Despite the sequester, the Department of Homeland Security has just completed a hiring blitz of attorneys to oversee and manage immigration litigation. Almost all of these new civil service attorney hires hail from an activist pro-amnesty and pro-asylum background. Sources within the Department of Homeland Security report that the process for hiring these new career civil service lawyers was unconventional and was conducted by an Obama political appointee within DHS.
The new attorneys have activist backgrounds with a variety of pro-amnesty groups such as the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), the Advancement Project, and open borders groups funded by the Tides Foundation.

NYPD cracks down on long guns that hold more than five rounds

he New York City Police Department is taking aim at owners of shotguns and rifles capable of holding more than five rounds, demanding such guns be surrendered, altered or taken out of the city.
The demand came in the form of some 500 letters mailed out to owners of registered long guns that are in violation of a 2010 city ordinance. The first option for the letter\’s recipient is to, \”Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter.\”
New York has the strictest gun laws in the country, and the city has even tighter restrictions. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, co-founder of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has made it a priority of his to pull illegal handguns off the streets and directly links these guns to violent crimes. But critics say the real problem is illegal handguns in the hands of criminals, not long guns owned by law-abiding citizens.
\”We think it\’s an abuse of power by the NYPD,\” said Tom King, the president of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association.
Though these notices were not sent out as a direct result of the SAFE Act, New York State Assemblyman James Tedisco said the new law may embolden city police forces to send out similar letters.

In case you missed it, John Boehner has hired Rebecca Tallent. Tallent worked for the left-of-center “Bipartisan Policy Center,” and is a serious amnesty advocate. She helped John McCain and Ted Kennedy during the Bush era on that disastrous plan.
Here’s what is going to happen.
Boehner will wait until 2014, after qualifying for all the serious challenges to incumbents is over. Then he’ll get all these Republicans talking out of both sides of their mouths and the Democrats together for a bipartisan immigration reform push. The threat of primary challenges well passed, they’ll get their amnesty deal done.
The only way conservatives can stop this from happening now is to line up primary challenges early. In Texas, the period to challenge ends very shortly. Same goes for other states. If conservatives do not find credible, quality challengers ASAP, we’ll see amnesty steam roll through once the threat of the primaries is passed.
The Republicans are so convinced you will turn out and vote for them in 2014 to spite Obama, they are perfectly happy to screw you over in this fight knowing how cheap a date the conservative movement has become.

Marxist Obama dives for cover under pope’s skirts
Ugh! The falling-fast-in-popularity-polls Barack Hussein Obama is diving for cover under the cassock of Pope Francis, and it’s going to require a take-no-prisoners Catholic League president like Bill Donohue to drag him back out.
Obama’s M.O. for hiding under Francis skirts? ‘The Artful Dodger of the White House’ counts on people thinking that If the pope can be a Marxist, then the Marxist Fundamental Transformation of America can’t be all bad.

In September, White House Spokesmodel Jay Carney was asked about the mounting stories of companies cutting employees and hours to get under the arbitrary magic numbers created for Obamacare’s many mandates. In typical progressive fashion, Carney dismissed reality and substituted his own. “There’s a difference between anecdotes and data,” he said.
He’s right, of course. And he should know … his boss has governed by anecdote, not data, not facts, since he took office.
Putting Obamacare aside for the moment, the most egregious example in the history of the United States of the bluster of anecdotes over reality came in the president’s first year.

President Obama acknowledged on Thursday that he lived with his Kenyan uncle for a brief period in the 1980s while preparing to attend Harvard Law School, contradicting a statement more than a year ago that the White House had no record of the two ever meeting.
Their relationship came into question on Tuesday at the deportation hearing of his uncle, Onyango Obama, in Boston immigration court. His uncle had lived in the United States illegally since the 1970s and revealed in testimony for the first time that his famous nephew had stayed at his Cambridge apartment for about three weeks. At the time, Onyango Obama was here illegally and fighting deportation.

Source: Pope Francis Likely to Offer \’Clarification\’ to Distance Himself from \’Liberation Theology\’
Breitbart – Big Peace ^ | December 5, 2013 | Michael Patrick Leahy

A source familiar with the inner workings of the Vatican told Breitbart News on Monday that Pope Francis is likely to offer a \”clarification\” of his comments on economics contained in his apostolic exhortation released on November 24, Evangelii Guadium (in English, \”The Joy of the Gospel\”). Though the timing of such a \”clarification\” is uncertain, it is likely to come in the form of a speech to a group rather than in a formal papal document.
The source told Breitbart News that key figures at the Vatican are already discussing the problems caused by the document\’s confused and inconsistent forays into economic policy. As Breitbart News has reported, the use of language consistent with Latin American \”liberation theology\” in that document has had a significant impact on the political dialogue in the United States over the past ten days.
The left has grabbed several passages from the document and described them as a rejection of free market economics and an endorsement of the statist redistributive policies of the Obama administration. Some on the left have used the Pope\’s word as a justification for the Occupy Wall Street movement.
Among prominent conservatives, Rush Limbaugh has criticized the Pope for appearing to embrace \”liberation theology.\” Many conservatives are wondering why the pope decided to venture beyond the realm of the Gospel into the arena of political and economic theory in the first place.
Defenders of the Pope have pointed out that economics, though it received almost all of the press coverage, was a small part of the document, most of which focused on a new call to evangelization. They portray him not as a \”liberation theologist,\” but a rather as more of a \”right wing Peronist\” from Argentina

Pope Francis is the Catholic Church’s Obama – God help us

My fellow Catholics should be suspicious when bastions of anti-Catholicism in the left-wing media are in love with him.
Much is being made of his ‘compassion’ and ‘humility,’ but kissing babies and hugging the sick is nothing new. Every pope in recent memory has done the same, yet only now are the media paying attention. But Francis is beating a retreat for the Catholic Church, and making sure its controversial doctrines are whispered, not yelled – no wonder the New York Times is in love….

Strong signs point to House Speaker John Boehner leading an amnesty cave-in that delivers millions of new Democratic votes. Republicans should man up and put border security front and center.
The two words \”Becky Tallent\” resonate with conservatives in Congress the way \”Howard Baker\” did when Ronald Reagan welcomed the liberal Republican senator as chief of staff during Iran-Contra, bringing most of the Reagan agenda to a screeching halt; or the way the words \”Susan Kennedy\” did a decade ago when newly elected California Gov. “This world is hopeless,” my friend said conclusively, in spiritual summary of what we’d discussed.
I recognized his attitude as a core feature of orthodox Christian doctrine, which assesses a fallen world, full of sin, and resignedly accepts that fallen man is simply incapable of improving conditions. Incapable, that is, beyond temporary intervals of marginal revival and renewal, however worthwhile and glorious.

Rush Limbaugh Doesn\’t Get Pope Francis
Catholic Answers ^ | December 4, 2013 | Trent Horn

In a recent segment on his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh talked about the pope’s new apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium. I don’t have the space to address everything Limbaugh said, but what struck me was his mischaracterization of Pope Francis\’s comments about economics.
The fundamental problem was that Limbaugh chose to quote not what Pope Francis wrote but a Washington Post article on the exhortation, which stated:
Pope Francis attacked unfettered capitalism as \”a new tyranny\” and beseeched global leaders to fight poverty and growing inequality, in a document on Tuesday setting out a platform for his papacy and calling for a renewal of the Catholic Church. . . . In it, Francis went further than previous comments criticizing the global economic system, attacking the \”idolatry of money.\”
Limbaugh responded by saying, “This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope. Unfettered capitalism? That doesn\’t exist anywhere. \’Unfettered capitalism\’ is a liberal socialist phrase to describe the United States.”
Granted, it takes hours to read this massive document but, for someone whose words are heard by millions of people, before calling the pope a \”Marxist\” a simple use of the control+F function would have been warranted. If Limbaugh had done that, he would have found that the phrase “unfettered capitalism” does not appear in Evangelii Gaudium.
Neither is the global economy the main theme of this exhortation; rather, it\’s only one area where Pope Francis is………

Ancient Humans Had Sex With A Mystery Species
Dec. 4, 2013, 3:33 PM
A new, improved sequencing of ancient human relative genomes reveals that Homo sapiens didn\’t only have sex with Neanderthals and a little-understood line of humans called Denisovans. A fourth, mystery lineage of humans was in the mix, too.
As reported by the news arm of the journal Nature, new genetic evidence suggests that several hominids — human relatives closer than humans\’ current living cousin, the chimpanzee — interbred more than 30,000 years ago. This group of kissing cousins included an unknown human ancestor not yet revealed by the ancient DNA record.
\”It\’s implied it could be something like Homo erectus or similar,\” said Carles Lalueza-Fox, a paleogenomics researcher at Pompeu Fabra University in Spain, who was not involved in the research, but who was present at a talk on the findings given by lead author David Reich of Harvard Medical School at a meeting on ancient DNA sponsored by the Royal Society in London on Nov. 18. Homo erectus is an extinct species of human that originated in Africa and spread into Asia. [See Images of Our Closest Human Ancestor]
Ancient human lineages
Neanderthals are an extinct group of humans who lived between about 30,000 and 130,000 years ago. Despite their reputation as bone-headed dummies, Neanderthals were likely as advanced as modern humans in areas such as tool-making, though they were probably less socially adept.
Denisovans are a far more mysterious group. These early humans lived in Siberia and probably split off from the branch of the human family tree that would eventually give rise to Neanderthals about 300,000 years ago. Little is known about how Denisovans lived and what they looked like.

Are We Sick of Him Yet? (Repost of Article)

We were sitting in a sunroom, swapping stories, news and updates when the question was asked, \”Why did they get divorced?\”
We leaned forward in anticipation of a standard response; \”he was having an affair,\” or \”she was having an affair,\” a possible \”they\’ve grown apart,\” or a more nebulous \”it just wasn\’t working anymore.\” Instead the answer was more visceral and direct.
\”She was sick of him.\”
I felt as though I had been punched in my stomach.
\”Sick of him?\” a passing feeling maybe, a temporary state of mind, but a reason to sever a marriage union?
The word \”sick\” means afflicted with disease or bad health. He was making her health bad? Possibly. Fatigue and chronic stress are detrimental to health and well-being.
The word \”sick\” means afflicted with disease or bad health. He was making her health bad? Possibly. Fatigue and chronic stress are detrimental to health and well-being.
President Barack Obama, the man who campaigned on Hope and Change and who could once do no wrong, has fallen in approval rating and in stature in recent weeks. He has fallen furthest among 18- to 29-year-olds — down 7 points within the last week to 42 percent.
More telling than his 40 percent overall approval rating (Gallup), is his disapproval rating, which has reached 53 percent. His approval rating had dipped to 39 percent in the summer of 2011, but the 53 percent disapproval rating marks a new high. Simply put: More people than ever before disapprove of the job that Obama is doing.
Magazine covers no longer glorify Obama, but instead call into question his effectiveness as president. Newsweek\’s \”Hit the Road Barack: Why We Need a New President,\” and The Economist\’s \”The Man Who Could Walk on Water,\” (with a picture of Obama in the ocean with water up to his shoulders as if he is going under), reflect a president who is rapidly losing stature. Time\’s \”Obama\’s Iran Gamble\” cover depicts Obama walking off, shoulders hunched, as if he had been beaten.
The rollout of his health plan has created strained perceptions of the government\’s ability to get things done and lowered Obama\’s approval ratings and believability scores. The White House has moved recently from mixed labeling between Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act to a single label of the Affordable Care Act. In response to this change, Gallup tested four different labels by reading the same basic question \”to four randomly selected groups of the Gallup Daily tracking sample each night between Nov. 4-17 — but with four different descriptions of the law. A total of 1,725 to 1,885 respondents received each version of the question.\” The descriptions included the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, both the Affordable Care Act and Obamacare, and the use of no specific name for the health care law. The results showed that, instead of creating a halo effect, the use of \”Obama,\” i.e., the Obamacare label, resulted in lower support. \”Only mentioning the Affordable Care Act yields the highest support (45 percent), while only mentioning Obamacare yields the lowest support (38 percent). Support for the law when using the other labels\” (either both or neither) \”falls in between, at 41 percent.\”
Can\’t feel good when the use of your name results in fewer people supporting your signature legislation.
This change did not come overnight. It occurred as promises were made (you can keep your health care, it will be as easy as buying a TV from Amazon), and those same promises were broken. It\’s taken a long time for the bright and shiny facade to rub away and for us to be left a bit darker and gloomier.
What can\’t be determined is if Obama can get back that loving feeling or if it\’s just that finally we\’re sick of him. Maybe we need a divorce.

As the flaws inherent in Obamacare become increasingly difficult for even the most news-averse Americans to ignore, President Obama is embarking on a probably futile crusade to sell the public on his signature legislative monstrosity.
Obama seems destined to get an even less enthusiastic reception from the public than George W. Bush received…………….

Oprah, the self-anointed Queen of Everything Black, is back. This time we get a two-fer: She not only displays her personal pathologies, she also re-establishes her toxic-tribal bona fides among black people.
It’s a wicked mix: Damaging to herself and others.
During a recent BBC interview, Oprah pronounced that anyone who did not like President Obama was a racist. She also said “old” whites will have to die to end racism. To cap this pre-adolescent interview-rant, she adds that blacks are abused and disrespected the world over…………………….
If these comments were just Oprah working through her “issues” again in a public place, then her remarks could
The SR-71 Spy Plane Was So Fast, It Outran Every Missile Fired at It

Until Lockheed Martin finally builds the SR-72 Mach-6 spy plane it announced in November, the iconic SR-71 Blackbird, capable of flying three times the speed of sound, remains the fastest warplane ever flown operationally.
So fast that no missiles fired at it had a chance of hitting.
When the U-2 spy plane was built in the 1950s, its designer Clarence “Kelly” Johnson already knew that it would be vulnerable to enemy defenses.

Anti-Zionism, as Jonathan noted, is acquiring “an undeserved veneer of respectability in Barack Obama’s Washington”: The latest anti-Zionist screed to hit the bookstores will receive a prominent platform at an event organized by the New America Foundation, a prestigious Washington think tank headed by a former senior Obama administration official. But frankly, I don’t see why anyone should be surprised. After all, anti-Zionism is merely an offshoot of a much older evil, anti-Semitism. And since the original has become perfectly respectable in Barack Obama’s Washington over the last month, why be surprised that the offshoot is as well?
Exhibit A occurred at the Geneva talks with Iran earlier this month, when an unnamed senior U.S. official refused to condemn the latest rant by Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. Though many commentators found this silence disturbing mainly because Khamenei termed Israel a “rabid dog,” I was even more disturbed by the American representative’s tolerance of the part of the diatribe aimed at France, in which Khamenei used one of the oldest anti-Semitic tropes in the book.
Since France had singlehandedly thwarted what it termed a “sucker’s deal” in the previous round of talks with Iran, forcing its negotiating partners to make some significant (though still insufficient) improvements, it was understandably in Khamenei’s bad graces. But rather than admit that France could possibly have had its own concerns about Tehran, he accused it of simply “kneeling before the Israeli regime.” Paris was furious and condemned the remarks, but neither the senior U.S. official nor a spokesman for EU foreign-policy czar Catherine Ashton would do the same. The best America’s official representative could do was mutter that yes, such rhetoric is “uncomfortable,” but Americans also “say difficult things about Iran and Iranians” (is it any wonder he or she was too embarrassed to be named?).
The claim that Jews control the world–or in this case, France’s foreign policy–is classic anti-Semitism; this alone makes it worthy of condemnation. But the official’s silence was particularly outrageous because the target of this slur was America’s negotiating partner in the talks: France’s representative was on the same side of the table as the U.S. official and Ashton, with Khamenei’s representatives on the opposite side. If American officials aren’t willing to condemn anti-Semitic slurs hurled at their own negotiating partner by their mutual opponent while the talks are taking place, when would they be willing to do so?
Answer: Never, as proven by Exhibit B–the administration’s silence in the face of an anti-Semitic slur against some even closer allies that same week. I’m referring, of course, to New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman’s outrageous assertion that lawmakers are siding with Israel against Obama on Iran not “from any careful consideration of the facts,” but “from a growing tendency by many American lawmakers to do whatever the Israel lobby asks them to do in order to garner Jewish votes and campaign donations.”
Not only is this another classic example of the anti-Semitic “Jews control the world” trope, but many of the lawmakers whom Friedman accused of blindly obeying Jewish dictates rather than thinking for themselves are President Obama’s fellow Democrats, who have loyally shepherded his domestic agenda through Congress. Yet even so, the administration couldn’t be bothered to utter a word in their defense.
When an administration doesn’t see fit to condemn anti-Semitic slurs even against its closest allies–its negotiating partner abroad and congressional Democrats at home–you know anti-Semitism has attained the height of respectability. My only question is when all the American Jews who voted for this administration are going to wake up and start objecting.
Obama to feds: Bulk up on green power [20% by 2020 - triples use]

President Obama on Thursday will order the federal government to use renewables for 20 percent of its electricity needs by 2020.
The Associated Press first reported the news and obtained a copy of the executive order to be released Thursday.
The White House confirmed the report to The Hill.
It will nearly triple the use of the federal government\’s renewable sources and apply to all federal agencies, civilian and military.
\”The federal government occupies nearly 500,000 buildings, operates 600,000 vehicles and purchases more than $500 billion per year in goods and services,\” the AP reported late Wednesday.
\”The government currently has a goal of using 7.5 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, but Obama said recent increases in renewable energy supplies make the new 20 percent goal achievable by 2020,\” the news service added.
Why ObamaCare could burn liberalism to the ground

The real danger for liberals with ObamaCare is not just that they passed a law that isn’t working as advertised. The truth is they do that all the time. The real danger is that they passed a law whose dysfunction directly touches the lives of so many Americans – meaning that in this case, the failures of big-government liberalism are plainly seen and known to everyone.
Big government functions in horrendous fashion with stunning regularity. The IRS abuses the rights of citizens. The State Department makes foolish deals with nasty regimes. Congress pisses away billions on subsidies that drive up food costs. Federal regulations add to the cost of gasoline while making it difficult to exploit natural resources on our own shores. The tax code wreaks havoc on the economy.
The difference is that, while you can read about all these problems if you’re interested, and you definitely feel the effects of most or all of them in one way or another, you don’t necessarily deal directly with the federal government on any of this. If the tax code depresses job growth, and you have trouble finding a job as a result, you know you’re having a rough time but you might not make the connection directly. If the store down the street is raising its prices because taxes and regualtions are driving up its costs, you know you’re paying more but you don’t necessarily know why.
Not so with ObamaCare. If you got a cancellation notice from your health insurance company, you know exactly why. If you went on HealthCare.gov and by some miracle managed to get through to look at the plans that are available – and were shocked by the premiums, you know exactly how that happened.

The Obama administration’s cheerleading for the Common Core State Standards Initiative is designed to calm critics and rally supporters for the ambitious overhaul of the nation’s elementary and secondary school curriculums.
I honestly haven't followed the controversy over the proposed Common Core national educational standards all that closely (1), though I'm somewhat familiar with the questions of lowered standards, loss of local control, and the constitutional issue over a national curriculum. But I do not claim to be an expert.
If, however, this is representative of how American History…
