Gunny G: It Happened One Sunday By Jim “RATs” Ratliff H-3-5 Marines ~ Korea!
Here’s an old one I just happened to find on an old webpage of mine…
*****
June 1, 2005
Here’s one I received a few years ago from Marine Jim Ratliff, now deceased.
About four or five years ago when I was new to the net, I was soliciting stories for my Marine Vignettes/Tales Of The Corps webpages. I got an e-mail from Jim about that time, and he advised that he was then putting out a newsletter for H-3-5 News which was his old company from the Korean War days. His hands were full already w/the newsletter, but his newsletter contained many stories from H-3-5 Marines; and he invited me to post the stories to my webpages, if I would like to do so.
I e-mailed Jim back, “you bet, I want them!
I did post many of the H-3-5 stories, and they are still on Gunny G’s…for anyone who would like to see them. Jim had been successful in rounding up many of the Marines and Navy Corpsmen from his old H-3-5 days.

Controversial Billboard Message Now On Bumper Stickers
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – A North Texas
billboard that garnered national attention for its election message, is expanding from the side of local highway, to highways across the
nation. It’s moved off the board to bumper stickers, and even t-shirts, after reports about the ad spread across the internet.
Navy vet shot by deputy in own backyard—family seeks answers
The brother of a Navy veteran shot by a deputy in her own backyard wants the sheriff’s department to admit its mistake and take responsibility for the incident.
Jennifer Orey, 36, was shot Sunday in a surprise encounter with two sheriff’s deputies who were searching for a man reportedly in the area wearing a ski mask, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Orey was in her pajamas in her yard around 10:30 p.m. because she heard noises and thought it was her ex-husband, the newspaper reports.

…..Additionally, Bill O’Reilly on his 7/23 show reported the attorney for the Holmes family in San Diego commented the mother said, “You have the right person, I’m his mother.” Did the call come in the middle of the night? Did the mother fear something happened to her son? The media again conveniently left off the “I am his mother,” which suggested the mother may have been fearful something of this nature would happen.
Another Good Reason To Avoid Hospitals by Jack D. Douglas (“You do not argue with doctors or police and you must be submissive in demeanor at all times. “)
Doctors are like the police: they can be very helpful in some situations, but are inherently dangerous and should be avoided as much as possible. You do not argue with doctors or police and you must be submissive in demeanor at all times. They insist on being called Doctor, even when you have a doctorate and full professorship and are three times their age and they call you “Jack.” That name puts you down at the bottom of the totem pole on purpose. You must bow and scrape and say “Yassah, Maasah!” like the slaves did. But be aware they are very often very wrong and dangerous, like slave drivers. Slaves had a secret, underground of knowledge and wisdom and support against the Masters. You must do the same.

Republicans blast Pentagon for allowing military uniforms in gay pride parade
Republican lawmakers are blasting the Pentagon‘s decision to allow troops to march in uniform at a San Diego gay pride parade last week.
Two senior Republicans on the House and Senate Armed Services committees said Tuesday that the Pentagon was out of line to grant the one-time exemption that allowed military uniforms in the parade.
Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) said the Pentagon made a “dangerous exception” to its policy of not allowing military uniforms in parades. In a statement, the Armed Forces Readiness subcommittee chairman said that the decision was a made to advance the Obama administration’s social agenda.
“I am calling on the DOD to halt these dangerous exceptions to policy for political purposes. This decision was an outrageous and blatantly political determination issued solely to advance this Administration’s social agenda,” Forbes said in a statement Tuesday.
“Sadly, this is yet another violation in what has become a pattern of this Administration’s assault on the longstanding history of the Department of Defense as a nonpolitical organization,” he said.
Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) wrote a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta asking for an explanation behind making the exemption in light of the military’s “unambiguous regulations” to preserve its apolitical stance.

James Holmes, the alleged “Joker” gunman, described his fascination with altered states of mind in a lecture to other students, and dosed up on prescription medication before the atrocity, it emerged on Sunday.
The first video footage of the suspect showed him as an awkward, nervous 18-year-old giving a talk at a science summer camp in San Diego on “temporal illusions”. It also emerged that in the days before the attack, Holmes, a cannabis smoker, joined a dating website seeking women for “sexy times” and also tried to join a gun club.
New in ‘gay’ parade: U.S. troops in uniform
In what appears to be an extraordinary reversal of military policy, members of the U.S. armed forces say they have been given permission by their commanding officers to march in a “gay pride” parade Saturday – while wearing their service-issued uniforms.

WASHINGTON, DC – DECEMBER 02: U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates prepares to testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee about the military’s ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy on Capitol Hill December 2, 2010 in Washington, DC. Gates announced earlier this week that a comprehensive study found that allowing gay men and women to serve openly in the United States armed forces presents a low risk to the military’s effectiveness, even at a time of war, and that 70 percent of service members believe that the impact of repealing the law would be either positive, mixed or of no consequence at all. Meanwhile, WND has learned, one of the top officers who approved the decision has since entered retirement.

Gunny G’s Marines History and Traditions: Parachute Accidents: Silk Chutes and Hard Fighting
…..Three other men died in Marine Corps jumping accidents not related to the performance of the parachute. Two men drowned after landing in water; one at Norfolk, Virginia, and one at New River, North Carolina. The final fatality occurred when a New River trainee lost his nerve just as he approached the door of the plane.
He moved out of the line of jumpers, but his static line became tangled with the next man to go out. The non-jumper’s parachute opened while he was inside the plane and the billowing chute slammed him against the aircraft body hard enough to wreck the door and sever his spine.
The most unusual accident occurred near San Diego, California, on 15 May 1941. Second Lieutenant Walter A. Osipoff and 11 enlisted men of Company A were making a practice jump over Kearney Mesa. Everyone else had exited the plane and he threw out a cargo pack, which possibly tangled in his static line.
His parachute opened prematurely while he was still in the door of the plane; it billowed outside the aircraft and pulled him out, but the canopy and suspension lines tangled in the bundle of static lines streaming beside the transport. For a moment the cargo pack, Osipoff and his partially opened parachute were all suspended from the cable that held the static lines.

Marine Vignettes #53–56 (Salty Marines…)
I believe that anyone that joined the Marine Corps has a strong desire to look “Salty.” The epitome was the Marine with one stripe up and a hashmark down, wearing a China occupation Ribbon.
We spent endless hours with Brasso and steel wool rubbing ever so carefully the black enamel from the emblem, shining belt tips and buckles. Going to a local tailor to have the center cloth cut out of the garrison cap and spit polishing boondockers.
During the period of 48–49 they issued the cheapest, non-descript utilities, not the herringbone of yesteryear. We would press on the globe and anchor and USMC on the left pocket, also the utility cap. You just had to look ‘Salty.’

Residents of Minneapolis will be reminded this weekend that the government is determined to keep the bogus war on terror alive and also relive the overblown anthrax attack of 2001.
On Thursday, the U.S. Postal Service (or government-enforced monopoly) teamed up with the Minnesota Department of Health and announced they will be delivering empty pill bottles in the metropolitan area on Saturday.
“It’s the country’s first full-scale test for postal workers to distribute medicine in case of an anthrax outbreak or other medical emergency,” theAssociated Press explains. “Plans for similar practice runs are in the works in Boston, San Diego, Philadelphia and Louisville, Ky.”
Volunteers will be accompanied by cops during the drill. “The drill will take place Sunday in parts of Minneapolis, St. Paul, Golden Valley, Crystal and Robbinsdale. Volunteers and police officers will handle the delivery. The Health Department says more than 300 volunteers are trained for the task.”

TSA Treats 95-Year-Old Air Force Veteran Like a Terrorist $300 Stolen | EUTimes.net
Wheelchair-bound 95-year-old US Air Force veteran Omer Petti and his 85-year-old partner Madge Woodward were treated like terrorists by TSA agents at San Diego International airport, ostensibly so TSA workers could separate them from $300 dollars in cash which subsequently went missing reported the Daily Mail yesterday.
“Can you imagine an 85-year-old lady and 95-year-old retired Air Force Major in wheelchairs being treated like terrorists?” Petti asked the Detroit News’ Marney Keenan.
Given the TSA’s recent history – yes – veterans and old people are two of the federal agency’s primary targets and are routinely subjected to intense harassment and abuse.
After Petti had removed his shoes, belt, clothing and other accessories he was ordered by a TSA agent to place a money clip containing $300 in folded bills into its own separate bin.
After walking through a metal detector, both Petti and Woodward were patted down, with Woodward being taken to a separate room for extra “screening” due to the fact that residue from her nitroglycerin heart pills had set off an alarm……
“When I was patted down, I’ve never before been touched in every part of my body before,” Woodward said.

As promised, two patriotic groups flew an “Impeach Obama” banner over the Rose Parade on New Year’s Day. The Impeach Obama Tea Party and Stop Obama Now – San Diego flew a banner, with 12-feet-tall letters, over the parade and surrounding highways during the well-attended annual event. Roger Ogden, the primary organizer behind the flights, e-mailed this author that FAA regulations limited visibility over the parade itself but the banner was heavily visible outside the immediate parade route.

The U.S. Navy is beginning a worldwide video campaign to let sailors know about the dangers of “Spice”. This drug is often described as synthetic marijuana. The problem for the navy is that Spice comes from many manufacturers, varies widely in its purity and potency, and has unpredictable effects. The navy is particularly concerned about its use by crews of ships at sea. Sailors who are off-duty often find themselves being called to handle an emergency. That can be a problem if you’ve just done a bit of Spice.

Subtle acts reshape military society amid [DADT] repeal
Night-long celebrations will mark the final countdown to the historic end of the U.S. military’s ban on openly gay troops, and even more partying will take place once it is lifted Tuesday. But in many ways change is already here.
Countless subtle acts over the past months have been reshaping the military’s staunchly traditional society in preparation for the U.S. armed forces‘ biggest policy shift in decades. Supporters of repeal compare it to the racial de-segregation of troops more than 60 years ago.
For some gay service members, the fear of discovery and reprisals dissipated months ago when a federal court halted all investigations and discharge proceedings under “don’t ask, don’t tell,” while military leaders prepared the armed services for its end.
Several have come out to their peers and commanders.
A few have since placed photographs of their same-sex partners on their desks and attended military barbecues and softball games with their significant others. In San Diego, about 200 active-duty personnel — both gay and heterosexual — made up the nation’s first military contingency to participate in a Gay Pride march this summer, carrying banners identifying their branches of service. An Army soldier had tears, saying she was touched by the thousands cheering them on, after hiding her identity for so long.

Tea Party Organizer denounced by ‘Patriots’ for exposing Black Messiah.
Some self-described ‘patriots’ have denounced an independent Tea Party organizer in San Diego for exposing the Black Nationalism of Ted Hayes, a activist from Los Angeles. They are Barbara Coe of the California Coalition for Immigration Reform (CCIR), Chelene Nightingale a candidate of the American Independent Party for Governor in the 2010 election, Jeff Schwilk of the San Diego Minutemen and Gary Gonsalves of Stop Taxing US (a Tea Party org). Threats of violent retaliation, as well as a campaign of personal attack, have also been made, in particular by Jeff Schwilk of the San Diego Minutemen.
Theodor (Ted) Hayes, who appears by his dress and the rhetoric posted on his website to be an adherent of the Black Hebrew Israelite belief system, was invited to speak at the Tax Day Tea Party on April 15, 2011 in Oceanside, California in North San Diego County. He is called the “Rasta Republican,” due to his dreadlocks. Black Hebrew Israelite-ism can be considered to be part of the greater Black Nationalist movement, whose members generally worship certain leaders as gods and see white society as satanic or literally the Devil, doomed to destruction in the black nationalist version of the End Times, when the black (non-white) races will rebel against white rule. The doctrine is much like a Jewish version of Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam. Just as the NOI cooperates with white liberals, when it is to their advantage, some Black Hebrew and other black nationalist groups have a long history of cooperation with white conservatives and even white nationalists/racists to achieve common agendas.

MILITARY: Marine Corps commandant vows to boost number of black officers
Gen. James Amos told about 500 members of the National Naval Officers Association meeting in San Diego that he was “heartbroken” when he examined the status of blacks in the Marine Corps shortly after becoming commandant last fall.
“We’re just not there,” the 64-year-old four-star general said. “We’re not the face of society.”
Amos, who became the 35th commandant on Oct. 22, said black officers numbered 5.6 percent of the total number of officers in 2010.
The general said that although blacks make up about 13 percent of the U.S. population, they comprise 10 percent of the 202,000-troop Marine Corps.
“It’s not a quota I’m after, but I’ve got to pay attention to the numbers,” Amos told the naval officers association, a group made up mostly of U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard officers. “I just know I’m not happy with where we are.”
The Marine Corps promoted just 60 blacks among 1,073 promotions to the rank of lieutenant in 2010, he said. Amos said he wants to raise that 3.5 percent figure to at least 5 percent by the end of this year.
“We’re changing our entire approach,” he said, striding across the floor of a hotel ballroom as he made his remarks. “We’re going to improve this year, next year and the year after that.”
The Marine Corps is increasing its outreach to colleges and universities and establishing ties with athletic groups and other organizations to recruit more blacks, he said.

…While written with the purpose of raising taxes, this legislation will prove to be extremely counterproductive for the state’s economy. Amazon.com, one of the online retailers which would be affected by the Internet tax, has already started to cut ties with its in-state advertising affiliates, which are small businesses dependent upon these contracts. More than 25,000 affiliates will be affected by the California law’s passage.
One such affiliate, Ken Rockwell from San Diego, has already stated his intentions to move his photography business out of the state as a result of the Internet tax. Of this, Rockwell stated “Will it be Las Vegas or Scottsdale or Ensenada? It’s a question of where, not if.” Thus, Governor Brown is driving much-needed jobs out of a state which is already suffering from an 11.7% unemployment rate.
This pattern has been witnessed in other states that have already implemented the Internet tax, such as Rhode Island and North Carolina. In these states, there has been no extra revenue generated. In fact, their respective economies have only worsened. Online retailers made the practical decision to move their business out of the state to avoid being subject to the tax, taking jobs and investment with them…

Has the Media Whitewashed the latest Islamic Terrorist Attack on the US?

It happened in the early morning hours last Saturday. Full details are just now leaking out…Looking at all the various reports, eyewitness video, and from reading between the lines of mainstream media, it is now clear: San Diego was just the target of an Islamic extremist Terrorist attack.
Here’s how the NBC affiliate described the scene:At 1:54 a.m., an Emerald Cab driver jumped a curb and plowed through a group of people standing outside the popular Stingaree downtown nightclub… of what firefighters and police officers described as a “melee.”
“It was so scary when I realized what had actually happened,” said Guy Handy, a nearby resident.
A witness who wished not to be identified said “there were women and men just lying on the ground, just everywhere.”After the initial media flurry died down, his real name started to emerge: Osama Hassan El-Darandaly.But that wasn’t all. Many mainstream media reports described the scene as simply an accident, by a drowzy driver.
AP even reported “Cabbie out of hospital after crash that hurt 35″ implying that El-Darandaly himself was one of the ones “hurt” in the crash.
In actuality, we now know 36 San Diegans were injured, 22 of them seriously, 1 women from Encinitas critically injured. She had her leg completely torn off after El-Darandaly pinned her to the wall in his Cab…The suspect is “devoutly Muslim.
