Articles: Lincoln Immortal?….. “Most students do not know that a score of years is twenty and, therefore, that Lincoln in 1863 references the year 1776 and the Declaration of Independence. And instead…”
…..The typical college student does not know Lincoln. The phrase “Four score and seven years ago” from the Gettysburg Address is that one fine morsel that begets familiarity, but without meaning or significance.
Most students do not know that a score of years is twenty and, therefore, that Lincoln in 1863 references the year 1776 and the Declaration of Independence.
And instead of simply saying, for instance, “Eighty-seven years ago,” Lincoln deliberately chooses to use the Biblical language of Psalm 90, demonstrating that the time since the founding exceeds the allotted lifetime of man. As time separated those of Lincoln’s generation from the founders, so too has time separated our own generation from Lincoln. But now the gulf is much greater.
(The 5 Black Presidents of the USA…) Black People And Their Place In World History
Joel A. Rogers and Dr. Auset Bakhufu have both written books documenting that at least five former presidents of the United States had Black people among their ancestors.
If one considers the fact that European men far outnumbered European women during the founding of this country, and that the rape and impregnation of an African female slave was not considered a crime, it is even more surprising that these two authors could not document Black ancestors among an ever larger number of former presidents. The president’s names include Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Warren Harding, and Calvin Coolidge.

Shah Gilani writes: Rampant profiteering by Congress and greedy bankers is forcing us to weigh the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune against honesty and transparency – both of which are being trampled by crony capitalists in pursuit of the almighty dollar.
What’s at stake is whether gross criminal activity and reckless disregard for the public will continue to be whitewashed by regulators like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the U.S. Federal Reserve, courts, and Congress, which encourage half-baked civil fraud charges followed by non-prosecution agreements and nickel-and-dime fines.
And even more galling, guilty parties end up neither admitting nor denying wrongdoing.
Let’s face it, we have allowed the SEC, the Fed, and Congress to be corralled as a matter of regulatory and legislative capture by the very crooks they are responsible for policing and protecting us from.
We are lying to ourselves if we do not believe that we are all part of this problem. It’s not that most of us aren’t honest. It’s that we venerate money and wealth too much.
Rather than being disgusted by dishonest manipulators, liars and cheats, we excuse the less-than-obvious perpetrators as if their example of cutting corners to get ahead, as far ahead as possible, might clear a path for some of our own pursuits.
What have we become? Are we a nation of people with liberty and justice for all, or just a bunch of money grabbers stepping on each other’s liberties to pursue self-centered happiness by becoming filthy rich?
Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with the profit motive driving business. And there’s nothing wrong with working hard and trying to make a lot of money. Those are honorable pursuits.
Supercommittee Fight May Tell Us Whether the GOP Is Beyond Salvage

Some people have asked why I’m so agitated about the possibility that Republicans may acquiesce to tax increases as part of the Supercommittee negotiations.
Rather than get into a lengthy discourse about the proper role of the federal government or an analysis of how the Bush-Obama spending binge worsened America’s fiscal situation, I think this chart from a previous post says it all.
Republicans are considering a surrender on taxes because they are afraid that a deadlock will lead to a sequester, which would mean automatic budget savings. And the sequester, according to these politicians, would “cut” the budget too severely.
But as the chart illustrates, that is utter nonsense.

1932 Bonus March – Re Patton; MacArthur; Eisenhower, etc.
The most notable domestic use of Regular troops in twenty years of peace happened in the nation’s capital in the summer of 1932. Some thousands of “Bonus Marchers” remained in Washington after the adjournment of Congress dashed their hopes for immediate payment of a bonus for military service in World War I. On July 28, when marshals and police tried to evict one group encamped near the Capitol, a riot with some bloodshed occurred. Thereupon President Herbert C. Hoover called upon the Army to intervene

(…”It’s helped him attain the second-highest office in the free world”…) Obama’s glory was inevitable, says Obama
I need to start this off with a confession: Sometimes I feel guilty about mocking Obama’s narcissism. It’s not like he can help it.

It’s just who he is. It’s helped him attain the second-highest office in the free world, but it’s also a curse he can’t escape. Should I really keep making fun of him for it? Shouldn’t I give him a break already?
