While there’s no evidence yet to suggest the men had anything to do with the plane’s disappearance, their presence on the flight has set off an international investigation and renewed discussion about screening of global travelers.
Here’s what we know about the men:
We don’t know their nationalities, but we know something about what they looked like. Malaysia’s civil aviation chief, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, revealed Monday that authorities have reviewed security footage of the men passing through Kuala Lumpur’s airport, and they are not “Asian looking men.” At least one of them appeared to be black, Rahman said.
Their tickets were apparently purchased together. The tickets were bought from China Southern Airlines in Thailand’s baht currency at identical prices, according to China’s official e-ticket verification system Travelsky. The ticket numbers are contiguous, indicating they were issued together. Both were for travel from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam via Beijing. The Italian passport’s ticket continued on to Copenhagen, Denmark. The Austrian passport’s ticket ended in Frankfurt, Germany. On Monday, Thai police said the tickets had been purchased by an Iranian man for two friends he said wanted to go home to Europe.
They were traveling on passports stolen in 2012 and 2013 in Thailand, according to Interpol. The passports were issued by Austria and Italy. Authorities don’t know yet if the men were involved in the passports’ theft or how they came to possess them.

King of Blah, Blah, Blah Blabbing Away in Margaritaville
Don’t know whether Malia and Sasha Obama are learning at their private school, but through their parents, are they learning that life is one never-ending holiday with the bill footed by the public purse?
Given that sobering report, consider that everything in America, from food to fuel, is subsidized in one way or another. Those subsidies are being paid with ever-increasing debt. It is inevitable that at some point the world’s reserve currency, the US dollar, will be wiped out. The trigger for such an event is irrelevant. What is relevant, is how average Americans will be affected when that day comes.
In recent months working Americans have seen their health care costs triple. But this is just the beginning. When America’s debt problems come to a head the subsidies will be removed, and that will lead to cost of living increases that will leave those who never saw it coming in a state of confusion and bewilderment with no way out.

If a Well-Regulated Militia is Necessary to the Security of a Free State, are we Insecure? Or Unfree?

No militia means more intrusive law enforcement
Glenn Harlan Reynolds writes: The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
For a while, some argued that the so-called “prefatory clause” — “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State” — somehow limited the “right of the people” to something having to do with a militia. In its recent opinions of District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago, the Supreme Court has made clear that the Second Amendment does recognize a right of individuals to own guns, and that that right is in no way dependent upon membership in a militia. That seems to me to be entirely correct.

As far as retail success stories go, few can compete with Costco’s run in recent years. In surveys, customers routinely weigh in on how much they love the Costco shopping experience, and the company’s unique business model is celebrated in TV documentaries and glowing magazine profiles alike.
But the fact that in early March Costco reported lower-than-expected earnings and its stock price has slumped now has some wondering if the company can stay on its hot growth streak going forward. In particular, concern is being raised that Costco’s membership model and its bulk-goods products don’t appeal to the nation’s young consumers—and that the Costco experience might not be a good match for the millennial generation even after they grow older and have families.
It’s understandable that Costco’s customer base skews older. A car is all but a necessity for the typical “stock up” visit to Costco, and compared to older generations, millennials tend to not own cars and don’t seem to want to own cars. Most Costco stores are in suburban locations, while millennials tend to prefer urban living, and even if they are among the relatively few of their peers who could afford to buy a home, home ownership is less important to them than it was to their parents and grandparents as young adults. So … if you don’t have a car, and you don’t have the money or interest to stock up on two years’ worth of paper towels or mustard, and you wouldn’t have the space in your apartment to store this kind of stuff even if you wanted to, then there’s not much sense in shopping at Costco.
Breaking: Conn. Police Officers Refuse to Confiscate: Will Not “Be Party to the Oppression of the People”
With so many news stories circulating about brutality and injustice at the hands of the militarized police state, it’s often difficult to discern between the good cops and the bad cops.
In Connecticut, where lawmakers recently passed legislation that requires the confiscation of firearms from citizens of the State, the legislature assumed that police officers would simply follow the letter of the law, even if that law is an affront to the founding principles of the United States and has not yet been reviewed by the Supreme Court.

The difference was Genghis Khan, the warlord who united the tribes and launched them on their wave of unstoppable conquest. But the Mongol Empire wasn’t solely the product of Genghis’s will. As a fascinating new study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS) demonstrates, the rise of the Mongols may have owed just as much to beneficial changes in the climate that made the grasslands of the Mongol steppes green and verdant, fueling the horses that were the backbone of the empire’s military. Climate change helped make the Mongol Empire possible.
The PNAS study came from research done by the tree-ring scientists Neil Pederson at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Amy Hessl at West Virginia University. On a research trip to Mongolia in 2010, Pederson, Hessl and their colleagues discovered a stand of stunted Siberian pine trees in the Khangai Mountains. The trees—some of which were still alive—were ancient, some more than 1,100 years old. Old trees provide a living history book of the climate. During warm, wet years, the trees grow more, and the rings inside the trunk that mark those years are wider. The opposite happens during dry years, when the rings would be narrow.
Counting back to the late 1100s, just before the rise of Genghis Khan, the tree-ring data indicated that the Mongol steppes had been in the grip of an intense drought, one that could have helped drive the years of division among the Mongol tribes as they competed for scarce resources. But the tree-rings showed that the years between 1211 and 1225—a period of time that coincided with the meteoric rise of Genghis Khan, who died in 1227—were marked by unusually heavy rainfall and mild temperatures. It didn’t turn Mongolia’s harsh steppes into Maui, but the warmer climate would have stimulated the growth of the grasslands that fed the Mongols’ vital herds of horses and livestock. Given that each Mongol warrior had five or more horses, the energy represented by that additional grass would have helped fuel their astounding rate of expansion.

It has been reported that radar showed the plane changing direction, apparently turning around, just before it vanished. That indicates to me that the plane was under control . . . but by who might be the key question. With two so far unidentified passengers using stolen passports, those two could have taken over the plane, and then became pilot and copilot. If they know enough about the tracking systems, and how to disable them, then perhaps that is what has happened. Maybe that jet was not just hijacked, but has been stolen and taken to a special location for whatever reasons. If so, then perhaps sooner than later whoever did that might make contact and demand money for return of the jet and passengers. Or maybe they already have a buyer and have a plan to return the passengers or to make the passengers permanently vanish. We still have pirates on the oceans today, so perhaps they have expanded their interests to target air travel.

Liberals Love Racism
Racism has been such a successful political and money-making tool for the left that liberals are willing to invent it where it does not exist, conceive new forms of racism when it is in decline, and to sustain it, even become racists themselves.
In regard to race, there are two inhabitants of Liberal Land: (1) the white liberal ethno-masochist , whose self-hatred manifests itself politically by identifying with groups that he or she deems equally hated as a desperate plea for acceptance and love and (2) the race opportunists, whose ethnocentric positions are simply an element of a political campaign or business plan, where there are votes to be had or money to be made by prolonging an imaginary problem.
