Conservatives Adopting Lefty Language About ‘Income Inequality’ | BarelyABlog

January 21, 2014 23 comments

A more meaningful index than “income inequality”—it implies that income equality is the thing to strive for, heaven help us!—would be the correlation between the increasing balance sheets of the central banks of the world and so-called increasing wealth discrepancies.

Conservatives rarely argue the morality of capitalism and individual liberty. If they do debate, it is about the utility of freedom to the common good. The entire impetus of Republican-Party operatives is to keep up with the issues the Democrats introduce to distract from the destructive effects of galloping statism.

So if the latter decry “income inequality,” the former affirm that they too worry themselves sick over whatever it is the Democrats are droning on about.

In another break from Republican Party orthodoxy, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has said that America’s illegal immigrants should be integrated into the tax system in a program that would eventually lead to the possibility of citizenship.

Speaking about immigration issues at the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Paul said “Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport” the millions of illegal immigrants living in the United States en masse.

Prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into becoming and being taxpaying members of society,” the Tea Party leader and suspected 2016 presidential candidate added.

The federal government is, in practice, a one-party state controlled by an oligarchy, which is a relatively small group, composed of financiers, politicians and journalists.

Written by Lawrence Sellin

The oligarchy is roughly divided into two types of individuals: ideologues and pragmatists. Ideologues are adherents to uncompromising and dogmatic policies and are determined and unyielding in achieving their goals. Pragmatists have no solid core principles and will adjust their political positions for the purpose of remaining accepted members of the oligarchy. The ideologues always drive the political agenda, which is only moderated or delayed when met by sufficient resistance.

The third Organic Law of the United States of America, the Northwest Ordinance of July 13, 1787, is a direct refutation of the notion the Confederacy, the United States of America, was without the legislative power to tax or enact laws.

The Northwest Ordinance is proof at the Organic Law level the Confederacy possessed taxation and legislation power over the territory owned by or subject to the exclusive legislative power of the United States of America and no other.

The Basic Course in Law and Government, finally, shows how George Washington used the fourth Organic Law, the unadopted Constitution of September 17, 1787, to consolidate the power of the two Offices of President into the present day American Democracy.

Obama is a Narcissist Who Rules a Narcissistic Nation

Many of our populace are self-centered and just plain misinformed. We are becoming a nation of takers, enablers and ignoramuses.

We have lost the concept that to be concerned about others also means holding them and ourselves accountable.

We have forgotten what a Republic is. Our Constitution is being dissolved before our eyes and we remain silent. We have a former Speaker of the House who doesn’t know the 11th amendment from the 14th…whatever.

Worse yet, we want the government to take care of us and, in exchange for this false sense of security, we have given up much of our freedom, and will keep giving it up until there is no freedom left. It is inevitable if we don’t change course.

Governor Romney recently referred to the takers and givers in this nation and the role that played in his loss. Governor Romney was the candidate who emphasized individual responsibility over handouts. After he made his comments, he was attacked by Republicans! They are misguided, not Romney. He sees the direction we are headed in better than they do.

Some in the Republican Party are playing politics with reality in an effort to pander to the takers that they foolishly think they can win over. That thinking is dangerous. We need them to be clearheaded and courageous.

President Obama is a narcissist and that point can’t be emphasized enough. He sees all the world as an extension of himself. For example, he does not care enough about our embassies and diplomatic missions to provide them with security, but lest you think he doesn’t have time to consider those things, take notice of all the protection he and those close to him have.

The fact that the token clown of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama is even on the ticket blows my mind. Only four short years ago this skinny, inexperienced, mouthy, lying con artist with the business acumen of a house fly was running from state to state bashing George Bush and the Republican Party from one end of the country to the other.

He railed on how he would be different, how he would end the wars, how he would close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, how he would generate much needed jobs and save the failing American economy, how he would improve the living standards for the average American family and the list goes on and on. Nothing but lies told to get elected with an even longer list of failures in office.

We met up with Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico and present Libertarian candidate for President. Gary was a former governor of New Mexico. During his two terms in office, of an overwhelmingly Democrat state, he vetoed 750 bills and exercised thousands of line item vetos. He was so effective that his opposition referred to him as Governor Veto. He ran for the Republican nomination this year, but he was kept out of the early debates by CNN and CNBC rules, which were created to keep out minor candidates.

As a result, he never attained the status of serious candidate as far as the Main Stream Media was concerned.

A political deal will be struck to save the Democrat Party from total collapse and protect the Republican Party from revelations of complicity in the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people.

A growing number of Americans are now learning that Barack Obama, according to Article II, Section I, Clause 5 of the U. S. Constitution, is an illegal President. The law requires a candidate for the Presidency to be a “natural born citizen,” that is, a second generation American, a U.S. citizen, whose parents were also U.S. citizens at the time of the candidate’s birth.

Lost Faith: Young and Old Reject the Two Political Parties

May 5, 2012 3 comments

Ron Paul is getting a hearing from young voters and old ones. Both age groups think the two major parties are corrupt.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/gunnyg/drronpaulrev.jpg

This is not limited to the United States. Across Europe, the established parties are facing revolts.

This is a prelude to real political change. The voters did not care until it hit their wallets. Now they care. Too late. The politicians ran up the debts. These debts are coming due. No one has a solution.

There is only one solution: the Great Default. It’s coming.

In the meantime, the political parties face defections. Voters have lost faith. They see the politicians as liars, which in fact they are.

Fort 36 years, Ron Paul alone told the truth. That’s why he draws crowds. That’s why the Establishment fears him. He beat the system. He is creating the foundation of a grassroots take-over of the Republican Party.

In Europe, there are nationalist parties. They are not committed to free entereprise. No party in Europe is. So, European voters are stuck.

Here is the situation in Greece.

Mass defections from the ruling parties by the elderly, once their most loyal voters, will lead to a crumbling of support on May 6, pollsters say. About 30 percent of Greece’s 9.85 million strong electorate – 2.8 million – is over 65.

At the other end of the spectrum, legions of young voters are also turning their back on the two parties that have taken turns ruling Greece for the last four decades. About 15 percent of the electorate – 1.4 million – is 18 to 29.

Prison Planet.com » Are You Prepared to Vote For ‘More of the Same’ to Stop Obama?

February 25, 2012 6 comments

We have not been alone in suggesting that the nomination of any Republican candidate other than Ron Paul would essentially amount to a second term for President Obama.

http://i40.tinypic.com/24buw3p.jpg

One of the key reasons for why Ron Paul has consistently won over 20% or more of Republican voters during the primaries is because he is considered to be unlike any other candidate out there – a rebel, a true maverick. For Paul supporters, the thought of having a President Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich is no different than having another four years of President Obama. These views are shared by millions of Americans who see no difference between the tax and spend initiatives, foreign policy, and liberty restricting legislation supported by republicans and democrats alike over the last three decades.

As such, these millions of Americans, many of whom were involved in the original grass roots Tea Party movement prior to its annexation by the broader Republican Party, refuse to be tricked again by a politician who talks a big game with promises of limited government, tax cuts, spending cuts, and a return to Constitutional values, but fails to deliver anything but more of the same once they are elected.

This presents quite a conundrum for Republican Party candidates and the prospect of removing President Obama from office come November. Ron Paul supporters, many of whom have adamantly refused to vote for anyone but Paul for President, have unequivocally and en masse put the establishment on notice: Either you join us and make Paul the nominee, or Obama wins in November because we’re staying home on election day.

In a recent Ulsterman Report interview, a long-time DC operative and Obama administration insider shares his insights on the matter. Among other things, Insider argues that Romney, Santorum and Gingrich are nothing like Obama, and that rather than focusing on destroying the credibility of republican primary candidates, the focus needs to shift, fully and completely, on removing President Obama from the White House.

I’ve read the comments by people sayin’ they are conservative. If Romney gets the nomination…or if Gingrich gets the nomination…or if Santorum gets the nomination…whoever gets the f-cking nomination – they are sayin’ they won’t vote for them because “they’re just like Obama.” Really? Is that right? BULLSH-T. There ain’t nobody “just like Obama” people. Believe me. You ain’t got a f-cking clue if that’s what you really think.

This country ain’t seen anybody reach the White House like Obama. Or more importantly – the people around Obama. The ones supporting and pushing Obama. Giving him the agenda, the words, the whole f-cking plan.

Will Ron Paul Destroy the ‘Party of Lincoln’? (“And Would This Be Bad?”) by Thomas DiLorenzo

January 29, 2012 5 comments

Former Bush administration speechwriter Michael Gerson, who is now a columnist for the company newspaper of the company town known as Washington, D.C., recently authored yet another hysterical neocon rant over the Ron Paul candidacy. Ron Paul is on a “quest to undo the Party of Lincoln,” blared Gerson’s headline. Every freedom-loving, patriotic American can only hope and pray that Ron Paul succeeds.

English: Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth Presid...

Image via Wikipedia

Gerson’s tone is dripping with venomous hatred when he accuses Ron Paul of being some kind of nut by calling the Civil War “senseless” and of saying that Lincoln ruled with an iron fist. Generations of historians have also called the Civil War “senseless” or something similar. “The bumbling generation” is how some historians describe the Civil War-era politicians who plunged the nation into war, the most preeminent of whom was Lincoln himself. But when Ron Paul refers to the war in that way what he has in mind is the true historical fact that all other countries of the world that ended slavery in the nineteenth century – including most of the Northern states in the U.S – did so peacefully. The British, French, Spaniards, Dutch, Swedes, Danes, and others ended slavery in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, all of Central America, Mexico, Bolivia, Uruguay, the French and Danish colonies, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela without resorting to the mass murder and destruction of war. (See Jim Powell. Greatest Emancipations: How the West Ended Slavery; Robert Fogel and Stanley Engerman, Time on the Cross: The Economics of American Negro Slavery; and Slavery in New York, published by the New York Historical Society).

New Hampshire lawmakers question Obama’s citizenship

The Washington Times ^ | 1/9/12 | Dave Boyer

Posted on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 11:27:09 AM by Scanian

CONCORD, N.H. — President Obama is on the Democratic ballot for New Hampshire’s primary on Tuesday, despite the efforts of some Republican state legislators who argue the president doesn’t qualify as a “natural-born citizen.”

“I don’t know where he was born, and I really don’t care,” said state Rep. Larry Rappaport of Colebrook, N.H., “but I think fraud is being perpetrated on the citizens of New Hampshire.”

Mr. Rappaport and several GOP colleagues have been trying to get the New Hampshire secretary of state to remove Mr. Obama from the ballot. Their argument isn’t focused on the old question of the president’s birthplace, but on a clause in the U.S. Constitution that requires a candidate to be a “natural-born citizen.”

The Republican legislators and their supporters say Mr. Obama doesn’t meet the definition of “natural-born citizen” because his father was Kenyan. They are relying on an 1875 Supreme Court decision that said a natural-born citizen is someone whose parents are both U.S. citizens at the time of his or her birth.

The media shills put forth this effort to further marginalize and diminish the serious electoral threat to the GOP power brokers the Paul grass roots insurgency campaign represents. BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Joe in Albany as we start with you on Open Line Friday today. Hello.

CALLER: (whispering) Hey, Rush. I was telling that… I was saying that the Republican Party are the biggest affirmative action organization for plaque people in America. As long as you’re willing to pretend that, you know, racism doesn’t exist and betray your race, you’re welcomed with open arms. I mean, imagine if, say, Ruth Bader Ginsburg had, uhhh, $700,000 in spousal income from MoveOn.org and then they ruled on some huge bill that MoveOn.org had before them — say, like the Citizens United decision — and Ruth Bader Ginsburg had fraudulently not declared her spouse’s income, uh, from MoveOn.org.

There would be impeachment hearings in the House right now. We’re not seeing any of that with Clarence Thomas, and that’s exactly what happened. His wife took $700,000 from the Heritage Foundation. He went and ruled on Citizens United, which Heritage Foundation had a hand in, and, duhhh, it’s radio silence from you guys.

RUSH: What did Heritage have to do with Citizens United?

CALLER: Uh… She… His… Uh… Ummm… His wife worked at Heritage.

RUSH: What did Heritage have to do with Citizens United?

CALLER: They wanted to see it repealed.

RUSH: So? So did I.

CALLER: (silence) So his wife took –

RUSH: You know what? I’ve had dinner with Ginni Thomas, and I think I bought it.

CALLER: So you’re telling me that Ruth Bader Ginsburg could take $700,000 from MoveOn.org, rule on an issue –

RUSH: I’m gonna tell you here that if you want to open this door, I’ll guarantee you I can find more examples of this kind of chicanery on the left than you can cite. I can find more conflict of interest. Plus, this is the problem with taking calls from people like you: I don’t know how to deal with people like you. There’s no talking to you about the issues. You want to get rid of Clarence Thomas because you know a worthless, unconstitutional piece of legislation might be overturned — might be declared unconstitutional — and you don’t want that. You want an unconstitutional piece of legislation to be declared legal and constitutional.

So you’ll do whatever you have to, follow whatever pied piper type device you get from these left-wing blogs that you read in order to support the supposition that what’s illegal should be made legal. There is nothing constitutional about the individual mandate, and – all these little side issues that you want to try to come up with here to distract from what’s really going on is exactly why this country is never gonna make any progress whatsoever as long as people like you have any power. Because your aim is to tear down this country and to destroy it and remake it in an image that nobody wants and nobody would enjoy. This is pure inanity. Snerdley, you asked me, “What would you say to these protestors?” It’s like talking to a brick wall. Anyway, who’s next? Where we going next? Louie in Denver. Welcome to the EIB Network, sir. Hello.

CALLER: Dittos, Rush. Herman Cain‘s comment about a third of the blacks will think for themselves? I don’t think it’s a black thing. It crosses all lines. I’m white. I’ve tried for a long time to talk about conservative topics with my friends, and they all agree on the surface, but when you ask ‘em specifics, when it comes down to it, I ask you to vote Republican, “No, I’m a Democrat.” So the brainwashing is everywhere. I’ll state a poll. With today’s economy going on, with what’s going on in today’s economy, how could 40% of the people be happy or approve of what the president’s do doing.

RUSH: Well –

FDR, like all of the social progressive presidents (and one unconstitutional usurper) before and after him, did not oversee a free market economy through a “truly-free and honest” free enterprise system. They manipulated the US economic system based on the tenets of dictatorial mercantilism. The mercantile economic system, created by Alexander Hamilton and fashioned by America’s first dictator, Abraham Lincoln, the Jacobin Whigs and the Free Soilers who merged into what was named the Republican Party. Mercantilism prospered through the Civil War as Lincoln waged a civil war not to end slavery, but to destroy States rights and force the States to succumb to the edicts of the federal government. But it was a small victory since the States retained the power to kill any bill offered by the House (although the Jacobin Republicans unconstitutionally ratified the 14th Amendment that bound the States with the same Bill of Rights restrictions the bound the federal government.

(The following, while not pertinent to the discussion on contemporary politicians attempting to further erase the Constitution, sheds additional light on the fraudulent ramifications of the 16th and 17th Amendments which is pertinent to this discussion..) When the Jacobins proposed the 14th Amendment, only the northeastern industrial States, which wanted federal supremacy over the States from the birth of the Republic, flawlessly voted to ratify it. The States viewed the 14th Amendment as the abrogation of States rights. In the South, the Amendment was ratified at the point of a bayonet. Fearful of the federal government which had just concluded a 4-year civil war to establish federal supremacy, most of the States which submitted flawed resolutions of the proposed 14th Amendment knew they would have to be rejected by Secretary of State William H. Seward. Instead, Seward simply ignored the flaws which made almost every resolution a different amendment, and certified the 14th Amendment as lawfully ratified on July 28, 1868.

Why would the States do that when they could have simply rejected it? Because the federal government………………….

The Birth of American Imperialism by Thomas DiLorenzo

September 22, 2011 1 comment

…..Stromberg’s analysis of the importance of the Spanish-American War as a “trial run” for American imperialism is an astute analysis, but the real trial run actually occurred more than thirty years earlier during what Stromberg called the U.S. government’s war against “internal independent nations,” i.e., the Plains Indians.

That is where the real template of American imperialism was set, with its demonization of the Indians as inhuman “wild beasts”; the mass murder of everyone and everything, women, children, and animals included; and the policy of unconditional surrender. Indeed, it may even be argued that the War to Prevent Southern Independence was inself a “trial run” for the twenty-five year war on the Plains Indians.

Sherman’s War of Extermination

As soon as the War to Prevent Southern Independence was concluded the U.S. government commenced a new war against the Plains Indians. On June 27, 1865, barely two months after the end of the war, General William Tecumseh Sherman was given command of the Military District of the Missouri, which was one of five military divisions the government had divided the country into.

There was never any attempt to hide the fact that the war against the Plains Indians was, first and foremost, an indirect subsidy to the government-subsidized transcontinental railroads. Railroad corporations were the financial backbone of the Republican Party, which essentially monopolized national politics from 1865 to 1913, beginning with the election of the first Republican President, the renowned railroad industry lawyer/lobbyist, Abraham Lincoln of the Illinois Central……

The Real Lincoln by Thomas J. DiLorenzo

January 7, 2010 by Bob Livingston

Although he is called the Great Emancipator, Abraham Lincoln embarked on a war that led to 620,000 deaths and the destruction of 40 percent of the American economy, not to free those held in slavery, but to centralize power in Washington, create “the American System” of Henry Clay and build an empire.

So says Thomas J. DiLorenzo, author of The Real Lincoln, which has the subtitle: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda and an Unnecessary War.

DiLorenzo turns the myth that surrounds Lincoln on its head, and uses Lincoln’s own words and actions to do so. DiLorenzo writes that:

“According to one source, more than 16,000 books have been written on virtually every aspect of Lincoln’s private and public life. But much of what has been written about Lincoln is myth… Anyone who delves into this literature with an open mind and an interest in the truth cannot help but be struck by the fantastic lengths to which an entire industry of ‘Lincoln scholars’ has gone to perpetuate countless myths and questionable interpretations of events.”

DiLorenzo examines many of those myths in this book.

Lincoln was a proponent of Henry Clay’s American System (taxpayer subsidies for railroads and corporations and infrastructure improvements) for 28 years prior to becoming president. As a Whig Party and later Republican Party activist, he pushed that agenda.

He thought of himself as the heir to the Hamiltonian political tradition, which sought a much more centralized governmental system, one that would plan economic development with corporate subsidies financed by protectionist tariffs and the printing of money by the central government…………………….

…In the end of your book, you talk about how things don’t seem to change. What do you see as the future of America? Do you see us getting worse before it gets better?

Right now, the people in charge of the government remind us every day that they are the Party of Lincoln. They’ve stretched Lincoln’s philosophy to say that not only should we wage war within our own country ostensibly for democracy, as Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address, but we should wage war all around the world to force democracy on people, whether they want it or not. Not just in Iraq. They’re talking about invading the entire Middle East, for starters, to bring democracy there, as though it were any of our business.

That is empire. Any country that has had a big empire like that has always been bankrupted. If that’s the road we’re going on, I think it’s the road that Lincoln started us on. Look at what the same government did. Immediately after the War, they commenced a campaign of ethnic genocide against the Plains Indians. That was all part of this plan to have a continental empire.

Now, these people think we need to have a world empire. It’s un-American. The Founding Fathers would have fought another revolution over this.

What do you think will happen?

It seems to me that the American public has been dumbed down so much by the government schools that they’re just going to go along with this until it either bankrupts us all or we make enough enemies out there that September 11 will seem like child’s play. You can’t do this without making a lot of enemies in the world. That’s my biggest fear — that we won’t get rid of these Sons of Lincoln who run the Republican Party.

I agree with Clyde Wilson that America can’t be saved or returned to its roots until the Republican Party is destroyed…..

Do you expect it to ever go back, as the United States?

Seriously, the only way it could, would be secession. If a big chunk of the United States actually seceded from the federal government and pained it a bit and deprived it of a large amount of its revenue. Otherwise, how else could it possibly happen?

Could it possibly return to limited government roots? I can’t see how it could possibly happen.

I’m not very optimistic anymore. I was more optimistic when communism fell. I never thought I’d see communism collapse in my lifetime. But, I was thinking for a while, well, if it could happen there, we can get rid of our rotten system. But, the Republican Party, which is in power and in control of things, worked out the direction. They, now, no longer oppose the welfare state. In fact, they’re expanding it because they want to win the votes from all the people on welfare.

Sons of Lincoln. I keep having to say it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us.

You’re welcome.

The TV Watch: Sharpton Brings His Pulpit to MSNBC [Surprise: NY Times criticizes MSNBC]

Peter Kramer/MSNBC

snip… “I’m going to say what I mean and mean what I say.”

And that may be the problem with Mr. Sharpton’s cable news pulpit: what he means to say is in lockstep with every other MSNBC evening program, making the stretch between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. a nonstop lecture on liberal values and what is wrong with the Republican Party.

…but other progressive hosts, particularly Rachel Maddow, have continued to attract viewers — not nearly as many as routinely watch Fox News, but more than for less partisan shows on CNN. MSNBC, which found success by preaching to the converted, has now hired an actual preacher.

snip…

snip…And in the evening at least, MSNBC is less a news provider than a carousel of liberal opinion — potential conflicts of interest are swept aside in the swirl of excitable guests.

Unfortunately, so is conflict. There is almost no real debate on any of these evening shows: a conservative is brought on and put on the spot, then in a different segment two people who agree with the host on a given issue answer the host’s questions, usually, with words like “you’re so right.”

On Monday, Mr. Sharpton followed the patented formula, bringing in two experts who agreed with him that recent efforts in North Carolina and other states to stiffen voter-identity requirements and restrict early voting would mostly affect those minorities and younger voters who turned out in record numbers for Barack Obama in 2008. Mr. Sharpton called it a “poll tax by another name.”

It’s an interesting issue, and not one that other MSNBC talk shows have addressed with the same degree of passion, but it would have been helpful to viewers to also learn how proponents of voting restrictions justify the legislation…………..

BLOGGER.GUNNY.G.1984( ): LINCOLN’S MARXISTS by Al Benson, Jr. and Walter Kennedy:

The Republican Party roots are, without a doubt, embedded in Communism. Their second candidate for office, Mr. Lincoln‘s actions prove his acceptance of all Communism could give him. When one compares the works of Adolph Hitler with those of Lincoln, their commonalities become shockingly evident.

The Communist 1848ers arrived in America. And thus began the story of lies that exploded into the bloodiest, most unnecessary war our America has ever known. Even in this year of 2011 there remains an unending story full of sound and fury signifying the deliberate, cold-blooded murder of American women and children, the murder of imprisoned Confederate soldiers and the U.S. Constitution. Today it has an added “New World Order,” twist which is pro- United Nations, pro-hedonism, anti-Christian-anti-God, anti-family, the anti states-right, and, of course anti-Constitution.

Benson and Kennedy, clearly and succinctly -without any fanciful literary pirouetting, present the facts, prove the relationships of the Marxist-Communists with dishonest, obviously non-Christian Abe Lincoln………

U.S.A.: Home of the broke [Half-truths, incompetence and the American way]

August 7, 2011 Leave a comment

The United States of America, touted as the world’s oldest continuous democracy, as well as one with the shortest written constitution — a preamble, seven articles and 27 amendments — is also a nation based on a political structure that is becoming less worthy of replication.

Its founding fathers would no doubt be aghast by the depths to which their vision has devolved.

But devolve it has.

Because of its electoral structure, it is a nation that is forever in election mode, with virtually no breathing room in which to get down to the nation’s business without partisan politics ruling the debate and blowing apart even the sanest of objectives.

The good of the people seems irrelevant to those of us observing the debasement of American-style democracy from the relative sanity north of the 49th parallel.

As of January 2010, the annual salary of each member of the U.S. Congress and Senate was a comparatively modest $174,000.

Yet it costs millions in personal wealth and/or donations to run each campaign, with many candidates willing to bankroll or bankrupt themselves in order to get elected. As a result, it’s an ego-saturated Petri dish for corruption and partisanship, with the only real goal being the achievement of power and re-election at any cost.

The people are merely votes.

Why, for example, did it take so long for Washington to reach a debt-management agreement?

Why did it have to come so close to the witching-hour midnight deadline when the debt-saddled U.S. government would have passed its legal authority to borrow more money?

The answer is complex, but simple.

It was all about partisan politics.

It was about winning points with Washington insiders.

But it was not about the people.

One can argue U.S. President Barack Obama has failed miserably to live up to the hype that his purple-prose vision would overcome his patented inexperience, and it would be an argument of tangible merit.

He has become a dysfunctional president, without question, but he is being ably aided and abetted by two dysfunctional houses of grandstanders — one being the Democrat-controlled Senate, and the other the Republican-controlled House.

The only sane thinkers in that collective were the Tea Party Republicans who, despite arguing logically the best way to stave off unaffordable debt is to first stop spending, and a debt-ceiling limit should be contingent on a balanced-budget amendment to the U.S. constitution, were nonetheless pilloried as a cabal of right-wing lunatics, even to the point of being labelled as “terrorists” by buffoonery-prone U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden.

This shot by Biden enabled the left-wing media in the States to follow suit.

New York Times columnist Tom Friedman, for example, described the Tea Partiers as the “Hezbollah faction” of the Republican party, while CNN’s Fareed Zakaria claimed America had been “hijacked” by the Tea Party and the Republicans, as a whole, were “fundamentally anti-democratic.”

So, what did the debt deal accomplish?

Well, it accomplished only one thing. It postponed political accountability for the fiscal mismanagement of the United States until after the 2012 presidential election.

Dodging that bullet was all that mattered to the politicians.

While the agreement would relieve the U.S. deficit by $3 trillion in exchange for increasing the $14.3-trillion debt ceiling, it also takes the debt crisis off the table for 22 months, a move which stinks of both out-of-sight, out-of-mind manipulation and almost criminal procrastination.

No cynic is needed to do the math, and nor was the American public fooled — at least for now.

According to the Washington-based Pew Research Centre, 72% of Americans polled saw the scenario as “ridiculous, disgusting, stupid, frustrating, childish, crazy.”

And they are not wrong.
