This blog spot has been rather quiet for the month of April. I went into the hospital on April 2nd and was there for 21 days, which pretty much shot April. I am home now and receiving therapy and hope to be a bit more vocal this month, Lord willing.
I did not get much news in hospital. What you see on tv hardly qualifies as news. Mostly it is someone’s spin on the news.
However I did hear, while in hospital that all three of Mr. Obama’s gun control bills had been defeated–all three. I was slightly amazed. I knew that the one banning “assault rifles” would probably not make it and even the one limiting magazine capacity was in trouble. However, most informed folks felt these bills would not make it anyway.

This GOP Rep’s Anti-Obama Speech on the House Floor Is Spreading Fast

Freshman Congressman Tom Cotton (R-AR) delivered some thought-provoking comments on terrorism and the Obama administration on Wednesday during a speech on the House floor. “In barely four years,” he said, “five jihadists have reached their targets in the United States under Barack Obama.”
But he wasn’t done there.

According to the lengthy survey of law enforcement professionals, one of the largest ever of street cops, 85 percent believe that President Obama’s gun control plan to ban assault weapons, limit the size of ammo magazines and expand background checks won’t improve their safety, with just over 10 percent believing it will have a “positive effect.”

An influential Gun Rights Advocate actually helped write the Background Check Bill coming up before the Senate this coming week. Alan Gottlieb, Executive Vice President of the Second Amendment Foundation, speaking candidly at a GOP gathering on Friday claimed that his staff had actually helped write the bill. He went on to describe how the Bill would be a step in the right direction for gun control advocates. “There’s a Million other checks in there it’s a Christmas Tree,” bragged Gottlieb, “We just hung a Million Ornaments on it.”

The Toomey-Manchin Proposal Will Allow Doctors to Block Your Right to Guns

I just talked to someone familiar with the Toomey-Manchin proposal who raises a serious concern based on his understanding of the legislation.
Everyone on all sides agrees that we need better help for those with mental health problems who need treatment.
Unfortunately, the person I talked with is concerned that the Toomey-Manchin proposal could discourage people from getting help.

A person who has their firearms stolen is the victim of a crime. To impose upon them the affirmative duty to report same to the Attorney General is an outrage. These people are not criminals, they are victims in that their property has been taken unlawfully.
This will lead to thousands of annual prosecutions of people who are claimed not have not reported “within 24 hours” their “alleged knowledge” of the theft. While there are certainly times that knowledge is obvious, such as when someone tears your gun safe off the concrete floor and rips a hole in the room in which it was formerly present to do so, a huge number of firearms are stolen without the person who has them taken being immediately aware of it.

Former congresswoman Gabby Giffords’ op-ed piece is getting a lot of praise on Twitter. This is the part of the piece that caught our attention: What they will do is create one fair system for all gun buyers, instead of the giant loophole we have now. Right now, we have one system where responsible gun owners take a background check —
And then we have a second system for those who don’t want to take a background check. Those people — criminals, or people suffering from mental illness, like the young man who shot me — can buy as many guns as they want on the Internet or at a gun show, no questions asked. Giffords seems to be implying that her shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, didn’t undergo a background check. This is not true. Loughner obtained the gun legally, and he passed a background check.

McCain emerges as key senator for expanding background checks

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has emerged as a key player if Senate Democrats are to have any chance of passing legislation to expand background checks for private sales of firearms.
McCain and Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Dean Heller (R-Nev.) are at the top of a list of Republicans considered most likely to sign on to legislation expanding background checks after talks with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) stalled earlier this month.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) has signaled he will likely support the yet-to-be-finalized proposal he negotiated with Sens. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to expand background checks to cover private gun sales, according to Senate sources.
The proposal includes modifications to attract Republican support. One would let rural gun owners conduct background checks from their home computers. Another would give military veterans who have been declared mentally unfit to own a gun a process for appealing that finding.

EDITIORIAL: Did the NRA Make a Backdoor Deal to Support Universal Background Checks? (VIDEO)

On Tuesday, NBC News alleged that the NRA would not fight a federal universal background check bill provided that the UBC bill omits language that calls for a national gun registry. Kaise Hunt, a political reporter for NBC News wrote:
Senators negotiating a bill mandating background checks for all gun buyers are privately expecting the National Rifle Association not to fight the measure — provided the legislation does not require private gun sellers to maintain records of the checks, NBC News has learned.
If that requirement is met and key Republican negotiator Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma signs on, the powerful gun lobby has signaled to lawmakers that they would not actively oppose the bill — and not count votes in favor of it as part of its highly influential NRA lawmaker ratings — according to Senate aides familiar with the stalled negotiations.
The story posted on NBCNews.com alleges that NRA will not oppose expanding the background check system to include all private firearm sales, “provided the legislation does not require private gun sellers to maintain records of the checks”.
This statement is completely untrue.
The NRA opposes criminalizing private firearms transfers between law-abiding individuals, and therefore opposes an expansion of the background check system.
The NRA supports meaningful efforts to address the problems of violent crime and mass violence in America, through swift and certain prosecution of violent criminals; securing our schools; and fixing our broken mental health system.
So, matter settled, right?
Perhaps. But, I believe the question isn’t whether the NRA would fight a UBC bill, because let’s face it, they’re the NRA, they’re going to publicly oppose anything that even vaguely resembles a gun control bill, the question is whether they would really care if it passed.

A First? President Obama Gets Standing Ovations From House Republicans

Talk about white smoke: I am told, by Republican sources, that President Obama got standing ovations at the beginning and end of his meeting today with House Republicans on Capitol Hill – his first such meeting in four years.
There were tough questions and no breakthroughs, but a source inside the closed-door meeting called it “very cordial” and told me that virtually every House Republican who stood up to ask a question began by saying, “Thank you for coming” and “You are welcome here anytime.” Some added, “We need to work together.”

What a, um, surprise. More lies from Janet Incompetanto’s DHS. At the EXACT same time her ICE division was setting 2,800 criminal illegal aliens loose from jails in 12 states before the ‘sequester’ in February – which Big Sis insisted was necessary due to “looming budget cuts” – her TSA division was sealing a $50-million deal to purchase new UNIFORMS for its agents. So for the same amount could have housed every one of those released detainees for an additional 10 months, TSA agents will look swell in shiny new uniforms, while thousands of criminal aliens are out on American streets. Oh and here’s the kicker: the uniforms were partially manufactured…IN MEXICO!
The impending sequester did not prevent the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from acting in late February to seal a $50-million deal to purchase new uniforms for its agents–uniforms that will be partly manufactured in Mexico.
Soon after this new investment in TSA uniforms, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warned Americans that the lines are already lengthening at airports due to the sequester.
“We are already seeing the effect on the ports of entry, the big airports for example,” Napolitano told Politico on Monday. “Some of them had very long lines this weekend.”
“Look people, I don’t mean to scare, I mean to inform,” Napolitiano said.”If you’re traveling, get to the airport earlier than you otherwise would. There’s only so much we can do with personnel and please don’t yell at the customs officers, the TSA officers. They aren’t responsible for sequester.”

The ads include black and white images after high-profile mass shootings at a Colorado movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre says he thinks the federal government wants universal background checks on gun owners to make it easier for federal officials to seize firearms.
LaPierre told a crowd of more than 1,000 people in Salt Lake City on Saturday that President Barack Obama’s call for universal background checks fails to address the problem of the nation’s gun violence.
The application already asks whether the person seeking the handgun permit has ever been committed to a mental institution. But until now, the Sheriff’s Office had never verified the answer.
Beginning Monday, handgun permit applicants will have to give permission for the Rowan County Clerk of Superior Court to release mental health records to the Sheriff’s Office.

Breaking… Obama is tripling-down on gun control via executive orders. Sounds like the Class 03 FFL/C&R will be limited or abolished. Will seek to erase the limit on the EPA‘s regulating lead bullets. Here it comes, unless the Repubs do something.
For gun appreciation day (1/19), the following sign will hit 2 birds with 1 stone -

Many of us received copies of gun and outdoors magazines back then. In addition to being chocked full of interesting articles on hunting, the history, use, and maintenance of your firearms, you could buy guns directly by mail from a host of gun dealers who advertised in these magazines. Pay the price and the shipping and your gun would be delivered directly to your home by an agent of the United States Government, the postman.
We have pictured here an assortment of mail order firearm advertisements from 1964 to 1967. Its amazing what $24.00 to $39.00 or so could bring to your door. Or, try this one. For a little more, how about an M1 Garand direct to your door for $79.99 plus $1.00 postage?
These ads will be a shocker to anyone who doesn’t know about the freedom of mail order back then. They will be nostalgic and painful for those of us who miss those salad days.

This video from nearly two years ago proves that the TSA has been molesting children for years, even before the “enhanced pat down” measures were announced.
The three year old girl screams “stop touching me” as the TSA goon feels up and down her legs and backside. The goon continues to grope her even after her mother picks her up and the child is clearly distressed. Is this the “risk-based” security procedure that Pistole and Napolitano are so proud of?
Is this really how we fight terrorists or, as the Drudge Report describes it today, have the terrorists already won?Now that rapists and pedophiles are being hired as a result of the TSA’s woeful background checks, the perverts will also be able to see a naked body scanner image of your daughter.
