Rush Limbaugh is engaged in a very public war with Cumulus Media, the radio network that runs his show on 40 stations, including WABC in New York.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Limbaugh and Cumulus must renegotiate their contract terms by the end of the year, so it’s not surprising that they’re jockeying for leverage.

But a source tells us that Cumulus has less to lose in this battle than most people think, and may even gain financially from Limbaugh’s departure.

First, the back story: Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey recently told investors that the ad boycott of Limbaugh’s show — after Rush called a Georgetown college student a “slut” on air because she favored contraception coverage in healthcare — may have cost him up to $5.5 million in sales.

Another source in Cumulus just leaked to Radio Ink that 48 out of 50 of its advertisers had “no Rush” instructions on their media placements.

 

Limbaugh fired back, saying that Dickey is blaming him for his own sales failings. He’s threatened to pull his show from Cumulus, which has a reported 15 million-person audience and $363 million in ad sales running on it.

After the call, he mused that some evenings when everyone was asleep, he’d sip an adult beverage and think about possibly buying some time on network TV to try and reach Americans who don’t get info anywhere else. (Snerdly cracked that he could get that time cheaper on NBC.)

Rush Limbugh recently threw a fit on his radio show over an appearance by Michael Scheuer on the FOX News Channel (as did Sean Hannity, who was even more apoplectic than Limbaugh). Michael Scheuer is the former CIA head of the bin Laden unit. Limbaugh was at his sarcastic and bombastic name-calling worst in responding to Scheuer’s comments.

What on earth did Michael Scheuer say to cause such an emotional explosion of bombast?, one might ask. Well, when asked by the host of a FOX News show about what might motivate Muslims from the Middle East to harm Americans, the man the CIA put in charge of the “bin Laden unit” said,

 

 

 

 

 

“People don’t like being invaded or bombed,” and they sometimes retaliate. This of course is perfectly reasonable and understandable. It’s called “blowback.”

 

 

 

 

 

He reminded the FOX host that Muslims have long protested the American military presence in the Muslim country of Saudi Arabia; the invasion and occupation of Iraq; the killing of thousands of Iraqi civilians; the statement by U.N. Ambasador Albright that a half million dead Iraqi children was “a price we are willing to pay” to achieve our political objectives; the U.S. government’s support for the government of Israel in its wars against Muslims; and the bombing and killing of civilians in numerous other Muslim countries, most recently in Mali and Libya under the Obama regime.

Rush Limbaugh said that for the first time he was ashamed of his country and his words made the top Drudge headline and generated a ton of comments from talking heads in Washington.

 

‘Ashamed’ isn’t the word I’d use but I share Limbaugh’s frustration with the endless lies told by members of both parties so that nothing ever changes but I believe he’s being disingenuous.

 

We’ve never been fooled by the lies the politicians throw at us. Rush is just too polite to say is that he’s confounded by the stupidity of the American people who do fall for them.

Now for his work history. He was absent when Americans were being killed in Benghazi, Libya. He was absent and had to be brought in from the golf course during the Osama Bin Laden raid. He was absent from the funeral of the great American sniper Chris Kyle, who died while trying to help fellow vets. He has been absent from the conversations concerning America’s fiscal and employment problems. Instead, he concentrates on things that will give more perks to him and his fellow welfare recipients.

Jindal and Paul Ryan have already done it, Rand Paul’s probably still too close to the rEVOLution for Republican leaders to be comfortable with him in a spot like this, and Chris Christie would just end up talking about how terrific Obama’s speech was. Half the reason party leaders are pushing amnesty, I’m convinced, is because Rubio’s that good in front of a mic and this issue gives him access to lots and lots of microphones. “If Petraeus goes in there and says anything different than what he said on Sept. 13, do you know the world of hurt that he’s in?” Limbaugh said. “What did he say on Sept. 13 — or whenever the testimony was — he said it was the video.
