CNN) — I’m going to start with three data points. One: Some of the Chinese military hackers who were implicated in a broad set of attacks against the U.S. government and corporations were identified because they accessed Facebook from the same network infrastructure they used to carry out their attacks.
Two: Hector Monsegur, one of the leaders of the LulzSac hacker movement, was identified and arrested last year by the FBI. Although he practiced good computer security and used an anonymous relay service to protect his identity, he slipped up.

A former FBI counterterrorism agent has hinted at a vast and intrusive surveillance network used by the U.S. government to monitor its own citizens.
Tim Clemente admitted as much when he appeared on CNN Wednesday night.
Discussing the Boston Marathon attack and past telephone conversations of Katherine Russell and her now deceased husband, suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Clemente said that those conversations would be available to investigators.

Anti-smoking groups applaud the proposal, but some tax experts and tobacco companies are against it.
The case for the tax. The tax is being presented as way to fund education and reduce smoking rates. It would raise roughly $78 billion over 10 years.
“The proposed tobacco tax increase would have substantial public health benefits, particularly for young Americans,” the president’s budget read. “Researchers have found that raising taxes on cigarettes significantly reduces consumption, with especially large effects on youth smoking.”

Within 15 minutes after this journalist contacted his Senator in reference to a viral tweet from former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs about the Department of Homeland Security‘s ammunition and tank purchases, a military helicopter flew directly over my house in what most likely was another unsuccessful attempt at intimidating the media.
Meanwhile, the United States government continues to buy up as much ammunition as they possible can, and for what reason? That is exactly what I tried to ask of Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland today, prior to having a military helicopter fly directly over my house at a very low height, 100′ – 200′ max.

Newspaper editor and book author Bob Woodward continued his battle with President Barack Obama’s administration on Thursday, saying the White House is playing the “old trick” of attacking the messenger because he accurately reported the president’s reversal on the upcoming sequester.
“They got caught and — this is an old trick — make the conduct of the press the issue rather than their conduct,” Woodward told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Thursday night. “The biggest story in Washington is the town itself. What a craze it has become.”

“I think they’re confused,” Woodward told CNN host Wolf Blitzer. Woodward apparently went on to criticize Obama further over the sequester the same day he received the warning from the White House.

(CNN) — The former Army staff sergeant who was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama Monday is declining the first lady’s invitation to be her guest at Tuesday’s State of the Union address.

Tea party leaders are turning to Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, to deliver their message following President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, a speech that will compete with the official Republican response.
Paul will make his remarks soon after Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, wraps up the GOP response Tuesday night, a Paul spokeswoman confirms to CNN.
At a Wednesday press conference, the outspoken pacifist and ardent Democrat Bennett compared isolated gun deaths in the U.S. to Nazi concentration camps and said that if America did not do something to curtail violence in this country, the other countries would “take care of us in a really bad way,” just like they did in World War II to the Germans. Bizarre video and story below.
In a subsequent interview with CNN, Bennett declined to defend his comments but he did not distance himself from them either. Here’s what he said in full at the conference:

Who else could it have been? Jindal and Paul Ryan have already done it, Rand Paul’s probably still too close to the rEVOLution for Republican leaders to be comfortable with him in a spot like this, and Chris Christie would just end up talking about how terrific Obama’s speech was. Half the reason party leaders are pushing amnesty, I’m convinced, is because Rubio’s that good in front of a mic and this issue gives him access to lots and lots of microphones. If, as McCain bluntly concedes, immigration reform is all about earning goodwill from Latino voters, then of course the party’s biggest Latino star gets this platform.
And in case you’re hazy on who the target audience here is, Rubio will deliver his address in English and Spanish:
Last week, Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced a new, supposedly improved version of the federal “assault weapon” ban that expired in 2004. But like that earlier law, which the California Democrat also sponsored, Feinstein’s bill prohibits the manufacture and sale of guns based on characteristics that have little or nothing to do with the danger they pose.
Although arbitrary distinctions are a defining characteristic of “assault weapon” bans, recent polls indicate that most Americans support them. New survey data suggest one possible explanation: Most Americans don’t know what “assault weapons” are.

And the interesting thing is that I haven’t changed since Jonathan Karl knew me. I mean, he knows who I am and he knows what I’m about. He knows the kind of person I am. But that doesn’t matter. He has other considerations now because he works at ABC. Via the Daily Caller, a teaser for his appearance on “Hannity” later tonight. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that a guy who just visited Israel and is now talking about blocking executive overreach on gun-grabbing just might be running for president in 2016.
President Barack Obama’s deputies have quadrupled the number of signatures that petitioners on the administration’s “We the People” website must collect to get an official response from the White House, following a series of popular, provocative and disrespectful signature drives by his critics.
Some of the petitions sought approval for states to secede after Obama’s re-election, while others called on the White House to disavow executive orders that restrict gun rights, or to deport CNN’s British-born, progressive host Piers Morgan.
“Starting today, as we move into a second term, petitions must receive 100,000 signatures in 30 days in order to receive an official response from the Obama Administration,” said an early evening Jan. 15 statement from Macon Phillips, the White House’s digital strategy director.

Both before and after the appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight Monday, Alex and Infowars video producer Rob Dew knew they were being followed and that people seemed to be casing them around New York City.
In addition to being intimidated in New York, Alex was also the target of thinly-veiled death threats on the Piers Morgan program the night following his appearance.
“I don’t care what the justification is that you’re allowed in this country to own a semi-automatic weapon – much less a handgun. But what do you need a semi-automatic weapon for? The only reason I think you’d need it is, Piers, challenge Alex Jones to a boxing match, show up with a semi-automatic that you got legally and pop him.”
Morgan’s guests laughed at the thought of Jones’ murder. Guest Abby Huntsman, a host and producer at HuffPost Live, said, “I’d love to see that…in uniform,” to which Morgan said, “I’ll borrow my brother’s uniform.”
After Doug Hagmann, of the Northeast Intelligence Network, learned that Jones was appearing on the CNN program, he contacted his DHS insider source who told him that federal agents were indeed “assigned to follow Alex Jones during his visit to New York.”

It’s time we became leaders… (“If you are reading this, you are a leader. As leaders, we must unite and discuss how to accomplish this, and do it now. While we still can……..”)
…Accepting your task
It is therefore up to us, to you reading this column, to accept the mantle of leadership. We must have a discussion, right now, far more meaningful than sound bites and bullet points, partisan politics and business as usual. From this discussion, we must chart a plan of action.
While the majority of the population is entranced, entertained or clinging with white knuckles to their normalcy bias, we do not have the luxury of time nor the ability to keep drawing new lines in the sand as we are being forced backward into a state of subjugation and slavery.
We need to decide right now where our line in the sand is and even make plans to recover lost liberties. We must make our individual stands known so we may become the collective resistance against the tyranny that is about to be unleashed upon us.
We need to replace our virtual “beer muscles” some have developed as anonymous keyboard warriors with genuine courage and a plan of action to restore our God given rights and freedoms established by the U.S. Constitution.
While CNN’s Piers Morgan is a well known critic of America’s Second Amendment, he has now ventured into a new campaign to reform another document critical in the development of western civilization; the Bible.
During a discussion on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Monday — Christmas Eve — with Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren, Morgan argued that there needs to be an “amendment to the Bible” for same-sex marriage, because like the Constitution, the Bible is “inherently flawed.”
“Both the Bible and the Constitution were well intentioned but they are basically, inherently flawed. Hence, the need to amend it,” Morgan told Warren during a conversation where Morgan emphasized the need for America to separate Church and State.

How convenient for our political overseers: there has been another mass-shooting – this time at a Connecticut grade-school – in which many adults and young children were murdered. Members of the mainstream media, politicians, and other government officials are being turned loose to share their lack of critical thinking with a public conditioned to await their direction.
With the kind of frenzy exhibited by a monkey that has been bitten by a scorpion, establishment sock-puppets quickly respond with proposals to further enhance state power while, at the same time, shrinking individual liberty. Taking the advice of the neo-Machiavellian Rahm Emanuel – that “a crisis is a terrible thing to waste” – the victims in Connecticut will join those in the Oregon shopping mall, Columbine and Aurora, Colorado, and elsewhere, to be exploited on behalf of disarming Americans.
Yes, this is the same elegant creature who screeched about “taking out” Tea Party “son-of-a-bitches” [sic] at a presidential event last year. In case you’d forgotten, both the White House and the DNC conspicuously declined to repudiate his vituperation at the time. Now Jimmy Hoffa, Jr. has taken his anger mismanagement show to CNN, seething about an incipient “civil war” in Michigan:
Jimmy Hoffa, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, said Tuesday he expects Michigan unions and lawmakers to break out into “civil war” after the state legislature passed right-to-work bills that would weaken unions’ power. “This is just the first round of a battle that’s going to divide this state. We’re going to have a civil war,” Hoffa said on CNN’s Newsroom.
“What they’re doing is basically betraying democracy,” he told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin. “If there’s any question here, let’s put it on the ballot and let the people of Michigan decide what’s good for Michigan.” Proponents of the legislation say it gives workers more freedom, while opponents say a less robust union presence will negatively affect workers’ rights. Hoffa also argued that those who don’t pay union dues will be considered “free riders,” as they’re getting the same benefits from union representation without the cost.
On Monday, Research Director of the Independence Institute David Kopel appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight to debate the issue of gun-related violence with Piers and Josh Horwitz from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.
In the video below, you can see the debate unfold. What’s most telling in this exchange is Morgan’s admission that he, personally, would like to “Remove every gun in America.”
Of course, what preceded this statement only seconds earlier was the perfunctory disclaimer, which is often made by those who secretly wish to pass onerous gun laws, “I do have a respect for the Second Amendment.”

Kyl suggests Benghazi ‘cover-up’
Sen. Jon Kyl, (R-Ariz.) suggests the Obama administration orchestrated a “cover-up” of the events that led to the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.
“There are three questions that have to be answered,” Kyl said in an interview aired Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” appearing on a panel with three other retiring senators. “Why weren’t the warnings about the need for security heeded? Why weren’t the requests for help during the ted attack answered and why did the administration think it had to cover up all the things that occurred before by putting out to the American people a narrative that I think will turn out to be absolutely false?”
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison(R-Texas), agreed, saying that more than 10 days after the deadly attack, “top level people” were disseminating incorrect information.
One blogger likes this.
Will cities all over America erupt in violence if Mitt Romney wins the election? Right now we are probably witnessing the most divisive campaign in modern U.S. history, and both sides truly hate one another. Even CNNis running articles about how polarized politics in America has become and how vicious both sides can be.
There is a lot of anger and frustration out there that has been bottled up for a long time, and this election could end up being a trigger event that releases a lot of it. Both sides are entirely convinced that they can win this tightly contested election, and one side is going to feel bitterly disappointed when it does not happen. Both sides are talking as if it is going to be “the end of America” or “the end of the world” if they lose this election. This is particularly true when it comes to Obama supporters.
There is a lot on this blog that, in my opinion, doesn’t point to any pre-knowledge. However, the second point that is made, and supported by video, is that Obama knew who the questioner was regarding the Benghazi attack BEFORE the questioner identifies himself.
Is this the lull before the storm? (“The big question is will he lead the Socialist Revolution of America from the Oval Office or from the street as a returned community organizer with the power of “former President” added to his name.”)

the question is being raised as to why, of all the material Crowley could possibly have had in front of her that night, Candy Crowley had the transcript from the Rose Garden Benghazi statement — and Obama seemed to know that…there are a lot of people raising the question of behind-the-scenes coordination — all stemming from Obama’s instruction (and it certainly sounded like an instruction) to “Get the transcript.”

Journalism: If the mainstream press had any self-respect, presidential debate moderator Candy Crowley would be out of work today. Even by the media-bias standards we’ve come to expect, she set a new, unforgivable low.
In a pre-debate interview with the Baltimore Sun‘s David Zurawik, Crowley talked about how she saw her role as moderator.
In what surely was one of the weirdest incidents in a presidential debate, CNN’s Candy Crowley egregiously sided with President Obama on his false remarks on Libya, was repeatedly and decisively fact-checked post-debate as wrong (somewhere between “mostly wrong” and “pants on fire” in my book) and then backed away from her own incorrect assertion.
During Tuesday’s post-debate coverage on CNN, as the panel discussed moderator Candy Crowley giving cover to President Obama’s attempt to defend his initial flawed response to the Benghazi terrorist attack, CNN correspondent John King blamed former Governor Mitt Romney for giving Crowley the opening to undermine the GOP candidate’s criticism of Obama for taking so long to recognize that the attack was a premeditated act of terrorism.
