The strange birth of NY’s gun laws

The father of New York gun control was Democratic city pol “Big Tim “Sullivan — a state senator and Tammany Hall crook, a criminal overseer of the gangs of New York.

 

In 1911 — in the wake of a notorious Gramercy Park blueblood murder-suicide — Sullivan sponsored the Sullivan Act, which mandated police-issued licenses for handguns and made it a felony to carry an unlicensed concealed weapon.

This was the heyday of the pre-Prohibition gangs, roving bands of violent toughs who terrorized ethnic neighborhoods and often fought pitched battles with police. In 1903, the Battle of Rivington Street pitted a Jewish gang, the Eastmans, against the Italian Five Pointers. When the cops showed up, the two underworld armies joined forces and blasted away, resulting in three deaths and scores of injuries. The public was clamoring for action against the gangs.

Bloomberg and Cuomo come from the jurisdiction where major gun control legislation was established by New York State Democratic Senator Timothy “Big Tim” Sullivan. Sullivan became known as a Tammany Hall crook intent on protecting his mobsters from prosecution and disarming innocent civilians in New York State.

The Sullivan Act was passed in 1911 after a murder suicide shooting. The law mandated that New York residents must have police issued licenses for concealed handguns, otherwise it would be considered a felony.

Former Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura called for the abolition of the Democratic and Republican parities in an appearance last night on CNN, saying they are worse than violent warring street gangs.

 

In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ventura did not hold back, urging that “We need to abolish the political parties,” and “Make them political action committees.”

 

As he does in his new book, the former Navy Seal compared the current two party US political system to the infamous Los Angeles street gangs the Bloods and Crips.

From my perspective, I can’t advocate anymore for third-party politics. We’ve got to face the reality that the two parties control the system to such an extent that, to be viable, a third party would have to sell out and become just as bad.

The FBI tells us that there are now 1.4 million gang members involved in the 33,000 different gangs that are active inside the United States. The number of gang members in the U.S. has increased by 40 percent since 2009. Just think about that. That is absolutely astounding. Just since 2009, the number of gang members has increased by 40 percent. The FBI says that 48 percent of all violent crime in this country can be directly traced to gangs and that this is a national crisis that is progressively getting worse. Unfortunately, the federal government refuses to secure our borders and is allowing new waves of illegal immigrants to enter the United States every single day. A substantial number of those illegal immigrants end up involved in these gangs. Yet the federal government just stands by and allows it to keep happening. One day, the foolishness of this policy will be evident to all.

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting fed up with these self-important gangs of masked, black-clad agitators running roughshod over our city streets. They’ve occupied parks, shut down roadways, vandalized private property, assaulted law-abiding citizens and left entire communities afraid to venture into financially struggling downtown business districts. They’ve wielded spray cans and left behind eyesores that have incensed the community.

I am speaking, of course, about the police.

The FBI has released a new gang assessment announcing that there are 1.4 million gang members in the US, a 40 percent increase since 2009, and that many of these members are getting inside the military (via Stars and Stripes).

The report says the military has seen members from 53 gangs and 100 regions in the U.S. enlist in every branch of the armed forces. Members of every major street gang, some prison gangs, and outlaw motorcycle gangs (OMGs) have been reported on both U.S. and international military installations…..

Border Wars Texas is Ground Zero (update) Texas Border Security Report

“During the past two years, the state of Texas has become increasingly threatened by the spread of Mexican cartel organized crime,” the report concluded.

The report states six of the seven Mexican drug cartels have “command and control” operations in Texas cities.

“Texas has become critical terrain and operational ground zero in the cartel’s efforts to expand into the United States,” the report stated.

McCaffrey said the cartels are heavily recruiting Texas gang members to help insure the transportation of drugs into the United States and cash from the sale of drugs back into Mexico. McCaffrey said the Texas Department of Public Safety estimates at least 18,000 Texas gang members are already working for the cartels, and the number of prison gangs working with the cartels increased from four to twelve in the last year.

“That is an enemy division inside Texas that is armed and criminal in nature and fueled by drug money,” McCaffrey said.
