What the Media Choose Not to Know about Trayvon

June 8, 2012 1 comment

Unnerved by an unspoken mix of political bias and racial queasiness, the major media have chosen to know as little about Trayvon Martin as they know about Barack Obama.

Official photographic portrait of US President...

The election of Barack Obama ushered in the use of political networking that hadn’t been seen before.

Amazingly, the message failed to register in the minds of the Republican candidates vying for votes as nominees. Instead of recognizing the potential that the Obama campaign exploited, Republican contenders have been raising huge capital contributions to support traditional speaking engagements and TV ads.

Even more amazing has been the recognition by the youth in both the Arab spring and in the American Occupy campaigns to use the Obama network success.

If, as Marshall McLuhan believed, “The media is the message”, it becomes imperative to fully understand networking as media with a message, especially when it comes to politics in large numbers.

Censorship (Photo credit: IsaacMao)

Facebook pays low-wage foreign workers to delete certain content based upon a censorship list. For example, Facebook deletes accounts created by Palestinian resistance groups.

Digg was caught censoring stories which were controversial or too critical of the government. See this andthis.

Now, even social media site Reddit – which helped launch the anti-Sopa Internet blackout and publicize GoDaddy’s slimy Sopa support – is doing the same thing.

As just one example, posts from this website are being censored by Reddit. Specifically, a friend of this site who has submitted stories to Reddit has received the following messages of rejection from a Reddit moderator named davidreiss666:

Kill Web Trackers Dead

February 15, 2012 Leave a comment

Here’s fair warning to all social media data scavengers, ad tracking companies, and analytics snoops on the InterWebs: There’s a new anti-tracking sheriff in town.

Online privacy company Abine Inc. last week unveiled a new browser widget called, appropriately enough, DoNotTrackPlus (because these days everything has to come with a plus sign — thank you, Google). I’ve been taking it for a spin this morning and I gotta say it’s pretty slick.

DHS Creates Accounts Solely to Monitor Social Networks

ABC News ^ | December 28, 2011 | OLIVIA KATRANDJIAN

An online privacy group is suing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security accusing it of not releasing records from the agency’s covert surveillance of Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites.

The DHS creates accounts solely to monitor social media sites and establish a system of records of the information gathered. The agency does not post information, seek to connect with other users, accept invitations to connect or interact with others according to a statement on their website.

The agency scans social media sites for a list of words that include “dirty bomb,” “hostage,” “exercise,” “task force,” “explosion,” “lockdown,” “riot,” “nuclear threat,” “brown out,” “meth lab,” “cain and abel” and “brute forcing.”

Several countries and cities, including North Korea and Mexico, are also flagged as key words.

In a statement, the DHS said that the National Operations Center (NOC) “will gather, store, analyze, and disseminate relevant and appropriate de-identified information to federal, state, local, and foreign governments, and private sector partners authorized to receive situational awareness and a common operating picture,” said the statement.

In April 2011, the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) requested records from the DHS of the agency’s social network monitoring program. The agency has an obligation to locate the records and notify the requestor if the records are available for release.

Don’t Worry, The Federal Reserve Just Wants To Be Your “Online Friend”

September 29, 2011 Leave a comment

According to CNBC, the Federal Reserve “is planning on monitoring what you say about it on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook”. Apparently we are not supposed to be alarmed though, because as the CNBC headline states, the Federal Reserve just “wants to be your Facebook friend“. In fact, the CNBC article says that anyone that feels threatened by the fact that the Federal Reserve will be monitoring what we say on Facebook and Twitter is just “paranoid“. Well, if it came out that Barack Obama was setting up a system that would identify “key bloggers” and monitor “billions of conversations” on the Internet to see what was being said about him, wouldn’t there be thousands of articles expressing outrage? Sure there would be. The Federal Reserve is supposed to be an independent central bank that is above politics. So why in the world would they need to perform “sentiment analysis” on what is being said about them on “Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Forums and YouTube“?………………………..

The Federal Reserve obviously intends to identify the negative things that are being said about it and the specific people that are saying those things. So is it really being “paranoid” to point out that all of this is more than a little bit creepy?

A system like this is not cheap. Apparently the Federal Reserve Bank of New York believes that gathering all of this information is very important. In recent years, criticism of the Federal Reserve has become very intense, and most of this criticism has been coming from the Internet. It has gotten to the point where the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has decided that it had better listen to what is being said and find out who is saying it.

“Social media listening platforms are solutions that gather data from various social media outlets and news sources. They monitor billions of conversations and generate text analytics based on predefined criteria. They can also determine the sentiment of a speaker or writer with respect to some topic or document.”

Prison Planet.com » UK Riots: Gov’t Mulls Kill Switch For Twitter & Facebook, Army On Streets

August 11, 2011 Leave a comment

The British government has today suggested that it is working with the intelligence agencies on a way of shutting down at will social media websites including Twitter, claiming that they were used by looters to organise and avoid police during the riots in London and elsewhere in the UK.

“Free flow of information can be used for good. But it can also be used for ill.” Prime Minister David Cameron said during today’s emergency meeting of Parliament.

“Everyone watching these horrific actions will be struck by how they were organised via social media.” Cameron said.

“We are working with the police, the intelligence services and industry to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these websites and services when we know they are plotting violence, disorder and criminality.” The Prime Minister added, without going into detail concerning how a block on such services would be applied.

During later questions to the Prime Minister, he suggested that government was considering whether it was feasible “to give the police the technology to trace people on Twitter or BBM or close it down”.

Cameron also announced that the home secretary will meet with representatives of Facebook, Twitter, and BlackBerry concerning the “responsibility” those companies have in preventing incitements to violence.

Although the notion that social media was used as a tool by rioters has been repeated ad infinitum by the media this week, the evidence to back up the claim is hard to find.

In the absence of such evidence, the government has suggested that misinformation and untruths spread on Twitter also constituted cause to consider a kill switch option.

Police have suggested that BlackBerry’s closed network Messenger service was used heavily by looters, with sources within the company having already revealed that Blackberry is “engaged with the authorities to assist in any way we can”.

Government eavesdroppers at the super secret Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) are reportedly working to provide police with information on the suspected rioters gleaned from messages they sent over the network.

Obama Regime Software Creates Fake Online Propaganda Profiles

February 25, 2011 Leave a comment

“The contract calls for the development of ‘Persona Management Software’ which would help the user create and manage a variety of distinct fake profiles online.

The job listing was discussed in recently leaked e-mails from the private security firm HBGary after an attack by internet activist last week.

According to the contract, the software would ‘protect the identity of government agencies‘ by employing a number of false signals to convince users that the poster is in fact a real person.

A single user could manage unique background information and status updates for up to 10 fake people from a single computer.”I don’t know if this was part of the high-tech dinner agenda that Obama had last week with the guys from Google; Steve Jobs from Apple was there.

Obviously this activity predates the dinner. So I don’t know if the dinner was about this or not. But are you surprised at all? Are you surprised that the…? Look at half of these leftist losers hanging around their homes all day in their underwear — blogging, posting, commenting or what have you — and perhaps each of them in charge of ten didn’t fake people. Nothing is real. Nothing, particularly and especially with people on the left. There have been people — you know, posters, people posting Obama comments — who were exposed as professionals.Paid mercenary professionals, not ordinary, average American people.

Folks, I’m here to tell you that the media, wherever you look — I don’t care if it’s books or television shows or movies, music, Internet, what have you, I’m telling you — is so artificially balanced. I should better say “artificially out of balance.”

During debates on the Banker Bailout Bill on the floor of Congress in 2008, Congressman Brad Sherman made a startling revelation “Many of us were told in private conversations that if we voted against this bill on Monday that the sky would fall, the market would drop 2 or 3000 points the first day and another couple of thousand points the second day and a few members were even told that there would be MARTIAL LAW IN AMERICA if we voted no.

“Plans to suspend the Constitution have been taking place behind the scenes under cover of ‘Continuity of Government Contigency’ plans first exposed in the mid 1980 and raised by Congressman Jack Brooks during the Iran-Contra hearings and squashed by hearing chairman Daniel Inouye, HI.US Army and Marine troops practice urban warfare training and population control in American cities in violation of the Posse Comitatus act.

DHS scoured social media sites during Obama inauguration for ‘items of interest’

October 15, 2010 2 comments

Computerworld – An electronic rights advocacy group is expressing concern over what it contends was an overly broad surveillance of social networking sites conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the days leading up to the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation EFF recently obtained documents pertaining to the DHS’s monitoring of social networking sites through a Freedom of Information Act FOIA lawsuit.

The documents show that the DHS established a unit called the Social Network Monitoring Center SNMC last year to scour social sites for signs of potential security threats during the presidential inauguration.

The Bankruptcy of Barack

The Obama Administration hopelessly blurred the lines between Reality television and politicsThe Obama Administration hopelessly blurred the lines between Reality television and politics, giving us a self-indulgent child in the Oval Office, who is always eager to pose for photos and be fawned upon, but does not understand that he has responsibilities, rather than unchecked powers.

The difference between Barack Obama and Levi Johnston is not in intelligence or ethics, it’s in marketability. Obama was the ultimate marketable candidate. And the equivalent of the economies of some small countries were spent marketing the hell out of him. But how do you market failure? And what do you tell customers when the product they bought turns out to have nothing inside? When Obama ran for office, his theme was that he had “New Ideas” to offer. Even more than the ubiquitous Hope and Change was the promise of new ideas. These new ideas weren’t communicated as such, instead the campaign focused on its social media strategy, its posters and all the other accouterments of its “cool” image.

And now toward the beginning of the end of a new year, it is impossible for even Obama supporters to find any actual “New Ideas”.

12 Ways to Get Fired for Facebook

September 1, 2010 Leave a comment

According to a 2009 study by Internet security firm Proofpoint, 8 percent of companies with more than 1,000 employees have fired someone for social media actions — a figure that is double what was reported in 2008.

Yet it probably comes as no surprise that Facebook firings are on the rise. Cases of employers firing employees for social media slip-ups have been consistent in the news over the past few years.Just in case you need a refresher of what not to say online, here’s a timeline of 12 ridiculous examples of how Facebook can get you fired.1. Nov. 4, 2008:

New England Patriots cheerleader Caitlin Davis was cut from the squad over controversial pictures that were posted on her Facebook page. Davis, then 18, was at a Halloween party when she posed for photos with a passed-out man who was covered in graffiti, including swastikas, anti-Semitic remarks and profanity. Davis was fired from the squad after the pictures appeared on various websites and caught the attention of the Patriot’s management team. She had been the youngest cheerleader ever to make an NFL squad.
