Perils of a politically correct pentagon

One of the core functions of government is to defend the nation from all enemies, foreign and domestic — that’s part of the oath of enlistment that all service personnel take. But only a flinty, clear-eyed — and politically incorrect — assessment of all threats can enable the military can do its job.
Today, however, the brass at the Pentagon seems hell-bent on turning the world’s most powerful military into an arm of the PC Police, a fresh field for “politically correct” bureaucrats on which to push their morally blind relativism.

During the funeral for two Santa Cruz Police Officers, Former Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, did something unexpected.
He dove into the suspect’s background. “We do know that he had a history of sexual violence both in and out of the military, and for whatever reason, people somehow always look the other way,” Panetta said.
Jeremy Goulet was accused of raping two military officers in 2006, while in the army, but a plea bargain allowed him to walk away, with a less than honorable discharge. “At some point, somebody pays a price,” Panetta said.
While the former Secretary of Defense never said it outright, many believe Panetta implied that dismissed case, so many years ago, had a ripple effect that may have ultimately led to the death of the two Santa Cruz police officers last Tuesday.

The progressive revamping of the military has gotten another boost. Outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has offered an array of new benefits to the same-sex partners of service members, both active and retired, whether they are married or not.

They include child care services, member-designated hospital visits, and the issuance of military ID cards to same-sex partners, granting them access to on-base commissaries, movie theaters and gyms.
“Taking care of our service members and honoring the sacrifices of all military families are two core values of this nation. Extending these benefits is an appropriate next step under current law to ensure that all service members receive equal support for what they do to protect this nation,” said Panetta in a statement announcing the development. Yet all service members are not receiving equal support: unmarried heterosexual partners and their families are not getting these benefits.

Every leader in the Pentagon has been warning for more than a year that if sequestration comes to pass the impact to the military will be severe. But the armed services’ most senior officers now are telling Congress those impacts are not a distant prospect — they could be looking at a “hollowed-out” force within a matter of months after the cuts are triggered.
17% of male Marines say they’ll leave if women move into combat positions
A Marine Corps survey shows 17 percent of male Marine respondents say they would likely leave the Corps if women move into combat positions.
The survey says that number jumps to 22 percent if women are assigned involuntarily to those jobs.
Results of the survey of 53,000 Marines were released to The Associated Press on Friday.

The United States Armed Forces Unconditionally Surrenders To The ACLU
When I heard the inevitable, that Obama, Leon Panetta, and General Dempsey finally caved into the ACLU, which sued to push women into hot combat zones, I thought back to my tour in Vietnam, when we would fly our Marine helicopters into Landing Zones which were north of the DMZ, and inhabited by Marine grunts – for months at a time.
The guys were, quite remarkably, in good spirit, but hadn’t bathed, of course, for weeks or more, and many people would say they were living like animals in an outpost far, far out there in the boonies of, literally, no man’s land.
No place for women, no matter how manly, and no place especially for someone half-way pretty. I was medevaced out of Nam in 1970, and witnessed the wounded fighting men who were shot-up while in the various hospitals.
Surviving War, Falling to Suicide
Suffering an IED blast on the battlefield is most certainly a traumatic event, especially when accompanied by witnessing the death or injury of other service members or civilians. Untangling the physical from the mental damage is never easy.
But doctors and veterans’ advocates feel that they are running out of time, given the skyrocketing rates of suicide among active-duty soldiers and veterans. According to the most recent statistics, Army and Navy suicides are at a record high: 2012 was the worst year for self-inflicted deaths since the military began tracking them in 2001. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta last summer called the situation an “epidemic” — with approximately 3,000 military suicides on record since 9/11.

The US military is being used to protect civilian events, like the 2012 Democratic and Republican Party National Conventions in Tampa, Florida and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Republicans blast Pentagon for allowing military uniforms in gay pride parade
Republican lawmakers are blasting the Pentagon‘s decision to allow troops to march in uniform at a San Diego gay pride parade last week.
Two senior Republicans on the House and Senate Armed Services committees said Tuesday that the Pentagon was out of line to grant the one-time exemption that allowed military uniforms in the parade.
Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) said the Pentagon made a “dangerous exception” to its policy of not allowing military uniforms in parades. In a statement, the Armed Forces Readiness subcommittee chairman said that the decision was a made to advance the Obama administration’s social agenda.
“I am calling on the DOD to halt these dangerous exceptions to policy for political purposes. This decision was an outrageous and blatantly political determination issued solely to advance this Administration’s social agenda,” Forbes said in a statement Tuesday.
“Sadly, this is yet another violation in what has become a pattern of this Administration’s assault on the longstanding history of the Department of Defense as a nonpolitical organization,” he said.
Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) wrote a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta asking for an explanation behind making the exemption in light of the military’s “unambiguous regulations” to preserve its apolitical stance.

Prison Planet.com » Panetta Says U.S. Now Ready to Attack Iran
On Sunday U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said the United States is “ready from a military perspective’’ to attack Iran under the guise of preventing it from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Panetta makes his comment at 14:45.
Panetta’s comments arrive after the U.S. and members of the United Nations Security Council held talks in Baghdad on Iran’s supposed nuclear threat.
“I think it was a complete failure, in terms of content,” an Iranian diplomat told McClatchy on Friday. “The more they talk, the worse it gets.”
Despite Iran’s willingness to negotiate, a senior U.S. official has stated that harsher sanctions will be imposed on the Islamic Republic. The U.S. and Israel believe Iran is engaging in the talks – a third one will be held in Moscow next month – in order to buy time for its nuclear program.
Marines to offer early retirement, with benefits
SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — The Marine Corps soon will offer early retirement with benefits to some troops as part of force-shaping efforts aimed at cutting 20,000 jobs from the rolls over the next four years, Corps officials said this week.
Clinton, military leaders plead for sea treaty
WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and military leaders implored conservative Republicans on Wednesday to approve a long-spurned high seas treaty, saying it would create jobs, open a new path to oil, gas and other resources and bolster national security.
Clinton, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made a rare joint appearance before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to make the case for the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea. The United States is the only major nation that has refused to sign the treaty, which was concluded in 1982 and been in force since 1994.
But the committee chairman announced at the start of the hearing that he would not push for a Senate vote before the November elections. Still, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., insisted that approval of the treaty is necessary because the United States “has lived by the rules, but we don’t shape the rules.”

When asked by reporters if U.S. troops would be sent to Yemen, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta responded, “There’s no consideration of that. Our operations now are directed with the Yemenese going after al-Qaida.”
“No consideration” is exactly the type of vague and undefined phrase the American people have come to expect from representatives of the national government, particularly when it comes to questions about the interminable “War on Terror.”

The Pentagon confirmed Tuesday that it is carving out a brand new spy agency expected to include several hundred officers focused on intelligence gathering around the world.
At a time of budget cutbacks, particularly in the military, it’s unclear how the Defense Department has been able to move around the money to afford a new agency. The Pentagon wouldn’t get into specifics saying only that the so-called “Defense Clandestine Service”
Prison Planet.com » Obama Impeachment 2012
Film director, producer, actor and writer Sean Stone has thrown his weight behind a resolution introduced in the House last month by North Carolina Republican Walter Jones. Resolution 107 states that should the president use offensive military force without the authorization of Congress that such an act would be “an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor.”
Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution reserves exclusively for Congress the power to declare war. Both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison argued that the power to declare war must reside in the legislative branch of government and the president will only act as the commander-in-chief and direct the war after it is declared by Congress.
“The constitution supposes, what the history of all governments demonstrates, that the executive is the branch of power most interested in war, and most prone to it. It has accordingly with studied care vested the question of war in the legislature,” Madison wrote.
In the video, Stone notes Obama’s unconstitutional war on Libya was waged “despite the fact that the United States was neither attacked, nor threatened for attack by the nation of Libya.”
Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said during questioning by Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama that the Obama administration does not believe Congress has the exclusive right to declare war and that the Pentagon answers to the United Nations, not the people of the United States.

By Sher Zieve Sunday, March 18, 2012
After his effective coup against the United States Congress, in which he, his bought-and-paid-for “General” Dempsey and Communist Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta commanded that said Congress was now subservient to the United Nations, NATO and/or any other foreign power he decides on, Obama has now turned his sights back on the American people. On Friday 16 March 2012, Dictator-in-Chief Obama signed his latest illegal Executive Order only appearing to matter to US Constitutionalists whom his criminal syndicate calls “terrorists”, which he calls “National Defense Resources Preparedness.” This EO gives the Obama Syndicate the “right” to steal anything and everything from the American people they desire.
These include but, are not limited to, food, energy, water, health, all civil transportation and all other materials, services and facilities. It also allows Obama’s now completely criminal government—whom neither Congress nor the courts have tried to stop in any way whatsoever—to nullify any contract including what’s left of the now heavily-shredded US Constitution made between the US government and any private company and/or the American people. It gives the Obama Syndicate total control of the US Government and total control of ALL resources—including everything formerly owned by you and me—of and in the USA.Sec. 201.
