The photographs of celebrities and models in fashion advertisements and magazines are routinely buffed with a helping of digital polish. The retouching can be slight — colors brightened, a stray hair put in place, a pimple healed. Or it can be drastic — shedding 10 or 20 pounds, adding a few inches in height and erasing all wrinkles and blemishes, done using Adobe’s Photoshop software, the photo retoucher’s magic wand.

“Fix one thing, then another and pretty soon you end up with Barbie,” said Hany Farid, a professor of computer science and a digital forensics expert at Dartmouth.

And that is a problem, feminist legislators in France, Britain and Norway say, and they want digitally altered photos to be labeled. In June, the American Medical Association adopted a policy on body image and advertising that urged advertisers and others to “discourage the altering of photographs in a manner that could promote unrealistic expectations of appropriate body image.”

Much has happened since my last visit. In the Netherlands we were able to achieve many amazing things. We have successfully started to roll back the process of Islamization in the Netherlands. We have done so in a peaceful way and through the democratic process. Recently, a deranged narcissistic psychopath from Norway committed a horrible crime. In cold blood he murdered nearly eighty innocent fellow citizens. The assassin pretended to be a concerned European. He said that he had committed his atrocity because “It is meaningless to participate in the democratic process.” But he is wrong! The mass murderer from Oslo murdered and maimed, and he justified his heinous crime by denying – I quote – “that it is remotely possible to change the system democratically.” – end of quote. But he is wrong! The Oslo murderer falsely claims to be one of us. But he is not one of us. We abhor violence. We are democrats. We believe in peaceful solutions.

The Illusion Of Safety, Government Cannot Protect Us

Recent incidents of violence in Norway and London have made us understandably uncomfortable here at home, as many fear that a worsening economy will lead to violence and unrest in American cities. This is why Congress must view the economy as its first priority and a matter of national security: unless and until we get our fiscal house in order to foster economic growth, civil society will continue to deteriorate.

The fundamental lesson every American should learn from these incidents is that government cannot protect us. No matter how many laws we pass, no matter how many police or federal agents we put on the streets, a determined individual or group can still cause great harm. Both Norway and England have strict gun control laws, and London in particular has security cameras monitoring nearly all public areas. But laws and spy cameras are useless in the face of lawless mobs or sick mass killers. Only private individuals on the scene could have prevented or lessened these tragedies. And we should remember that theft, arson, and property damage were not the only criminal acts in London–innocent bystanders were assaulted and killed as well. In those instances deadly force used in self-defense would have been fully justified.

Perhaps the only good that can come from these terrible events is a reinforced understanding that we as individuals are responsible for our safety and the safety of our families. This means, frankly, that we must safely own and use firearms to deter or prevent criminal assaults on our homes and persons. It is absurd to think police or government agents can protect 310 million Americans around the clock.

Thanks to our media and many government officials, however, Americans have become conditioned to view the state as our protector and the solution to every problem. Whenever something terrible happens, especially when it becomes a prominent news story, people reflexively demand that government do something. This impulse almost always leads to bad laws, more debt, and the loss of liberty. It is completely at odds with the best American traditions of self-reliance and individual responsibility.

Do we really want to live in a world of police checkpoints, surveillance cameras, and metal detectors? Do we want to imprison every disturbed or alienated individual who fantasizes about violence? Do we really believe government can provide total security? Or can we accept that liberty is more important than the illusion of state-provided security?

Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference unless they use force or fraud against others. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.

Col. Peter J Ortriz

I was speaking with my father (who is now in his 80th year) when he told me that he had been asked to give a short talk to a group of young schoolchildren about his experiences in the 1939-1945 war.

Whenever he talks about the war the name of Peter Ortiz is always mentioned with some awe and respect.

In order to find out a little more about him we searched the web and came across your excellent sites.

My father was one of the four Royal Airforce Officers mentioned in the sites that Peter Ortiz helped to escape from France.

The four Officers were part of a seven man special operations 4 engined Halifax bomber crew. They came from Royal Airforce 138 (Special Duties) Squadron whose sole task was to drop arms and agents into Europe.

They were a highly experienced crew who had already completed one tour of 28 bombing missions over Germany and this was their 13th Special Duty trip.

On the night in question my father remembers the weather as being appalling. They really should not have been flying but there was great pressure to get another agent (now known to be Francis Cammearts) into Southern France.

When over France an engine caught fire. With the poor weather and accumulation of ice on the aircraft they could not maintain height and all crew bailed out. On the ground they met up in two groups, the group containing my father joining the resistance group operated by Peter Ortiz. They remaining crew joining another group.

Having spent some time in a marquis camp they were taken by Peter Ortiz personally by road and rail to the Spanish border.

What amazed all four Officers is that through out this time Peter Ortiz was wearing his Marine uniform under his coat, even in the rail station and on the train which was swarming with Germans who no doubt would have been very pleased to catch him.

My father simply said, as he has many times before, that Peter Ortiz was probably the bravest man he has ever met.

By way of interest all seven members of the crew escaped to England. All but one survived the war. He was killed on another Special Duty mission to Norway in 1945. The remaing crew kept in contact throughout their lives but sadly today there are only two members of the Crew still alive.

If you are able to contact the family of Peter Ortiz you may like to tell them that in England there is at least one man, fifty eight years after the event, who still remembers Peter Ortiz with great affection and respect and that during this week a class of nine year old English school children will learn of his exploits in helping the English Officers.

Before getting into the meat of this article I would like to briefly discuss the recent acts of terrorism in Oslo, Norway. No sane person, and certainly no Christian worthy of the name, could possibly condone such horrific activity. Link

Yet our purveyors of leftist anti-American doublethink—the media—have been quick to promulgate the myth that the alleged perpetrator, Anders Breivik, is a “right-wing Christian fundamentalist.” Link

That is a lie. Breivik’s manifesto has much more in common with the rantings of eco-nut Ted Kaczynski, than the teachings of Jesus Christ. But I will let that pass for the moment, and shortly direct attention to some other whoppers that the mass media have told us. These lies, or Sorelian myths if you prefer, are sometimes given as evidence of the media’s hypocrisy and double-standards. I prefer to call the media bald-faced liars—it’s more to the point. Beck: Norway camp smacks of ‘Hitler Youth’

(CNN) — In the wake of last week’s massacre in Norway, U.S. conservative commentator Glenn Beck on Monday compared the summer camp where most of the 76 victims died to the Hitler Youth organization of Nazi Germany.

Beck, on his radio show, declared the killings “the work of a madman” and called the suspect “as bad as Osama bin Laden.” But before launching into that condemnation, he questioned what the victims were doing at a summer camp run by Norway’s ruling Labour Party.

Beck said the camp “sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler Youth or whatever. Who does a camp for kids that’s all about politics? Disturbing.”

However, politically-oriented camps are being organized in several U.S. states by chapters of the “9/12 Project” — an organization founded by Beck himself in 2009.

Yet President Barack Obama reacted immediately to the news of the atrocity to insinuate an Islamic connection and to justify America’s war on terror.

Obama spoke on Friday while hosting New Zealand Prime Minister John Key in the White House.

The US President said of the attacks: “It’s a reminder that the entire international community has a stake in preventing this kind of terror from occurring, and that we have to work co-operatively together both on intelligence and in terms of prevention of these kinds of horrible attacks.”

Prime Minister Key added: “If it is an act of global terrorism I think it shows that no country, large or small, is immune from that risk, and that is why New Zealand plays its part in Afghanistan as we try and join others like the United States in making the world a safer place,” he said.

On Friday evening local time, 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik was captured by police moments after he went on a two-hour shooting rampage at a youth summer camp, killing at least 84 people, most of whom were aged between 14 and 18.

Hundreds of teenagers had gathered on the island of Otoeya, about 20 miles northwest of the capital, Oslo, for an annual summer camp organised by the Scandinavian country’s ruling Labour party.

Norway mass killer wants time in court to tell why

(Reuters) – Anders Behring Breivik wants to tell Norway and the World why he killed at least 93 people in a bomb attack and shooting rampage when he appears in court on Monday, his lawyer said.

Calling himself a crusader against a tide of Islam in a rambling 1,500-page online manifesto, the 32-year-old mass murderer wants the opportunity to explain actions he deemed “atrocious, but necessary”.

Lawyer Geir Lippestad said his client had admitted to Friday’s shootings at a Labor youth camp and a bomb that killed seven people in Oslo‘s government district, but that he denies any criminal guilt.

“He has been politically active and found out himself that he did not succeed with usual political tools and so resorted to violence,” Lippestad told TV2 news.

“I await a medical assessment of him,” he said.

Police sources tell TV2 Mr Breivik uploaded an English-language video to YouTube just hours before the bomb went off. In the over 12-minute video, which the broadcaster calls ‘mainly anti-Marxist and anti-Islamic propaganda’, (readers will have to register with YouTube to watch the video) he calls for a war against both, and compares himself with a knight. Mr Breivik used to be a member of the ‘Knights Templar‘, today an order within the Masonic Movement, has been excluded from the Masonic Order.

Mr Breivik also published a 1,517-page manifest the same day as the attacks, where he alleges Oslo Muslims have assaulted, threatened, or tried to rob him ‘just’ eight times between 15 and 21 years old.

The man blamed for attacks on Norway’s government headquarters and a youth retreat that left at least 92 dead said he was motivated by a desire to bring about a revolution in Norwegian society, his lawyer said Sunday. A manifesto that he is believed to have written ranted against Muslim immigration to Europe and vowed revenge on “indigenous Europeans” who he accused of betraying their heritage.

Although lawyer for the 32-year-old Norwegian suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, said his client acted alone, police conducted raids on a garage and sheds in an industrial neighborhood of eastern Oslo, said police officer Kjell Bjerklund.

Survivors of the mass shooting on Utoya island that killed at least 85 young people reported seeing two assailants, and police have said they were looking into those accounts and had not ruled out a second suspect. Another seven people were killed in Friday’s bombing in an Oslo government building.

In all, 92 people were killed and 97 wounded. There are still people missing at both scenes. Six hearses pulled up at the shore of the lake surrounding the island on Sunday, as rescuers on boats continued to search for bodies in the water. Body parts remain inside the Oslo building, which housed the prime minister’s office.

A manifesto published online — which police are poring over and said was posted the day of the attack — ranted that the European elite, “multiculturalists” and “enablers of Islamization” would be punished for their “treasonous acts.” Police have not confirmed that Breivik wrote the document, but his lawyer referred to it and said Breivik had been working on it for years.

The treatise ends with a detailed description of the plot, ending with a note dated 12:51 p.m. on July 22: “I believe this will be my last entry.”

It is about more than twelve minutes long video, which Behring Brevik compare themselves with Knights, and encourage a year-long war against Marxism and Islamism.

He has also published a manuscript of 1,500 pages which he explains very extreme political views. In addition, he describes in detail how an attack to be carried out. Everything from the use of the car bomb of the type of equipment to be used in an attack.

On an image that has not previously been known pose the seemingly Anders Behring Breivik in a diving suit with what looks like an automatic rifle. On his shoulder he has a badge that says “Marxist Hunter.”

In the document, which is over 1500 pages the author elaborates on events throughout history and will repeatedly return to the Knights Templar, or Knights Templar as they say in English.

Today, the Knights Templar, an order within the Masonic movement, which also Anders Behring Breivik was a member of. He will now be excluded from the Masonic Order.

After initially urging caution in presuming it was Islamic terrorists at the root of the mayhem, when reports came in of Islamic groups claiming credit, we noted that Norway has pursued anti-Israel policies, and that anti-Israel boycotts are popular among certain groups in Norway. I remain skeptical about Brevik, just as I remain skeptical of the narrative that Timothy McVeigh was a “right wing Christian” terrorist. The narrative of a blond-haired, blue-eyed Christian fascist attacking his own country is entirely too convenient.

I have no doubt that he’s the shooter, given the witnesses and the fact that he was arrested at the scene. But an attack like yesterday’s took months of planning and probably quite a bit of training. Not just anyone is capable of building explosives that will remotely (or were they timed?) detonate successfully in a major downtown.

One also does not knock the ruling party from power by murdering 80 of its up-and-coming in a horrific attack. If anything, that’s a good way to keep them in power for the next 20 years. I would count on Labour to milk this for all it’s worth.
