I think the current controversy over immigration reform points to a larger issue in America today, which is that Americans are essentially split on the very idea of what America is and should be.

It used to be that Americans mostly agreed that in order to attain citizenship, immigrants had to not only come to this country legally but also demonstrate, after training and study in the American system, that they believed in the unique United States Constitution and embraced what it means to be an American.
Though that still occurs in the naturalization process, we seem to have abandoned it altogether in connection with the immigration debate.

Astoundingly, no one in Congress sees the final folly, the eventual outcome, the end result and the catastrophic final curtain. Why don’t they see what I see? Why don’t the American people understand it like I recognize it? How can so many Americans be so completely out of touch with the final result of an amnesty?

This “immigration bill” (why not call it what it is a so-called attempt to deal with ILLEGAL immigration) not just an immigration plan – why do they leave the WORD illegal out – supposedly has some key components:
1.) Penalties. 2.) Back to the end of the line. 3.) Illegals cannot get gov’t handouts (food stamps, etc). I thought that for all these years they weren’t eligible, weren’t receiving them an/or they never did in the first place… 4.) An E-Verify system.

On his radio show last week, Geraldo Rivera applauded the Associated Press’ decision to drop the term “illegal immigrant” from its official style guidelines and then decreed that no one should use the phrase any longer, seeing as how he believes it is akin to saying “negro” to describe a black person.

“You can never use the expression ‘illegal alien’ again,” the radio host said to his colleague Bill O’Reilly. “It is a pejorative. It’s like saying ‘negro’ or ‘homosexual.’ It is a loaded term that doesn’t accurately describe.”
“Why don’t you just give me a list of things I can say?” O’Reilly pushed back.
“Illegal aliens” and “Bible thumping” are two things you cannot say, Rivera quipped in reference to his Fox’s colleague’s controversial remarks about the religious opponents of gay marriage.

In another break from Republican Party orthodoxy, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has said that America’s illegal immigrants should be integrated into the tax system in a program that would eventually lead to the possibility of citizenship.
Speaking about immigration issues at the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Paul said “Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport” the millions of illegal immigrants living in the United States en masse.
“Prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into becoming and being taxpaying members of society,” the Tea Party leader and suspected 2016 presidential candidate added.

TUCSON — The release of more than 300 people from immigration detention centers in Arizona — part of a mass release across the nation in anticipation of looming federal budget cuts — sparked outrage among activists on both sides of the political aisle.
Anti-illegal immigration groups and others accused the Obama administration of playing politics, while an immigrant rights group said the incident showed the administration had detained people they shouldn’t have in the first place.

Washington – The senior Homeland Security Department official in charge of arresting and deporting illegal immigrants announced his resignation the same day the agency said that hundreds of people facing deportation had been released from immigration jails due to looming budget cuts, according to a resignation letter obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.

Whenever the federal government decides to reform something we can be fairly sure that the problem is about to get worse, especially if they call the plan bi-partisan. The bi-partisan immigration reform proposal launched last week in the US Senate will be no different.
The new plan, introduced by Sens. McCain and Schumer, would provide a path to citizenship for many of those in the United States illegally. This would only begin after the borders are deemed secure and applicants have paid fees for their illegal entry. They must also pay back taxes on their earnings while working here without government permission. Those on a path to citizenship would be subject to background checks and would be monitored while in the US.

…..Since 1965, our U.S. Government, led by forever Senator Teddy Kennedy, passed the Immigration Reform Act, which bumped annual immigration from 100,000 to 1.2 to 1.5 million annually from third world countries. As the U.S. filled up with poverty-prone citizens, President Lyndon Baines Johnson passed the Great Society Act that handed out welfare checks, housing, free lunches and food stamps like candy on Halloween to millions of new-comers. Our national debt exceeded $1.1 trillion by the end of his term.

Those Great Society welfare queens churned out babies faster than a Ford assembly line. Each new baby gave the ‘poor’ mother a car payment, new TV, fashionable clothing, dish washer and unlimited credit. One minority woman in Detroit, Michigan, where I worked in the 70s, 80s and 90s, pumped out 24 children with more than a dozen fathers. Her first three girls birthed their own babies by age 15. The woman and her children became the first wave of ‘cyclical welfare’ poverty in America. Score one for the idealistic zeal of democrats!

As you can imagine, thousands of readers respond to my commentaries because they can see this immigration onslaught affecting their own communities. They see its effects in their stores with shop lifting and homes with burglaries, their schools with dramatic flunk out rates and violence, hospitals with anchor babies by the tens of thousands. They see churches turning from English to Spanish language along with radio stations and television stations serving millions of Spanish speakers. We now have Arabic language TV stationsin Islamic strongholds like Detroit.

Governments have never been known to reform themselves and the current debate over immigration reform is no different than the notion that government will cut spending and clip its own wings. By reform, D.C. politicians mean, to make that which is currently illegal, legal.
Lawmakers have been stopped from passing amnesty for millions of illegal aliens living in America. But they have not been forced to enforce our immigration and naturalization laws and even when Border States attempt to enforce those laws, the federal government sues the state on behalf of illegal immigrants.
In a current piece issued by the Census Bureau, titled Minorities now surpass whites in US births, Bureau racial statistics chief Roderick Harrison states – “This is an important landmark.” – “This generation is growing up much more accustomed to diversity than its elders.”
Of course, most of those “minorities” are in the United States illegally. This is of no great concern to Harrison. But what does concern Harrison is this – “We remain in a dangerous period where those appealing to anti-immigration elements are fueling a divisiveness and hostility that might take decades to overcome,” Harrison said.
For several years now, Americans have been wrongly accused of being “anti-immigration” just because they want their immigration and naturalization laws to be enforced. But calling someone anti-immigration because they oppose illegal immigration is akin to calling them anti-banking because they oppose bank robbery.
Like many sniveling liberals today, Harrison completely ignores the fact that we are talking about criminals here, people who have broken into our country illegally and make a career out of flouting our laws and undermining American sovereignty and security. Harrison is not at all concerned with these facts, he is instead worried about Americans “hostility” towards illegal invaders, as if Americans oppose immigration altogether.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department on Thursday urged the Supreme Court to stay out of a lawsuit involving Arizona’s immigration law, saying lower courts properly blocked tough provisions targeting illegal immigrants.
The state law is a challenge to federal policy and is designed to establish Arizona’s own immigration policy, the department’s solicitor general said in a filing with the justices. Arizona says the law is an effort to cooperate with the federal government.

Summary: This option is the bill H.R. 4437 sponsored by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner that passed the House of Representatives in 2005. This bill would have been so effective in combating illegal immigration that some 1 million illegal aliens marched in cities around the United States on May 1, 2006 to protest it.
The Congressional Budget Office estimated the bill would cost $1.9 billion over the 5 years 2006-2010, which we extrapolate out to the year 2056 using a linear model to account for cost increases.

As recently stated by German Chancellor Merkle, French President Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Cameron, “multiculturalism,” is an abject failure.
Unless a country is allowed to maintain its own identity, history and culture while allowing people to integrate, it leads to ethnic strife and death. Insisting that those joining their community share the same language and accept the culture of their new homes, does not mean the emigrants may not maintain their own culture in their personal dealings. It does not, in any way, denigrate the emigrants culture.

Blue State liberals are not like us; they just aren’t «Coach is Right
The Left is painting itself into a corner that is accelerating the destruction of its fortresses across the country. The red ink soaked Democrats who control Illinois New York California and Massachusetts are seemingly doing everything they can to drive their states into bankruptcy.
While Red States such as Alabama Georgia and Arizona have busied themselves passing firm anti-illegal alien laws, America’s Bluest States are busy committing social and financial suicide and taking their dwindling number of American patriots with them.
To make it harder for the police to protect their citizens from criminal illegal aliens all four of these Blue states have withdrawn from participation in the federal “Secure Communities” program which helps local law enforcers identify and deport illegal alien felons in their custody.
As if to underscore how counterproductive pulling out of this program is, at about the same time the Democrats in these states were sabotaging efforts to protect their citizens from foreign criminals, U.S. Immigration and Customs officials were announcing the arrest of some 2400 criminal who are illegally in our country.

On Thursday, Ron Paul announced he would form an exploratory committee for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. This is about as unexpected as spring snow melt.
I served with Ron Paul in Congress for 10 years. He was a member of my Immigration Reform Caucus, and I consider him a friend. We didn’t see eye to eye on every issue, but he was generally an ally in the fight against illegal immigration. Unfortunately, it appears that Paul’s views on immigration have now shifted into the pro-amnesty camp.

In a word, no.
No nation can be successful if it allows unbridled immigration.
Here’s the basic fact folks: The land upon which this nation rests belongs to you and I as citizens. That is, the “United States“, as a collective, belongs to the citizens of the country.
Each and every person who we allow to come into this nation adds to the “divisor” of people that have an indivisible claim on the resources of this nation.
