Siemon also points out that the Fairgrounds agreement came almost immediately after Sen. Rand Paul‘s surprise endorsement of Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

“It seems too coincidental,” he told Business Insider, adding slyly: “We’re conspiracy theorists, after all.”

By far, I think the most damaging thing Rand Paul did last week was attempt to link the Mitt Romney views on the Fed as being the same as those of his father.

As Republican iconoclast Ron Paul secretly racks up delegates for his insurgent 2012 presidential bid, his son, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, is quietly opening up a new phase in the Ron Paul Revolution: He’s getting ready to run for President.

The younger Paul’s prospective campaign is still four, or eight, years away, but the junior Senator appears to be taking all the right steps to position himself for when the time comes. Later this month Rand will return to Iowa — without his father — to deliver the keynote speech at the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalitions spring rally — the most obvious indication yet that Sen. Paul has his own presidential ambitions.

“He loves Iowa,” Sen. Paul’s communications director Moira Bagley told Business Insider. “He’s been out there so much, with his dad’s campaign, so he’s really comfortable and really happy with the people out in Iowa, and especially the evangelical groups.”

In fact, Sen. Paul’s overture to Iowa’s social conservatives is evidence of a budding romance between the Kentucky Republican and evangelical leaders, most of whom have never been particularly taken with the elder Paul.

Business Insider has learned that Sen. Paul has even been approached about a possible trip to Israel with Christian activist David Lane, a conservative kingmaker whose “Pastor Policy Briefings” helped launch Mike Huckabee’s political star in 2008.

The US Military Stocking Up On Anti-Radiation Pills In Preparation for Nuclear Fallout

The US Military is currently seeking a large amount of potassium iodide, this according to a listing on the FBO.gov website by the Defense Logistics Agency.

In the listing it is made clear that they want to be ready in the event of nuclear fallout which has lead many to speculate that this could be in response to the Fukushima nuclear disaster or perhaps in anticipation for an attack on an active Iranian nuclear facility.

The DLA is apparently looking for upwards of 400,000 dollars worth of the thyroid protecting tablets at a time when many government officials have openly told American citizens NOT to buy potassium iodide.

In an article published by Business Insider on March 10th, some of the possibilities as to why this order has been put in were explored.

The U.S. has bought potassium iodide tablets in the past, and is now looking ahead to scenarios, possibly spurred by last year’s Fukushima crisis.

As the federal solicitation is quick to point out, “The recent earthquake in Japan in March of 2011 and the resultant nuclear crisis has renewed interest in this item.

His campaign’s decision to bypass Florida has virtually guaranteed that Paul will stay out of the news cycle, at least until the state’s primary election on Jan. 31.

After tonight’s debate in Jacksonville, the candidate plans to spend the weekend campaigning in Maine — not exactly a hotbed of political activity these days.

As crazy as it seems, Paul’s schedule is actually very strategic. Senior advisors for the campaign say that they remain focused on picking up as many delegates as possible — and that means allocating its resources efficiently.

In a recent interview with Business Insider, Paul’s campaign manager John Tate pointed out that there is no benefit to spending precious time and money in Florida, where Paul is polling in the single-digits. The expensive winner-take-all state lost half of its delegates by moving up its primary up to January; even if the state is forced to divide its delegates proportionally, by Congressional district, there is little chance that Paul will win any district outright.

“It’s just so expensive, and we figure, spending $9-$12 million in ads might not be worth it,” Tate said. “We’re spending our money more wisely….Spending half a million dollars to win all of North Dakota’s delegates is a lot more efficient than spending $12 million to maybe win some of Florida’s delegates.”

Has Ron Paul committed the unpardonable sin?

It is no secret that in politics the infamous “race card” trumps all. We have seen it used time after time.

Most recently it has been used by Eric Holder to answer the question (at least in his own mind) as to why there is such a resounding cry for his resignation or impeachment.

Before him was Jeremiah Wright who so eloquently told his church that Obama would make a better president because Hillary Clinton didn’t know what it was like to be a black man in a society run by rich white people.

It is fair to say that the “race card” will continue to be the high card in political poker for years to come.

Ron Paul is now going to get to experience this first hand with his newfound seat at the head of the Iowa Caucus polls. In recent days many media outlets have picked up on a little known skeleton in the closet of Mr. Paul.

Ron Paul published a series of newsletters in the 1980’s and 1990’s that apparently were full of very racist and inflammatory rhetoric. A recent report from the Business Insider has provided a list of newsletters and the remarks made within them. The newsletters in question were:

The U.S. military has some of the most advanced killing equipment in the world that allows it to invade almost wherever it likes at will. We produce so much military equipment that inventories of military robots, M-16 assault rifles, helicopters, armored vehicles, and grenade launchers eventually start to pile up and it turns out a lot of these weapons are going straight to American police forces to be used against US citizens.

Benjamin Carlson at The Daily reports on a little known endeavor called the “1033 Program” that gave more than $500 million of military gear to U.S. police forces in 2011 alone. 1033 was passed by Congress in 1997 to help law-enforcement fight terrorism and drugs, but despite a 40-year low in violent crime, police are snapping up hardware like never before. While this year’s staggering take topped the charts, next year’s orders are up 400 percent over the same period.
