The iPad Answer (“…We aren’t going to fix the economic or social problems until the sheeple smarten up and realize how deeply immoral our society has become. “…”)
I was struck by a comment by one of our Freepers – ClearCase_guy, notably because I’ve said much the same thing here and there. ClearCase_guy said,
“Sometimes I wish the Republicans would put both the economic and social issues on the back burner. We probably need to spend 4 years just HAMMERING the propaganda industry, the media, and the educational establishment. Just expose them all as manipulative liars with no principles of any kind.
We aren’t going to fix the economic or social problems until the sheeple smarten up and realize how deeply immoral our society has become. “
ClearCase guy couldn’t have said it better. It is constant Right-Left bickering instead of coming down on Right vs Wrong. A society without morals and truths will soon be in shackles.
The problem with the media is that they lie. The problem with democrats and progressives is that they lie all the time. Anybody can say anything and get away with it, especially their side. All you get is back and forth ‘he said, she said’ or ‘I was taken out of context’ or ‘they all do it’ etc. Nobody believes anybody with all the denials and distortions.
The only way to fight the media is to confront them with actual unedited news clips, events, and the lies and outrageous comments of media hacks, campaign consultants, and politicians. It is not enough to just verbally counter the David Gregorys or Chuck Todds or Stephanopouluses.
On last week’s Meet the Press, Gregory challenged a Republican congressman when he accused the media of mocking the Mormon religion. The congressman brought up a quote from Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC which nailed O’Donnell. Gregory shrugged and went to another topic.
It’s not enough to just counter the enemy with facts. To really impress the viewer, the independents, and the media itself is to counterattack with actual visual evidence. Surprise them. Hoist them on their own petard on their own studio sets.
Enter the iPad. Remember when Obama gave the Queen of England all of his famous speeches on an iPod? I am proposing that the republicans arm themselves before stepping on stage with Couric or Lauer or Letterman or Gregory with iPads chock full of news videos of media bias that can be instantly played back to them. Suddenly, the usual hapless blundering republican mouthpiece has veritable visual firepower at his disposal.

Dee Dee Myers, former press secretary to President Bill Clinton, goes on Meet the Press and calls Newt Gingrich a political “sociopath.” Does moderator David Gregory call her out?

As Newt Gingrich takes his turn as the GOP flavor of the week, all that baggage he carries is beginning to be opened, unpacked and examined like a tourist going through customs on a slow day at the airport.
The past few days have shined a light on Newt’s relationship with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the quasi-governmental agencies that Gingrich has been hammering for their role in the nation’s mortgage meltdown. Yet, it turns out that Gingrich’s consulting firm accepted a sum well in excess of one million dollars from these same agencies to push their agenda with his Republican buddies on the Hill.
Ron Paul is Not “Ending” Student Loans
There are many headlines out there now stemming from his Meet the Press interview yesterday claiming that Ron Paul wants to end student loans. Well no, in fact, though he abolishes the Department of Education along with four other federal departments, the student loan part is taken out and handled elsewhere.
Everyone recognizes we have major problems with Social Security and Medicare, and yet when anyone attempts to address these problems, they are immediately accused of “ending,” “slashing” or “getting rid of” such programs. Ron Paul is not suggesting this for anyone currently reliant on these programs or for those who will be in the near future. In fact, Paul’s opt-out for Social Security in his budget plan is age 25—not exactly imminent doom for the program or those on it.
The same is true of student loans. To recognize that we are bankrupt and we must have drastic change in this country is not to say that certain programs Americans have come to rely on will be gotten rid of overnight. Paul is certainly saying no such thing.
But the costs must be addressed—and not simply what the government spends, but the massive debt incurred by those in this country who just want a college education. To be sure, the countless Americans who are now slaves to education-related debt can tell you there are substantial problems with our current system.
Ron Paul simply wants to fix them.

The Media Loses Readers and Viewers to its Own Radicalism
The problem with the American media is that it doesn’t speak to Americans. That’s why FOX News is successful, and CNN is in the basement. Network news exists underwritten by medication and mutual fund commercials, and even so it’s losing money. ABC News is making severe cutbacks even while cutting Amanpour a 2 million dollar paycheck for a show hardly anyone watches anymore. And despite investing in a splashy media rollout for the Amanpour branded This Week, she finished a distant third, well behind Meet the Press. While viewers normally tune in to see a new host, the addition of Amanpour couldn’t even compete with CBS or NBC’s own similarly decaying programs on the day of her own debut.
