Mark, if you haven’t studied the issue, why are you shooting your mouth off about something that you don’t know. The Constitution is plain in that a candidate for POTUS must be born on US soil, and be a “natural born” citizen, born of two citizen parents at the time of the birth. Curz qualifies on neither account. He knows it. If you do your research you will also. You shame yourself.

Sen. Rand Paul just “sidestepped questions about fellow Sen. Ted Cruz‘s (R-Texas) eligibility to run for president, saying he was not a ‘birther.'” Paul’s contempt for the requirements of the Constitution comes as no surprise to me, despite the fact that his supporters frequently pretend he is a staunch “constitutionist.”

But a staunch constitutionist would be careful to remember Joseph Story‘s admonition that acceptable constitutional construction “can never abrogate the text; it can never fritter away its obvious sense; it can never narrow down its limitations; it can never enlarge its natural boundaries.”

Whatever Obama, Hilary Clinton, Susan Rice and other Obama faction officials were seeking to achieve with their lies about the terrorist murders of U.S. officials in Benghazi; whatever the full extent of the ideologically motivated political abuses at the IRS, one thing is clear. Except for mindless apparatchiks, thoughtlessly loyal to the Obama cult, (like Chris Matthews and Al Sharpton, for example) no sane person can now consider it crazy or irrational to distrust the words and actions of those presently controlling the U.S. government. These scandals show the self-serving ‘chutzpah’ of Obama’s snide dismissal of people who “warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems….They’ll warn that tyranny [is] always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices.”

In one respect, Obama’s words ring true. Tyranny isn’t just around the corner. It is already upon us. Its forces are not yet confident enough to employ the ‘Gestapo’ tactics routinely associated with socialist dictatorship. But they have obviously been using their control of the Federal bureaucracy to repress and intimidate individuals and grassroots organizations, preoccupying their time and depleting their resources. Should we be encouraged by the fact that these abuses are now being openly discussed and decried? Only if the stir actually leads to actions that effectively curtail them, while establishing am oversight mechanism that assures continually formal and public scrutiny, to make sure that they cannot be repeated without an immediate outcry.

But what if no such action is taken? Inaction is likely, given the collaborative mindset of the GOP leaders in the U.S. House, and the Obama faction’s solid majority in the U.S. Senate. If it happens these abuses will recur in a more virulent form. And they will spread, like an infection treated with an inadequate course of antibiotics. People will realize that the abuses are still in train, and that their elected officials have done nothing to reduce each individual’s vulnerability. Increasingly tinged with fear, the angry public reaction against the abuses will wane. Spreading from one individual to another, as episodes of abuse proliferate, this individual fear will gradually intensify until it dominates the public mind. This is the way tyranny subverts peace of mind.

Obama’s inauguration speech morphs liberty into tyranny

January 31, 2013 Leave a comment

By Alan Keyes

People who have read and pondered the articles I’ve posted here over the years have undoubtedly noticed my consistent reliance on the principles and logic of the American Declaration of Independence. Many of America‘s self-professed conservative political leaders fail to think through and uphold the Declaration’s tenets. This may yet prove to be a flaw fatal to the prospects of liberty. Is this failure the result of incompetence? Or is it a matter of malicious choice? Whatever the explanation, in spurning the Declaration they discard the Providential gift that has been and remains America’s defining and most essential moral resource.

The heart of most Americans still responds to the understanding of justice conveyed in the Declaration’s most famous words, particularly its acknowledgment that “all men are created equal.” The Declaration’s words still move even those avowedly committed to the socialist degradation of America’s character and institutions. We see new proof of this in the inauguration speech just delivered by the idol they have lifted up to be the historical focal point for consummating that degradation. Barack Obama has consistently used a rhetorical device wherein he cites or alludes to the Declaration’s words even as he advocates and implements an understanding of government that contradicts the Declaration’s logic. He did so again last week:

The true right to secede comes from God, not the Constitution

December 6, 2012 38 comments

In an article I saw this week at WND, Pat Buchanan writes of the Declaration of Independence:

The declaration was signed by 56 angry old white guys who had had enough of what the Cousins were doing to them. In seceding from the mother country, these patriots put their lives, fortunes and honor on the line.

GyGRet

GyGRet (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

Four score and five years later, 11 states invoked the same right “to dissolve the political bands” of the Union and form a new nation. After 620,000 had perished, the issue of a state’s right to secede was settled at Appomattox. If that right had existed, it no longer did.

Secessionist or Federalist–which reclaims the Providential wisdom of America’s founding?

November 15, 2012 1 comment

By Alan Keyes

Among those still enthralled by the GOP, I guess that a majority would say they still respect America’s Revolutionary founders. And among those who do, some would even profess to adhere to the principles of the Revolution the founders made. Of course, that Revolution was not completed when the representatives of the people in their respective states moved to declare their independence on July 2, 1776.

United States political activist and former di...

Nor was it completed once they had supported the declaration made on July 4th by successful battle. But the aim they fought for was provisionally achieved once they united to ordain and establish the Constitution of a general government that respected the Revolution’s principles.

I frequently consult the famous articles on the Constitution produced by some of the American revolutionaries as part of the effort to persuade the people of the respective states to ratify the Constitution. In its compiled and edited form, their commentary has come to be known as “The Federalist.” In Federalist 10, Madison wrote: “In the extent and proper structure of the Union, therefore, we behold a republican remedy for the diseases most incident to republican government. And according to the degree of pleasure and pride we feel in being republicans, ought to be our zeal in cherishing the spirit and supporting the character of Federalists.”

Romney and Obama: ‘anti-Founders’

November 6, 2012 9 comments

By Alan Keyes

United States political activist and former di...

United States political activist and former diplomat, Dr. Alan Keyes (en) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This week, I read a surprising piece by WND‘s David Kupelian in which he asserted that people willing to accept the choice of evils in this year’s presidential election are following the example of America’s founders (“Beware the ‘lesser-of-two-evils‘ trap”). Kupelian notes that in order to secure approval of the U.S. Constitution, the founders compromised with the existence of slavery. He then asserts that “the Founding Fathers, by drafting, ratifying, and implementing the Constitution of the United States, engaged in the most monumental example in American history of deliberately choosing the lesser of two evils.”

I found the article surprising because its premise is a fallacy that I’ve had to deal with all my adult life. The founders did not choose the evil of slavery when they drafted the Constitution. To the contrary, they chose to plant, as the seed of American government, an understanding that acknowledges the true principle of right and justice for all human beings, which principle is the will of the sovereign God who created us. The founders then persuaded those who advocated slavery to accept a Constitution predicated upon this principle of justice, knowing that it would ultimately require the abolition of slavery. So, far from choosing the evil of slavery for blacks, they framed the Constitution with respect for the principle of government that recognized slavery as evil for all mankind.

garyjohnson

garyjohnson (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

The founders’ choice of true principle and the subsequent success of the American republic proved that successful government could be based on it. Before that, the protest against slavery came mainly from those forced to submit to it. They protested in vain. The right of government based on proven superior power (i.e., conquest) was considered unquestionable. Indeed, it was said to reflect the will of God (or in ancient times, the gods), who ordained and controlled the forces of nature and man’s fate.

Thus Mr. Kupelian appears to ignore the historically exceptional, even unique, nature of America’s founding. Until the founding of the United States, people who were themselves under the yoke of slavery had sometimes asserted and successfully battled to reclaim the good of freedom for themselves. But what people who had never been enslaved, and who had already won the war to preserve their own freedom, had ever gone on to establish a form government based on the principle of liberty for all mankind?

There is a bizarre, sophomoric “rah-rah yay team” dynamic in our culture whereby if the guy presented as being on “Team D” with the donkey mascot holds a position the “Team R” fans boo, while if the guy presented as being on “Team R” with the elephant mascot does exactly the same thing, the “Team R” people cheer.

My theory is that this is all a byproduct of the sports culture. People are trained to root for “their team”, no matter who the men are that are playing on the team. So, saying “I’m a Cowboys fan” or “I’m a Red Wings fan” or “I’m a Knicks fan” is the same thing mentally as “I’m a Republican.” It doesn’t matter who the players are, and players get moved around and traded. It doesn’t matter if a player gets accused of rape, or beating his girlfriend or gang-banging. So long as he is presented as being on “my team”, all is forgiven and we root for “our team.” Most importantly, it doesn’t matter how BAD a team is. You are still expected to root for “your team” no matter how awful they are.

Gunny G: Alan Keyes Got This one ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! (A pair of socialists: No real choice)

October 6, 2012 4 comments

Since Wednesday night, and for obvious reasons, a thought much like that otherwise expressed by Ralph Waldo Emerson has been going through my mind: “What you have done speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.”

Of course, the truth is that making a sound judgment about what someone says, even when we can hear it clearly, requires that we consider what they have done and what they say in light of a standard that may or may not be reflected in either.

GyGRet

GyGRet (Photo credit: GunnyG1345)

These days, especially in our politics, we are constantly being invited to forget that aspect of judgment. It’s like buying a car in a town with only one dealership and no access to anything like a CARFAX report. We’re given no option but to listen to the different sales patters and choose accordingly.

The Romney campaign has chosen to deploy a strategy that depends on drawing a contrast between Romney’s proven competence and Obama‘s disappointing incompetence (while being careful always to obscure the fact that Romney’s competence came in the role of socialist administrator during the Massachusetts phase of his career).

But just as the debris of Obama’s (competently executed?) policies for destroying America’s international prestige and security comes burbling to the surface of events (an ideal moment for Romney to expose this destructive competence for what it is), Romney puts on his own display of incompetence. His badly timed reaction to the assassination of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya handed Obama the chance to appear “Presidential,” while Romney appeared to be so focused on scoring political points that he didn’t even bother to inform himself of the true context in which he was speaking.

True representation–the Electoral College strategy

By Alan Keyes

This entry is part 6 of 6 in the series Restoring Representation

Step Three: Focus on a choice that represents the common good

On his departure from office, America’s first President, George Washington, delivered his famous Farewell Address in which, among other things, he warned against reliance on just the sort of partisan politics system that now dominates America’s political life, and that has deeply corrupted America’s political culture:

Let me now…warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the Spirit of Party…It exists under different shapes in all Governments, more or less stifled, controlled or repressed; but in those of the popular form it is seen in its greatest rankness and is truly their worst enemy….[T]he common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of Party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it….[I]n governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose.

A number of sources (including the Wall Street Journal) report that someone has used the White House’s “We the People” website to start a petition asking it to create a “Do Not Kill” list similar to the “Do Not Call” list that has been reasonably successful against telemarketers.

This follows the New York Times report that every week or so, a bunch of National Security People get together to flip through some PowerPoint slides and “recommend to the president who should be the next to die.” The president, who you may recall won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, then personally approves names on the “kill list” for execution targeted killing by drone. Restoring representation–A Strategic Proposal III (Cont’d)

Step Two: Focus on restoring the political standard of America’s founders and renewing America’s common bond

A. Look not for a President who will do for you, but for representatives who will choose a President most likely to do his sworn duty to the country.

In the lip-service they give to the true meaning of the Republican label, GOP leaders routinely speak of their belief in “limited government.” Yet in their practice of politics, they focus, just like the Democrats, on what government is doing, has done, or will do for some individuals and groups. In doing so, they give short shrift to the things that government is supposed to do for the people as a whole, according to the U.S. Constitution and the moral principles it is based upon. First among them: to secure the unalienable rights which are the common good of all. “To secure these rights, governments are instituted among men.” So says the Declaration of Independence. If this is the first duty of government, then it is the first duty of all the sworn officers of government, for their office (from the Latin officium, meaning service, duty, etc.) is their duty.

The elitist faction’s sham political process literally turns this priority upside down. The “what have you done for me lately” mentality was once mainly associated with urban bossism’s degradation of politics. The elitist demagogues have made it the byword of their campaign rhetoric. This is why their promise and spend, spend and borrow, and spend election strategies, which feed the addiction to government power, have bankrupted the nation. Down this bottoms-up political rabbit hole, the aim of the nominating process is to procure the best talking figurehead to speak for this political prostitution, with no more thought to duty or real qualifications than is required to find an attractive reader for the nightly news.

HAVE AMERICANS BROUGHT ABOUT THE HEAVY HAND OF GOVERNMENT?

by One Pissed-off Vietnam Vet, Presidential Candidate

Apocalypse?

Has the growth in the government allowed, or even encouraged, illegal immigration and other constitutional violations?

(Jan. 25, 2012) — We’ve all read those horror stories when “pet snake eats baby,” where the “pet” was a 16-foot anaconda, and “child bitten on neck by family pet rattler.” Your first thought was, “What were these people thinking?” when the answer is abundantly clear: they weren’t. Reminds me of Russia and China playing with Islamic Caliphates: what are they thinking? Surely they fail to see any correlation between the aforementioned snake owners and themselves.

If there is one glaringly weak spot that the United States has, it’s the lack of a comprehensive and logical foreign policy. Reminds me of the face-off between Alan Keyes and Soetoro, aka Obama, in South Side Chicago. Keyes offered fishing lessons: teach them how to fish, they can feed themselves for life, whereas the Obama character said, “Stay on welfare and I (the government, aka taxpayers) will give you fish for the rest of your life.” Well, we all know that the voters opted for dishonor, shame and a “free ride” (on the taxpayers’ dime), instead of the pride in earning the money in their pocket, an excellent example of the “give me, I somehow deserve it” mentality.

The State Department has treated whole countries as our government treats sections of large American cities.. And the irony is similar: you can’t buy friendship, or trust, or respect; they all must be earned. Liberal members of Congress can’t safely walk in the welfare neighborhoods at night, but they can if the hood is composed of those who work for a living.

Allow me to state right at the top that I am not endorsing Ron Paul.

Although I am a registered Republican, and ran for Congress in 2010 as a Republican, I am not a Republican. In fact, I am not even sure what that means any more…being a Republican. As I wrote way back in 2008 in reference to the political parties:

“It is like lying under a huge bug. Down on the ground where the bug’s feet are it looks like McCain and Obama are two different feet. But the farther up the legs you allow yourself to look you begin to realize that they really are nothing more than two legs connected to the same body.”

In 2000 I made my mark for GW Bush. After waking up, in 2004 I cast a vote for Michael Peroutka. Dr. Alan Keyes was my choice in 2008. I always vote my conscience.

The birthers press on

In a belated response to the birther movement, earlier this year the White House released Barack Obama’s “long form” birth certificate. Everyone believed it would finally silence the birthers; and it did — for a while. But since then, various independent researchers, as well as experts in graphics, computer software, and scanning equipment, have examined the document and now allege that it shows signs of tampering.

Letter: Obama and the Liberal Media (Recall Jack Ryan? Hussein’s Senate opponent smeared)

Seems like deja vu all over again when Barack Obama is running for office. He ran for the Senate against Jack Ryan until the liberal media was able to unseal a divorce settlement revealing sexual issues that forced Ryan from the race.

Then came Alan Keyes and the media rushed to expose his lesbian daughter, which helped give us senator Obama, and the rest is history.

Now comes conservative Herman Cain running strongly against Obama and the liberal media is at it again, releasing a 10-year-old sealed settlement, designed to help Obama win re-election.

Seldom does an unsourced, sealed settlement warrant this type of coverage, unless you are running against Obama and dealing with a biased news media.

Again! Supremes asked to look into eligibility

September 26, 2011 Leave a comment

The dispute over Barack Obama’s eligibility to be president erupted during the 2008 election campaign and featured among others a lawsuit filed on behalf of Ambassador Alan Keyes against California election officials who did not check whether Obama was eligibile. Now the 2012 campaign is charging ahead at full throttle, and the issue remains in the headlines.

That’s because the case was before the U.S. Supreme Court for a conference today. A conference is a meeting at which the justices decide which cases they will review. To date, none of the Obama eligibility challenges that have reached the high court have been accepted. It could be as long as a week or more before an announcement comes from the court.

Attorney Gary Kreep of the U.S. Justice Foundation is handling the case, and said, “If the U.S. Supreme court agrees to hear this case, and we pray that it will, it will send shock waves through the Washington political establishment. It will mean that the Supreme Court is going to follow the lead of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals justice who has publicly commented that this is an important constitutional issue.”

He continued, “We are awaiting the court’s decision.”

It was Judge Marsha Berzon of the 9th Circuit who commented during the oral arguments on the dispute that the issued appeared to be something of importance that needed to be resolved.

Obama’s military neglect: Is it intentional? – ALAN KEYES

August 27, 2010 Leave a comment

By design or incompetence, Obama appears to be intent on creating a quagmire in which to dissipate America‘s military strength and resources. Most Americans have no objection to seeing their loved ones in the military risk and give their lives to fulfill the oaths that preserve the liberty of our people.

It is deeply wrong to ask that they do so when the strategy that makes moral and military sense of their sacrifice has been cast aside. As I indicated in the above quoted article posted at Loyal to Liberty in May 2009, almost as soon as he entered the White House Obama abandoned the strategic vision that made sense of the U.S. military’s deployment to Afghanistan. Was this the result of incompetence? Or did it express the same disaffection with America that caused Mrs. Obama to say that as an adult she never felt pride in her country until her husband ran for president?

Such questions and doubts increased when mounting casualties confirmed the dire implications of the rules of engagement Obama agreed to impose on U.S. combat forces in Afghanistan. Now we have the report that the relatives of some U.S. personnel in Afghanistan “have accused the U.S. government of leaving defenders of its freedoms without basics such as blankets, food, feminine hygiene supplies and even bullets.” If true these allegations suggest a degree of criminal neglect at the highest level of command that warrants the immediate dismissal of those responsible, including the one who lays still doubtful claim to the authority of commander in chief.

Judges told they should resolve eligibility dispute

August 23, 2010 Leave a comment

A district court’s ruling in a dispute over Barack Obama‘s eligibility to be president, if allowed to stand, would strip minorities in the United States of “all political power” and leave the laws to be based “upon the whims of the majority,” according to a new filing in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The brief was filed by Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation, who is representing Wiley S. Drake, who was a vice presidential candidate on the 2008 ballot in California, and Markham Robinson, an elector from the state. The case also involves a long list of additional plaintiffs, including ambassador Alan Keyes, and they are being represented by California attorney Orly Taitz and are filing their pleadings separately from those on behalf of Drake and Robinson.

The case challenges Obama’s eligibility to be president, citing a lack of documentation for that status, and was the subject of hearings at the lower court level, where Judge David Carter heard arguments. However, he dismissed it because of his opinion that the plaintiffs suffered no injury – so they didn’t have “standing” – and the law left it to Congress to sort out eligibility issues so a court should not step in.Excerpt Read more at wnd.com …

The strange case of Judge David O. Carter | The Post & Email

WHAT TURNED THIS DECORATED WAR HERO INTO A PUPPET FOR THE OBAMA REGIME?

by David F. LaRocque

Judge David O. Carter was appointed to the federal bench by President Clinton in 1998Aug. 22, 2010 —

On August 11, 2010, an Appellants’ Opening Brief was filed with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by Dr. Orly Taitz, in the case Pamela Barnett, Alan Keyes, et al v. Barack Obama et al.

This appeal is seeking to overturn the decision of Judge David O. Carter of the United States District Court for the Central District of California in an order of dismissal issued on October 29, 2009. The grounds for the appeal are based on an assertion that the “District Court acted with bias, lack of impartiality, and under improper and undue influence from the Obama administration.”
