‘OCCUPY BOSTON’ HOLDS RALLY FOR ACCUSED TERRORIST CHARGED WITH PLANNING ‘VIOLENT JIHAD’ AGAINST U.S.
Using the upcoming trial of jihadist Terak Mehana — who was arrested on federal terrorism charges — as a springboard, the “Occupy” movement has stretched beyond Wall Street and Washington to D.C. to the Rose Kennedy Greenway of Boston.
To add fuel to the fire, The Boston Herald reports that the protesters played host to Mehanna’s supporters, who are using the demonstration to draw attention to the accused terrorist’s trial.
Well, the group certainly seems to be accomplishing its mission. What the demonstration has also done, however, is draw correlation between the “Occupy” movements and those charged with conspiring to commit jihad — atrocious acts of murder — against fellow citizens on American soil and soldiers abroad.
The Tarek Mehanna Support Committee reportedly came to Occupy Boston’s tent city to spread the word that, according to them, the Muslim American pharmacist is merely a victim of an anti-Muslim crusade.
The U.S. government, however, says Mehanna provided “material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization,” and acted as a “media wing” for al-Qaeda.
According to a bio in Time Federal authorities arrested then 27-year-old Mehanna in 2009 on charges that he conspired to provide material support to terrorists and planned to carry out a “violent jihad” by killing U.S. politicians, attacking American soldiers in Iraq and targeting customers at U.S. shopping malls.

Justice Department Prepares for Expansion of Law Prohibiting ‘Material Support’ for Terrorism: Information Clearing House: ICH
In late September the FBI carried out a series of raids of homes and anti-war offices of public activists in Minneapolis and Chicago. Following the raids the Obama Justice Department subpoenaed 14 activists to a grand jury in Chicago and also subpoenaed the files of several anti-war and community organizations.
In carrying out these repressive actions, the Justice department was taking its lead from the Supreme Court’s 6-3 opinion last June in Holder v. the Humanitarian Law Project which decided that non-violent First Amendment speech and advocacy “coordinated with” or “under the direction of” a foreign group listed by the Secretary of State as “terrorist” was a crime. The search warrants and grand jury subpoenas make it quite clear that the federal prosecutors are intent on accusing public non-violent political organizers, many affiliated with Freedom Road Socialist Organization FRSO, of providing “material support,” through their public advocacy, for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine PFLP and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia FARC.
The Secretary of State has determined that both the PLFP and the FARC “threaten US national security, foreign policy or economic interests,” a finding not reviewable by the Courts, and listed both groups as foreign terrorist organizations FTO.In 1996, Congress made it a crime then punishable by 10 years, later increased to 15 years, to anyone in the U.S. who provides “material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization or attempts or conspires to do so.”
The present statute defines “material support or resources” as:…
Big Brother Terrorizes More Activists
It’s like McCarthyism all over again. On September 24, FBI agents raided the homes of some antiwar activists in Chicago and Minneapolis on suspicion that they were providing material support to terrorism. This follows only a few weeks after it was discovered that Pennsylvania’s Office of Homeland Security had been spying on activist groups in the Keystone State.
The Chicago Tribune quotes one of the harassed activists in Minnesota as calling the searches “an outrageous fishing expedition.”Indeed. But this is apparently how our tax dollars are being used.Apparently the authorities still subscribe to the George W. Bush-style assumption that if you’re not in lockstep with the government’s policies, then you must be with the terrorists. And the Bush administration’s knee-jerk, fear-based policies in response to 9/11 have arguably made it legal for agencies to conduct these witch hunts.
The USAPatriot Act broadened the definition of domestic terrorism to an extent that it “may have a chilling effect on the U.S. and international rights to free expression and association,” says Amnesty International USA.
