Hillary Clinton is clearly running for president in 2016, Huffington Post editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington said, but she’s overworking herself and needs to rest.
Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Huffington said the former secretary of state should have taken more time off before making two speeches this week. …
Huffington fears that Clinton is sending women a bad message; that the only way they can succeed is by driving themselves into the ground. …

Elisabeth Hasselbeck is being fired from ABC’s “The View” because market researchers found that her conservative views were out of touch with the show’s audience, according to a report in Us Weekly.
The magazine, citing unnamed sources, reported Friday that Hasselbeck will be leaving the show along with Joy Behar, an outspoken far-left liberal who quit the show by choice.
“The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right-wing,” a show insider whose name was not reported told UsMagazine.com about Hasselbeck Friday. “People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed.”
SHAMEFUL MEDIA SPINS, SHILLS AND RACE-BAITS THE GOP CONVENTION
Last night, with the help of my colleagues Tony Lee and Warner Todd Huston, we tried our best to cover the corrupt media’s worst moments during their coverage of last night’s GOPconvention. With an eye on cable, the broadcast networks, Twitter, and the Web, in real-time we documented what we witnessed and you can read it all below.
What it boiled down to, though, was exactly what you would expect from a hopelessly corrupt institution determined to drag a failed president over the finish line: Unconscionable race-baiting, cynicism, and the use of Hurricane Isaac to selectively ignore some of the conventions best moments for the GOP. For instance, CNN refused to broadcast speeches given by Republican governors in crucial swing states. You’ll also read how ABC News released a hit poll just as Ann Romney took the stage and NBC’s Brian Williams opened the night with RAPE!
Should Libertarians Accept Social Security? by Laurence M. Vance
In his recent appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Representative Ron Paul was asked by Sam Stein of the Huffington Post whether he was going to set a good example for younger Americans and opt out of Social Security.

Since last month, when EFF released a list of the sixty-odd public agencies that have already received from the FAA approval to fly domestic drones, the issue of drone surveillance has reached front and center in many Americans’ mind. Yet barely any information is known about what law enforcement agencies plan to do with these unmanned flying vehicles. So we want your help to gather this information into one place.

Daily Bell: Give us some background on yourself.
Robin Koerner: I am in my mid-30s and born in south of England. I studied physics and philosophy at Peterhouse, Cambridge University and have traveled quite extensively. I’m now a permanent resident of the USA (living in Seattle), with the intention of becoming a citizen. I am also the founder and publisher of Watching America.com and probably best known in the USA today for coining the expression “Blue Republican” to refer to those former non-Republicans of more liberal sensibility who are switching to the Republican party specifically to support Ron Paul.

DHS Stonewalls Congress on Social Media Spying (“Homeland Security reps refuse to name superiors who ordered federal agency to analyze online dissent”)
Homeland Security reps refuse to name superiors who ordered federal agency to analyze online dissent
(PaulWatson) – Representatives from the Department of Homeland Security speaking today at a Congressional hearing regarding the federal agency’s monitoring of social media networks and news websites, including the Drudge Report, were evasive about who ordered them to look for reports or comments that “reflect adversely on the U.S. government and the DHS.”
The hearing was prompted as a result of the Electronic Privacy Information Center obtaining 300 documents through a Freedom of Information Act request which detailed how DHS had hired an outside contractor, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, to monitor social media outlets along with a list of websites, on a “24/7/365 basis,” in order to uncover “any media reports that reflect adversely on the U.S. Government and the Department of Homeland Security.”
The list of websites the DHS requested be monitored for such content included the Drudge Report, Facebook, Twitter, Huffington Post, and GoogleBlogSearch, a service that allows millions of individual blogs to be searched for keywords.
Prison Planet.com » Don’t Be Fooled: The Horrible Anti-Internet Bill Is NOT Being Shelved Until Next Year
The Committee Members Who Support SOPA Sneakily Changed the Hearing Date to December 21st, Trying to Trick the American People Into Thinking It Was Over Until After the Holidays So We Won’t Fight Back!
Saturday, December 17, 2011
News reports initially said that the despicable anti-Internet bill – SOPA – has been delayed until next year. As Huffington Post notes:
After two days of debate, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) abruptly halted a key hearing on the Stop Online Piracy Act, postponing a Committee vote on the bill until 2012. The move marks a win for hordes of internet activists who oppose the bill, but gives lawmakers another opportunity to juice deep-pocketed corporations for campaign contributions.
Prison Planet.com » The U.S. Hands the Terrorists a Big Win
Top counter-terrorism officials have said for years that indefinite detention increases terrorism.
As Huffington Post notes today, the indefinite detention bill passed by the Senate last week hands the terrorists a big win:
A measure that Congress will likely pass this week allowing indefinite detentions of Americans by the U.S. military will mark a significant loss in the war on terrorism, says a retired admiral who ran the Navy legal system.

To Ret. Adm. John Hutson, who was Judge Advocate General of the Navy from 1997 to 2000 and is dean emeritus of the University of New Hampshire School of Law, the idea that the United States is chipping away at one of its fundamental principles of civilian law enforcement is a win for terrorists.
“The enemy is just laughing over this, because they will have gotten another victory,” Hutson told The Huffington Post. “There’ll be one more victory. There won’t be any bloodshed or immediate bloodshed, there’s not a big explosion, except in a metaphorical sense, but it is a victory nonetheless for the enemy. And it’s a self-inflicted wound.”

This is just the latest in a series of criminal acts of unprovoked police violence against peaceful Occupy protesters. See this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this.
As I noted earlier today, the problem is the militarization of U.S. police forces:
Journalists from across the spectrum have documented the militarization of police forces in the United States, including CNN, Huffington Post, Forbes, Esquire, The Atlantic, Salon, and the Cato Institute.
***
But the militarization of police started long before 9/11 … in the 1980s.

The Twenty-Five Most Valuable Blogs In America – 2011
After years in the shadows of major media sites, blogs have come into their own. They now compete directly with the most well-funded online content sites, many of which are owned by the largest media companies. With the rise of several blogs, which are extremely successful both financially and editorially, the mainstream content corporations have tried to either flank or buy them. Many mainstream companies like The New York Times have started dozens of blogs of their own.

Open challenge to new White House propaganda czar: Let’s talk ‘Gunwalker’:
““The Obama administration has created and staffed a new position tucked inside their communications shop for helping coordinate rapid response to unfavorable stories and fostering and improving relations with the progressive online community,” The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein writes.
‘’This week, Jesse Lee will move from the new media department into a role in the communications department as Director of Progressive Media & Online Response,’ read an internal memo from Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, provided to The Huffington Post,’” Stein explains.
“Lee is a personal friend of Stein,” HuffPo discloses.
Well, that explains the puff piece.
Just so we’re clear: Your tax dollars are going to fund a propaganda effort to give talking points to the mainstream media.
Wait—that’s not fair. This specifically says he’s dealing with “the progressive online community.”
Sorry. With “Tingles” claiming Obama is the new Kennedy and Bill Clinton is the voice of God, it’s hard to keep the two compartmentalized.
And about that “progressive community”—isn’t the Congressional Progressive Caucus closely aligned with subversives like the Democratic Socialists of America, itself an affiliate of Socialist International?”

Palin Refuses to Repudiate Beck [Whining Lefty Alert]
David Brock, the C.E.O. of the liberal group Media Matters, said in an interview with the Caucus that he was “disappointed” with Sarah Palin’s refusal to repudiate the Fox News host Glenn Beck.Mr. Brock made that request this week in an article on Huffington Post and in an interview on MSNBC. Mr. Brock said Ms. Palin, the former vice presidential nominee and former Alaska governor, could help stop what he said was Mr. Beck’s incitement of violence on his show.
Instead, Ms. Palin called Mr. Beck during his radio show this morning and the pair mocked Mr. Brock’s request. “I stand with you, Glenn,” Ms. Palin told Mr. Beck during a phone call that was played on the air.In an interview later, Mr. Brock said that he was “disappointed in the answer. I actually thought when I left the office last night that there was a serious chance she would address this in a serious way.”In a separate statement, Mr. Brock said Ms. Palin “now associates herself with acts of violence and the insane conspiracy theories and hate speech behind them.”A representative for Mr. Beck declined to comment.

Peter DeFazio D: investigate impeachment of Chief Justice John Roberts.
With Democrats increasingly outraged over the Supreme Court’s Citizen United decision that allowed unlimited corporate spending in elections — a change conservatives have been more successful at taking advantage of — a Democratic congressman is raising the prospect of impeaching the Supreme Court’s chief justice over the issue.
“I mean, the Supreme Court has done a tremendous disservice to the United States of America,” Rep. Peter DeFazio D-Ore. told The Huffington Post on Tuesday. “They have done more to undermine our democracy with their Citizens United decision than all of the Republican operatives in the world in this campaign. They’ve opened the floodgates, and personally, I’m investigating articles of impeachment against Justice Roberts for perjuring during his Senate hearings, where he said he wouldn’t be a judicial activist, and he wouldn’t overturn precedents.
“In his 2005 confirmation hearings, Roberts famously said, “Judges and justices are servants of the law, not the other way around. Judges are like umpires. Umpires don’t make the rules; they apply them. The role of an umpire and a judge is critical. They make sure everybody plays by the rules. But it is a limited role. Nobody ever went to a ball game to see the umpire.”According to DeFazio, Roberts hasn’t stood by his own doctrine. He pointed to former Justice John Paul Stevens’s dissent in the case, in which he said the Citizens United case was not properly brought before the Supreme Court. “This procedure is unusual and inadvisable for a court,” Stevens said of the process.
“Our colleagues’ suggestion that ‘we are asked to reconsider Austin and, in effect, McConnell,” ante, at 1, would be more accurate if rephrased to state that ‘we have asked ourselves’ to reconsider those cases.”

The Big Wall Street Banks Have Found A New Way To Strangle The American People: Predatory Property Tax Collection
It turns out that the big Wall Street banks have found a dirty new way to make loads of cash from U.S. homeowners, and they really, really don’t want to talk about it. So what is this dirty new business? America’s biggest financial institutions have become property tax collectors, and it is extremely lucrative. From coast to coast, the big Wall Street banks are buying up thousands upon thousands of tax liens and are making a killing by socking distressed homeowners with predatory interest, outrageous penalties and almost unbelievable legal fees.
In some areas, the big banks are able to foreclose on these homes in as little as six months. The elderly and the poor are the most common targets of these practices. An absolutely brilliant expose in the Huffington Post has brought these issues to light, and it is creating quite a controversy in the financial world. The big banks are doing nothing illegal here. Local governments are offering to sell thousands of tax liens and somebody is going to end up buying them. But something seems extremely unsavory about the big Wall Street banks capitalizing on the economic downturn that they were so instrumental in causing in such a predatory manner. Today, millions of American families are barely hanging on to their homes by their fingernails.
Millions are out of work and millions of others are barely making enough to put food on the table. Meanwhile, property taxes have absolutely soared in most areas of the nation over the past decade. Many Americans are finding that when that time rolls around they simply do not have a big chunk of extra money to pay a property tax bill.
