The prices that Americans pay for gas at the pump may reach an all-time high this summer. The average price is $3.70 per gallon, which is an increase of 30 cents since July and the climb in price from July to
August was 9 percent. The increase is particularly concerning because a reduction in global demand, caused by a persistent world-wide recession, has kept demand for gas relatively low. Some have predicted that the price of gas will reach $3.90 per gallon before Labor Day. Gas prices have risen each month for seven straight months this year……….

To meet the Obama administration’s targets for increasing fuel taxes, researchers say that Americans will have to pay $7 for a gallon of gasoline; about 17 percent more than drivers in green-conscious and generally highly taxed Sweden.
In their study, researchers at Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs devised several combinations of tax increases to address 70 percent of the oil used in the United States. The combinations were selected to match fuel consumption reduction targets. Most of their models assumed an economy-wide carbon dioxide tax starting at $30 a ton in 2010 and escalating to $60 a ton in 2030. In some cases researchers also factored in tax credits for electric and hybrid vehicles, taxes on fuel or both.

Fear of Iran is inflating gas prices
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Tensions with Iran are adding at least 30 cents to a gallon of gasoline in the United States, and experts say gas prices have only just begun to rise.
Gasoline prices have surged over 10% in the last two months, largely tracking the runup in oil prices, which have increased by a similar amount and are now at a 9-month high.
Several factors have caused oil prices to rise, including the sense that the economy is improving and supply disruptions in a handful of minor oil producing nations.
But the biggest factor by far, say analysts, is fear that tensions with Iran will lead to an all-out war that causes a disruption in oil supplies.
“The market right now is fairly well supplied,” said John Kingston, director of oil, at the analytics firm Platts. “You’ve just got a significant fear factor that things could get worse.”

Gasoline prices could soar as high as $7 a gallon this summer thanks to supply threats stemming from Middle East unrest as well as OPEC policy, says real estate mogul Donald Trump.
Iran has already cut off supply to France and to the U.K. to protest sanctions from the west, who accuse Tehran of developing a nuclear weapons program.
U.S. military officials have said they feel they can ration with Iran, although fears are growing that Israel may consider a unilateral strike on Iran anyway, which is sending crude oil skyrocketing.
Prison Planet.com » The Price Of Gas Is Outrageous – And It Is Going To Go Even Higher
Does it cost you hundreds of dollars just to get to work each month? If it does, you are certainly not alone. There are millions of other Americans in the exact same boat. In recent years, the price of gas in the United States has gotten so outrageous that it has played a major factor in where millions of American families have decided to live and in what kind of vehicles they have decided to purchase. Many Americans that have very long commutes to work end up spending thousands of dollars on gas a year.
So when the price of gas starts going up to record levels, people like that really start to feel it. But the price of gas doesn’t just affect those that drive a lot. The truth is that the price of gas impacts each and every one of us. Almost everything that we buy has to be transported, and when the price of gasoline goes up the cost of shipping goods also rises. The U.S. economy has been structured around cheap oil. It was assumed that we would always be able to transport massive quantities of goods over vast distances very inexpensively. Once that paradigm totally breaks down, we are going to be in a huge amount of trouble. For the moment, the big concern is the stress that higher gas prices are going to put on the budgets of ordinary American families.

When’s the Pump Gonna Plunge??
OK, with oil now trading at just a bit over $81.00 a barrel after today, when is the bottom going to fall out of these gas prices? In New Hampshire today, I just paid $3.65/gallon today.
According to NYMEX.com, the price of RBOB is $2.78/gallon. It seems to me that gas should be somewhere around $3.35/gallon, unless I am missing something.
Anyone have any insight on this?

Gasoline prices will remain high through 2012, the U.S. Energy Information Administration says. The government’s prediction Tuesday assumes significant increases in global oil consumption, oil price increases to go along with that, and even stronger profits for oil companies in the short run.
But it does not mention the volatility that has beset oil markets in the last couple of weeks, driving prices to near record highs. The spikes — driven by massive amounts of investor money electronically moving in and out of the commodities markets — have convinced many motorists that somebody is gouging them.

As gasoline prices passed $4 per gallon in Connecticut, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Joseph D. Courtney joined President Obama in denouncing “speculators” and urging investigation of manipulation in the oil market. There are a few problems with this.
First is that such investigations have been undertaken before, including investigations by Blumenthal himself during his 20 years as Connecticut’s attorney general, and they never found anything more than the OPEC oil producer cartel’s public but uneven efforts to support the oil price.
Anti-competitive as its activity is, OPEC’s formation a half century ago was only a defensive response to the rigging of the currency markets by Western central banks and particularly by the U.S. Treasury Department and Federal Reserve, which were manipulating the value of the world reserve currency, the dollar, the international means of payment for oil, long before OPEC began to try to manipulate the oil price.
The second problem is that there are always speculators in all major markets.

In state after state, stunned drivers are pulling into gas stations advertising $4-per-gallon gas. Five states already have record-high gas prices, and another 22 states are within 15 cents of record prices. Economists say that prices may dip to around $3.25 later this year, but that everyone should start getting used to seeing a new digit on gas station price boards.
The U.S. Department of Energy reported late Monday that gasoline prices at the pump averaged $3.96 a gallon nationwide, up a little over 8 cents from a week ago.
“Nationally, gasoline prices have been above $4 for the last week or so,” Jamie Webster, a senior manager with PFC Energy, told ABC News. “I would anticipate that staying above $4 a gallon for gasoline, the national average, is probably going to be the case through Memorial Day, and probably a few weeks after that.”

So why no public outcry on the rising price of gasoline?

Not like the days when gas was in the mid $2.50′s and George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were getting hammered by the media for high gas prices and making their rich oil buddies richer. What is going on? Are we content with having massive untapped oil reserves in the U.S., and yet being held hostage to the Middle East and Venezuela? Are Americans content with not being in control of our own oil destiny? Have we turned into a bunch of sheep? Maybe someone can explain.

Oil Continues Climb In Line With Lindsey Williams’ Prediction
On December 16, Lindsey Williams told Alex Jones the price of crude oil will soon hit $15-200 per barrel and this would translate into gas prices in the range of $4-5 per gallon. Williams, an ordained Baptist minister who went to Alaska in 1971 as a missionary, was told about the price increase by insiders in the oil industry he had befriended.
