At one time, it was popular for people to reload their own ammunition. In fact, at one time in American History, it was necessary.
It seems like this might be a hot topic for some people so that they can get enough ammunition for target practice, etc.

Last Christmas many Dick’s customers were sent one mean lump of coal in the form of a gift certificate. All customers who pre-ordered a Troy Carbine from Dick’s for their Black Friday special had their orders cancelled and their money returned.
Following the Newtown shooting spree, Dick’s Sporting Goods changed their policy and stopped selling AR-pattern and other semi-automatic, magazine-fed rifles, even the guns they had already sold.

Diamondback Police Supply, the gun dealership that was to sell the AR-15 type rifle to Mark Kelly, Gabby Gifford’s Husband, has returned his money now that it has learned that he did not intend the rifle for personal use.

NEWTOWN, Conn –(Ammoland.com)- The latest Internet rumor has George Soros owning “most of the ammunition manufacturing companies and many arms manufacturers as well.”
It goes on to suggest that Soros and his few remaining competitors are selling new production only to the government, while the civilian market has been relegated to a fast-disappearing stock of old ammunition.
If you’re like me, you check the ammunition shelves in every retailer you visit, and we all have felt the sinking feeling of seeing nothing but empty shelves. The trend is especially acute at the “Big Box” stores where speculators check every day to see if new shipments have arrived overnight.
The gaps in the current ammunition supply are frustrating — but they are not a conspiracy.

There are several documented cases where armed citizens have stopped mass attacks by gunmen. Let me list a few: The Pearl, Mississippi school shooting was stopped by the vice principal Joel Myrick with a Colt .45, The Appalachian School shooting was stopped by two students with handguns. Both of the above incidents were stopped by the armed citizens threatening the shooter without firing.

The questions no one else seems to be asking…
Prison Planet.com » Guns vs. Drugs – The real cause of violent shooting sprees
Prison Planet.com » Two Aurora Shootings: One Widely Known; the Other Ignored (” Because the perpetrator was able to claim only one life before being killed himself by someone carrying a gun and acting in self-defense, it garnered relatively little publicity.”)
…..No doubt the president was unaware of the other, less-publicized lethal shooting that took place earlier in the year in Aurora, when there was only one victim, thanks to the quick thinking and action of a responsibly armed individual.
Aurora police spokesman Frank Fania asked rhetorically: “Who knows what would’ve happened if the [church member, an off-duty police officer] had not been there? It certainly could have been a lot worse.”
Prison Planet.com » Was the Batman movie shooting imitated from scene in 1986 comic?
The horrific shooting at the screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado late last night bears eerie similarities to a scene in the 1986 comic Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. In the comic, a crazed, gun-toting loner walks into a movie theater and begins shooting it up, killing three in the process. The passage concludes with the media blaming Batman for inspiring the shooting, though he is not involved in the incident at all.
One Nifty Little Gun: The new Ruger SR22
The SR22™ is lightweight (just 17.5 ounces) and perfect for just about anything – plinking, target shooting and even small game hunting.
Best of all, when field-tested by the top gun guys, the performance was flawless…..it would not, could not jam through hundreds of rounds of all kinds of ammo. This short video shows exactly how it comes from the shop or show.
It’s an excellent demo of all the features and how easy it is to breakdown for cleaning, maintenance, etc. It’s ambidextrous and comes with two grips which is a definite plus for those with smaller hands.
It’s highly recommended for performance, fit, feel and finish. The bottom line is that it’s fun to shoot, and will run reliably with a wide variety of ammunition.
‘Chicks with Guns’: Some 15 million US women pack heat
Pop quiz: Name one accessory that grandmothers, moms, girls, wealthy socialites, middle-class females and low-income women might be likely to own — and cherish — all across America.
If you answered “a gun,” you’d be correct.
Based on polling research and gun-sale statistics, an estimated 15 million to 20 million women in the United States own their own firearms. Dozens of those heat-packing women are documented in “Chicks with Guns,” a new book by photographer Lindsay McCrum that is sure to challenge almost anyone’s assumptions about gun ownership.
“Their numbers are really high but their profile is actually really low,” said McCrum, who spent three and a half years capturing artistic and arresting portraits of women with their weapons of choice.
“I was so surprised by the variety and breadth and diversity of these women with their weapons of choice.

In a way, commercials can tell you more about how we’ve changed than history books. The other day I came across the above 1960s TV commercial on YouTube; it’s for a toy set called the “Gung Ho Commando Outfit” by Marx. And it’s a perfect snapshot of the America that, sadly, no longer exists.
Despite this fact, watching it is hilarious. It is unabashedly politically incorrect, featuring a group of young boys running around playing war games, all decked out in the most authentic military gear a 10-year-old could imagine. It’s enough to make any suburban soccer mom’s head explode.
Every toy gun in the commercial looks (gasp!) realistic; there are no sissified colors, no orange plastic piece at the end of the barrel. Yet, in the times that it aired, you never heard of a child being shot after pointing one of these toy weapons at a policeman. You see, even when I was a boy in the 1970s, we were taught enough respect for elders to understand that a certain necessary wall existed between adults and children. You would never take the liberty of “playing” with an adult stranger in the street, whether he sported a badge or not. It never even entered our minds. As for policemen, they could assume that a child wouldn’t target them with a real gun. And it was a safe assumption……………..

Going out with a bang: The service that will turn your loved one into live ammunition
A bizarre new service that allows you to lock and load your loved one’s ashes is blowing up on the internet.

“Since Gov. Rick Scott signed SB 234 into law Friday, it’s been legal to show off your hardware — but just for a little bit.
Here’s the addition to Florida Statutes that bans openly carrying your weaponry:
It is not a violation of this section for a person licensed to carry a concealed firearm as provided in s. 790.06(1), and who is lawfully carrying a firearm in a concealed manner, to briefly and openly display the firearm to the ordinary sight of another person, unless the firearm is intentionally displayed in an angry or threatening manner, not in necessary self-defense.

THE MOSIN NAGANT: The Official Rifle of Arthur’s Hall!
The Mosin Nagant is truly a manly piece of hardware. Let’s discuss why.1: First, the Poison Maggot is a time proven design. Dating from 1891, all the bugs have been worked out. This assumes there were any bugs in the first place, which there were not. No one would dare to be less than optimal for the Tsars and Commissars.2: It’s very simple and robust. There are very few things that can go wrong with the Noisy Nagger. There isn’t even a bolt release — the trigger serves as that. The springs are heavy gauge, the mechanism basic steel, and the stock a solid piece of wood. Remember that the Russkies and the Commies figured that the bayonet was as important as the bullet. This means:3: Versatility. One can argue the benefits of the spear versus the club. Guess what? The Russian Gun-Club is both! And it shoots bullets! Why compromise when you can have all three?4: Physical fitness. The Rosined Nag is heavy. No real man would complain about this. In fact, he boasts of it. One has to be fit to carry it, and fit to aim it without shaking like a coward. Not to worry. The recoil will reseat that loose shoulder and save you the medical bills.5: Economical.
The Soviet Man Cannon is dirt cheap–$100-$200 in 2009 prices. You can typically buy 10 to 20 of them for the price of a modern rifle, and the ammo is about half the price, and has been in production for more than a century. One sacrifices rate of fire and accuracy, but that’s offset by the fact that an entire platoon of your friends now have guns.
Besides, your friends are men, so every shot counts, right? Who needs rate of fire. And any real man can hit through force of testosterone, without bothering with sights. Just imagine your enemy is a toilet, unzip and pull the trigger… so to speak. Flush him straight into a grave or outhouse. Or both.6: General manliness. The Tula Jackhammer has no prissy “Ergonomics” or “delicate triggers” or other crap.
It is a brutally simple tool. If you can’t pull the trigger, then do some more grip exercises, you pansy. Don’t like the recoil? Get a recoil pad, chew a handful of Vicodin, and see your doctor for some testosterone shots. The length of pull is too short? Wear a stout Russian overcoat and stop whining. And some earplugs, since you probably don’t want to hear the rest of the “Commie Chiropractor” community laughing at you.

THE CULTURE of VIOLENCE in the AMERICAN WEST MYTHS Vs. REALITY ~ By: Thomas J. DiLorenzo
THE CULTURE of VIOLENCE in the AMERICAN WEST
MYTHS Vs. REALITY
By: Thomas J. DiLorenzo
EXCERPT
The Real Cause of Violence in the American West
The real culture of violence in the American West of the latter half of the nineteenth century sprang from the U.S. government’s policies toward the Plains Indians.
It is untrue that white European settlers were always at war with Indians, as popular folklore contends. After all, Indians assisted the Pilgrims and celebrated the first Thanksgiving with them; John Smith married Pocahontas; a white man (mostly Scots, with some Cherokee), John Ross, was the chief of the Cherokees of Tennessee and North Carolina; and there was always a great deal of trade with Indians, as opposed to violence. As Jennifer Roback has written, “Europeans generally acknowledged that the Indians retained possessory rights to their lands.
More important, the English
recognized the advantage of being on friendly terms with the Indians. Trade with the Indians, especially the fur trade, was profitable. War was costly” (1992, 9). Trade and cooperation with the Indians were much more common than conflict and violence
during the first half of the nineteenth century…

What Are They Thinking? M1 Garand Importation Ban will affect CMP
Interesting take on the recent importation ban for “our protection”.
———————–
“One now arrives to the original article and the event that spurred this rambling conversation. The Washington Times published an editorial September 3rd entitled Government is blocking sale of historic weapons. Actually the title was more along the lines of “Obama’s Backdoor Gun Ban” which is what caused my original “gut clench”-almost toss to the spam file. Realistically there is no way 8 weeks before the Midterm election that the titular head of the Democratic Party is going to do any such controversial thing. Right now it is his focus to point out “Jobs. Jobs. Jobs.”- but again I digress.Contained within the article is a salient quote that I strongly believe should be discussed. The opening paragraph was designed to grab ones attention:President Obama is afraid of the M1 Garand, the U.S. rifle that helped win World War II, defeating Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. Administration officials earlier this year moved to block the government of South Korea from selling vintage U.S.-made M1 Garands and M1 carbines to eager stateside collectors.
The State Department confirmed to The Washington Times that it was considering “alternative options” to deal with the classic rifles. During the Clinton administration, such code words meant melting them down. The government in Seoul was told that this step was being taken for the protection of Americans.”

Hi-Point .45 ACP Carbine: Are Handgun Caliber Rifles the New Home Defense Shotgun?
Capt. John Raguso keeps threatening to send us a review of Kel Tec’s smokin’ SUB-2000 9mm carbine.
Today, Hi-Point Carbines drops the news that their long awaited .45 ACP rifle is ready to rock and roll. These handgun-caliber carbine may be gaining favor over the venerable 12-gauge as the weapon of choice for home defense. And for good reason.
In fact, here are four. . .1. Less recoil than a shotgunWhile home defense shotguns put an awful lot of lead downrange with a single trigger squeeze, shooters pay the price with a big ole’ wallop to their shoulder. That’s no big thing for big people who’re comfortable with firearms who may, in fact, like the kick. And in the heat of battle, who cares? But if a gun is formidable to fire i.e. painful, its owners are FAR less likely to practice. If they don’t, they will not be confident and accurate.Even in .45 ACP, handgun-caliber carbines have minimal recoil, relatively speaking.
The lower recoil makes the rifles far more attractive to women, teens and let’s be honest here small-framed men. They can also put a lot of lead downrange. BONUS! Quick mag changes are easier than reloading a shotgun.
