Analysts expect gas prices to decrease or remain mostly flat not only in 2014, but for years to come. Nonetheless, drivers in some states will see higher prices at the pump, starting January 1.

Gas prices may not have seemed all that cheap in 2013. But in fact, prices for the year as a whole were less expensive than they have been. According to AAA’s year-end report, American drivers paid $3.49 per gallon of regular, on average for 2013. That’s the cheapest per-gallon average since 2010; the national average was just above $3.50 in 2011 and hit $3.60 per gallon in 2012. Even so, 2013 stands as the third most expensive year for gasoline…

Reports of gas shortages along the high-demand west and east coasts may be fleeting – although deeply concerning – but they highlight a problem that’s expected to persist in the U.S.: our refineries are getting old. Given that a new refinery has not been built since 1976, commodities desks on Wall Street are bracing for more refinery outages and fires just as the nation needs to gear up for the busy winter heating season.

The Commerce Department said consumer spending increased 0.5 percent after an unrevised 0.4 percent gain in July. Last month’s rise was in line with economists’ expectations. Gas spike hits drivers (Obama’s fault)

As the summer driving season comes to an end, motorists who were hoping gas prices would fall are instead getting hit with a big jump, especially in the Northeast.

The average price of a gallon of regular gas increased 1.5 cents nationally for the second straight day, taking it to $3.86 in AAA’s latest reading Wednesday. The back-to-back price moves follow what had been a lull in gas price activity after an August run-up in prices caused by Gulf Coast refinery disruptions as Hurricane Isaacapproached.

Rapidly rising gas prices at the pump have turned up the heat on Barack Obama. Interestingly, the Administration that just three years ago said it was committed to policies that would cause energy prices to “skyrocket” and get our gas prices “to the levels in Europe,” now says there isn’t much they can do about rising costs to consumers.

One of the many falsehoods that the President and his anti-fossil fuel allies like to perpetuate is that the U.S. is about run out of reserves. “But you and I both know that with only 2% of the world’s oil reserve, we can’t just drill our way to lower gas prices – not when we consume 20% of the world’s oil,” Obama said yet again in his weekly radio address last Saturday. He repeatedly makes this less-than-truthful claim to obsessively press his anti-oil and gas agenda and justify wasting billions on green energy fantasies.

President Obama has serious energy problems — ranging from high gasoline prices, which torment consumers and affect the lifestyle of American families; to Solyndra and the like, where green-energy initiatives have failed to the point where they are not just failures but introduce questions of cover-up and deception within the administration.

Obama must also deal with division among Democrats with regard to drilling and doing something affirmative to bring down gasoline prices. No one’s talking about it yet, but Obama also appears to be fulfilling his campaign promise to drive up home power bills by aggressively regulating America’s industries that produce electricity.

It will be difficult for Obama to escape his positions, which are heavily rooted in ideology.

To meet the Obama administration’s targets for increasing fuel taxes, researchers say that Americans will have to pay $7 for a gallon of gasoline; about 17 percent more than drivers in green-conscious and generally highly taxed Sweden.

In their study, researchers at Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs devised several combinations of tax increases to address 70 percent of the oil used in the United States. The combinations were selected to match fuel consumption reduction targets. Most of their models assumed an economy-wide carbon dioxide tax starting at $30 a ton in 2010 and escalating to $60 a ton in 2030. In some cases researchers also factored in tax credits for electric and hybrid vehicles, taxes on fuel or both.

Fear of Iran is inflating gas prices

February 23, 2012 5 comments

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Tensions with Iran are adding at least 30 cents to a gallon of gasoline in the United States, and experts say gas prices have only just begun to rise.

Gasoline prices have surged over 10% in the last two months, largely tracking the runup in oil prices, which have increased by a similar amount and are now at a 9-month high.

Several factors have caused oil prices to rise, including the sense that the economy is improving and supply disruptions in a handful of minor oil producing nations.

But the biggest factor by far, say analysts, is fear that tensions with Iran will lead to an all-out war that causes a disruption in oil supplies.

“The market right now is fairly well supplied,” said John Kingston, director of oil, at the analytics firm Platts. “You’ve just got a significant fear factor that things could get worse.”

Gasoline prices could soar as high as $7 a gallon this summer thanks to supply threats stemming from Middle East unrest as well as OPEC policy, says real estate mogul Donald Trump.

Iran has already cut off supply to France and to the U.K. to protest sanctions from the west, who accuse Tehran of developing a nuclear weapons program.

U.S. military officials have said they feel they can ration with Iran, although fears are growing that Israel may consider a unilateral strike on Iran anyway, which is sending crude oil skyrocketing.

Prison Planet.com » The Price Of Gas Is Outrageous – And It Is Going To Go Even Higher

February 20, 2012 1 comment

Does it cost you hundreds of dollars just to get to work each month? If it does, you are certainly not alone. There are millions of other Americans in the exact same boat. In recent years, the price of gas in the United States has gotten so outrageous that it has played a major factor in where millions of American families have decided to live and in what kind of vehicles they have decided to purchase. Many Americans that have very long commutes to work end up spending thousands of dollars on gas a year.

So when the price of gas starts going up to record levels, people like that really start to feel it. But the price of gas doesn’t just affect those that drive a lot. The truth is that the price of gas impacts each and every one of us. Almost everything that we buy has to be transported, and when the price of gasoline goes up the cost of shipping goods also rises. The U.S. economy has been structured around cheap oil. It was assumed that we would always be able to transport massive quantities of goods over vast distances very inexpensively. Once that paradigm totally breaks down, we are going to be in a huge amount of trouble. For the moment, the big concern is the stress that higher gas prices are going to put on the budgets of ordinary American families.

When’s the Pump Gonna Plunge??

OK, with oil now trading at just a bit over $81.00 a barrel after today, when is the bottom going to fall out of these gas prices? In New Hampshire today, I just paid $3.65/gallon today.

According to NYMEX.com, the price of RBOB is $2.78/gallon. It seems to me that gas should be somewhere around $3.35/gallon, unless I am missing something.

Anyone have any insight on this?

Gasoline prices will remain high through 2012, the U.S. Energy Information Administration says. The government’s prediction Tuesday assumes significant increases in global oil consumption, oil price increases to go along with that, and even stronger profits for oil companies in the short run.

But it does not mention the volatility that has beset oil markets in the last couple of weeks, driving prices to near record highs. The spikes — driven by massive amounts of investor money electronically moving in and out of the commodities markets — have convinced many motorists that somebody is gouging them.

As gasoline prices passed $4 per gallon in Connecticut, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Joseph D. Courtney joined President Obama in denouncing “speculators” and urging investigation of manipulation in the oil market. There are a few problems with this.

First is that such investigations have been undertaken before, including investigations by Blumenthal himself during his 20 years as Connecticut’s attorney general, and they never found anything more than the OPEC oil producer cartel’s public but uneven efforts to support the oil price.

Anti-competitive as its activity is, OPEC’s formation a half century ago was only a defensive response to the rigging of the currency markets by Western central banks and particularly by the U.S. Treasury Department and Federal Reserve, which were manipulating the value of the world reserve currency, the dollar, the international means of payment for oil, long before OPEC began to try to manipulate the oil price.

The second problem is that there are always speculators in all major markets.

Read what President Obama’s Secretary of Energy Steven Chu had to say about gas prices back in December:

In a sign of one major internal difference, Mr. Chu has called for gradually ramping up gasoline taxes over 15 years to coax consumers into buying more-efficient cars and living in neighborhoods closer to work.

“Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” Mr. Chu

the best route for raising gas prices for Chu is to increase taxes and then demonize the oil companies for *gasp* making a profit. And if you don’t think government makes enough in taxes on gasoline, look here:

Exxon makes an average of 2 cents per gallon in America, while government takes in an average of about 50 cents depending on your state.

Remember this the next time you fill up. Obama and his administration don’t want to lower costs, they want to raise them.

Why would President Obama want high gas prices? It’s a matter of ideology for him. He thinks it’s good for the environment for gas prices to be high. The higher gas prices are, the less you will drive.

Also, higher gas prices make his beloved “alternative fuels” more competitive. That is because these alternative fuels are inherently more expensive, and so can’t compete with cheaper gas.

Note this is not a prescription for easing the financial burden on working people. High gas prices make it more likely you will buy expensive “alternative fuels.” But either way, your wallet will still be drained.

In state after state, stunned drivers are pulling into gas stations advertising $4-per-gallon gas. Five states already have record-high gas prices, and another 22 states are within 15 cents of record prices. Economists say that prices may dip to around $3.25 later this year, but that everyone should start getting used to seeing a new digit on gas station price boards.

The U.S. Department of Energy reported late Monday that gasoline prices at the pump averaged $3.96 a gallon nationwide, up a little over 8 cents from a week ago.

“Nationally, gasoline prices have been above $4 for the last week or so,” Jamie Webster, a senior manager with PFC Energy, told ABC News. “I would anticipate that staying above $4 a gallon for gasoline, the national average, is probably going to be the case through Memorial Day, and probably a few weeks after that.”

Meanwhile, Obama says: ‘Let them buy smaller cars.’

It apparently didn’t occur to the president that people for whom it is a hardship to pay a dollar more a gallon for gasoline can’t afford to buy a new car.

The remark makes Mr. Obama sound clueless, or callous, or both, but most of the journalists who covered his visit to Gamesa Technology Corp. didn’t report this exchange…

Gas prices have doubled since Barack Obama became president. With wages stagnant, unemployment high and food prices rising at the fastest rate since the 1970s, this imposes real hardship on many Americans.

President “Necessarily Skyrocket” Obama Baffled by Rising Gas Prices

The same person who promised to bankrupt coal plants and cause electricity prices to “necessarily skyrocket” as a candidate would have us believe that he has nothing to do with Americans paying $4 or more a gallon at the gas pump now that he is President. According to Obama, it’s all a mystery to him.

Last week Obama feigned righteous anger towards “traders and speculators” whom he called responsible for our predicament. He promised to hunt down and prosecute any “manipulation in the oil markets”. In that case I guess Obama should arrest himself since no other individual on the planet is more responsible for rising gas prices than him.

His goal has always been to make energy less affordable. Ever since taking office Obama has worked relentlessly to demonize “dirty” fossil fuels and replace them with prohibitively expensive “green” energy.

Main Findings:

- Gas prices have risen almost $1-a-gallon since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, yet President Obama’s drilling moratorium and other anti-oil policies have barely been mentioned by the networks in that time span.

- Only 1 percent (3 out of 280) of oil price stories since the spill has made any connection between the administration’s anti-oil actions and the jump in gasoline prices.

President Obama to call for one-third cut to oil imports

March 30, 2011 Leave a comment

President Obama on Wednesday will call for a one-third cut in oil imports by 2020, part of a plan he says will reduce U.S. dependence on foreign petroleum.

With rising gasoline prices at home and political turmoil throughout the Middle East, Obama will seek in a speech at Georgetown University to rally Americans — and bickering lawmakers — behind a program that draws about half of that import cut from energy savings and about half from greater energy production, according to Obama aides who briefed reporters Tuesday.

Drilling Ban Fueling Obama’s Controlling Agenda

“Energy is the building block of our economy,” Palin wrote. “The President is purposely weakening that building block and weakening our economy.”I think Palin’s right. This isn’t about “experience,” “ineptitude” or “inaction.” Such excuses would explain failure to achieve a more or less conventional goal of, for lack of a better term, American greatness. That just isn’t what Obama has in mind. Otherwise, he’d be doing absolutely everything in his considerable presidential powers to bring American oil to market ASAP…………………….

Palin: Thank Obama for Higher Gasoline Prices

March 16, 2011 Leave a comment

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is one of many Republicans who blame President Barack Obama for higher gasoline prices, saying that’s exactly what his energy policy was meant to achieve, Politico reports.palin, gas, obama”The evidence of the President’s anti-drilling mentality and his culpability in the high gas prices hurting Americans is there for all to see,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page.

She cites Obama’s drilling moratorium, his proposed elimination of oil tax incentives in the 2012 budget and his regulatory policies as catalysts for higher gas prices.”This was no accident.

Through a process of what candidate Obama once called ‘gradual adjustment,’ American consumers have seen prices at the pump rise 67 percent since he took office,” Palin writes.Excerpt Read more at newsmax.com …

They look right into our eyes and lie

March 9, 2011 Leave a comment

The sharp rise in the pump price of gasoline may finally give us a clearer picture of the meaning of “hope and change.” It is abundantly obvious that Obama’s energy policy is to sit back, do nothing and “hope FOR change.”In spite of our terrible energy shortages, we can’t drill anywhere and we can’t mine coal anywhere. Obama even told the fools who voted for him this while campaigning. In January 2008, when there was still plenty of time to stop him, Obama said, “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it [my Cap and Trade plan] will bankrupt [you].”

“According to Barack Obama, high gas prices don’t really constitute a problem for Americans” ~ Obama: I’d like higher gas prices, just not so quickly” June 11, 2008. Flashback to the past

According to Barack Obama, high gas prices don’t really constitute a problem for Americans

He stated yesterday that the reason for our anger is the rapid increase in prices, not the prices themselves

Obama claimed that Americans would have accepted a “gradual adjustment” to the current cost:Obama wants higher gas prices? Do the rest of the Democrats feel the same way?

It certainly would explain why they continue to block domestic energy production in oil.

It would also explain the bloated Lieberman-Warner bill, which would have imposed a heavy regulatory bureaucracy on the energy industry, along with rationing that would have both driven up prices and held down supply.

Obama Wants Higher Gas Prices ~ “So the question becomes: Will the media ignoring the rise in gas prices be able to keep that from becoming a major factor in people’s minds over the economy and Obama’s role in it? “

March 5, 2011 1 comment

RUSH: As we pointed out yesterday, 15 stories, negative stories blaming Bush for the gasoline price rise in 2007 and 2008.

One story on Obama for every 15 Bush stories.

So the question becomes: Will the media ignoring the rise in gas prices be able to keep that from becoming a major factor in people’s minds over the economy and Obama’s role in it?

Remember, now, everything is focused on the reelection in 2012.

So why no public outcry on the rising price of gasoline?

Not like the days when gas was in the mid $2.50′s and George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were getting hammered by the media for high gas prices and making their rich oil buddies richer. What is going on? Are we content with having massive untapped oil reserves in the U.S., and yet being held hostage to the Middle East and Venezuela? Are Americans content with not being in control of our own oil destiny? Have we turned into a bunch of sheep? Maybe someone can explain.
