Why Hagel Was Picked – NYTimes.com
…..Chuck Hagel has been nominated to supervise the beginning of this generation-long process of defense cutbacks. If a Democratic president is going to slash defense, he probably wants a Republican at the Pentagon to give him political cover, and he probably wants a decorated war hero to boot.
All the charges about Hagel’s views on Israel or Iran are secondary. The real question is, how will he begin this long cutting process?
How will he balance modernizing the military and paying current personnel? How will he recalibrate American defense strategy with, say, 455,000 fewer service members? How, in short, will Hagel supervise the beginning of America’s military decline?
Newtown Politician to Gabby Giffords: ‘Stay Out of My Towns!!’
Connecticut legislator DebraLee Hovey, a six-term Republican state representative for the towns of Monroe and Newtown, had some candid, if ill-advised words for Gabrielle Giffords, who visited with victims of the Sandy Hook shooting on Friday.
“Gabby Gifford [sic] stay out of my towns!!” Hovey wrote on her then-public Facebook, via mobile from Saint Pete Beach, Florida. “It was political,” she elaborated in the comments, according to cringey screenshots obtained by the Hartford Courant.
“The Lt Gov was there […] and ALL political types KNOW it is courteous to let sitting Reps known when another political [sic] is in their District,” Hovey went on. “So……. There was pure political motives.” (The visit, while “low-key” and without press, was reported in advance.)
Mayor Appeals to Gangsters of Chicago
RUSH: Here. Grab audio sound bite number 14. This, to me, is perfectly illustrative of some things that we were talking about yesterday. Rahm Emanuel. The murder rate in Chicago is out of control. It’s out of sight. People are being murdered in Obama’s town left and right, in Rahm Emanuel’s town left and right. So the mayor of Chicago, “the Godfather,” Rahm Emanuel appealed to the city’s gangsters.
He appealed to the city’s gangsters. I don’t even want to flavor this. Let’s just play the audio sound bite. This is on the CBS Evening News last night with Scott Pelley. Pelley said, “After Heaven Sutton was killed, you said, ‘It’s not about crime. It’s about values.’ What do you mean by that?”

House GOP on Verge of Surrendering to Teachers’ Union
Thanks to House Republicans, a major school pension reform passed by the state Senate last week could be undone. As reported by CapCon, Senators defied government employee unions by voting to close the chronically underfunded “defined benefit” school pension system to new employees, starting in 2013.

“About 30,000 active-duty troops and a similar number of reserve-component members owe the Internal Revenue Service a collective $390 million in back taxes, according to IRS data,” reports WTLX.A new law buried within a transport bill that has already passed the Senate and is expected to pass the House shortly would empower the IRS to revoke passports of Americans accused of tax delinquency.
“There is no requirement that the tax payer be guilty of or even charged with tax evasion, fraud, or any criminal offense — only that the citizen is alleged to owe the IRS back taxes of $50,000 or more,” reports the Daily Economist.

Some extremists are objecting to the Police State.
The Police State has been erected over the past several decades under Democrat and Republican Presidents.
For years, it was not acceptable to speak of the evidence which showed clearly that a Police State was being built.
Now it is common knowledge.
The last four Presidents in particular have done serious damage to America and have prepared a Police State control grid operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which DHS is now preparing to act in defense of the Federal mechanism as awakening citizens become enraged — and frightened!
Prison Planet.com » Ron Paul says GOP result ‘opens up the door’
Republican Ron Paul said front-runner Mitt Romney’s inability to brush back challenges in votes Tuesday “opens up the door” to him and others looking to deny the former Massachusetts governor the party’s presidential nomination.
The Texas congressman was headed for a solid second-place in Minnesota’s caucuses, which were won by former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Santorum also won Missouri and was in the hunt for a victory in Colorado’s caucuses.
“I’m a little surprised.
I thought Romney would have some of this automatic carryover,” Paul told The Associated.
“It certainly doesn’t hurt us.”Paul was on course to capture more than a quarter of Minnesota’s vote.
He was a distant third in Missouri’s non-binding primary and far back in Colorado.

Reporting from Washington— The last time Nevada Republicans caucused in a presidential contest, they delivered a stunning second-place finish to Texas Rep. Ron Paul, the libertarian-minded candidate who had been largely written off, averaging last place in polls leading up to caucus day.
The lesson was that Paul may not appeal to a broad base of voters, but the people who like him can be counted on to turn up and disproportionately represent themselves at caucus events, which typically draw few participants.
Four years later, Paul has turned the lesson of Nevada into a national campaign strategy, focusing his attention on caucus states where his loyal followers could keep him in the delegate hunt.

New Hampshire business owners could soon have the legal right to decide who they serve.
Lawmakers are debating a bill that would let a business refuse service to any couple, for any reason.
As a business owner, Tim Kierstead believes in the right to run his restaurant the way he sees fit.
“I think each business has the right to do as they choose,” he told WBZ-TV.
But as a gay man, he has a real problem with the new bill being proposed.
It would allow businesses to refuse service to a couple if they didn’t agree with their marriage.
The bill never specifically mentions gay marriage and opponents say it could be used to allow businesses to discriminate against anyone whose marriage they didn’t agree with.
The bill’s co-sponsor Rep. Frank Sapareto, a Republican from Derry, said this is not a gay rights issue, but a religious freedom case.
“We’re certainly taking people’s freedoms away as we make more and more laws that force them to provide occupation or services that violate their beliefs,” Sapareto told WBZ.

The dueling-perspectives political panel is compatible with the aims of CNN, MSNBC and the other progressive broadcasters. Here is how it works: You invite a member of the Republican establishment – often a RINO, preferably a bimbo – to do battle with a lefty from similar circles. The sides are ideologically so close that, in all likelihood, the panelists hang out after the show.

WASHINGTON – Michele Bachmann‘s plenty steamed about her treatment in tonight’s CBS News/National Journal debate between GOP presidential candidates.
Several times throughout the course of the 90-minute presentation, Rep. Bachmann, R-Minn., attempted to follow-up questions and answers by other candidates – just as the moderators of the debate suggested they would be allowed to do at their discretion.

Lawyer: Cain May Have Violated Confidentiality of Harassment Settlement
The lawyer for a woman who settled a sexual harassment complaint against Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain in the late 1990s says that Cain may have violated the confidentiality terms of the agreement by commenting on its specifics over the past 24 hours.
“Herman Cain and others have already disclosed that there was a confidential settlement,” says Joel P. Bennett, a Washington-based attorney specializing in employment law, who also represented the woman when she negotiated her settlement.
(snip)
“I don’t know if she’ll ever go public,” he said Tuesday.
(snip)
Without having the agreement in hand, Bennett says he doesn’t know what it specifically says about Cain’s obligations under the non-disparagement and confidentiality clauses.
“I haven’t seen the agreement” in a dozen years, he said. “I haven’t seen whether it goes both ways.”
But even if it doesn’t, Bennett says, “If an employer makes a confidential agreement, and then discloses it, there’s a reasonable assumption that the employer has waived the confidentiality part of the agreement.”
Bennett said his client, a graduate of an Ivy League university, worked in professional positions in government for many years before her tenure at the restaurant lobbying group, and does so currently.
Herman Cain would wear Ron Paul costume to scare people on Halloween
Herman Cain said that if he were to dress up for Halloween as one of his Republican political opponents to scare people, it would be Texas Rep. Ron Paul.
“That is a trick question,” Cain responded when asked the ice-breaker by the moderator at the American Enterprise Institute Monday morning. “I believe I would go as Ron Paul. “
Cain was at AEI to discuss his signature “9-9-9″ tax plan.

Obama Siding With U.N. Against Reforms Proposed in U.S. House
Even as the Obama administration admonishes the United Nations for an “unwarranted” pay hike for staffers, it is going to bat for the United Nations against proposed legislation proposed in Congress that would revolutionize the way America finances international institutions and give Washington better leverage over them.
Proponents of the legislation, offered today by the chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Republican of Florida, say that no matter how hard the administration fights against it, the current political climate presents an opportunity to rethink how American taxpayers finance Turtle Bay.
“This is the only way to create real reform, especially given U.S. budgetary stringency,” the former ambassador to the U.N., John Bolton, told the Sun. “This is the time to act,” he added. “The State Department may lobby hard” against Ms. Ros-Lehtinen’s proposal, “but the times they are a changin’.”
Mr. Bolton has long advocated reforming the way America pays its dues to the world body. He has called for Washington to finance only those U.N. units and programs it deems to advance America’s interests, rather than pay according to an assessment made by the General Assembly. His initiative is widely considered the basis for Ms. Ros-Lehtinen’s bill.
State Department officials say that voluntary-based U.N. dues would cut the amount of American contribution to the U.N. by half and undercut its world leadership….

SENATE DEBT DEAL IS A FRAUD!
he new Gang of Six proposal brewing in the Senate is a total sellout which promises to usher in a vast new round of new taxes. Not just closing of loopholes, but real live taxes we will all have to pay.
The proposal is based on the recommendations of the Bowles-Simpson Deficit Reduction Commission as modified by the “Gang of Six” US Senators. It plans to raise $1 trillion in new tax revenues. While the gang is vague on the details of the new taxes, the Bowles-Simpson Commission was quite clear – it proposes the virtual elimination of all tax deductions, certainly for taxpayers with joint incomes of over $200,000 and possibly for everyone. The revenues it would generate from eliminating or sharply curtailing the mortgage interest, charitable, and state and local tax deductions are set to generate $1 trillion of new revenues over ten years and to finance a vague and unspecified hoped for cut in the top tax bracket.
The elimination or significant curtailment of these deductions would have a ruinous economic impact.
Cutting out the mortgage interest deduction would cost American taxpayers almost $100 billion a year. It would decimate the already moribund real estate sector and would make their current homes unaffordable for millions of homeowners by changing the financial rules in the middle of the game.
Restricting or eliminating the state and local tax deduction is, in effect, to levy a 25-35 percent surcharge on state and local taxes – income and property – hammering people who live in high tax states. The cost in jobs and state revenues are likely to be staggering.
Limiting the charitable donation deduction is the unkindest cut of all since it hurts precisely the poor people Obama and the Democrats say they most want to help. They apparently only favor help to the poor when it comes through the government and buys their votes.
But the most dangerous part of the proposal is that to establish a commission to monitor the deficit reduction measures to assure that they unfold as planned. Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, has been pushing this idea for more than a year now hoping to equip the commission with automatic authority to cut spending and to raise taxes without legislative authorization. It would allow a tax increase without requiring any member of Congress to vote for it.
The House has taken a bold and important step in passing the “Cut, Cap and Balance” plan to deal with the deficit. By cutting spending, capping it as a proportion of GDP, and passing a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, the House Republicans have put the perfect plan on the table. They should not blink in the face of the Senate proposal but should stand up and demand that their leadership not be gulled into signing on to any variation of the Gang of Six plan.
One hopes that the Republican voters in the states the Republican accomplices of Conrad represent remember their decision to cast their lots with the Democratic members of the Gang to derail the House proposal and to add momentum to this monstrous deal. They are: Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho, Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Senator Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, and Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. They all deserve a primary when they run again.
Draft Judge Andrew Napolitano for Senate

Effort to Draft Judge Andrew Napolitano to Run for U.S. Senate Against Bob Menendez in 2012 is Launched
Bookmark and Share As the national political maneuvering for a nominee to oppose President Obama in 2012 slowly gains momentum, many in New Jersey are looking not only at changing the direction we are currently headed in by replacing one leader for another in the White House. They are also looking to help turn this nation around by replacing one of the individuals who represents our state in the U.S. Senate. And the man they seek to do that with is Judge Andrew Napolitano.
As such, today one grassroots Republican activist has introduced a website that intends to test the waters in an attempt to draft Judge Napolitano in to next year’s U.S. Senate race.
Anthony Del Pellegrino the creator of DraftNapolitanoNJ.wordpress.com states that this campaign to draft Judge Andrew Napolitano to run for the U.S. Senate from New Jersey “is a manifestation of disatisfaction with a political process that has become controlled by career politicians.” He adds that this campaign to draft Judge Andrew Napolitano to run for the U.S. Senate from New Jersey is based on three basic factors.
*
The dissatisfaction with the state Republican Party’s inability to recruit and nominate candidates who have been able to mount truly viable campaigns for the U.S. Senate, and the inability of those candidates who were nominated to effectively articulate the case against the liberal policies of those who currently hold the state’s two U.S. Senate seats.
*
Our belief that Judge Andrew Napolitano is a leader who has a true understanding of what is wrong in America and why we are headed in the wrong direction.
*
The understanding that Judge Napolitano has the proven ability to rise above partisan politics and the political rhetoric, and advance the cause of creating a responsible but limited federal government.
According to Del Pellegrino, defeating Democrat incumbent Bob Menendez in 2012 is essential to advancing a limited, constitutional based, government and defeating Menendez is just as important to the future of our nation as is who we elect for President in 2012.
“The balance of power could be held in the hands of New Jersey where, depending on whether Republican win the vice president’s tie-breaking vote in 2013 or not, Republicans could pick up the third or fourth seat they need to wrest control of the United States senate away from the liberal led Democrat majority that currently exists and which Menendez is a part of” , said Del Pellegrino.
At the moment the G.O.P. is poised to go through an election cycle inwhich they could easily win seats currently held by Democrats in North Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, and Missouri. They also have a good chance to win Virginia, New Mexico and Wisconsin. But a defeat of former Governor Jon Corzine’s hand picked successor, Bob Menendez, could insure Republicans control of the senate.
“In the recent past, New Jersey Republicans have failed to nominate a candidate strong enough to defeat Menendez. Instead they ran with establishment candidates who were career politicians and only offered New Jersey voters the opportunity to replace one career politician for another”, said Del Pellegrino.
New Jersey has not elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate since 1972 and some believe that the current slate of possible candidates for the Republican senate nomination have little chance of breaking that drought. Yet they do believe that Andrew Napolitano, a former New Jersey Superior Court justice, can.
Judge Napolitano, who is currently the chief judicial analyst for FOX News, represents all the principles that voters reinforced in the 2010 midterm elections.
Andrew Napolitano is a devout scholar of the United States Constitution, and understands that it is a document that is being abused and circumvented by power-hungry legislators in a runaway legislative process. His respect for the law and the founding principles of our nation are unsurpassed and is only part of a solid foundation for representing the people of New Jersey in the United States.
Unlike Bob Menendez and more so than any of the other current potential 2012 G.O.P. senate nominees, Judge Napolitano knows that government can not be effective or sustained by spending more than it has. He also knows that it does not serve the people by reaching in to their pockets and spending their money on unsustainable federal programs that cost more than they are worth. Andrew Napolitano truly understands that the government which governs best, governs the least and he knows that the true greatness of this nation is based not in its federal bureaucracy, but its people.
For these reasons, today the Draft Judge Andrew Napolitano for U.S. Senate effort begins.

Senator Rand Paul slams GOP for blocking efforts to amend PATRIOT Act
Senator Rand Paul slams GOP for blocking efforts to amend PATRIOT Act: “Freshman Republican Senator Rand Paul (KY) lashed out at the leadership of his own party, blaming them for preventing debate on the extension of the PATRIOT Act, which the Senate passed Thursday.
“I’ve been working for two long days filibustering the PATRIOT Act in hopes that we can have a constitutional debate over certain provisions of it and we can try to reform it to take away some of the encroachments on our freedoms,” Paul told CNN.
“Unfortunately, what we’re finding now is that the Democrats have agreed to allow me to have amendments but my own party is refusing to allow me to debate or present my amendments.”
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Paul (R-KY) introduced an amendment to the PATRIOT Act on Monday that attempted to safeguard American’s civil liberties by increasing oversight of government surveillance powers.
The Leahy-Paul amendment [PDF] would have required an expansion of public reporting on the use of surveillance powers granted by the PATRIOT Act. It would also require the government to prove a suspect was linked to a foreign group or power before being able to obtain highly sensitive records.

Former U.S. Ambassador John Bolton Wants To Target Qaddafi For Assassination
The former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations—and possible GOP candidate in 2012—tells Lloyd Grove of his decidedly undiplomatic solution to the crisis in Libya: Assassinate the dictator. Plus, Babak Dehghanpisheh reports from Libya on the rebels’ key victory in Ajdabiya. Former ambassador John Bolton, President Bush’s decidedly undiplomatic envoy to the United Nations who is considering running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, has a decidedly undiplomatic solution to the crisis in Libya: The United States should terminate Muammar Gaddafi with extreme prejudice.
Speaking Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, at Republican Rep. Steve King’s Conservative Principles Conference—a cattle call for presidential prospects in the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses—Bolton said: “Our military has a wonderful euphemism called ‘national command authority.’ It’s a legitimate military target. In Libya, Muammar Gaddafi is the national command authority. I think that’s the answer right there.” The red-meat applause line produced for Bolton, the longest of long-shots in the presidential contest, a rousing ovation from about 600 conservative activists filling up the grand ballroom at the Des Moines Marriott. “I think he’s a legitimate target,” the white-mustachioed Bolton told me after his speech. “That’s what Reagan did in 1986″—when U.S. jets bombed Gaddafi’s residence in Tripoli, killing his young daughter, in response to a lethal terrorist bombing in Germany—”and that would end the regime right there. He has murdered innocent American civilians.
He has never faced responsibility for it. So I don’t have any hesitation in saying that.”

Montana, where real America still lives
Montana, America’s last best place, is looking to legislate three very common sense initiatives that point the entire country in the right direction. With its Democratic Governor and two Democratic U.S. Senators, Montana’s Republican legislature plans to introduce a broad state nullification act that will block any federal law considered by Montanans to be unconstitutional.
House Bill No. 382 sponsored by Rep. Derek Skees is titled “An act prohibiting infringement of the state of Montana’s constitutional right to nullification of any federal statute, mandate, or executive order considered unconstitutional by the state.” The bill even provides for a retroactive date for its application.
This bill is being championed by MG Paul Vallely (ret.) a Bigfork native, heads up the Patriots Union which has distributed this bill model to 30 state legislatures through a large patriots network of conservatives. MT Bill No. 382 is based on the format of the Model State Nullification Reaffirmation Act of Wyoming.
A notion of a well regulated militia as covered by our U.S. Constitution also is taking shape in Montana’s halls of state governance. House Bill No. 278, sponsored by Rep. Wendy Warburton of Havre, calls for “home guards” of legally authorized law abiding Montanans to answer to the governor and sheriffs during emergencies.
Citing the Katrina debacle of un-preparedness, Warbuton says the “slow response and poor organization” during major disasters prompted her to sponsor this bill. “Really the bill is just about local volunteers being prepared in case of emergency to support the National Guard, support the sheriff, support the governor as needed.” she said. ….
The wonderful Code of the West is the third……. Living each day with courage, taking pride in your daily work, and always finishing what you start seem like a plan to me.

Florida Legislature proves once and for all that it is for sale ~ “The Florida Legislature proved this past week, once and for all, that it is the utter Whore of Babylon. It is now legal in our state to pay off the Legislature directly”
These are harsh words for a Sunday morning, but the occasion screams out for them. I take them from the Bible; please forgive me.
The Florida Legislature proved this past week, once and for all, that it is the utter Whore of Babylon.
It is now legal in our state to pay off the Legislature directly. Who says so? The Legislature.
This is not a joke.
This is not satire.
This is Florida — where the laws of our democracy are now openly, officially For Sale.
On Thursday afternoon, with greedy lip-smacking speed, the Legislature voted to relegalize a bygone and corrupt institution, outlawed in this state for more than two decades, known as “leadership funds.”
