Is America Worth Saving? | Veterans Today

I am not in a good mood and, perhaps, shouldn’t be writing until I get a good night’s sleep. Here goes anyway. How many remember Kate Smith singing “America the Beautiful”?

That sees beyond the years

America! America! . . .

My God, that sounds like a bad joke!

The Red Man lived on this continent for centuries. He revered the nature of the land that his Great Spirit provided. European settlers and their government systematically massacred those native inhabitants to control the land and its resources. That’s how things were done among men for a very long time. In fact, it is still being done. We protest when it is done to us.

Today’s America does have extremes — wealth and poverty, geniuses and morons, cultured and uneducated, humanitarians and barbarians, but is overwhelmingly populated by those who are increasingly poor, usually shaved and sometimes starched, and utterly barbaric in their appetite for toys and amusement. Are these the ones for whom patriots may be willing to die in order to preserve their liberty? Perhaps it is time to take another look at all of this.

The politically incorrect truth is that what we call civilization in any epoch — music, literature, science, politics and other philosophy — have been the accomplishments of, or patrionized by, a ruling class. Twenty-first Century America is ruled by psychopathic criminals and peopled by a gullible mob that doesn’t know or, worse, doesn’t want to know the truth about anything, especially 9/11, as long as there is gasoline at the pump, a working automobile, professional sports, beer, and television. We were wrong to think of basic needs being food, clothing, and shelter…..
