. They’ve all been about the specific issues with the bill.

And that’s creating some interesting opposition that may start to wake up Congress. We’ve definitely seen people associated with both ends of the political spectrum come out against the bills. For example, how often do you see Nancy Pelosi and Darrell Issa agree on something? We’ve also seen some prominent Tea Party groups, like the Tea Party Patriots, as well as prominent “left” movements/sites like MoveOn and DailyKos come out against the bill.

HyperWar: A Magnificent Fight: Marines in the Battle for Wake Island

‘A Difficult Thing To Do’

Wreckage a U.S. Marine Corps Grumman F4F-3 Wil...

Even as deliberations proceeded to determine the fate of the relief efforts, the men on Wake, ignorant of what was transpiring at Pearl Harbor and on the bridges of Task Force 14′s ships, fought on. Shortly before 0700 on Wake (1040, 22 December, at Pearl Harbor), the two trucks bearing Battery D’s former antiaircraft gunners, under Second Lieutenant Greeley and Captain Godbold, respectively, reached Devereux‘s command post. Major Potter deployed in the new arrivals in an attempt to form a thin defensive line running across the island. The attempt was doomed because of the terrain they were being forced to defend, an area which had been partially cleared of brush as part of the airfield construction. It presented the Marines with 450 yards of ground without cover or concealment. Marine Gunner Borth established a defensive line near the battalion command post with two .30-caliber guns crewed by command post Marines and a few Marines from Battery D.

At about the time Greeley and Godbold reached Devereux’s command post with Battery D’s Marines, Second Lieutenant Kessler, at Battery B, shifted his attention to a column of three destroyers off Kuku Point. Four U.S. salvos appeared to inflict heavy damage on the lead ship, so he shifted his attention to the second ship in column. After about 15 minutes, dive bombers directed bombs and strafing toward the position, the battery’s firing having called attention to its existence. Fortunately, their accuracy was poor, and Kessler’s men escaped without casualty.

By that time, the situation seemed to be grim.

Their ‘Right’ to Kill, Our Duty to Die: The Murder of Otto Zehm by William Norman Grigg

…..On March 18, 2006, Zehm retrieved some money at an ATM near Zip Trip. Something in his behavior struck two girls as odd, so they called the police. Although there was no reason to believe that Zehm had committed a crime, Thompson entered the store as if he were pursuing a dangerous fugitive. Security video documents that Thompson approached Zehm from behind, while retrieving his custom-made, over-sized ironwood nightstick.

From what I’ve read Mr. Paul would obtain the approval of Congress before sending any troops to fight a war on behalf of the United Nations. I have not heard any of the other candidates make such a promise. We should not be sending our troops to Yugoslavia or Libya because the United Nations has decided that it wants to get rid of a dictator.

I’m not too happy with his position of never engaging with foreign countries although I think that that may be an overstatement. The other candidates should make their positions clear on this otherwise I will have to vote for Ron Paul.

Soldiers Against War by John V. Denson

December 25, 2011 2 comments

The Christmas Truce, which occurred primarily between the British and German soldiers along the Western Front in December 1914, is an event the official histories of the “Great War” leave out, and the Orwellian historians hide from the public. Stanley Weintraub has broken through this barrier of silence and written a moving account of this significant event by compiling letters sent home from the front, as well as diaries of the soldiers involved. His book is entitled Silent Night: The Story of the World War I Christmas Truce. The book contains many pictures of the actual events showing the opposing forces mixing and celebrating together that first Christmas of the war. This remarkable story begins to unfold, according to Weintraub, on the morning of December 19, 1914:

(76 Reader Comments at Present) Rep. Landry Offers Amendment to NDAA to Protect Civil Liberties

Official portrait of Congressman (R-LA).

The National Defense Authorization Act will be made law with the stroke of President Obama’s pen (perhaps autopen from Hawaii?). With the enactment of the NDAA, Americans suspected by the President of having committed a “belligerent act” may be apprehended by the military and detained without recitation of charges and without access to an attorney until such time as the President decides that the “War on Terror” is over.

Majorities in both chambers of Congress voted in favor of granting the President this autocratic authority. In the Senate, only 13 members of that body stood up to defend the constitutionally protected civil liberties of Americans. In the House of Representatives, 283 of the people’s representatives violated their oath of office and voted to pass this legislation.

Reports that Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul stormed out of a CNN interview earlier this week seem to be dramatically over-exaggerated.

Raw footage of the Thursday interview shows that it lasted nearly ten minutes, which is not unusually brief on the campaign trail.

After discussing foreign policy, the payroll tax, negative advertisements, and super fund PACs, the interview concluded with three whole minutes of discussion on the issue of the incendiary racist and homophobic letters that were published in Mr Paul’s name in the Eighties and Nineties.

Alastair Sim’s Scrooge (1951): A Role To Remember by Gary North

Recently by Gary North: Ron Paul‘s Inaugural Address, Written by His First (and Only) Speechwriter

I have written before about Dickens’ marvelous story. It is time to write about Sim’s marvelous performance.

Perhaps a cable TV channel will show Sim’s version of A Christmas Carol. If not, watch it here. Watch it – not just for old time’s sake, but because everyone needs to remind himself that good things happen, but they must start from within.

That is also the message of that other Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life.

In both movies, the bad guy is a money-lender. In both movies, the crucial agents of transforming self-awareness are supernatural. This is also true in the second-tier Christmas film, The Bishop’s Wife. If the range of angels really is from Henry Travers‘ Clarence to Cary Grant’s Dudley, then there is a bell-shaped curve in heaven, too. (As an aside, Carol Kane‘s ghost of Christmas present set the standard in Scrooged. Her winged angel is surely at the far end of the bell-shaped curve for angels.)

I can remember where I first saw the film. I sat alone in a theater in 1951. My parents rarely took me to the movies, but they let me go, and in 1951, I went a lot. We had moved to Denver that year, and there was no television in Denver yet. I was nine years old. I had become a TV addict, beginning in 1949. We had TV in Los Angeles. So, I had learned the delights of moving shadows on a screen. I used movies as a kind of artistic methadone in 1951. Movies reduced the withdrawal symptoms.

That same year, I had been captivated by José Ferrer‘s portrayal of Cyrano. I went back to see it several times. The year closed with Sim’s Scrooge. My standards for acting were set by those two films. Ferrer won the Oscar. Sim was not mentioned. But Sim’s performance is the greatest in any Christmas movie, so it endures and will endure.

SOMERS POINT — Master Commandant Richard Somers will have to wait a little longer to come home, if it happens at all.

Efforts to repatriate the remains of the city’s namesake and U.S. Naval hero — killed with his crew aboard the USS Intrepid in 1804 in Tripoli Harbor during the First Barbary War — date to the 1840s.

Spurred by this year’s political upheaval in Libya, the movement seemed to finally have the congressional backing it needed to order the Department of Defense to take action regarding the return of the bodies of Somers and his men to the U.S.

However, the language in an amendment to the 2012 Defense Authorization bill that ordered the return of the bodies was changed at the last minute in favor of a diluted order for the issue to be further evaluated.

And this was done, supporters of the measure say, at the request of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., a former Navy prisoner of war.
