Vice President Joe Biden blasted the NRA for engaging in a “disinformation” campaign meant to “scare people” from supporting background checks.

Vice President Joe Biden says requiring Americans to register guns would “cross a cultural line” that would incite conservatives and conspiracy theorists.
“The idea that you register your guns – it may make logical sense to say this, but there isn’t a constitutional right to own an automobile. There is a Second Amendment Constitutional right to own a weapon: the right to have and bear arms,” he said in an interview with NPR’s “All Things Considered.”

Records show Mr Biden has collected more than $13,000 since April on the cottage in Greenville, a wealthy Wilmington suburb, and is eligible for up to $66,000 (£40,000) before the contract expires in 2013.
Asked if the US Secret Service typically pays rent to those it protects, agency spokesman Edwin Donovan told The Washington Times: “It’s a rental property so we pay rent there.”
He said the proximity of the cottage to the Biden home allowed for extra tight security.
The cottage was lived in by Mr Biden’s mother before she died and then was rent commercially to a tenant for a year. When he moved out, the Secret Service took up the lease after renting other homes nearby.

The Department of Justice, responding to an Executive Order issued by President Obama, issued a memo to all sections encouraging them to hire more persons with “targeted disabilities.” Among the disabilities targeted are people with “severe intellectual disability,” “psychiatric disability” and other “current severe physical, intellectual or mental conditions.”

Vice president Joe Biden told CBS News Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” self-defense law will become a subject of debate following the Trayvon Martin shooting.
“It’s important that people be put in a position where their Second Amendment rights are protected, but that they also don’t, as a consequence of the laws, unintendedly put themselves in harm’s way,” Biden told Bob Schieffer in an interview that will air on “Face the Nation” on Sunday.
Biden told CBS it is questionable if firearms allow people to protect themselves. “The idea that there’s this overwhelming additional security in the ownership and carrying concealed and deadly weapons… I think it’s the premise, not the constitutional right, but the premise that it makes people safer is one that I’m not so sure of,” Biden said.
According to Gun Owners of America, firearms are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. “Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year — or about 6,850 times a day,” a GOA factsheet notes. “This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.” In the vast majority of cases, brandishing a firearm prevented an attack of crime, the statistics reveal.

Biden’s comments, made at a Democratic fundraiser in Morris Township, NJ, ranked the May 2011 assault that ended the Al-Qaeda chief’s life above the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944, the surprise landing at Inchon in 1950 that turned the tide of the Korean War or, going back a bit further, George Washington’s daring night-time crossing of the Delaware River before the Battle of Trenton in 1776.
