I’m sure they left this guy’s part out of the movie version, or I’d remember it.

In the latter chapters of the book, Battle Cry, by Leon Uris, the Bn Co, LtCol Huxley (Highpockets), is in his office with his XO, Major Wellman. They are dicussing a new officer due to report aboard. The officer is Max Shapiro; a Marine legend and known as “Two Gun Shapiro.” His record told a story of transfers, demotion, courts-martial, citations for valor, and promotions. It was a book of contradictions.

Huxley knew he was a troublemaker, but, Huxley told Wellman, the book tells only part of the story. He knew that the name Two Gun did not refer to Shapiro as an expert with weapons, on the contrary, Shapiro had bad eyes, the story goes that he had sneaked up on a Jap at close range and fired two clips of forty-fives and missed every shot. Huxley had heard of him back some 10 years prior, Shapiro’s father had gotten him into West Point, where he was low man in his class. One summer he had followed a girl to Europe and married her, only to have the marriage annulled by the girl’s parents. After this he was kicked out of West Point.

He immediately joined the Marine Corps as a private. He was promoted up and demoted down between PFC and Private for 6 years or more. He had been to Shanghai and did duty at the International Settlement in 1937. A few years later, he married the daughter of a general at Quantico, and was promptly shipped off to achieve officer’s rank. A couple years later, they were divorced. Huxley went on to state that Max had been bounced about the Corps from one remote detail to another. He was constantly in the debt of his men, and they called him Max.

The book tells of Shapiro having been a member of Coleman’s Raiders on The Makin Raid and Guadalcanal–a thinly disguised reference to Carlson’s Raiders. Many authors, Uris too I suspect, develop their characters around people they’ve actually known. Or at least do so in some cases, and to one degree or another; some characters are composites of several individuals.

In the following quote, Mac is speaking…”My squad gathered around the large shack that housed the Battalion office. There was rampant excitement. Captain Max Shapiro had been transferred to the Second Battalion to take over Fox Company. The nortorious and glorious Two Gun Shapiro from Coleman’s Raiders who had earned his first Navy Cross in the Makin raid–and a court-martial. He had more decorations and courts-martial than the next three officers in the Corps combined. He was a legend.”

Breitbart News Names Executives Who Will Run Company in Wake of Founder’s Death

Breitbart News Network announced Monday the group of executives who will run the company in the absence of founder Andrew Breitbart, who died unexpectedly this month at age 43.

Laurence Solov, one of Breitbart’s closest friends and the company’s legal counsel has been elevated to president and CEO, positions that Breitbart had held. Solov, a Stanford University and UCLA Law School alumna, has served on the company’s board of directors since its inception.

“Our goal in 2012 is to continue Andrew’s project, ‘The Vetting,’ which examines the president, his rivals and the mainstream media,” Pollak said. “We will continue to drive the national debate by promoting the ‘citizen journalism’ that was Andrew’s unique vision and his enduring legacy to American media.”

Stephen Bannon, the filmmaker responsible for the pro-Sarah Palin movie The Undefeated, has been named executive chairman. Bannon, a former naval officer with masters degrees from Georgetown University and Harvard Business School, was a mergers and acquisitions investment banker at Goldman Sachs and has also been a Breitbart News board member since its founding.

Ben Shapiro was named editor at large. Shapiro, a graduate of UCLA and Harvard Law School, was once the nation’s youngest syndicated columnist. He’s the author of Primetime Propaganda, a book that tries to make the case that liberal political agendas are inserted into TV shows.

If I were the devil, I would gain control of the most powerful nation in the world; I would delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man’s effort, instead of God‘s blessings;

I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the other way around; I would dupe entire states into relying on gambling for their state revenue; I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leadership;

I would make it legal to kill unborn babies; I would make it socially acceptable to take one’s own life, and invent machines to make it convenient; I would cheapen human life as much as possible so that the life of animals is valued more than human beings; I would take God out of the schools, where even the mention of His name was grounds for a lawsuit;

I would come up with drugs that sedate the mind and target the young, and I would get sports heroes to advertise them; I would get control of the media, so that every night I could pollute the mind of every family member with my agenda; I would attack the family, the backbone of any nation.

I would make divorce acceptable and easy, even fashionable. If the family crumbles, so does the nation; I would compel people to express their most depraved fantasies on canvas and movie screens, and call it art; I would convince the world that people are born homosexuals, and that their lifestyles should be accepted;

I would convince the people that right and wrong are determined by a few who call themselves authorities and refer to their agenda as politically correct; I would persuade people that the church is irrelevant and out of date, and the Bible is for the naive; I would dull the minds of Christians, and make them believe that prayer is not important, and that faithfulness and obedience are optional; Hmmm… I guess if I were the devil, I’d leave things pretty much the way they are.

Political Dissent in the Land of the Sheeple | Veterans Today

This fact keeps the vast majority in self-induced incarceration. Nearly half of potential voters never cast a ballot. It is reasonable to conclude the tired old cliché that it does not matter to vote because there is no a difference between the parties, is accurate. Nonetheless, dissent is far more profound than being a duped victim to a rigged voting system. Dissent requires total emersion into the entire political process.

Lobbying officials and confrontation with bureaucracies are necessary elements that every citizen has a duty to engage. Yet, the lesson of history is that only the few ever risk being burned by challenging the status quo. Well, that kind of resignation will never defeat a coercive political dynasty bent on expanding an ever-greater diabolical regime.

The Sheeple mentality produces walking zombies. You know the type. They are your neighbors and relatives. They come from ever kind of background or employment. Most just are afraid to get involved. They are the first to wave the flag, but will never attend a government public hearing, much less express their discontent. Their motto, “go along to get along” symbolizes the decay of the nation.

Add in the legions of public employees with their union entitlement extortion demands and you have a formula for a terminable society.

Our natural tendency is to trust authority provides a feeble excuse into the dysfunctional Sheeple DNA. Only the conclusion “Our tendency to trust authority is allowing mentally incompetent people to remain as leaders in government, universities, business, and news reporting” provides the accurate insight.

On Friday, March 16, Obama issued another unconstitutional executive order. The National Defense Resources Preparedness EO allows the government to confiscate your property without due process under the direction of Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security.

Obama Il Duce: Executive order permits government and corporations to steal private property.

Obama’s EO allows the president to “take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology, for national defense requirements” in the event of a “potential threat to the security of the United States.”

Obama’s latest EO demonstrates once again that the executive will continue to violate the Constitution, in particular Article I, Section 1, which states: “All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”

Is it not a rather strange coincidence that the man who blew ACORN out of the water and threatened to expose the mainstream media for its lies would suddenly drop dead of no known cause?

Andrew Breitbart had done what no other conservative had ever done: physically destroy an important bastion of radical-Alinsky activism. FEMA Corps: The Citizens’ Army Begins Its Recruiting

On March 13, 2012, the White House announced an innovative partnership between the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to establish a FEMA-devoted unit of 1,600 service corps members within AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) solely devoted to disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. This partnership builds on the historic collaboration between the two agencies and will enhance the federal government’s disaster capabilities, increase the reliability and diversity of the disaster workforce, promote an ethic of service, expand education and economic opportunity for young people, and achieve significant cost savings for the American taxpayer. When the program is at full operational capability, and in an average disaster year, we expect to see a savings of approximately $60 million in a year.

Every year, millions of Americans suffer the effects of natural and man-made disaster. Disasters can lead to human losses, social problems, economic harm, and environmental damage. Given the prevalence and severity of disasters and other hazards, FEMA is looking for ways to diversify and fortify its existing disaster workforce structure.

Two NBC journalists were handcuffed and threatened by Chicago police after attempting to report on the murder of a 6-year-old girl yesterday, NBC Chicago reports.

Another NBC journalist was also detained by police outside Mt. Sinai Hospital, where the girl had been taken following a fatal shooting during city wide violence over the weekend.

Police were called to the hospital shortly after reporters arrived on the scene. The journalists said they has already moved away from a public sidewalk and across the street at the request of the police.

One police officer was then caught on camera telling other members of the media “Your First Amendment right can be terminated if you’re creating a scene or whatever. Your First Amendment right has got limitations.”

When the reporters asked for clarification on how they were creating a scene, the officer replied, “Your presence is creating a scene.”

“This is what we do for a living!” one reporter replied, before another added“You’ve got a lawsuit coming.”

“I don’t care about no damn lawsuit!” the officer fired back. “F*ck a lawsuit. Just ’cause you sue doesn’t mean you’re going to win.”

Photographer Donte Williams and WGN Reporter Dan Ponce were then handcuffed and briefly detained by the officer, who threatened them with trespassing charges.

Entitled “National Defense Resources Preparedness,” Obama signed the executive order late Friday afternoon. Such timing is normally a deliberate ploy to prevent a controversial issue from being picked up by the news cycle. Recall that Obama signed the highly contentious National Defense Authorization Act on New Year’s Eve.

Under section 201, the EO allows the federal government to take control of;

Sec. 201. Priorities and Allocations Authorities. (a) The authority of the President conferred by section 101 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071, to require acceptance and priority performance of contracts or orders (other than contracts of employment) to promote the national defense over performance of any other contracts or orders, and to allocate materials, services, and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense, is delegated to the following agency heads:

(1) the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer;

(2) the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy;

(3) the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources;

The term “Perfumed Prince” caught my eye on the Net in relation to  to David Petreaus the present CIA Director.

Previously, I had only seen “Perfumed Princes” used by the late retired Col David Hackworth, USA, a decorated hero of several wars, and a prolific writer.

In fact,over the years, I have posted several or more of Col Hack’s writings to my own GunnyG’s sites, forums, and blogs.

I will attempt to find some of his old articles, and others, for posting here.

Lincoln famously (infamously) suspended habeas corpus and the rights to an impartial trial as protected by the Sixth Amendment.

Then, during World War I, President Woodrow Wilson, frustrated with Congress’s reluctance to grant him a full panoply of power over natural resources, invoked the powers given him under an executive order to assume absolute and unilateral authority over the same range of resources as are included in President Obama’s latest fiat.

As any student of history can testify, when government begins to interfere with the free flow of goods and commodities (especially life-giving resources such as food and water), then it may manipulate the availability of these items, as well as the prices thereof. Typically, such fluctuations result in civil disturbances and a demand for greater security from those unwilling to abide by the new “laws.” And, in exchange for greater security, those clamoring for it are often willing to give up their fundamental freedoms.

President Obama signed an Executive Order for “National Defense” yesterday that claims executive authority to seize all US resources and persons, including during peacetime, for self-declared “national defense.”

The EO claims power to place any American into military or “allocated” labor use(analysis here and here).

“American exceptionalism” is the belief that a 200+ year-old parchment in the National Archives has magical powers to somehow guarantee limited government from 1% tyranny, despite the specific and clear warnings of the US Founders, despite world history of repeated oligarchic/1% tyranny claiming to be for the “good of the people,” and despite US history’s descent into vicious psychopathy (short version here: US war history in 2 minutes) hidden in plain view with paper-thin corporate media propaganda.

He Was A Carrier Pilot on The Saratoga

Fallon was a young US Naval Officer serving aboard the US Aircraft Carrier Saratoga in June, 1967, when Israel launched a surprise war against its Arab neighbors. He saw the valiant F-4 Phantom pilots rocket off the Saratoga to save the crew of the USS Liberty, only to return 15 minutes later. These days the Dems love intervening in what they call “humanitarian crises”, which is usually code for intervening on one side of a civil war where both sides are dubious. They don’t tend to intervene in genuinely one-sided conflicts. Sudan and Rwanda never saw bombers overhead. Actual genocide doesn’t interest them except when bemoaning the general fallen state of man without international law. Fake genocide, whether it’s in Yugoslavia or Libya draws them like flies to a D.C. banquet in summer.

These wars are usually billed as “interventions” to stop the killing. And that part doesn’t work too well. There’s still killing going on in Yugoslavia, it just doesn’t make the evening news. Libya has more killing than ever now that we liberated it. We can probably count on the Syrians for the same. But while the killing doesn’t stop, that was never really the point. If the Dems wanted to save lives, there would have jets over Sudan and peacekeeping forces gunning down Janjaweed rape squads like mad dogs.

Did you know that the federal government claims that it can take away your constitutional rights any time that it wants to? Over the past several decades, there have been an endless parade of laws and executive orders that have been slowly and methodically carving up our rights under the U.S. Constitution. Most Americans are not even aware of the “creeping totalitarianism” that is happening.

Most Americans just trust the “authorities” when they tell us that certain things “must be done” in order to keep us all safe. But even if we gave up all of our privacy, even if we gave up all of our liberties and our freedoms, and even if we gave the government all of our stuff they still would not be able to keep us safe.

It is inevitable that evil people are going to do evil things, and if you are counting on the Obama administration to keep you safe then you are being delusional. Obama is not going to save us from anything. But Obama will gladly take away our rights and our freedoms if the American people allow him to. The Obama administration seems to have an endless lust for more power. Sadly, if we do give away our rights it will have some very serious consequences. If we freely give away all of the rights that we have been given under the U.S. Constitution it will be incredibly difficult to ever get them back. Giving up liberty for security never works, and if we want to be worthy of being called Americans then we need to start standing up for the republic that our forefathers worked so hard to build.
