In a statement released on Monday, the uncompromising libertarian lawmaker said that the federal government should not try to ‘pursue unobtainable safety’ and claimed that Democrats and Republicans have ‘zero moral authority to legislate against violence.’

‘This is the world of government provided “security,” a world far too many Americans now seem to accept or even endorse,’ the 77-year-old congressman wrote on his website. ‘School shootings, no matter how horrific, do not justify creating an Orwellian surveillance state in America.’

Calls for increased gun control are being renewed in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. school shooting last Friday, and President Barack Obama indicated he would pursue measures to stop such events from happening in the future. Obama said at a memorial service Sunday that he would “use whatever power this office holds” to prevent such massacres.

In yet another high-profile public shooting, 20 children and six adults were killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School when a gunman forced his way in and began firing. Obama spoke strongly about the failure of the country to protect its children, and suggested his administration would explore new efforts to better regulate guns.

Now I’ve been watching this news for most of the day. Remarkably, it seems to change every few minutes.

First, we had the name change. Who exactly did the shooting? Ryan? Adam? Someone else?

Then, we hear that someone in camo garb or something was apprehended in the woods. When I first heard this, I assumed it was the brother and that was why there was confusion about the name.

But turns out that the brother was actually at work – and was not in the woods. So who was in the woods?

…..In the wake of this event, some very confusing details have surfaced in regards to the mainstream media‘s reports concerning the true nature of the events which took place inside the school.  The purpose of this write-up is merely to ask some very basic questions, as the media reports which have surfaced, when put together, seem to paint a very confusing picture.

The mother of Newtown school massacre gunman Adam Lanza was a survivalist who was stockpiling food because she thought the world economy was on the verge of collapse.

Nancy Lanza began hoarding such items because she feared that the financial crisis was going to bring about the end of civilized society.

She reportedly became ‘obsessed’ with guns and taught Adam how to shoot, but on Friday he turned on her and blasted the woman to death while she laid in her own bed.

Law enforcement sources told the Hartford Courant that she had not gotten up – and could have even been asleep – when her son killed her.

Let me list a few: The Pearl, Mississippi school shooting was stopped by the vice principal Joel Myrick with a Colt .45, The Appalachian School shooting was stopped by two students with handguns. Both of the above incidents were stopped by the armed citizens threatening the shooter without firing.

America now has its second worst mass shooting. And it, as usual, accompanied by calls for gun control. It’s no coincidence that we have had quite a few spree killings in such a short time. The lavish coverage of every shooting by the media encourages every shooter to think that he will be famous if he goes out and kills. And that is exactly what happens.

Our shooters are creatures of the media, not the NRA. A media that turns killers into celebrities and then warns that the only way to stop more shootings is by cracking down on firearms.

…Yes, yes, The Speech was fine. Full of rainbows and unicorns and signifying nothing. But did the whole thing have to be turned into a campagin rally? Were the names of the victims listed on the back, like a rock band’s tour schedule? Faugh! This is appalling.

Do you remember anything like this happening at the memorial for the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting? Nope. Columbine? The Amish West Nickel Mines School shooting? Nope.

Sure wish my great grandmother had grabbed one of these when she went to Gettysburg…
