EDITIORIAL: Did the NRA Make a Backdoor Deal to Support Universal Background Checks? (VIDEO)

On Tuesday, NBC News alleged that the NRA would not fight a federal universal background check bill provided that the UBC bill omits language that calls for a national gun registry. Kaise Hunt, a political reporter for NBC News wrote:
Senators negotiating a bill mandating background checks for all gun buyers are privately expecting the National Rifle Association not to fight the measure — provided the legislation does not require private gun sellers to maintain records of the checks, NBC News has learned.
If that requirement is met and key Republican negotiator Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma signs on, the powerful gun lobby has signaled to lawmakers that they would not actively oppose the bill — and not count votes in favor of it as part of its highly influential NRA lawmaker ratings — according to Senate aides familiar with the stalled negotiations.
The story posted on NBCNews.com alleges that NRA will not oppose expanding the background check system to include all private firearm sales, “provided the legislation does not require private gun sellers to maintain records of the checks”.
This statement is completely untrue.
The NRA opposes criminalizing private firearms transfers between law-abiding individuals, and therefore opposes an expansion of the background check system.
The NRA supports meaningful efforts to address the problems of violent crime and mass violence in America, through swift and certain prosecution of violent criminals; securing our schools; and fixing our broken mental health system.
So, matter settled, right?
Perhaps. But, I believe the question isn’t whether the NRA would fight a UBC bill, because let’s face it, they’re the NRA, they’re going to publicly oppose anything that even vaguely resembles a gun control bill, the question is whether they would really care if it passed.

A First? President Obama Gets Standing Ovations From House Republicans

Talk about white smoke: I am told, by Republican sources, that President Obama got standing ovations at the beginning and end of his meeting today with House Republicans on Capitol Hill – his first such meeting in four years.
There were tough questions and no breakthroughs, but a source inside the closed-door meeting called it “very cordial” and told me that virtually every House Republican who stood up to ask a question began by saying, “Thank you for coming” and “You are welcome here anytime.” Some added, “We need to work together.”

What a, um, surprise. More lies from Janet Incompetanto’s DHS. At the EXACT same time her ICE division was setting 2,800 criminal illegal aliens loose from jails in 12 states before the ‘sequester’ in February – which Big Sis insisted was necessary due to “looming budget cuts” – her TSA division was sealing a $50-million deal to purchase new UNIFORMS for its agents. So for the same amount could have housed every one of those released detainees for an additional 10 months, TSA agents will look swell in shiny new uniforms, while thousands of criminal aliens are out on American streets. Oh and here’s the kicker: the uniforms were partially manufactured…IN MEXICO!
The impending sequester did not prevent the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from acting in late February to seal a $50-million deal to purchase new uniforms for its agents–uniforms that will be partly manufactured in Mexico.
Soon after this new investment in TSA uniforms, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warned Americans that the lines are already lengthening at airports due to the sequester.
“We are already seeing the effect on the ports of entry, the big airports for example,” Napolitano told Politico on Monday. “Some of them had very long lines this weekend.”
“Look people, I don’t mean to scare, I mean to inform,” Napolitiano said.”If you’re traveling, get to the airport earlier than you otherwise would. There’s only so much we can do with personnel and please don’t yell at the customs officers, the TSA officers. They aren’t responsible for sequester.”

A guy who can’t figure out his own taxes is supposed to fix the economy? This is the absurd rationale being offered by media figures such as Andrea Mitchell of NBC News for confirming Timothy Geithner as Obama’s Treasury Secretary after it was disclosed that he was a serial tax evader. He did his own taxes for a couple years and got into trouble, Mitchell chuckled.
And everybody can relate to that, right? Mitchell is the one who deserves to be laughed at. This guy is supposed to be so smart we can entrust him with managing the entire U.S. economy? She must be kidding. Does she seriously expect us to believe that?
Anybody watching this bizarre spectacle unfold has to suspect there is something more to the story. Who is behind Geithner and why? And why does Obama want him? This is where the media fear to tread. As we have pointed out, major media companies such as GE (parent of NBC News) and the Washington Post Company have their own connections to Geithner through their own officials and board members.
They have a conflict of interest that will never be reported by the news organizations themselves.

President Barack Hussein Obama is not gutting the U.S. military, he’s working at making it irrelevant.
In public Obama professes an admiration for US troops, bestowing medals of bravery on them in media-blitzed photo ops. Wife Michelle plays a role in the public display carried by media propaganda that crows “The Obamas love the US military”.
But behind the scenes, Obama, the Artful Dodger of Modern Times, lobs bombs at the US military without running the risk he’ll ever be caught tossing.
The never-ending Marxist strategy the cunning Obama uses against the military should be called his two-step tango. It’s a toss-and-duck operation played out from the convenient safety of afar.

Today on Meet the Press, two veteran Washington newsmen, The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward and former ABC, now NBC News correspondent Ted Koppel, matter of factly described the present foreign policy environment as being in “meltdown” and entering “one of the most dangerous” periods in U.S. history.
Breitbart’s Big Journalism ^ | January 19, 2013 | John NoltePosted on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 3:38:10 PM by 2ndDivisionVetOn Thursday, while looking wistfully back at Obama‘s first four years, NBC News accidentally did some actual reporting. In a First Read article that opened with the question,
“Is the nation better off than it was four years ago,” senior political director, Mark Murray, did something that neither he, nor NBC News, nor the mainstream media was willing to do during this last presidential campaign: report on Obama’s record. But there it finally was: The Truth — and from NBC News, no less.
Poverty’s up from 43.6 million to 46.2 million, middle class incomes are down $50k compared to $52k, the deficit’s exploded from $10 trillion to $16 trillion, food stamp recipients have skyrocketed 33.5 million to 46.6 million, unemployment hasn’t budged, and the same number of people are without health insurance today as there were in 2009.
Still, NBC News couldn’t even bring itself to report the most damning Obamanomics numbers: a population so despondent by a lack of jobs that enough people have dropped out to shrink the labor market to levels unseen since the 1980s. A chronic long-term unemployment problem unseen in this country since World War II.

There are obvious signs that tell the difference between genuine and fabricated event. The recent shooting of police and firemen responding to a deliberately-set fire has all the signs of being a bona fide event: there is a single consistent narrative, one shooter has been clearly identified, and there has been no good reason to doubt that the subject, William Spengler, went off the rails and committed the crimes.
There are many articles about it, which relate the same basic themes: “Killer of 2 NY Firemen had semiautomatic rifle, left note”: “Police say the man who lured firefighters in Webster, N.Y., into a deadly ambush had the same make and caliber semiautomatic rifle as the one used in the Connecticut school massacre. Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said Tuesday that 62-year-old William Spengler was armed with a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle, a .38-caliber revolver and a 12-gauge shotgun in Monday’s ambush. Spengler killed two firefighters and wounded two others before fatally shooting himself.”

“I think we need to ban control laws that prevent people from protecting themselves”.
Now I’ve been watching this news for most of the day. Remarkably, it seems to change every few minutes.
First, we had the name change. Who exactly did the shooting? Ryan? Adam? Someone else?
Then, we hear that someone in camo garb or something was apprehended in the woods. When I first heard this, I assumed it was the brother and that was why there was confusion about the name.
But turns out that the brother was actually at work – and was not in the woods. So who was in the woods?

But by limiting their discussion only to shootings, they ignore the worst school massacre in U.S. history which wasn’t a shooting at all.

…..The killers are always almost all the same: Young white men who are pleasant but bland loners. In this case the shooter is said to have had obvious emotional problems.
The idea of some is that such crazies should be stopped via gun control. If they cannot get guns they cannot hurt people with them.
Of course, in Britain where guns are virtually banned there has been a subsequent increase in knife crime and battery. And in China there have been reports of numerous horrifying knife attacks on children in schools. People will hurt each other if they are motivated to do so.
But these massacres are something else. Who picks up a rifle and shoots little children? And why?
And why are there always questions lingering after “official” investigations?

It is now official. The mainstream media is no longer covering Ron Paul’s presidential campaign.
A few weeks ago Dylan Byers of Politico reported that NBC News was the only media organization that still had a reporter covering Ron Paul full-time.
Now Byers has filed an update revealing that Anthony Terrell of NBC News has also been reassigned.
“Ron Paul is officially embedless.” writes Byers, adding that NBC has refused to comment on the decision.
Byers also reveals that other mainstream organizations, including Fox News, have no intention of putting a reporter back out full-time.
“Paul doesn’t have as many events right now as the other candidates in the race,” Hunter Ryan, the politics editor at Fox News Channel, told Byers.
“He is focusing on certain states. I am planning on covering him… [and] a combination of embed and bureau resources will be used to cover Paul going forward.”
“For most political reporters, he is all but irrelevant to the future of the GOP contest.” Byers adds.

When the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure made a decision to sever its ties with America’s number one seller of abortions, Planned Parenthood, the media went to war. The media coverage was slanted in such a way that “mainstream” reporters like Andrea Mitchell and Lisa Myers of NBC News were openly advocating for a point of view—pressuring Komen to reverse course and give in to Planned Parenthood.
Why would the media go to war over something as seemingly insignificant as a policy change regarding funding at Komen, a private cancer charity? Part of the answer lies in the fact that, for the media, “women’s rights” take precedence over all other rights, including the rights of children.

Last Monday, November 14th, the National Broadcasting Corporation announced that have hired the estimable Chelsea Clinton as a full-time special correspondent for NBC News. The appointment, effective immediately, will assign Ms. Clinton to stories on the NBC Nightly News and its “Making A Difference” series, according to Steve Capus, President of NBC News.
Capus, who insists that this is a serious hire for a legitimate job, told the New York Times that he had been contacted by an “intermediary” on young Chelsea’s behalf and that this rather shadowy figure indicated that Ms. Clinton was interested in a career as a television journalist at NBC News.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry could still stage a comeback in the topsy-turvy race for the Republican presidential nomination if Newt Gingrich stumbles under growing scrutiny.
That’s the conclusion of some commentators on the Sunday morning network television talk shows where much of the focus was devoted to Gingrich surging to lead the pack in the latest polls nationwide, in Iowa and in New Hampshire.
“I do not rule out a possible comeback by Rick Perry simply because he has got a lot of money to spend,” Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson told colleagues on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.” “Granted he doesn’t show signs of this revival that I am tentatively predicting. But I think he has the best chance of any of the others of dislodging Gingrich.”

With the rise of independent media, the secrets of the American nomenklatura are coming into clearer focus, the shameless exploitation of the good will and treasure of the people increasingly put on view for all to see.
1. The media and the Democrats are joined at the hip and have created a “hereditary celebrity class”
One of the fastest ways to celebrity and fortune (besides perhaps going on Dancing with the Stars, being adopted into the Hilton or Kardashian families and making a porn video) is to be the child of a politician or a well connected political operative.
If your father is a Republican this route is generally available to you only if you are very stupid like Meghan McCain or perfidious like Ronald Reagan Jr and his sister Patty Davis, someone who can be counted upon to trash your father’s party until the novelty wears off. (Jenna Bush is a rare exception to this rule.)
“In another win for the famously blind meritocracy that rules American life, rewarding the ultra-talented and pushing the less brilliant and skilled into the outer darkness, Chelsea Clinton has landed a coveted position at NBC News.
