Caruba: Living in the Government’s Fishbowl – gunnyg@gmail.com – Gmail
…..We have learned that we now all live in a government fishbowl.
In the aftermath of 9/11 the Bush administration did what it thought must be done to avoid a comparable attack, but the Obama administration has turned the Patriot Act into an excuse to ignore the Constitution and impose a potential police state on all of us.
In a June 6 Wall Street Journal opinion by Elizabeth Goitein, a co-director of the Liberty and National Security Program at the Brennan Center for Justice, warned that “The most tangible problem is the invasion of American’s privacy. The so-called metadata collected by the NSA includes information about our calls, such as the numbers we call, the numbers of those who call us, when the calls were made, and for how long. This information may seem relatively trivial at first blush. Yet, pieced together, these details can paint a detailed and sensitive picture of our private lives and our associations.”
Warning Signs: Destroying the U.S. Military
By Alan Caruba
The author of “1984”, George Orwell, once said, “The quickest way to end a war is to lose it.”
In the preamble to the U.S. Constitution, among the priorities listed is to “provide for the common defense” of the nation. After having fought a six-year war during the Revolution and replaced the failed Articles of Confederation, the framers of the Constitution, many of whom had fought beside George Washington, well understood the need for a standing army and navy to protect the new nation.
In the nation’s earliest years, Americans repeatedly elected Presidents with military credentials and experience. In addition to Washington they included Monroe, Jackson, Harrison, Tyler, Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush41 and 43. FDR had served as Secretary of the Navy.
Warning Signs: Living in a Forest…
By Alan Caruba
Driving around my hometown and surrounding communities in New Jersey, a familiar sight has been tree stumps, the wreckage left behind by Hurricane Sandy. Having lived here with few breaks my entire life, it never occurred to me how many trees there are. From a lookout point in the Essex County South Mountain Reservation area one sees in the distance the city of New York.
As far as the eye can see, it is entirely forested.
In an interesting new book, “Nature Wars”, by Jim Sterba, a veteran journalist, takes the reader on a journey to America’s long ago past and brings him to the present. In the process, he removes a lot of mythology and replaces it with some extraordinary facts that are the background for the way our modern lifestyles put us in conflict with many species that are not only thriving, but some which faced virtual extinction from over-hunting, especially during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The Great Ethanol Scam
By Alan Caruba
The rocketing costs of gasoline and the price of corn being paid worldwide are the result of U.S. government mandates requiring the inclusion of ethanol in the gasoline all Americans must use. The time has long since passed to eliminate ethanol from this primary fuel.
A recent report by ActionAid USA, “Fueling the Food Crisis: The Cost to Developing Countries of U.S. Corn Ethanol Expansion” is based on work by researchers at Tufts University.
ActionAid USA is an anti-poverty group. The study found that the corn-importing countries of Central America and North Africa are at the highest risk from ethanol expansion—the requirement to include ethanol with gasoline.
Warning Signs: EPA’s “Science” Evokes Nazi Death Camp Memories
By Alan Caruba
The “EPA has admitted to a federal court that it asks human guinea pigs to sacrifice their lives for regulatory purposes—and $12 per hour.” That was a recent news item reported by JunkScience.com’s founder, Steve Milloy.
“EPA has responded to our emergency motion for a temporary restraining order against its ongoing human experiment (called ‘Captain’) involving the air pollutant” known as “fine particles.”
Death of a Patriot (“One of a kind Tennessean Henry Lamb held a lifelong dedication to the American Constitution, and did more to warn average people about the destructive encroachment of the United Nations on human society than any other source.”)
By Judi McLeod Thursday, May 24, 2012
News comes to Canada Free Press (CFP) this morning from columnist Michael Oberndorf of the passing of outstanding American patriot, Henry Lamb.
One of a kind Tennessean Henry Lamb held a lifelong dedication to the American Constitution, and did more to warn average people about the destructive encroachment of the United Nations on human society than any other source.
His columns on the UN’s Agenda 21 which appeared on CFP, World Net Daily and elsewhere, were classics. The results of Lamb’s long ago dire warnings on the The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), also called the Law of the Sea Convention or the Law of the Sea treaty, sadly passed through the warning stage and are now about to become ratified and signed as airtight UN documents.
A tireless defender of liberty and freedom, Lamb shrugged off the excessive hate mail of progressives, focusing on researching and writing his next column.
Henry Lamb’s work was carried by print journal Toronto Free Press, the forerunner to CFP. Indeed Lamb and Alan Caruba have been CFP contributing columnists longer than anyone else.
MEASURING COW FARTS (Methane in cow farts)
This is an example of how stupid the entire cult of environmentalism is. Some “scientists” measured the amount of methane in cow farts by way of saving the Earth from something or other. If you look closely at virtually everything environmentalists say about any subject, you will conclude that it closely resembles cow farts.

The great issue of our times is the same great issue of the 1830s. The question is whether Congress can pass legislation or the President issue executive orders that are not authorized by or consistent with the Constitution?
The federal government is a republic composed of separate and sovereign republics.
What recourse do the States have individually and in combination when the central government acts in a fashion that is contrary to the limits and enumerated powers of the Constitution?
The answer, other than an appeal to the courts, is nullification. This term is defined as the assertion that States can and should refuse to enforce unconstitutional federal laws.
This is no trifling matter.
In the past two years since the advent of the Obama administration, the federal government has seized control of one sixth of the nation’s economy, asserting control over the provision of healthcare.
It seized control of General Motors and Chrysler auto manufacturers, arbitrarily casting aside the rightful expectations of their bondholders and other creditors.
It has imposed absurd and invasive demands on air travelers.
It is considering a United Nations treaty that would render the Second Amendment null and void.
It has sued Arizona for enacting an immigration law that mirrors its own.
It is attempting through the FCC to assert control over the Internet.
Greenwashing America by Alan Caruba
Every time you see some product being sold as “Green,” allegedly safer or beneficial for the environment, you can be sure that it is more expensive than a comparable product that does the same thing without making this claim.Everything you eat, drink, wear or use begins as a “natural” product.
It is absurd to think that calling it “Green” improves it in any fashion. Countless inspections before anything reaches the marketplace ensure product safety. To put it another way, a carrot is a carrot is a carrot.
Recently I received a news release from a public relations firm touting clients selling Green products such as “Parsley Plus All-Purpose Cleaner,” along with “stylish organic bed linens, “natural and organic clothing,” a “99.6% natural line” of shampoos, and, “100% Bamboo towels.”In a similar fashion, every time you hear a corporation claiming it is concerned about the environment you can be sure that it is trying to protect itself against lawsuits from environmental groups or Environmental Protection Agency action that will eat into its profits and dividends.
A recent Wall Street Journal article, “Misleading Claims on ‘Green’ Labeling” cited a study asserting that “more than 95% of consumer products examined committed at least one offense of ‘greenwashing’, a term used to describe unproven environmental claims, according to TerraChoice, a North American environmental-marketing company that issued the report.”

Why Sarah Palin is Ten Times the Leader Barack Could Ever Hope to Be
By Kelly O’Connell Full Story
“Obama against Palin—Are you nuts? Barack would wipe the floor with Sarah in every category without even trying!” Well, that’s what many Americans said when comparing the two in 2008. But oh, my—how the worm has turned! With Barack spending his whole presidency falling in the polls (now at 37%), even his own party can only hope to be elected by pretending they don’t know him.

Solving America’s Problems

I recently spent some time pondering how to solve some of the problems besetting America, and I thought that perhaps others might be interested in the solutions I came up with. So here they are:
Goodbye Global Warming, Hello Biodiversity
By Alan Caruba Full Story
After three decades of trying to push the global warming scam to a point where billions could be made selling and trading bogus “carbon credits”, the global schemers have abandoned it in the wake of 2009 revelations that a handful of rogue climate scientists were literally inventing the data to support it.
Obama Justice Dept. Denies Military Vote, Blames GOP
By Warner Todd Huston Full Story
The head of the Obama Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, Tom Perez, admitted this week that he has no real intention of trying to assure that members of our military are afforded their right to vote, and will not attempt in a timely fashion to enforce the MOVE Act (Military and Overseas Voter Empower Act) intended to make sure that our soldiers get their ballots with time enough to return them so that they can be counted on election day.
Well, I Swear! But to Who?

“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic…”
On 9/11, of 2010, I wrote an article with the title, “Domestic Enemies of the Constitution”, which was published on Canada Free Press. This article discussed the various oaths that our elected officials and military personnel swear upon entering their new positions.
Nov. 2 – Expect Huge Turns to the Right Unless ACORNs and Labor Unions Play Their Dirty Tricks
By Jerry McConnell Full Story
My advice to all election polling places, and I mean ALL, is to keep your eyes and ears open for unorthodox behavior not just during hours of voting, but before and after when sneaky hands can deface or change voting results.
And don’t think that these sleazy, unprincipled, conscienceless predators from ACORN, or whatever names they now sport to cover their past sins for which they have yet to be punished, are not benefactors for the liberals.

Halloween’s liberal message
By Greg Halvorson Full Story
This Sunday, little goblins will approach my door and walk away disappointed. Call me curmudgeon, but the mindset whereby “something for nothing” is expected and unearned has infiltrated society, and, thus, I don’t “treat.”

After years of hearing liberals tell us that any criticism of President Obama is because he is Black, it seems to me they ought to admit that he got elected because he is Black. In the interest of accuracy, he is half-Black and half-
There was a time when, if my Mother wanted to call my aunt in the same state, it was a “long distance” call. Now we live in a time when everyone is “connected” by
Normally, we assume that anyone who runs for and assumes the office of president has an agenda intended to succeed and thereby ensure that history will look favorably on his accomplishments. The men who served in that office craved success and loathed failure.
