Imperialism and empire

On the cover of Puck published on April 6, 1901, in the wake of gainful victory in the Spanish–American War, Columbia – the National personification of the U.S. – preens herself with an Easter bonnet in the form of a warship bearing the words “World Power” and the word “Expansion” on the smoke coming out of its stack.
Thomas Jefferson, in the 1780s, awaited the fall of the Spanish empire until “our population can be sufficiently advanced to gain it from them piece by piece.”[5][6] In turn, historian Sidney Lens notes that “the urge for expansion – at the expense of other peoples – goes back to the beginnings of the United States itself.”[3]
Prison Planet.com » Voting for a Third Party Candidate Is NOT a Wasted Vote
…..How do we drive large-scale change during moments of crisis? How do we use this election to do so? Well, voting third party or even just honestly portraying Obama’s policy architecture is a good way to identify to ourselves and each other who actually has the integrity to not cave to bullying….
We need to put ourselves into the position to be able to run the government.
After all, if a political revolution came tomorrow, could those who believe in social justice and climate change actually govern?

[If we had had more courage, we could have] reorganized our politics. Instead the oligarchs took control, because we weren’t willing to face them down when we needed to show courage. So now we have the worst of all worlds, an inevitably worse crisis and an even more authoritarian structure of governance.

Isaiah 9:10 redux in Sandy aftermath
–New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo
WASHINGTON – For those who have read the No. 1 bestselling Christian book of 2012 or viewed the No. 1 faith movie of the year, the words of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy’s devastation had special meaning.
English: Andrew Cuomo, 11th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and 64th New York State Attorney General as a candidate for Governor of New York, outside of City Hall, little American flags on his tie. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
It was a message all-too-familiar from U.S., state and city leaders in the wake of the 9/11 attack: “We will rebuild. We will come back stronger.”
The words mimicked – sometimes with precision – those of ancient Israel in Isaiah 9:10: “The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycamores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.”
And that’s the pattern that has been revealed in Jonathan Cahn’s bestseller “The Harbinger” and a movie based on the same message called “The Isaiah 9:10 Judgment.”
It continued in the words of some officials in the wake of Sandy’s flooding of New York and New Jersey – including by the governor of New York speaking on network television from Ground Zero.
“What makes it worse is this is already the reconstruction site, right?” Cuomo told Brian Williams on “NBC Nightly News.” “This is one of the largest reconstructions that the country is doing at this time … [In] downtown Manhattan, we had the Hudson River came over the banks and was pouring in to the Ground Zero site … and this was all filled with water. … It’s a new reality for us and I think it’s one we’re going to have to deal with. Now, on this site.
Prison Planet.com » New Jersey Contracted RFID Evacuee Tracking Tech Just Days Before Sandy Formed ~ (“Hurricane Sandy formed just four days later, October 22, making for notable timing as New England hasn’t been hard hit by a hurricane since 1938. Who could have seen the devastation to New York, New Jersey and other parts of the East Coast coming when that area hadn’t been hit by a major hurricane for some 70 years?”) ??????
Presciently, the State of New Jersey announced a 5-year contract for RFID tracking technology used to assist in evacuation by identifying and monitoring the location of evacuees and emergency assets during hurricanes or other disasters just four days before Hurricane Sandy began to form.
A press release was published October 18, 2012 announcing that Radiant RFID, based in Austin, Texas, would provide the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (OHSP) with the RFID technology it has already used during disasters in Texas and other locales, as during 2008′s Hurricane Gustav. From the press release:
Radiant RFID will provide the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (OHSP) with an RFID-based managed evacuation solution that tracks evacuees, pets, emergency transport vehicles and commodities deployed at state shelters in preparation for and in the event of a hurricane, natural disaster or other incident to assist in reunification of families.
Press TV: US, West Desperate for “Decency” | Veterans Today

By Gordon Duff and Press TV

“The real subject here is “decency.” Every philosophy, every major religion, every international organization feels they serve the needs of decency. The United Nations protects the interests of the wealthy and powerful, terrorist groups extract revenge for abuses against the poor and downtrodden, drone attacks eliminate “anti-social” elements, killing two militants out of every hundred civilians that die.”

During the US presidential debates, both candidates talked about the suffering of the Syrian people and how we were going to supply weapons to make things better, Obama with “small arms” and Romney promising “heavy weapons,” perhaps turning a hundred B-52 8 engine bombers over to the rebels or giving them a few aircraft carriers or nuclear submarines.

Syria, we were told, had to have a new government though no international authority has approved such a move and no nation, under international law, can impose its will on another without itself becoming an aggressor nation, a war criminal in a very real sense.
