Well, it has been a great ride. Much has been accomplished at The Daily Bell and I, as founder and chief editor, have decided it is time to allow The Daily Bell to stand as is, as a historical testimony describing our current troubled and exciting times.

Content on TheDailyBell.com shall remain available as an educational and research tool. I and all the elves are humbled by what we have been able to contribute during this Internet Era, surely one of humanity’s most significant epochs.

The struggle for freedom, especially today, continues to be both a challenge and a promise. The Austrian-oriented Daily Bell has pioneered insights such as the concept of the Internet Reformation and contributed to the understanding of how globalists use fear-based scarcity promotions to frighten middle classes into accepting international solutions such as the United Nations and the International Monetary Fund.

The Daily Bell helped expose the real agenda of the Soros-funded Occupy Wall Street movement, which apparently remains intent on generating what could be a French Revolution-style bloodbath aimed at the “one percent.” The Daily Bell has also relentlessly exposed the “public banking” promotion aimed at making quasi-private central banks the exclusive province of the state. The idea here is that globalists sponsoring this promotion, including the idea of a “living wage,” remain in charge of monopoly money creation behind the veil of the state. It provides further cover.

Finally, The Daily Bell regularly exposed the hoax of central banking itself, the idea that a group of good, gray men can efficiently fix the value and price of money and produce anything other than serial disasters and increasing ruin.

What Americans Used To Know About the Declaration of Independence by Thomas DiLorenzo

July 4, 2013 2 comments

“During the weeks following the [1860] election, [Northern newspaper] editors of all parties assumed that secession as a constitutional right was not in question . . . . On the contrary, the southern claim to a right of peaceable withdrawal was countenanced out of reverence for the natural law principle of government by consent of the governed.”

~ Howard Cecil Perkins, editor, Northern Editorials on Secession, p. 10

The first several generations of Americans understood that the Declaration of Independence was the ultimate states’ rights document. The citizens of the states would delegate certain powers to a central government in their Constitution, and these powers (mostly for national defense and foreign policy purposes) would hopefully be exercised for the benefit of the citizens of the “free and independent” states, as they are called in the Declaration.

Congressman Clement L. Vallandigham D-Ohio was the original American “whistleblower.

” Serving as a member of Congress from Dayton, Ohio during the War to Prevent Southern Independence, his criticisms of the Lincoln regime earned him the reputation as the leader of the Democratic opposition.

English: Author at CPAC in .

English: Author at CPAC in . (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The Republican Party smeared him and all other opponents as a “copperhead” a.k.a. snake in the grass. On May 5, 1863, sixty-seven heavily-armed soldiers broke into his home in the middle of the night and dragged him off to a military prison. This was done without any due process, as Lincoln had long ago illegally suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus.

He was said to be guilty of “discouraging enlistments” in the army with his criticisms of the Lincoln regime. A military order issued in the state of Ohio declared all such speech to be illegal, and military officers were to have dictatorial powers in deciding what kind of speech would be permitted there.

All of this was of course done at the direction of Abraham Lincoln.Lincoln apparently wanted Northerners to believe that all such critics were spies and traitors, so Congressman Vallandigham was deported to the state of Tennessee and placed in the hands of a Confederate Army commander.

Unless historians or other scholars can refute what Professor John Chandler Griffin has revealed in Abraham Lincoln’s Execution, the history not only of the administration of the 16th President of the U.S. and his death at the hands of John Wilkes Booth will have to be rewritten, but also that of the American Civil War.

English: John Wilkes Booth.

English: John Wilkes Booth. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Griffin, professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina, has revisited what happened in the 1860’s for two basic purposes: first, to demonstrate that members of Lincoln’s cabinet were implicated with the Confederate Secret Service in the murder of Lincoln (which is why Griffin calls it an execution in lieu of an assassination); and, second, to demolish the standard mythology re the character of Lincoln and his motives in instigating the military action that metastasized into all-out civil war.

Rather than “The Great Emancipator,” Lincoln appears in Griffin’s book as “The Great Dictator.” Blocking the South’s secession in order to establish and maintain a centralized government, Griffin writes, was the true motive behind Lincoln’s instigation of civil war, and not the elimination of slavery.

In fact, Griffin documents, Lincoln repeatedly expressed his view of whites as superior to blacks, opposed equal rights for them, wrote to Illinois legislators that “eliminating every black person from American soil would be a glorious consummation,” appropriated taxpayer money to fund his plan to export freed slaves to a variety of countries; and, despite his famous Emancipation Proclamation, engaged in manipulations so that only slaves in the south would be freed and not those in the north. Lincoln’s prejudices also showed up, Griffin points out, in Lincoln’s support of the war on American Indians unwilling to move to reservations, resulting in their systematic extermination.

At the root of the South’s rebellion was the North’s bleeding the southern economy through exorbitant tariffs on goods that had to be purchased from northern industries. Because many influential northerners were adamantly opposed to military action to stop the rebellion, Lincoln waited until Congress was not in session to use the outbreak of hostilities at Fort Sumter to initiate an all-out war, according to Griffin. Lincoln then proceeded to declare martial law, suspended the writ of habeas corpus, ordered the imprisonment without trial of thousands of northern citizens opposed to war, ordered the jailing of newspaper editors and publishers opposing his actions and then had their operations shut down and their buildings burned, and initiated a host of other illegal and unconstitutional acts.

Once war was in full swing, Lincoln enabled well-to-do families to keep their sons out of the conflict by paying $300 per youngster to the government in return for exemption from service. So it was that the Union army’s enlisted ranks consisted mostly of poor whites and blacks willing to fight.

Support for Lincoln from hardline Republicans collapsed, Griffin explains, when it became clear that Lincoln opposed their vision of Union military victory resulting in a centralized government’s using its power to confiscate southerners’ property and enrich northern mercantilists by reducing southerners to vassals of their conquerors. Instead, looking toward a future election with southern as well as northern support, Lincoln laid out a plan for reconstruction of the South with fully restored voting rights. At that point, in the scenario Griffin presents, plans were formulated – especially by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton and Vice President Andrew Johnson – to get rid of Lincoln.

Today is now officially “Loyalty Day”, where all of the tax slaves of the United States can celebrate their obedience to government.

In recent memory Mayday is associated with workers protests and things of that nature, but it is important to remember that people in various culture have been celebrating Mayday for most of recorded history. Far before the middle ages, pagan cultures in Europe would celebrate mayday, and even they drew their traditions from older astrotheological cultures.

This point on our calender now means many different things to many different people, and now you can add another one to the list.

Jim R. Schwiesow — That Horse is Already Dead

THAT HORSE IS DEAD

…..I continue to hear the interminable and irksome braying that the nation will be saved by men from a rapidly approaching collapse and that the Constitution will be restored to the state of being created by the founding fathers.

I am pounded with this wearisome babble every minute of every day and it grates on the nerves like a screech of nails across a blackboard.

People that horse is already dead and has been for a century and a half; the Constitution was spiked through the heart by the uncompromising Hamiltonian enemies of federalism, interred by Abraham Lincoln amid the killing grounds of the civil war, and settled in the grave by the dirt poured upon it by a long succession of dimwitted political centralists. You are now, and always have been, subject to totalitarian control.

THE KILLING OF THE CONSTITUTION

If you do not know James Madison as the father of the U.S. Constitution you should…at the birth of the nation it was his conceptions in regard to an ascendency of personal liberties and a sovereignty of the people that prevailed against all arguments for a monarchy or a totalitarian central government. No one had a greater role in shaping American Constitutional theory and in framing the particulars of representative government than James Madison.

Well, another “Independence” Day has come and gone. Yet, each year that goes by, we have less independence and less freedom to direct and control our own lives and destinies.

Just what happened to the passion for self-determination of the Revolutionaries who seceded from the dictatorial King George’s rule?

…..But the Revolution of 1848 failed. The perpetrators escaped, just ahead of the police. And they went, of course, to the united States. In 1856, the Republican Party ran its first candidate for President. By that time, these Communists from Europe had thoroughly infiltrated this country, especially the North. Many became high ranking officers in the Union Army and top government officials.

Down through the decades, Americans have wondered about Yankee brutality in that war. Lee invaded the North, but that sublime Christian hero forbade any forays against civilians. Military genius Stonewall Jackson stood like a stone wall and routed the Yankees at Manassas, but when Barbara Frietchie insisted on flying the Yankee flag in Frederick, Maryland, rather than the Stars and Bars, that sublime Christian hero commanded, according to John Greenleaf Whittier, “‘Who touches a hair of yon gray head/Dies like a dog! March on!’ he said.”

A National Day of Blogger Silence has been declared in defense of those conservative bloggers targeted by Kimberlin and company’s shameful telephone harassment/threats, ‘SWATting’, and other intimidation techniques favored by today’s vicious, underground Left. Republican senators in fact yesterday asked the DOJ to investigate what appears to be a series of felonies aimed right at the voices of today’s New Media Right.

Eric Erickson of Red State/CNN, Ace of Spades, Stacy McCain, and Ali @ Hot Air have all been the victims of the so-called ‘progressive’ movement’s shameful, criminal techniques… and my fellow bloggers, I ask you to join us in a day of protest TODAY.

…..How does secession fit into a bottom-up strategy of social revolution? More important, how can a secessionist movement escape the Southern Confederacy’s fate of being crushed by a tyrannical and dangerously armed central government?

English: German philosopher of Austrian School...

English: German philosopher of Austrian School of Economics Hans-Hermann Hoppe giving a lecture in Mises University 2008 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

In response to these questions, it is first necessary to remember that neither the original American Revolution nor the American Constitution was the result of the will of the majority of the population.

A third of the American colonists were actually Tories, and another third were occupied with daily routines and did not care either way.

No more than a third of the colonists were actually committed to and supportive of the revolution, yet they carried the day.

And as far as the Constitution is concerned, the overwhelming majority of the American public was opposed to its adoption, and its ratification represented more of a coup d’état by a tiny minority than the general will. All revolutions, whether good or bad, are started by minorities; and the secessionist route toward social revolution, which necessarily involves the breaking-away of a smaller number of people from a larger one, takes explicit cognizance of this important fact.

“The big story in the Republican Party over the last 30 years, and I’m very happy about this,” said Kristol, is the “eclipsing” of the George H.W. That Bush crowd is yesterday, said Kristol. And not only had the “Arabists” like President Bush been shoved aside by the neocons, the “Pat Buchanan/Ron Paul type” of Republican has been purged.

Imagine an 80 MPG car – which could be built right now, easily, with existing technology. (Several current European models are already pretty close to the 80 MPG bar.)

Such a car could cut the average person’s fuel costs by two-thirds – in effect, putting things back the way they were circa 1986, when gasoline still cost about $1 per gallon. It would do a great deal to ease the economic pressure bearing down on the average person. But if tens of millions of Americans were suddenly using two-thirds less fuel, they’d also be paying two-thirds less in motor fuels taxes.

You don’t have to be a conspiracy nut to wonder what effect contemplation of this possibility has had on government policy.

THE BATTLE OF ATHENS(Tennessee) [Would FReepers take up arms in the name of Liberty as they did?]

Tennessee Historical Commission marker in Athens, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. The marker recalls the “Battle of Athens,” which occurred on August 2, 1946, when local officials locked themselves in the old jail (formerly off-camera to the right), allegedly to fix election results. An armed group of World War II veterans and supporters assembled on the hill to the left and exchanged fire with the authorities in the jail. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

[Snip]…There was a group of lesser-known Tennessee Patriots, however, whose efforts to defend Liberty at home in 1946 were no less noble. This group of World War II veterans took up arms to restore Rule of Law in the quaint east Tennessee town of Athens (McMinn County), between Chattanooga and Knoxville. That fight became known as the Battle of Athens…..

ALAN STANG: REPUBLICAN PARTY, RED FROM THE START by Alan Stang « CITIZEN.BLOGGER.1984+ GUNNY.G BLOG.EMAIL

Many patriots these days lament that the Republican Party has “lost its way” and “gone wrong.” It has “diverged” from the fiscally responsible, small government philosophy of Republican heroes like Robert Taft whom Eisenhower’s handlers finagled out of the nomination for President in 1952.

We are told that is why today’s Republican Establishment hates Dr. Ron Paul with such a passion; that they hate him because, like Taft, he is the quintessential Republican. Patriots who say that are mistaken, of course. The reason the Republican Establishment hates Dr. Paul is precisely that he is not a traditional, mainstream Republican, that his platform of freedom is an aberration. The Republican Party didn’t “go wrong,” didn’t “go left.”

It has been wrong from the beginning, from the day it was founded. From the beginning, the Republican Party has worked without deviation for bigger, more imperial government, for higher taxes, for more wars, for more totalitarianism. From the beginning, the Republican Party has been Red.

Debate Is Taboo on the Great Centralizer, Lincoln…

November 12, 2010 Leave a comment

Lies and name-calling are preferred tactics of the Lincoln “scholars” cultistsI found out the hard way that Lincoln scholars read, apologists for ever-increasing political and economic centralization have no interest in debating any point of law, Constitution, or even history when it comes to the deeds of America’s original and greatest of presidential centralizers, the incomparable Abraham Lincoln.

They prefer lies, name-calling, and the hyperbole of smear against anyone who challenges the Lincoln myth.No less than Harold Holzer, the high priest of Lincoln cultists has taken a swipe at my book Lincoln Über Alles: Dictatorship Comes to America Pelican, 2009 in a review in the current issue of North and South magazine Nov. 2010.

I said in my book, Lincoln Über Alles: Dictatorship Comes to America: Abraham Lincoln opened the door to the Leviathan central state that mandates, manipulates, and regulates virtually every aspect of life in America and seeks unilateral hegemony around the globe.

For this statement Holzer labeled should I say libeled? me as “paranoid,” “hysterical” and a “wacko.”The mere mention in my book that I disagree with the view of Lincoln espoused by former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo one of Holzer’s many sponsors in the leftist political Establishment drew the charge of being “especially mean-spirited.

“I suppose it has never occurred to Mr. Holzer to apply the word “mean” to a man like Cuomo who used the police power of the state to pile tax upon tax on the citizens of New York while blowing that money in a thousand frivolous ways that did little more than enrich his cronies. But you don’t see the world this way when your job is to provide political cover so the plunder of taxpayers for the benefit of the privileged, ruling elite do the names Holzer and Cuomo come to mind? can continue unabated.

Now it’s Cuomo’s son’s turn…

Doug Casey on Presidents: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Interviewed by Louis James, Editor, International Speculator

Recently: No Way Out

EXCERPT ONLY…

L: I also have to give credit to George Washington, in spite of the major turn down the wrong road he took for the whole country when he suppressed the Whiskey Rebellion by force, because he could have set himself up as king after the first American Revolution – and he didn’t.

Doug: He had the army, was very popular, and he could have done it – I agree, he could have made himself king, or been reelected until his death. But I can’t forgive him for crushing the Whiskey Rebellion; that set the precedent for federal taxation and power that eventually led to the Civil War and the bloated monster in Washington that has now burst almost all of its chains.

L: So, who was the worst president?

Doug: That’s a really tough question to answer, because there are so many deserving candidates for that title. A short list would have to include McKinley, Teddy Roosevelt, Wilson, Hoover, FDR, Truman, Johnson, Baby Bush, and Obama. But I’d have to say Lincoln was by far the worst. He plunged the country into a totally unnecessary and immensely devastating war, and violated every important part of the Constitution. But he was such a great rhetorician that he made Americans feel good about all the horrors he brought about, setting a doubly bad precedent.

L: I think I know what you’ll say, but for our readers who are used to hearing Lincoln described as some sort of saint, and probably America’s greatest president, can you expand on that? He preserved the union and freed the slaves…

Doug: The union was not preserved. A union of free and sovereign states was cemented into a single super-state, in which each individual state became nothing more than an administrative region. Who’s to say that a bigger U.S. was a better one anyway? This Civil War was really the Second American Revolution. Anyway, it wasn’t a civil war, which is technically a contest for the control of a single government; it was a war of secession, like that of 1776. I’m no fan of the Confederacy, but the wrong side won, overthrowing the federal organization that restrained national power, maximizing political and economic freedom.

L: Not for the slaves.

Stanton, Torture, and Military Prisons — Setting the Precedent
PART II
by Al Benson, Jr.

Author Nathaniel Weyl has agreed with Otto Eisenschilm’s view of what Edwin M. Stanton and company were all about. In The Battle Against Disloyalty he wrote: “In the Civil War and Reconstruction eras, the United States War Department bore some traces of resemblance to the Soviet secret police. It’s leaders were zealots who believed that, if the end didn’t justify the means, nothing else could.” Read more…

Mr. Lincoln The Socialist

by Al Benson Jr.

Over the years I have contended that Abraham Lincoln was a socialist–not that he was a card-carrying member of some socialist group, but rather that his mindset had that bent.
